How Butterfree Stunned Competitive Players.

  • Pokemon Competitive Singles in Gen 3 is full of creative players. Despite it's many shortcomings, Butterfree has more merit than you might think. Thanks to Compound Eyes, Butterfree can boost the accuracy of Sleep Powder and Stun Spore, making it one of the only Pokemon in the game with these 2 accurate forms of status.
Butterfree sets itself apart from Smeargle thanks to it's Bug/Flying typing providing Ground immunity, Arena Trap immunity and of course Spike immunity.
Butterfree also has access to Thief for a form of item removal. How incredibly useful.
Butterfree is considered the greatest Pokemon in human history by many scholars.
    This is insane.
Iron Mugulis and Iron Fellow know all about it. Old Money doesn't know a thing.
Only JimCool knows about the viability of Butterfree. All other sources of information are liars and are inaccurate.

My Outro is a remix made by me that I submitted to the Viper Rapper RUclips channel:
    • Viper - You'll Goin Ma...
Some will never figure out how to get Butterfree in Pokemon Scarlet and Butterfree Violet. But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Pikachu Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Butterfree Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.
The below text is very relevant to many people.
Game Freak just blew all other online game development schools out of the water with this incredible new 2022 release. You're gonna need to get a game design degree online, and FAST, if you want to make a better game than this. Not even the best strategy games android reddit could hold a candle to this breathtaking Next generation competitive Pokemon experience.
Scream Tail is the Jigglypuff of our wildest dreams. It has been buffed with some higher statistics and the incredible ability, Protosynthesis. Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on RUclips. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

Also an extremely funny tech option on Butterfree is Nightmare. Mega inconsistent, but punishes folks staying in to burn a sleep turn expecting Butterfree to have no damage output. And Bug/Rock typing gets a lot of flack, but I think it's actually pretty solid. It only has 3 weaknesses, one of which is Steel and only really counts when it's Metagross' Meteor Mash. Its resistances aren't a lot, but it's defensively neutral to a lot that either type on its own would be weak to. I think Compound Eyes would be a very reasonable ability for Armaldo, honestly.

@@MKL874 Well that's what people tend to say. But the combination of Rock and Bug is pretty solid for STAB, and as an offensive Pokemon being defensively neutral to everything but 3 types is pretty good. It also doesn't have any double weaknesses, so depending on stats it can net you some useful switch in opportunities. Also, if you remember, this is a theoretical for a Rock type with Compound Eyes, so accuracy for Rock moves wouldn't be a problem anyway.

    • @reddragonair3147

Well, competitive doesn't usually work much like the single-player campaigns. The level of strategy and planning is something else entirely. NPCs almost never switch out, but it's super common in competitive because a good guess on your opponent's action can give you a huge advantage.
Basically, NPCs won't really stop you from using Sleep Powder + Dream Eater all day long, but competitive players will try to outspeed you or use substitute and your Butterfree will likely be OHKO'd by anything it doesn't resist/ignore, so with it's meh speed it's just a free KO for your opponent if you don't predict correctly to get it in safely.

I will say this. As a man that played the very first pokemon. Butterfrees potential is limitless. I exclusively played her in Gold. Before i gave up my Gold version gmby color game, Buttery was not only undefeated but also nearly unstoppable. Trained her from the ground up, zero rare candys, and every vitamin buff you could get with acuracy and special defense as my focus. I trained it against its weaknesses to give it just a hairs edge to at least survive any obvious super effective hits. And viola.......unstoppable. moves i had were sleep powder, leechseed, dream eater, and phsycic. Anything i couldnt take out with dream eater or phsycic, leechseed did the work. I never switched. Often times taking on an entire set of pokemon leaving maybe 1 or 2 in my opponents pocket. And i always told them, if you loose more than 2 pokemon to Butterfree, you will loose no matter how good you are because i spent that much time on her as one of my most favorite pokemon that was equally heavily underrated. What usually followed after her was either a Glass Cannon built Gengar i had in my back pocket as either a stall or take out pokemon or a Typhlosion who could usually take on some of the best on his own even with handicaps, as i trained all of my pokemon against their weaknesses purposely to handle the moves that effected them the most, especially support moves. Let me tell you. Hands down best strat started before i even built the team i had. It started literally with how much time and effort i put into their leveling. They say that doing what i did doesnt make a difference algorythmically based on stats as thats not hiw the games worked even back then. Well i can say that it definitelly worked and payed off for me bcuz my pokemon at level 70 were taking out level 100 pokemon with ease. Some were rare candys specials, others were closely built as my team was. But i put a lot of thought into how i was going to train them. I wanted my team to be tanky against their weaknesses. Enough so that i would survive and keep them alive as long as i needed them to be. Wether the game was fast or slow, either way my opponent usually left embarrased and demoralised that no matter what they did they were at the mercy of my game. As it would often start with a false sense of security based attitude of "I got this, you suck, look at your lineup," for them it was like going to a candy covered house only to be locked up inside and see the horror of what lied beneath the candy covered shingles.

Doing more esoteric and difficult Pokemon challenge runs has seriously taught me the major strengths of the early route bug type. Not just Butterfree, but its counterparts are all also viable in their own ways. Dustox, for example, has very solid defensive utility given the fact that it learns both Moonlight and Protect through level up, along with having multiple 4x resistances and some decent offensive coverage.

I use Butterfree in LeafGreen/FireRed and its ROM Hacks. I searched for Butterfree being underrated and found this video, which gives me so much joy 😁
Compound Eyes + Sleep Powder is so fun. And yeah you can pretty easily win Pokémon games with anything, but it’s still more fun than using a Psychic Pokémon and using the Psychic attack, which was ridiculously OP in gen 1

The best I can think of would be being a not very good substitute salac berry with endeavor user. Gen 3 doesn't have focus sash tho and beedrill doesn't learn endure, which would help. Get low with sub and salac then endeavor and twineedle for the kill to get boosts? Thats all ai got 🫠

I remember Using a Vivillon back in gen 6 using a similar set Running Sleep powder, Quiver Dance, Hurricane, and either Stun Spore or Bug Buzz. Not Every one would switch when sleep powder was used, but would when quiver dance was used on the following turn. It usually meant something took some decent chip damage in following switch.
