In my personal opinion Rust in Peace is the best Trash Metal album of all time so I agree . Some say Master of Puppets which is actually the album I grew up listening to. The difference between the two albums is that as the years go by Rust in Peace and also Peace Sells albums are aging well and when songs like The Conjuring, 5 Magiks, Holy Wars, Good Morning Black Friday, Hangar 18, or Tornado of Souls is played I still get goose bumps and I’m amazed at the absolute mastery of the guitar work and bass lines and drums on these songs. Chris Polland was a jazz guitarist who was taught to play Metal by Dave Mustaine. Dave also thought James Hetfield how to play his metal riffs and the Spider Cord technique on guitar playing. That is why early metalica sounds like Megadeth but since metalica has the worlds largest fan base they always say Megadeth stole metalicas riffs and sound which is actually the other way around. Either way we have 2 great bands with similar sound.

The idea for holy wars and what it's about actually has to do with the fight in Ireland between Catholics and Protestants. Look at my comment I posted, the timing of the release and Gulf War tied the two together forever. Now Mustain clearly expanded beyond just what he saw in Ireland and the Middle East had been fighting a holy war during the 80's already so it all does tie together in the end. Thanks everyone

That's an outstanding point...a handful of metal bands in the 80s and 90s saw that singing about Satan, partying, and brawling had been done over and over and began to make a concerted effort, as a whole, to expand their lyrical content, their message. Glad to see it mentioned, not everyone catches it. It was a real thing...

This song came out just weeks after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in August of 1990 and began playing playing on MTV just days after Hussein called on all Arab and Muslim people to join him in a Holy War against the American Crusaders. Although the song obviously wasn't written about the Persain Gulf War it became a current event metal hit. I remember Dave Mustain telling Howard Stern who thought the timing worked out great for them that he was kinda pissed Saddam stole his song title for his little Sand Box War. Classic Dave Mustain. Since you like Megadeth I'll give you guy's a bit of info, Mustain picked the bands name after reading an article on Nuclear War. The article explained that Mutually Assured Destruction is what prevented Nuclear war but if it happened the casualties would be so massive it referred to as Megadeath. He liked the name, took out the letter [A] in death and the rest is history. Thanks Asia and BJ. Hope you enjoyed my comment

    • @seandooley226
      @seandooley226 2 года назад

@@5burowz I can't say forsure the real reason Hussein invaded Kuwait in 1990 but it's Impossible it had anything to do with Euro's because they didn't exist at the time, neither did the European Union. The Berlin wall had come down 9 months prior and the Soviet Union still controlled most of eastern Europe. The USSR didn't dissolve until 12/25/91 after a failed coup in August of 1991. After the communist fell Europe reorganized yet again paving the way for the E.U. and the introduction of the euro.

Megadeth is great! Always have a jazzy bluesy structure to their music but thrashy metal! Very technical. Love the interlude with teh Spanish flamenco guitar acoustics too! Yes, They are masters on the guitars. Megadeth is singing about war crimes, politics, government, racial issues, etc. Thrash and punk rock is typical for that. Socially consience. Injustice things like that. Outcasts,. Similar to hard core rap music. I grew up listening to rap and metal and punk alot my friends did too.. I guess rebel music jaja. Video to this song is great too ! Arsenio Hall loved them too they were was on his show playing songs when I was in middle school. Like early 1990s. When this album dropped.

The cover art you were curious about is depicting the Megadeth mascot 'Vic Rattlehead' and to better understand what is going on in the image listen to the track 'Hangar 18'
If I still have your attention this far in I encourage you to listen to 'Corrosion of Conformity' a Southern Rock - genre - any tracks with vocals by Pepper Keenan. You're welcome :)

The Holy Wars first part is about global religious conflict, particularly in Israel and Northern Ireland. The second part "The Punishment Due" is about Marvel Comic's the Punisher and how he wages war against orginized crime.

Megadeth are one of the most informative band in metal.. And in my view.. The best metal band on the planet.. 15 great and varied albums.. With a 16th on the way.
This song is from album number 4.. You are correct in what he said.. Take my thoughts away..
The first part is Holy Wars.. The second part is Punishment Due.. Holy Wars is about religious war, misunderstanding and difference. The second part is about the Punisher character from Marvel it covers the characters origins in the lyrics.. They fix surprisingly well together as you can hear.

This is a 2 part song....Holy Wars...and the Punishment Due. The first part he is talking about holy wars "Killing for religion, something I don't understand". the Second part is taken from the perspective the the victim's of the wars. Fantastic song, but always helps to have a lyric video on a first listen :)

The album cover from Rust in Peace depicts the World Leads of 1990. First President Bush, the PMs of England and Japan, the President of Germany and Gorbachev of Russia. They are at 'Hanger 18' with Vic Rattlehead, Megadeth mascot, as he appears to attempt to resurrect an alien. The cover is more in line with the song titled 'Hanger 18' off the album than Holy Wars... The Punishment Due. The album title comes from the last song on the album, Rust in Peace, Polaris, a song about the perspective of a nuclear weapon.

    “44 Minutes”
It’s about the two Bank of America robbers in Los Angeles that attacked the police with AK-47s. You may remember the footage on TV I know it’s been a while but Megadeth wrote a song about it and it’s amazing

The creepy guy on the cover, his name is Vic Rattlehead. He's the mascot of Megadeth. Another band who has a mascot like this is Iron Maiden. Their creepy guy is named Eddie.
Just a suggestion, pull up lyrics on your phone so you can better understand what's actually being said.
The line was "wage the war, on organized crime.
But the music video, watching them nail it on those guitars and drums is a sight to see.

'Holy wars' was about the Middle East conflict back in 1990... 'The punishment due' was inspired by Marvel comics 'The Punisher' character Frank Castle, whose family was murdered and he became the anti-hero who waged war on organized crime... 'Punisher' became 3 lame movies... 1 impressive Netflix series w/ 'Walkin Dead' actor Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle.
The album cover for the 1990 Megadeth album 'Rust in peace' was referring to the nuclear arms race during the cold war... the character is Megadeth's mascot Vic Rattlehead in 'Hangar 18', which is supposedly the location of where aliens landed in Roswell, New Mexico... the people watching are all the world leaders back in 1990 - Pres. George Bush, USSR Pres. Mikhail Gorbachev... etc.
