"The Skull Beneath The Skin" from their debut album is the only Megadeth song written about their mascot Vic Rattlehead. Megadeth are one of my favourite metal bands, and there's so many great songs to recommend by them. "Set The World Afire", "Looking Down The Cross", "Rust In Peace... Polaris" "My Last Words", and "Go To Hell" would be great next steps for you discovering the band though. Oh, and both Dave Mustaine and the bassist David Ellefson are Christians.
Wow, great first song reaction for your introduction to Megadeth. The reaction to that solo out of nowhere during Holy Wars, both of your faces was priceless. So, Dave Mustaine is definitely a Christian now, full blown Christian. He won't play several older songs that had demonic undertones to them, and he even won't play some tours with some bands. For history of the band. Dave Mustaine was the lead guitarist of Metallica. When they left California to go to NYC to record Kill Em All, there are different stories about what happened, but he was fired and woken up after a night of drinking, and told he was going back to California. He asked when his flight left, and the rest of Metallica told him it was a Greyhound bus. He rode the whole way back to California, just angry. He arrived and was staying some motel, and he kept hearing some kids outside trying to play guitar, waking him up. He finally told them to go get him some alcohol, and come back and he'd teach them how to play. One of those kids was David Ellefson, who became the bass player of Megadeth. Dave Mustaine was constantly in a state of competition with Metallica. He always wanted to play faster and heavier than Metallica. He always wanted to one up them. This song is off the fourth album of theirs, and it features what is probably their most iconic lineup. Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman both would play solos on songs, and this also featured Nick Menza on drums. The part you mention, where he ends with "messenger of God," is the end of the "Holy Wars" part of the song. Punishment Due starts after that, and is about The Punisher. This album would be released about the time of Metallica And Justice For All, for a comparison. I'll give you my meeting Dave Mustaine story. Megadeth started what they wanted to be a yearly festival tour, Gigantour. The first year, they had Anthrax on it, my favorite band, and I had a hook up for two tickets and passes to meet Anthrax for two shows, one in Seattle, one in Portland. First one was in Seattle, and the second ticket wasn't there, and when I got the pass, no one in security knew where I was supposed to go for the pass to meet Anthrax. Wandered around for hours trying to find an answer, until someone said go to a certain gate, that I had been at many times before. I wait in line and other people start showing up, with Megadeth passes, so I figure that it must be the location for all bands. I'm watching the time, and next thing I know, next band to go on stage is Anthrax. Then the gate opens, and we all go through, and then I hear the beginning of Anthrax's song, NFL. I know I'm not in right line, but screw it, I'm here in a line. Come around the corner, and there's Megadeth. First person at the table is Dave Mustaine, and I say, "hey, I am guessing this isn't the right spot, but I was supposed to have a pass to meet Anthrax." Dave Mustaine looks at me, "I'm not in Anthrax, I'm in Megadeth," with this look of, "you're one dumb idiot" look on his face. I say, "oh, I know, your band was what got me into loving thrash metal and Anthrax, and they're on stage right now, and I can hear them playing NFL, one of my favorite songs since it reminds me of a good friend that killed himself day before my birthday when I was 15. Got me through tough times, love the song." He pauses, listens, "yeah, that song is awesome. Here, talk with my tour manager, she'll get you straightened out where you're supposed to be, thanks for being a fan." Some more Megadeth songs: Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells, Addicted to Chaos (I made a video for this one years ago) If you haven't done any Anthrax yet, here's one on point for what is going on currently, Keep It In The Family (and go with either a live version or the John Bush version), Blood Eagle Wings would be another good one (I would recommend not doing the official video though, it is Hard R). The lyrics of Blood Eagle Wings have to do with the violence present in all great cities, built upon the blood and dead of the people throughout history. Long comment, sorry.
Dave Ellefson was playing running with the devil really loud on bass and Mustaine told him to shut up. Ellefson came up and first asked Mustaine to buy him cigarettes, then asked him to buy booze. That's how they met
According to Mustaine, the name "Megadeth" represents the annihilation of power. It is a misspelling of the term megadeath, meaning one million deaths by nuclear explosion.
Chris Meilleur No,thank you,for not being one of these”who the hell does this jackass thinks he is correcting me” types and being able to have a decent conversational discourse. That seems to be becoming increasingly rare these days.
ya'll should do a lot more Megadeth, Dave Mustaine writes a lot of Biblically inspired songs. Especially like referring to the coming WW3, Fall of America and the Apocalypse
He didn't leave Metallica. He was kicked out. But I agree; we wouldn't have all these great songs from Megadeth. Although, he loved Metallica...hated them for a while, but learned throughout the years that he had built something great and lots of people love him because of his talent, personality among other things.
Finally a thread of intelligence that doesnt shit on either band. Ive always enjoyed both bands, but its always line drawn in the sand. Youre either Megadeth or Metallica but never both. But they both kick so much fucking ass.
Hey pastor Rob I love watching you do your reviews and with an open mind- great stuff and thank you! Here are a couple suggestions for megadeath - dawn patrol, rust in peace, trust, use the needle, and there are many others that I could tell you but those are a good start. I had the opportunity to meet Dave on tour in Dallas and let me tell you he is an intellectual passionate writer and musician who writes from experiences in his life and situations in the world that have effected many people's lives. He honestly speaks from his heart.
I’d like to see y’all react to the more Christian related Megadeth songs like Washington Is Next, New World Order, Never Walk Alone, Millennium of the Blind, etc.
Or some songs like the conjuring, good morning Black Friday, or five Magic’s. They aren’t Christian at all so it would be interesting to hear their thoughts on them
This whole album SLAPS. Pastor Rob & Gage.. (sorry if I misspelled that) you guys are awesome. I know I’m late to this video but I have always considered myself a relatively Agnostic person & I love to watch these. Your interpretations are awesome & it really gets me thinking. Don’t ever stop trying to spread knowledge and discernment!
WASP was big in the '80's, the singer came to Christ, and now they play Christian metal. The song Golgatha is really good. (The lyrics are already on the official video.)
I mentioned that too. My first WASP concert was in 1985 and I still have the tour program. I idolized Blackie Lawless as a teenager so when I heard he “converted” I figured he was just trying to stay artistically relevant. Then I heard Golgotha. A little repetitive, but, sufficiently W.A.S.P. Blackie’s still got it!
I am a born-again Christian, and another believer in a Bible study asked everybody to tell her a song that truly speaks to their soul. Others gave her hymns or contemporary christian praise music, etc. I gave her this. People were incredulous and totally could not understand. Well, it does speak to my soul and I love this piece of art. If you are not aware, two of the artists are Christians. God, I love this song!
8:07 was my goosebump moment in this song. I was a senior in high school (the summer before my senior year) when this dropped. My mom was strict Southern Baptist and hated this band.
Megadeth recommendations: Tornado Of Souls (insane solo), In My Darkest Hour, Wake Up Dead, The Conjuring, Basically every song except for the entirety of Risk.
LOL we made it to 2021. I have watched this reaction video a few times. Love the song absolutely, but I also love your father's commentary. "We are all one in Christ"
Rust in peace... Polaris The ending is amazing. The continuing riff at the end is a banger. Nonstop. Not sure if anyone else would suggest it tho. But I'm just recommending it.
You absolutely need to check out Tornado of Souls by Megadeth. Entire song is awesome, but one of the greatest guitar solos you will ever hear is found within.
There isn’t an exact lore behind Vic Rattlehead, but from what we do understand he gets summoned every time there is evil, and sometimes he likes to cause mischief himself, but generally speaking he’s a suicide bomber and was a general in a past life who’s only intent is to defeat evil and restore some form of order and peace. That’s all we know though, I don’t think we have info outside of that.
I’ve been a Megadeth fan for 32 years and I’ve enjoyed watching you two for a while now. I think you should do “In My Darkest Hour” next. I believe you would love analyzing the lyrics and musically it is more simple than this one, but still one of my favorite Megadeth songs to date. Dave Mustaine has said he hates the album because of how drugged out he was and the mental state he was in while making it, which comes out in this song for sure, but So Far, So Good, What is a fantastic album, so it broke my heart to hear him say that. Rust In Peace is by far their best album in my opinion though. I met Dave Mustaine back in ‘91, long before he became a Christian, and he was a super down to earth and cool guy. He was of course sober by then too. Even if you don’t do this song, I think you should listen to it because again you can hear that raw emotion in Dave’s voice.
Theocracy- I Am I know I comment this in almost every video you post so hopefully it's not too annoying but I do it because I really am trying to put you and gauge on to one the best Christian rock bands out there, and this song in particular probably has some of the best lyrics out there at telling how awesome God is! I literally just have to stop what I'm doing and praise God every time I hear this song.
The first 2 solos are Marty Friedman, then Dave Mustardstain does the last solo, right before the "fill the cracks in..." verse. Marty's solos on the Rust In Peace record are some of my favs ever.
I believe, vocally, Dave is the equivalence of Willie Nelson of metal. And both are the most incredible creative people on earth. God's blessings upon you and yours!🌞🙏💛☯️🌞
This was my first time viewing one of your videos, and I will admit that I've scrolled past several of your video links in the past due to the "Pastor Reacts" in the titles. While I am not a religious man by nature, I do not find myself drawn to any particular brand of religion, and just try to live a good life firmly believing in Karma, and respect for the one single planet we have been given. I don't have one bad thing to say about most religions, just live and let live. That being said, I finally got pulled in, The song in particular playing no small part in that choice, as it is one of my all time favorite metal songs. So, I just wanted to say I really enjoyed watching you two taking it in (This song IS a lot to take in). You have a great dynamic together. I enjoyed seeing how each of you noticed different, and valid, aspects of the song. Great reaction video, consider me subscribed, and look forward to see more of your stuff! Cheers.
Best breakdown of this song I've heard. Been a Megadeth fan and guitar player since the mid 90's, Dave Mustaine was always been and still is a huge influence on my playing. Also, Marty Friedman who played guitar solo 1 and 2 in this song (Dave plays the 3rd solo, the shredding part) is absolutely amazing as well. Thank you for this!
Megadeth is so awesome, especially their earlier works. In My Darkest Hour was on the album before this and I think you guys would love the dynamics of that one.
Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman traded solos on this album. Remember....Dave was the original lead guitarist in Metallica, off the Kill 'em All album.
Dave Mustain has a basic pentatonic/chromatic style of lead playing. Marty Friedman is more technical/melodic. Both good lead players, but very different. In this song I'm pretty sure Mustain only plays the last solo. Which is my favorite in this song.
@@auri8810 I believe kirk played small parts of each solo on kill em all as Mustain wrote it, then improvised the rest. Kirk was a student of Joe Satriani before Metallica. Also Mustain wrote a cpl songs off kill em all, which had changes in the lyrics.
Dave once said that Marty plays with more love, Dave plays with more hate -- that's how I know which one is playing a given solo, especially in Holy Wars and Hangar 18.
From the same album (which is full of great tracks, so you can't go wrong), check out Take No Prisoners, Tornado Of Souls, and the title track Polaris (Rust In Peace). Hangar 18 has an insane flurry of solos on the latter half of the song.
You just covered, in my opinion, the greatest Thrash Metal song of all time. You, young man, are absolutely right. Thrash Metal started with Dave Mustaine and Megadeth and everyone else copied them. Any other Thrash song you cover will be a step down! Take No Prisoners..........!
Sorry but Metallica was playing thrash before Megadeth. Kill'em All was Thrash all the way. Did we all forget Dave was playing with Metallica in the beginning.

Vic is the character on the cover of all the Megadeth albums. @@alexpaurazas4083 When this came out Dessert Shield/Dessert Storm was happening and I thought this was about that, especially with the acoustic interlude having that Middle Eastern flair to it, but a few years later I read the interview where Dave Mustaine mentions his unintentional shout out and the consequences of that.
dave got the idea when he went to Ireland to perform and some guys at the crowd starded fighting because of this, but th lyrics are about any holy wars really
Oh man, when I made my list, I completely forgot Polaris! lol
Rattle head
@@carlosdiaz-kq9wr Ironically enough, the song "Rattlehead" has nothing to do with Vic at all.
@@Sara_Kane yeah I know but I just wanted to let off some steam
Here, talk with my tour manager, she'll get you straightened out where you're supposed to be, thanks for being a fan."
Some more Megadeth songs: Symphony of Destruction, Peace Sells, Addicted to Chaos (I made a video for this one years ago)
If you haven't done any Anthrax yet, here's one on point for what is going on currently, Keep It In The Family (and go with either a live version or the John Bush version), Blood Eagle Wings would be another good one (I would recommend not doing the official video though, it is Hard R).

Megadeth’s Rust In Peace is an amazingly brilliant album from front to back.
ya'll should do a lot more Megadeth, Dave Mustaine writes a lot of Biblically inspired songs. Especially like referring to the coming WW3, Fall of America and the Apocalypse
From a former pastor, I'm requesting "Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Iron Maiden. I would suggest live in Rio.
Great song, very emotional. Love from Scotland! 🏴
Countdown to Extinction is such a good song you should listen to it
So underrated
"I've never heard this either" *first 3 notes play* "Oh I've heard this"
Check out anything off their latest, Dystopia. I’d recommend:
Fatal Illusion
Poisonous Shadows
Conquer or Die
Heck yeah -- Bullet to the Brain and Post-American World, too
And lying in state
Album was released in 1990. Their masterpiece album! Dave Mustaine was the original Guitarist for Metallica!
"Sweating Bullets" You won't be disappointed.
This ones my favorite too
Agreed!
BTW Vic Rattlehead is that guy on the cover and yes just like Eddie for Iron Maiden
I love when your vids pop up. I'm an old metal fan, you always give honest opinions and love music. Need I say more.
In my opinion. this is their best song. it has many different sections. fun to listen to.
"Tornado Of Souls" "Peace Sells" "In My Darkest Hour"
If you want something at the same level:
Ashes in your mouth
5 Magics
Take no prisoner
The conjuring

Love Megadeth, Dave Mustaine is a legend, Im glad he left Metallica or we wouldn't have Megadeth. I love Metallica as well but having both is better.
No doubt the music world would have suffered greatly if this hadn't happened these 2 bands shaped music for me in a way I can never explain
Exactly. Instead of one discography of great pieces of art, we got two.
I wish more people would realize this, I’ve been saying this since I got exposed to both bands and metal in the late ‘80’s
His name is "Vic Rattlehead "
Hey pastor Rob I love watching you do your reviews and with an open mind- great stuff and thank you! Here are a couple suggestions for megadeath - dawn patrol, rust in peace, trust, use the needle, and there are many others that I could tell you but those are a good start. I had the opportunity to meet Dave on tour in Dallas and let me tell you he is an intellectual passionate writer and musician who writes from experiences in his life and situations in the world that have effected many people's lives. He honestly speaks from his heart.
This is one of the best heavy metal albums of all time .
It was brilliance on its release and it stands the test of time. For me, the best ‘thrash’ metal song written.
“Tornado of Souls”
Megadeth - "Prince of Darkness", "Five Magics", "In My Darkest Hour" and "Peace Sells" are some good ones by them.
I’d like to see y’all react to the more Christian related Megadeth songs like Washington Is Next, New World Order, Never Walk Alone, Millennium of the Blind, etc.
Or some songs like the conjuring, good morning Black Friday, or five Magic’s. They aren’t Christian at all so it would be interesting to hear their thoughts on them
Marty Friedman played the guitar along with Dave Mustaine. I love this song!
I would love to see their reaction to this as well.
Check out “in my darkest hour” by megadeth!!!
Hells yes 🤘
My opinion that is the best Megadeth song but anything off this album (rust in peace) is awesome!!
Agreed I would say tornado of souls is pretty good too
I was just gonna say...masterpiece album
I am a born-again Christian, and another believer in a Bible study asked everybody to tell her a song that truly speaks to their soul. Others gave her hymns or contemporary christian praise music, etc. I gave her this. People were incredulous and totally could not understand. Well, it does speak to my soul and I love this piece of art. If you are not aware, two of the artists are Christians. God, I love this song!
8:07 was my goosebump moment in this song. I was a senior in high school (the summer before my senior year) when this dropped. My mom was strict Southern Baptist and hated this band.
Tornado of Souls, Megadeth same album.
"Elysian Fields" by Megadeth for Biblical reference.
" Boot scootin boogy " was Brooks and Dunn, achey breaky heart was Billy Ray
I’ll suggest a very underrated one from MegadetH - Foreclosure of a dream
I recommend Megadeth songs of truth. Symphony of Destruction and Trust.
Megadeth's defining moment right here 👏
One of the most epic solos ever composed
also the Skeleton is named Vic and he speaks sees and hears no evil hence his bindings
Guage actually looks like a younger Dave Mustaine with his goatee lol
I thought the same thing when I first saw this.
"We are all one in Christ"

that riff kills my fingers lmao. absolutely killer \m/
Fantastic song
You absolutely need to check out Tornado of Souls by Megadeth. Entire song is awesome, but one of the greatest guitar solos you will ever hear is found within.
It’s great for solos, but it sucks vocally.
True, but Hangar 18 is probably the best collection of solos in one song :)
Lots of good Megadeth songs. The whole rust in peace album is a masterpiece
Yep, he wrote that song upon hearing of Cliff Burton's death.
My recommended Megadeth songs: in my darkest hour, trust, tornado of souls, lucretia and symphony of destruction
Theocracy- I Am
I know I comment this in almost every video you post so hopefully it's not too annoying but I do it because I really am trying to put you and gauge on to one the best Christian rock bands out there, and this song in particular probably has some of the best lyrics out there at telling how awesome God is!
“The Conjuring” would be good. About a time in Dave’s life where he got into satanism
"The Conjuring". Just do it!!
React to Iron Maiden: Wasted Years and Aces High
What I love about Megadeth is that Dave is a born again believer. He doesn't perform with any bands that have satanic imagery or lyrics. Good on him.
I have a request: DELIVERANCE - Stay of Execution
Best lineup in megadeth history. They were so tight.
Truth! For those who don't know, that's Mustaine, Ellefson, Friedman and Menza (RIP). \m/\m/
I go back and forth between this and the Gar & Chris Poland era
Megadeth is so awesome, especially their earlier works. In My Darkest Hour was on the album before this and I think you guys would love the dynamics of that one.
Damn seeing that isreal lyric has just reminded me on how much this song represents today
And what it says afterwards is just chilling:
İt might be your HOMELAND.
Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman traded solos on this album. Remember....Dave was the original lead guitarist in Metallica, off the Kill 'em All album.
Kirk played on kill em all
@@darienlux4735 dave wrote almost all of it tho
"Hook in mouth" by Megadeth is my suggestion
You definitely need to cover "In my darkest hour" by Megadeth. The song's lyrics a really deep.
From the same album (which is full of great tracks, so you can't go wrong), check out Take No Prisoners, Tornado Of Souls, and the title track Polaris (Rust In Peace).
Hangar 18 has an insane flurry of solos on the latter half of the song.
In my darkest hour is a song to listen to.

“Has some black magic spells” You can’t seriously believe in that crap 😂

Angel of Death is #1 in my book but this is prolly 2.
Vic is the character on the cover of all the Megadeth albums. His origin comes from the song "Skull Beneath the Skin" off of "Killing is my business and business is good" which according to Dave Mustaine is a government oppression reference "See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil" so if you look at Vic he has his ears closed, his eyes shut, and covered with metal, and his mouth is sewn shut.
