Welcome to the world of Megadeth. I promise you, "Tornado of Souls" is a MUST. In this song, the line "Fools like me, who cross the sea ..." is in reference to when Megadeth played a concert in Northern Irelend. Dave didn't really know too much about the Ireland/Northern Ireland conflict, and he dedicated a song to "the Cause", and started a riot.
Hehe. I never heard that
this came out about the time Desert Shield /Desert Storm kicked off
@@rulleh It was the Antrim Forum gig. Mustaine got hit with a 50p piece, and this was back in the day when they were big enough to do real damage! No riot though.
The Conjuring and My Last Words too ! 🤘❤️🇨🇦
@@TritonT69 them old 50p's could take down a battleship! 😂
Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman were an absolute force of nature. Glad you guys enjoyed this.
I went to a guitar clinic featuring Marty at the Musicians Workshop in Asheville NC. A really cool guy.
RIP Nick Menza. @@markjohnson5885
This song is generally regarded as the pinnacle of original thrash metal. Extremely thoughtful lyrics and complex musicianship.
According to whom? Does "generally" mean your high school buddies?
@@kevinlee3298By the thrash metal community, you poser
@@kevinlee3298According to anyone who has heard it.
@@kevinlee3298, according to Rolling Stone, Loudwire, Metal Hammer, Kerrang, and millions of people who have attended Megadeth concerts from all over the world, it's one of the best thrash metal songs of all time, along with Master of Puppets by Metallica, Raining Blood by Slayer, and Madhouse by Anthrax. Your effort to be condescendingly contrarian is smoothminded at best.
no, the Album "Kill em all" was which did include Dave.
"Dont look now to Israel, it might be your homelands" - Megadeth prophesised it all. I feel privilaged to have grown up in a time of real music. Great reaction by the way.
There's been fighting going on over that strip for 70 years.

Welcome to the Megadeth Rabbit Hole. SO MANY great songs to experience. Great writing, great riffs, great solos. MEGADETH is the KING of Metal.
WOW - this song hits today right!
Same! Love it
From a technical aspect, Rust In Peace is my ALL TIME Greatest Thrash Metal Album... It's a fricking masterpiece. People ding it because Dave isn't a great singer, but the entire album is a serious masterpiece. When it came to the war Dave was waging against Metallica, for who could create the more technical album, MegaDeth won in my opinion.... and it wasn't much of a competition. And I love Metallica.
Back in those days, thrash metal were always talking about deep subjects.. and they weren't happy subjects. Pretty epic. The 80's and 90's was a stellar time for this kind of music, and I loved every moment of it.
Dave's voice can be tough to the uninitiated, but I honestly could not imagine their songs with any other voice. I've heard some AI generated Megadeth songs with 80's Hetfield and it just doesn't sound right.
@@AnthonyF1227It doesn't sound right because it isn't right
I have always held this album as #1 all time. So technical.
i didn't mind the vokills
imagine how good the war would be if it wasn't for lars (don't get me wrong he was an absolute machine) but he wasn't quite as technical as nick
This whole album is a masterpiece.
This song in particular is really two different songs combined together.
The first half of the song was inspired by an incident that happened when Megadeth were playing a show in Northern Ireland during "The Troubles" time period there (which was basically a 30 year civil war in Northern Ireland, between people who wanted Northern Ireland to stay a part of the UK and people who wanted Northern Ireland to become a part of Ireland, but the conflict was often framed as Protestant vs Catholic - hence the theme of Holy Wars). Dave Mustaine was talking to fans before the show and they said he should dedicate a song to "the cause" or something like that. He had no idea what it meant, so he did it during their show and basically accidently chose a side in the civil war, which caused a riot.
The second half of the song is about the comic book character The Punisher, hence the title "The Punishment Due".
Megadeth have some of the deepest, socially conscious lyrics in all of metal. Lots more good stuff like Foreclosure of a Dream, Countdown to Extinction, Peace Sells…….great job gentlemen.
Dave's lyrics often put the dark side of humanity on display, but he never glorified it.
Yeah I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you. Imo Kreator gets that reward for having the deepest social lyrics. Megadeth gets a second place.
@@maxammo6282 that’s why I only said “some of”. There are definitely countless other metal bands with deep lyrics. I just get amazed at how dismissive people are of metal. Thinking it’s all just noise and aggression. We are the enlightened ones. 😂
I agree with you 1000%
this IS the news...
Dave Mustaine the singer/guitarist is the former lead guitarist for Metallica back in the 80s
"The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it." ~ George Orwell
Megadeth, Metallica, slayer and anthrax where the big 4 of thrash metal in the 80's. 30 years on its still my go to for the raw energy and guitar shredding. Nothing since has come close
Their is a great mini series about the history of metal. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't yet. Can't remember witch network, can probably find it here somewhere.
I still don't think of Anthrax as thrash metal. They have some good music but I can't take them serious.
Yes
This is my all time favorite Megadeth song!!!😄i saw them play in Germany when I was a teen, but in a later album tour;Countdown to Extinction;they were freaking AWESOME!they completely Rocked the entire night and Dave sounded great!! Love that you guys are checking them out.😄🎶🔥✌
Dave, the singer was the original lead guitarist for Metallica. Megadeth is also a member of The Big 4. Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica and Anthrax.
This entire album truly is a masterpiece. I grew up a rap-head as a teenager in the late 90's and early 2000's, didn't find Metallica and Megadeth until I was in my early 30's. This album is just amazing, Lucretia is such a damn good groove with an amazing solo. You'd like a lot of Metallica stuff as well, there's a lot of rhythm and groove type stuff that appeals to the hip-hop listener that has an open ear to a different genre that incorporates some similar types of things.
Lucretia ❤
Now you’re in my wheelhouse. Never listened to rap before I was 50 yo. Was always a metal head. Learned about rap from reactors. Still learning from y’all but fun to see you hitting up my original genre.
I joined the Army in 89. Ended up in Desert Shield/Storm (Aug 90 - Apr 91). It wasn't until I got back from DS that I caught this album (even though I was a full blown metal head....When I got to basic, I still had hair down to my nipple line that had to get shaved off). This song definitely was "timely" from what we just went through in Saudi/Iraq. Even though it's not actually about the "Gulf War", it's very appropriate.
Metallica put out "One" in 88, and was actually a part of my "sound track" during the Gulf War (and throughout my career of 22 years). Music USE to make you THINK, question what was going on. Definitely a different time. Dave Mustain (of Megadeth) was originally a part of Metallica. Keep going down the 80s rabbit hole, it's definitely a trip.
Start at the beginning. Killing is my Business... and Business is Good, Peace Sells... But Who's Buying, So Far So Good... So What, Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings, Risk, The World Needs a Hero, The System Has Failed, United Abominations, Endgame, Thirteen, Super Collider, Dystopia, The Sick the Dying... and the Dead. This band started in 1983, and they are still killin' it today. They just don't get the radio play like mainstream music. But the musicianship is second to none. You did in fact... miss a whole vibe. But it's not too late to catch up. That being said the Rust in Peace album in its entirety is an absolute masterpiece of metal. Don't sleep on it. Tornado of Souls (Rust in Peace) contains what is largely regarded as the greatest guitar solo ever written (attributed to Marty Friedman). Love your stuff. Peace...
Remember when we forget history. We are due to repeat it.
Tornado of Souls, Symphony of Destruction, Sweating Bullets, Peace Sells, Hanger 18. So many great songs!
Amazing band, and still making great music today 🤘
Instant like from me. Been a Megadeth fan for decades. That whole album "Rust in Peace" is legendary. Hanger 18 and Tornado of Souls are another two musts.
The back half of the song is actually inspired by Marvel's Punisher. A solider who comes home from war to have his family killed, and wages a new war on crime.
Take No Prisoners...my favorite
I've seen them live twice now and the shows were fantastic both times. If you ever get the chance you need to see them play live.
Metal is hugely popular in Japan and there are many many females that are absolutely astonishing out what they do❤
Many of those same bands are but a comercial trend (and lack the real essence), and for that I don´t consider them "metal". Also... males? females? Who really cares about it? let´s talk about Metal, not sexism.
at first i had no clue what this meant but then i thought maybe its a joke about marty, which would be hilarious
Speaking of Guns N' Roses, listen to their song Civil War also from 1990. It goes very, very deep, I think you two would love it. The whole song is incredible, but I'll share the second verse.
D'you wear a black armband when they shot the man
Who said, "Peace could last forever"?
And in my first memories, they shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall in D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom when it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin' for their promised land
Civil War is a great song.
The second half of the song is about The Punisher, the marvel comic book character. They wrote another song about the character titled ‘Killing is my business and business is good’
F*ck Yeah! One of the classics on my playlists!
When this song first came out, I thought this album was their best. When Mustaine started getting sober, his production and songwriting got so much better. Marty Friedman had just joined the band, and I was excited about that because I lovrd his instrumental project and his jams with Jason Becker, also a guitar genius. #masterpiece
There are so many gems from Megadeth... Check out Symphony of Destruction live in Argentina
This is one of the best Metal bands to ever walk the earth Music and Lyrics are pretty awesome.
The images in the video are from the Iran Contra Affair when Jimmy Carter gave Iran money for American hostages
Nick Menza drumming in this albun is fenomenal ...
Nick used to soak his gloves in cola to have the best grip on his drumsticks. He was brilliant. RIP
I'm so glad i wasn't BASIC AF as a teen with my music and understood and appreciated bands like Megadeth's message
Never seen you guys before. I'm a big Megadeth fan and I liked your reaction. I subbed.
This is my granddaughter's favourite band. I took her to a death metal gig a few weeks ago ( not my usual genre of music) and I actually enjoyed it.
Nice reaction video, for sone reason a lot of the songs from megadeth seem like prophecies and it’s crazy a couple songs that relate to nowadays it’s “Washington is next”, “new world order”, “lying in state”, “endgame”, etc it blows my mind some of these lyrics
Don’t forget foreclosure of a dream, predicted the housing market crash more than 10 years prior
This is the greatest record ever. It made me the guitarist I am today. This was also the first CD I ever bought. Dave Mustaine is the man . Megadeth was the most intricate musically.
I think you'd be amazed by this all female Japanese metal group called ❤lovebites ❤the song holy wars ,homage to Megadeth😮
I'm so glad you guys are going down this path.
Not even the metal heads have ever mentioned how the beginning of Dave's solo sounds like an emergency siren. 🚨
SOS crisis
Beautifully crafted instruments to match the lyrics, every time, Megadeth
Perfect timing for a reaction for this song. Thank you for the great review and talk.
"The arsenal of megadeath can't be rid no matter what the peace treaties come to." -Senator Alan Cranston California
Source of the Megadeth band name.
Hangar 18; Tornado of souls; Sweating Bullets; Peace Sells
You guys kinda nailed it. Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, the heavier bands back then, were kind of like the underground rappers to the more famous hair bands. And yes, they didn't have the girls at the shows of these heavier bands' shows back then.
Except they had talent
Loved the reaction! Ashes in your mouth is another great Megadeth song off the Countdown to Extinction. Thank you for not doing the remaster version. 🤘🏻👍🏻
probably my favourite band 🙌🏼 looking forward to this, let’s get it!
Megadeth was always ahead. Holy Wars was prophetic. They’re album Dystopia is metal for grown ups, and describes the current world situation.
What exactly it prophets mate?
Yes they had groupies. Drummer was one of the best metal drummers of all time. His nickname was the Timekeeper cause of his Jazz roots. RIP Nikki
I love this reaction.
Thank you
Totally... Freakin... Awesome🤘🤘
Rust in Peace is widely considered one of the top 3 best metal albums of all time. Required listening for ANY metal head
Nice you doing Megadeth!
I was at their concert in Atlantic City last month!
My all time favorite metal band
Good video 🔥👍🏻
There was a thing called the British wave of heavy metal in the late 70s early 80s which includes Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and Saxon and so many others. It's worth looking into. It would give y'all a whole lot of reactions to keep you going a few more years at least on that alone
Judas Priest is epic also.
For anti-war sentiment, try Black Sabbath's "War Pigs," 1970. Or "Sky Pilot" by the Animals, 1968. And both are great songs musically, too.
There has always been anti-war sentiment. It's why Switzerland has been a neutral country for centuries.
Spiral Architect is pretty prophetic too.
1990 I was 6. My mom watched Dan Rather during Desert Storm. I remember it all so vividly.
This song is unstoppable!! A fucking JAM from beginning to end!! 💯
Masterpiece!!
For another great Megadeth song along similar themes of censorship check out a lyric video for Hook In Mouth. In the age of the internet the lyrics are actually still shockingly relevant, despite having been written in 1988.
Hook In Mout is one of my favorites.
Hook in mouth is my top 3 beat Megadeth song
JUST WHEN I COULDNT BE MORE SHOCKED. LOVE YOU BP FAM. WHAT A BANNGERRRRRRR
Now you’re talking FUQ Boyz!!!
I found your channel through REN but am originally a METAL HEAD at ❤. Love this!
Watching y'all discover this was a trip, Rust In Peace is a top ten album of all time, any genre.
I didn't even know Black P was doing podcasts and YT like this, glad to see you successful man, keep it up.
Dudes, first time seeing you but you know what's fun? That metal face the dude on the right put, with the mouth in an inverted U haha, that is what metal makes you do, it's an automatic gesture that heavy metal makes you do along with the headbanging, and you got it right away. Great vid
I’ve probably watched 100 of your Ren videos. Caught a few other reactions along the way. I’m an old rocker so this one tipped the scale. You wore me down. Congratulations, I’m now a subscriber.
By the way, comparing Guns and Roses with Poison is like comparing Tupac with MC Hammer... And yes, girls like Megadeth, a lot.
These kids see it as a brand it drives me insane
It is so refreshing to see " a NEW" older generation seeing the light and stepping into the Heavy Metal arena to find the appreciation for our music and why they are ahead of the times!!! Love seeing the smiles during the solos! Rock on....NEXT start Looking into PANTERA!!!
I can't stop smiling watching this. I love you guys
Shouting Slayer as loud and growly as you can is like a meme for metalheads
Everything happening now has been predicted.
one of the best metal bands of all time, this is usually known as their best all around track, but they have so many other great songs. Tornado of Souls, The Conjuring, Symphony of Destruction, In my Darkest Hour are all great songs in different ways. love to see you guys reacting to them
Their song `Washington is next` predict all the shit that happened the last 5 years. It`s awesome.
Great reaction!
you listen a lot of metal. i love it. now youre guys are ready for slayer
1990 is before internet.
Somebody bout to fall down a rabbit hole. Its sooooo good
Great reaction! Love when reactors take the time to read lyrics and nit just assume .
Alot of thrash metal lyrics were ahead of their time 🤘
The entire Rust in peace album is a work of art, arguably the best thrash speed metal album ever..Megadeth introduced me to metal 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Thrash metal in general tends towards these kind of topics.
This is a mix, though... it was originally two separate songs. The first is about conflict in the Middle East. The second part is about the Punisher comic character (they take out his family, he goes after them). So this one is a mix of reality and fiction.
no internet back then...just MTV and CNN Headline News all we had...GREAT React fellas!
the "Big 4 of Thrash" are all US bands...Anthrax is one of the Big 4...they did a colab with Public Enemy in the early 90s "Bring the Noise" epic crossover
Look up Mustaines interview about Holy Wars. It's about a show they played in Ireland and the divide of that country religiously. The second half of the song is about The Punisher character for some reason.
David Mustaine was the original lead guitarist for Metallica he's on my Mt Rushmore if guitarists. Along with Randy Rhodes. These guys are so talented.
“ In My Darkest Hour” all time favourite
That’s Dave. He’s a good human.
lead singer dave was in metallica at their birth..kicked out for alcoholism and he started megadeth to challenge them...love megadeth since a child
Like REN & Tom Mcdonald have drawn me for the first time to appreciate RAP, it's funny to hear you both just starting to dip your toe into a genre I've listened to since late elementary school in the 80s. It says alot about music as a bridge and our closed minds are walls.
The Holy Wars part of the song refers to the conflict in Ireland where i think protestants were fighting christian catholics. He was inspired after an incident at a live performance in ireland. The second part of the song Punishement due is about Marvel's character the Punisher which is Dave Mustaine's favorite. The album Rust in Peace was released in 1990.
Black Pegasus!! ☠️🤘
Symphony of destruction - that one night live in Argentina 🇦🇷
Megadeath can shred like no other band.
Got me again!
Not long after this song came out was "Operation Desert Storm"
Eye opening, never realized there was words😉
Dude lyrics are crazy. Sounds like CIA mind control shtuff
That entire album is a classic masterpiece from start to finish. I guess “Hangar 18” is the “hit” from that album, but there isn’t a bad song on there. “Lucretia” and “Tornado of Souls” especially.
I’d highly recommend “Peace Sells” for something along the same lines lyrically (all time great bass line too).
sweating bullets, countdown to extinction, two of my favorites
Hey new subscriber here. Rust in peace is one of my favorites of all times. I love hip hop jazz pop metal you name it. so you got yourself a new subscriber here. Most would shy away from this. Cheers fellas
Great song choice guys.
😂 I hope you strapped in 😅
The lyrics gives me goosebumps too! It’s happening right now 😮
According to Dave... This song is about the division of Ireland... And Punishment Due is from the comic The punisher... They were one of the big four of thrash...
She wolf live with drum solo is true musicianship all around epic performance
