You and I are going to drink a lot of coffee together. Like, borderline dangerous amounts of coffee.
So, first things first. Pour yourself a mug and I’ll introduce myself real quick.
My name’s Jordan - but everyone calls me “J” - and I’m a 27th degree black belt in chugging coffee.
I’m also strength & nutrition coach, I hold several powerlifting world records, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have my writing featured in a variety of outlets like CNN, the Huffington Post, and Schwarzenegger.com.
    But listen.
This channel isn’t for fame, publicity, cash, props, fist bumps, likes, pings, pows or whatever else there is.
It’s a place where you and I can chat.
I’ll never sugar coat, lie, or beat around the bush. I’ll tell you everything exactly as I see it. Some stuff you might like. Others you might not.
    And that’s totally cool.
Either way, my goal here is to create a discussion. A place where you and I can get together, exchange ideas, and motivate each other to be better every day.
Like I said, we’re gonna drink a lot of coffee together - borderline dangerous amounts - but I’m excited. Because there aren’t too many online communities in which the sole purpose is to inspire and motivate one another.
And that’s exactly what you and I are going to do here.
    To your success,
    -J

I've just tuned 40 and was sitting at 255 lbs. I started walking 10,000 steps a day on January 30th. I have added light weights three times a week, a kettle ball routine twice a week and I jog on the weekends. It's March 13 & my current weight is 235. I have also changed my diet to a more nutritional one usually getting in around 1600 to 1800 calories, while still enjoying my occasional craving. I also keep an eye on my macros. This can be done if you dedicate to it. Thank you so much for the videos and advice.

At the beginning of my journey, I lost 7 pounds, and then went into a month long ‘plateau’ and quit for like a month. I then went to a dietician for a keto type diet because I was convinced I was insulin resistant. Although I lost weight while I was seeing them, the most important thing I learned at the dietician was that, if I actually tracked my calories while I was keto, the weeks I never lost weight, were the weeks I was over eating and not in a deficit. Needless to say I quit the dietician and have lost 6 pounds since then while eating all the carbs.
Long story short: Calorie deficit #sortinghatsquad :)

Hey Jordan! This has seriously come at the best time. Since stumbling on to your channel back in October, I have spent the last few months just tracking and getting my head in the game. Not consistent in calorie deficit, but I needed to work on my head first. I'm now tracking everything (not just the good stuff) and despite a minor wobble where I signed up to a shake diet (facepalm...) I'm finally in a position where consistent calorie deficit is something I can do without my head trying to sabotage. I'm mostly CD now, just with a few Christmas celebrations that, for one, I'm enjoying and NOT beating myself up for - they were conscious decisions I've made. I've also not gone over my CD on days where I had celebrations - I just made the choice not to indulge those days - I've NEVER done that before, I've always treated Christmas as a big free-for-all. I've committed to the next 90 days post Christmas (literally have the Harry Potter 2020 calendar on the wall for those circles and x's) and can't wait to share how I go with you. Thank you so much for your no-nonsense (and also much nonsense!) approach and finally giving me back the confidence that I'm not a special butterfly, I just need to stick to it and it will come. Again, thank you. #sortinghatsquad

Thank you for all your insight. I hit a new low weight today without tracking. I think being stressed about counting calories all the time was causing a slowing of weight loss. I am using your advice on how to intuitively eat, and now my strength as gone up with my powerlifting, and the scale is going down. I also don’t obsess and just enjoy food how. The hunger u get while u re in a calorie deficit is because your stomach capacity is bigger and in it fits more calories than your body actually needs . If you re in a calorie deficit means you wanna lose weight ,if you wanna lose weight means you re fat ,if you re fat means you eat too much than your body actually needs so....u make deposits of fat !
Well .....!thats why u re hungry in a deficit ...cause you eat less than you actually are used to . 👍🏼💪🏼
But only a thing i could say to all of you
NO MATTER WHAT ,NEVER GIVE UP !
Did ur deficit today have been a fail ?! It s okay ,tomorrow and next days u can make it ! If there s will to make it ,you ll make it !!! Have patience and dont be harsh to uself .... Take it slowly ,also the weight u gain ,u didnt gain it overnight ,so u cant expect to lose it like that fast .

Appetite is is usually mistaken for hunger.
Because we have so much food available 24 hours a day, we never allow our stomachs to completely empty and then we eat when it’s “meal” time instead of when our bodies are ready for more food.
I can ALWAYS tell I’m in a calorie deficit, because the first day or so I actually hear my stomach growl and that’s something that NEVER happens without me making an effort to curb my calorie intake.
    Love you.

    Hi Jordan,
After watching your videos, using calorie tracker I have lost 32.4lbs in 2/3 months. Every day I have had a big ass salad, never been hungry and a snack size chocolate bar, or a chocolate mousse for dessert after my evening meal so fuck the haters!
I honestly cannot thank you enough, without you I would've worried every time scales stayed the same or went slightly up. fact you give this advice away for nothing is so good!

Thank you for all you do. I stopped solely using my scale weight as my success indicator after watching your Big Mac challenge video when it came out. I now use the way I feel and how my clothes fit and my scale anxiety has stopped! This video has been even more helpful. Thanks Jordan! 😘 #sortinghatsquad

BOY did I need to hear this. I’m trying to get myself in the best place possible to get ready for starting a family and recently I’ve been feeling so tired and more hungry and now I know...it’s because I’m in a calorie deficit!!!! Thanks for making me realise this is ok Jordan, I could literally binge watch your videos 🙈 #sortinghatsquad

For 3 weeks the number on the scale did NOT move in the right direction, it actually moved the tiniest bit *up* and I was so frustrated. Thank God for my belt, if not I would have given up. Making new belt holes was a way for me to know that things were progressing.

Imho weight is the worst way to measure your body fat, unless you're overweight. Weight can fluctuate just by the stuff you've eaten or drunk.
I'm using the Navy method to calculate my body fat. Body weight isn't even a factor that will change the outcome there.
I know what waist circumference is good for me and that's what I'm going by.

    Consistency.
    Patience.
Do what you gotta do when you are not motivated.
    These are my weaknesses!!
After I lost 40 lbs, I lost my focus. I have been somewhat maintaining my weight. But I still have 25 lbs to lose to achieve my goal. I am watching your videos to get these 3 qualities that I need!

Eat one half a piece of steamed fish. Add some lemon pepper for taste. 3 boiled eggs and 1 cup each of broccoli and cauliflower steamed everyday. And only this with water you will be in deficit. Especially if you only eat this between 1 and 7 p.m. don't forget to take multivitamins. Just heads up. You will get cold so get a hoodie

Jordan, thank you for always sharing the truth and for all the work you do!
I have a story to share with you! Your constant posts about how the weight on the weighing scale is just data and how it changes regularly, really helped me get over the fear of weighing myself! I ended up weighing myself everyday and not let it affect me 😁 I did the experiment for myself and saw how my body weight fluctuated

Ok, so I damn near fell off the treadmill when *farts* comes across the screen and you started cracking up! Absolutely hilarious... AND I realized something when you were explaining about hands and feet being cold and feeling sleepy. I started tracking in earnest (red X and black circle) on the calendar. Once I really put in the work, those exact symptoms were starting lol I could not for the life of me figure out why the fuck I was so cold all the time. This totally makes sense now! Thank you so much for all your info you share. You have no idea J exactly how much you are helping me. Love you #sortinghatsquad

man it helped my mental state a lot by having 2 points of consistent measurement.
every day I weighed myself before my lifestyle change (this was crucial since I found I had a 2kg wide fluctuation) and every week give or take I'd take a waist measurement.
I had not started taking progress pictures then (which I am now severely regretting since I don't have my initial photos now) and after eating less and started resistance training around 3-4 times a week I observed that my waist was definitely decreasing ( I saw a 2inch decrease) and my weight had come down by 5kg (from the top weight fluctuation, which is why it was good I daily weighed since I would've thought it was only 3kg loss otherwise).
my ratchet belt gave me more clicks, trousers started feeling looser.
tl;dr not relying solely on the scale confirmed for me that I was losing weight, ie, that I was in a caloric deficit

#sortinghatsquad really enjoyed your Jordan Sucks podcast - listened to it on Spotify so couldnt work out how to leave a review. I liked it because you answered a variety of questions instead of it being a podcast on just one topic like they have been recently, and being a shorter episode meant I could listen to it whilst I was driving to the gym. Looking forward to when you release your Sydney Australia date so I can book tickets to see you in Aussie! Hopefully we have a better Prime Minister by then haha
