For me this is way too techy to be speed metal also, Megadeth is sometimes seen as quite a political band but this is the only song about that topic on the record. :)

The bass line is classic. It was the opening for MTV News for a long time.
To my understanding, Dave wrote this about how people at the time viewed heavy metal fans

Heavy metal is such a unique style of music. Most people just complain that its noise and screaming. But if you actually listen to the instruments & lyrics heavy metal tells some of the best stories in the world

Hey, cool reaction. People always assume metal is just long haired guys screaming. They're actually masterclass musicians with meaningful lyrics. The world will always try to tarnish good things. Glad you're discovering how powerful this music is. A lot of these tunes were written in the eighties and still hold true today, rock on 😎🤘🤘✌️🇨🇦, and by the way, not sure if you guys have heard of freedom convoy that is happening in Canada, they are standing up to government to end ALL mandates, US truckers are standing with our truckers also, gonna be huge, check it out, send your support in a message if you feel the same way, thanks😊

It's funny how many old-school hip hop fans end up liking heavy metal. They're similar in that they both have something serious to say especially concerning social injustices and prejudices. Back in my high school days (the '80s) for every hour I spent listening to Megadeth or Iron Maiden I spent an hour listening to KRS-One or Afrika Bambaataa. Cheers.

It's quite an interesting intersection I'm glad somebody else pointed it out. In my younger more immature days I absolutely wouldn't give rap or hip hop a chance but I loved metal. As I got older and opened up my musical tastes I found I really liked a lot of rap and hip hop and it was awesome to go discover it all like it was new.

I remember back in the days. They played a couple of songs on the Arsenio Hall Show. Blew their audience away , awkward silence when the songs ended then the crowd would erupted in cheers, woof woof aja! They weren't used to this kind of music but knew it was bad ass. Arsenio and Dave Mustaine got along. Arsenio invited Megadeth twice to the show. early '90s, he liked Megadeth. We all talked about it at school. Might be some footage here on youtube, should see if its there.

The Peace Sells tour was the first time I saw Megadeth live........in a club! Either '85 or '86. I was like 18 or 19. It's floating around RUclips. They were just getting popular after Dave formed the band and played a few clubs in the Bay Area. Most of the hardcore metal bands would come up to Sacramento from SF and play at the El Dorado Saloon. Yes, Megadeth absolutely ruled that show. It was a special time in music and we lived in the golden age! All worship this time in music!

This was such a landmark song when it was released. The amazing piece about this is that the song still holds relevant as much today as it did when it first came out in 1982. I love the musicianship and of course, as I’m sure you’ve heard with lots of comments, the iconic bass intro Was used for MTV news. MTV was still really cool. Great song and a great reaction. Dave Mustaine is the main rhythm guitarist in Megadeth, but he can definitely solo also. They've had a revolving door of lead (solo) guitarists. My favorite is probably Marty Friedman. Check out Tornado of Souls for one of his most epic solos.
More Megadeth to check out: Symphony of Destruction, Countdown To Extinction, and Sweating Bullets are 3 great tracks from the early 90s.

As a kid I would listen to disco, some rock and pop music. I wouldn't get into heavy metal at all. Once I got to high school I dived into metal right away so fast that I now have around 300 tapes, over 300 CD's and building up on vinyl records but only those albums that deserves to be purchased on this format. Megadeth is my favorite.
    Funny story:
I was once cleaning and organizing my closet and found a special edition magazine about Madonna. I started to glimpsed on it and came across a questionnaire which was already answered (hand written), so I started to read it and two of the questions got my attention. Which genre of music you like? Which genre of music you dislike?
When I got to the second, I read: heavy metal. I was amazed of how I could have possibly answered that I dislike heavy metal. I even analyzed the hand righting to se if it was really me that answered it. Yes, it was me. At that time I was listening to metal all day long as much

Compared to other Thrash Metal bands Megadeth’s bass lines, drum work, snd rhythm during guitar transitions have a jazz and/or blues feel to them hidden within the technicality of the guitars. Especially in this song wheee the bass feels jazzy and blues influenced. The way Megadeth pulls you into this sound is what I like about this band. And their lyrics actually have a meaning that in certain songs sound prophetic. I grew up a Metallica fan and Megadeth hater because as a Metallica fan your supposed to back then because “we” had kicked out Dave Mustaine because he was a violent drunk who punched James Hetfield dropping him on his back. What we didn’t know at the time was that James had kicked his pit bull puppy for chewing on Cliff Burtons Bass guitars. Then years later after Megadeth dropped the Rust in Peace album I was at a friends pool party and he had a song called 5 Magics playing when I got there and it was fire. But I had no idea I was hearing Megadeth, so my friend told me it was Megadeth. He then put on The Conjuring and I was mind blown. He gave me 2 CD’s named Peace Sells and Rust in Peace and told me that he knew we were Metallica fan boys but to give them a try and if I didn’t like them I could give them back to him. Have been a Megadeth fan ever since.

In case u are wondering, this is what a band tripping on heroin sounds like... 😂Back in 1985, Megadeth was mainman Dave Mustaine (vocals/guitar) , David Ellefson (bass), Chris Poland (guitar) & Gar Samuelson (drums)... Poland and Samuelson came from jazz music backgrounds prior to joining Megadeth in 1983/'84, so they were involved w/ heroin, and they brought that habit into the band... Mustaine had been a drug dealer since he was a teen, but this was hardcore drug use. And Ellefson was the kid of the band who got into the habit to keep up...
When Megadeth toured in 1986 for the 'Peace sells' record, the band members were literally fighting each other on a regular basis ... When they came home after the tour, both Poland & Samuelson were fired for pawning Megadeth's equipment for drug money... Mustaine & Ellefson hired Jeff Young (guitar) & Chuck Behler (drums) in 1987 to record the next Megadeth album 'So far, so good, so what!'
Gar Samuelson died in 1999 from liver failure after years of drug abuse.
Chris Poland said he got clean after being fired from Megadeth, and still makes music today.

Back in 1988 as a spotty out of control irresponsible idiot with a death wish standing in the middle of a muddy field with a 120,000 other metalheads in the pouring rain , high, drunk and totally wasted and Megadeth kicked in to Peace Sells. It was a fucking magical moment and everything just fitted in to place. A very maturing moment when your only 17, the message was loud and clear. I will admit the magical moment could have been the drugs kicking in but a moment in life i will never forget.

Marty Friedman gets a lot of credit for being the bands best lead guitar player and deservedly so given the records released during his time in the band. But for me personally, Chris Poland was the best guitar player in Megadeth's history. Those first two records he played on, nobody sounded like him at that time. He is a very underrated player.

Dave Mustaine is not only an awesome guitarist he is the lead singer. 3 of my favorites and also worth your time and reaction videos are Hangar 18, In My Darkest Hour, and Sweating Bullets.

Ah, this brings me back to my childhood. Jean jackets with buttons and long nights in front of bond fires talking with friends. What a deep lyric. "Peace sells, but who's buying" Think about it...

Whats cool about Megadeth Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland have a background in jazz. You can hear tthat influence in their songs

Dave splits the solos with whoever is the other guitarist. They all are really good.

when I was a teenager I listened to bands like Megadeath and Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slayer.. what's strange is that on the radio or TV you never heard this music, it was always pop or rock.. it seemed if I knew cool songs from a parallel universe.
