    If you are a young person or someone who is easily intimidated, take someone else with you car shopping who is not easy to intimidate.

      Took my dad with me when I purchased my first new car.
      He took control from start to finish.
      He wasn’t exactly very nice to the salesman or the manager.
      These people are not your friends he told me.

A dealerships staff will be very polite to you and treat you like you are their friend to give you that warm and fuzzy feeling to earn your trust so that they can make as much money off of you as possible. Oftentimes after the sale, they are not as eager to help you.

      My father, got me a good deal on my car. Brought advertisements from 3 other dealerships for the same car, dealership honored it. Also, he wasn’t that nice to the salesman, also he’s a lawyer, lol.

      I remember when I was around 10 years old my parents were in the market for a station wagon, the salesman showed up at our house the next day after test driving one the previous day. I dont think that would fly today.

      Me also, a sale has also to with liking the guy. If I see such a " smart guy " I dont buy. I do like more " humble" persons where I get the feeling he is honnest. With the " smart" fast guy I get the feeling he try tofuck me. In the netherlands we say buying is somthing " I buy also because I like the guy" we call that " gunnen" , dont know the word in English.

    Whenever I'm in the process of buying or leasing a vehicle, I have one non-negotiable rule: PLEASE DO NOT WASTE MY TIME! I make this abundantly clear at the very beginning of the process, whether it's over the phone or at the dealership. By this time, I've already done all of the research on the vehicle(s), have test driven them, and I know what I'm willing to pay for them. If I detect even the slightest hint of my time being wasted on any sort of bullshit, I'm out the door, never to return. If everyone did this, the industry as a whole would get the message loud and clear.

      Just like what Tesla did, we don’t need bs dealership to markup the price which were already well overpriced. And buy straight from manufacturers. If Tesla is selling for $39990. It’s same price from Niagara fall to key west

      @@LinLi-hi1zj The best buying/leasing experience I've ever had was in the late 1990s and early 2000s when I leased a 1999 and then a 2002 Saturn SL2, which was the last year of that design. Prior to Saturn coming completely under the thumb of GM, they were well renowned for no haggle pricing and how transparent they were with the cost of the vehicle and its options. Other than dealer added accessories, if one wanted any, the price was the price. It's no accident that Saturn regularly ranked at or near the top in overall customer satisfaction and had a fiercely loyal following. Again, to this day, I've never been able to duplicate the fully positive experiences I enjoyed with Saturn. Sounds like Tesla may be on to something here.

    Just bought my first car thanks to your channel! I was surprised to find a salesman who actually didn’t get on my nerves and I’m really happy with the deal. They didn’t try to add ANY fees, the doc fee was a little high but I decided to just give it to him for how easy the deal went. The finance guy said he wanted to go home to watch golf, so he didn’t try very hard to add the extras.

      I remember years ago we were at a dealership and they took our drivers licenses and were giving us the runaround and we got pissed and walked out… we forgot to ask for our licenses back. The next day I went back and made quite the scene calling them dishonest shisters and second rate crooks

    I’ve done that before as a consumer. What I discovered is no sales person knows their product anymore. They, themselves have to read a brochure or study the window sticker to see what comes on the vehicle. They no longer know what model has what options, etc. they are merely guides.

    Dealers in my area (Las Vegas) don't do intimidation, at least not in my personal experience recently. Their approach is very straightforward: 1. Here's the vehicle price (MSRP) 2. There are dealer add-ons which cost X. 3. Taxes and doc fees and license fees are Y. 4. 1 + 2 + 3 is the total selling price. 5. Take it or leave it...they don't care either way

    Great videos. Purchased a car a couple of weeks ago and you guys saved me hundreds. Shot down the silly fees and I could see the finance manager getting disappointed as the fees flew away.

    Thanks for your help. I agree best way to find a salesperson who cares is to call about an issue. Usually you won’t even get a call back. When the car clears the stealerships driveway they have already forgotten your name!

      Absolutely. You can test them, call the sales line but act like you have a parts le service question. If they give you the time of day to help out, that doesn't necessarily mean you can 100% trust them but at least they're a little better than the jerk who doesn't want to talk to you unless you're handing them money.

    One of the foundation stones of sales psychology is overcoming objections. This is what inevitably happens. The sales person expects you to have objections. The salesperson puts lots of energy into overcoming objections. One of the first things sales people are taught is that [ NO ] is not a barrier like a brick wall. It is more like a plastic orange traffic cone that you merely have to walk around.

      You're correct. NO isn't a brick wall for all people. In this case, especially as it applies to cars, because I know the process to well, I continue until my goal is accomplished. At that point, I say NO... and I'm gone. It's the non-negotiable end. There are plenty of others I know who follow suit.

    Right now it’s a sellers market. If you don’t pay up, the next buyer will. People are paying too much. It’s best to just wait until next year, if possible.

    I made a 5% lower counteroffer on the first presented deal. The salesman said he wouldn't deal. He literally said that. We walked out. Lots more 'dealers' out there, who actually deal. Fortunately, a new car is a 'nice to have' for us, not a necessity. Thanks for your great advice, Kevin and Liz.

    The question I like to ask salespeople in the end when I'm not ready to buy is 'did you marry the 1st person you dates?'. In the unlikely event they say "Yes", I just say I'm not that in love with that car!!

    In the past I walk in, ignore them as much as possible. They ask a dumb question like, what brought you in I give a saracastic answer. My car, or if you can't figure that out why would I need to talk to you?

    I really don't have a problem with the first 80% of his video. Having someone listen and ensure that they are finding you a car the suits your needs. A salesman has his hustle too. I appreciate your video so we can prepare our hustle.

      Honestly if car salesmen worked more like a realtor it would feel less pushy. They can sell while asking if it’s the best fit. Not BUY BUY BUY

    Have your own plan and always stick to it do not deviate from it in the dealership. If the car salesman has made you unsure walk out and do more research remember it's not the car salesman that's going to have to live with the decision you make you will have to live with it.

    If the sale guy ask you why you are there, just tell them you're there to look at a car in person, so you can buy it online elsewhere without pushy sales person trying to sell you things you dont want or need.

      I mean, you can do that, but if you actually want to test drive something while you're there why would they help you? An experienced salesperson will move to another customer and an inexperienced salesperson will believe you and be so sure that you don't want to be bothered that they'll try to talk you out of trying to move forward to drive something.

    Questions for the Homework Guys: 1) What happens to the salesman when you walk out at your ONLY "no" response? 2) Are there a few NEVER's for these salesmen? What are they and how will the Sales manager know this? Big "Never's for salesmen" must cost Dealers a lot of money? How can a Dealer stay in business if their sale people iritate so many potentiual buyers? This is why I am learning from your THG channel.

      It’s really easy in principle. As a dealer, don’t establish a toxic sales culture hell bent on screwing over the customer to cheat them out of as much money as possible through ignorance. Like I said, easy in principle - seems to be impossible in practice though.

      Of course he is. Car salesmen are notorious for being functioning alcoholics or addicted to drugs. Dealer are one of the few places those types can get a job.

    I bought a 1999 Olds Cutlass last year they made that style. We walked in my wife, I our 4 year old son ( now a college business grad) we didn't have a chance. I knew how badly we were screwed the following day, when I went to pickup a couple of documents at the dealer, and everyone on the sales floor was looking out of their office to see what I looked like. Just out of spite I kept the car fourteen years, and 163 thousand miles, it turned out to be a highly reliable car. I only got rid of it because I wanted a vehicle with more airbag protection, the Olds only had two.😁

    I watch Andy videos to be able to spot his students when I go to buy a car. If I identify one, I give him one chance to either completely change his approach or go get someone else. If they don’t, I leave.

      He's training thousands of sales staff from around the country. That's the bad news. The good news is that consumers are on to this stuff, so dealers will eventually stop sending people there to get trained. We provide the other side of the coin, and pull the rug out from under them.     I just drove three hours to see a car at a dealership after making sure the car was there. Get there and one says the car is at Pep Boys getting an alignment and someone else says it’s on loan. Said they’d go get it if I’d sign a contract. I actually went with it for a bit until the salesman got mad at me for calling my wife to talk about the price. He actually said “You’re the one buying the car aren’t you?” He also made a calculation mistake that his boss caught that added $500 back to the vehicle. Not a mistake, I’m sure it was on purpose. I can’t imagine a worse time at a car lot.

    My last truck purchase in 2017 was 45 days from first look to signing. Had the exact truck picked out about 15 days into the dealing.

      I bought at a nice discount in ‘13 when the ‘14’s were filling the lots. Then traded up to a ‘17 when the ‘18’s were showing up.

That car along with "all those other things" (options) is going to drop by 20% -30% or more as soon as the wheels move off the dealers property.

    Never change vehicles for better fuel economy. You spend many $ thousands extra for this and that $ can buy a lot of gas for your current vehicle. Besides smaller lighter cars do not fare as well as larger heavier vehicles, simple laws of physics

      It would be very difficult to go through the whole process start to finish without taking forever unless the salespeople did everything "right." But if they did there would be no tricks to beat them to show people because they wouldn't be doing the things to warn people about, and then that wouldn't be a very engaging video.
      That's why hidden camera stuff is usually focused on one part of the process and specifically the bad stuff, to use as a teaching moment.

    In the current market conditions, the buyers have very little leverage. The demand far out weighs the supply, if you don’t buy, many dealers can find 10 buyers behind you. Now when the supply levels out, different story

      On some issues, perhaps. Chevy Dude can't discuss some of the subjects we do because he has alliances with his Dealership. That means he won't tell you that a document fee is an entirely unnecessary fee. He won't tell you that Chevy makes most of the cars that people shouldn't buy... So, as I said, it would have to be selective stuff. That's why his videos are selective. That said, I still think the business in general would be better off if others did the same, so I have no complaints about his videos.

    I always tell the finance guy no, but he insisted on trying to sell me. The ONLY product I ever bought was a tire plan because it was an unlimited mile tire plan for 5 years. Just bring in the tire and we replace it no questions asked… they put it in writing too. tire plan cost was $500 but tires cost $300 per tire. Thing is I am a courier and drive 75k miles per year…. I reverse screwed the dealer for sure. On my fourth set of complete tires.

      The legit fact-finding questions aren't so bad. If a customer walks up and asks me about a truck because they're going to do towing, but they don't give more information, it makes sense to ask how much they expect to pull or what Terrain they intend to travel. No need to pull up a more expensive truck than the basic that will fit their needs.

    I have just drove through a car lot. Within minutes salesman walking up. What can I do for you today?
    I say nothing right now, just looking at used trucks and prices. They go on about helping me look, I say no help needed I found them. If I see something for a price and within the miles on odometer I am ok with. I will come get you when I want the keys to test drive it. They hate it because they lost the control at that point.

      Go to the dealership on a Sunday when they're closed. Then you can look at the cars at your leisure without a pushy salesman harassing you. That's what I did the last time I bought a car. By the time I met with the salesman, I already had the vehicle picked out.

    Take control early. Let the salesman know you are doing research and will be testing two other vehicles and you won’t make a decision until you do. That is stronger than “having to think about it” or “I need to discuss with my spouse”. Never buy on the first visit.

    Just walked out of this dealship..after ,going thru all the paperwork. Etc..i12lm
    To 2:46..they had issues with a loan, because I am not working retired. Then I offer cash 17, 000 they said no because they are negative as it is 18,000 was the price..was 2015 honda civic ex sedan 4d.. 45 422 miles..has small chop on window front and a small scratch....black color..my trade was viable because engine light came on. So offer 300.00..cannot do..so I left after all that ..was it a fair hood cash offer

    My problem, all the dealers have gone to MSRP + $5,000.00 worth of fictional add-ons, and some have even used the line "Market Adjustment" to further increase their prices, and worse.
    I can easily wipe out the fabric protection for $700 and the pin stripe for $200 and the nitro tire fill for $185, and kill the market adjustment too. They will barely budge on the MSRP. I DO NOT want to pay MSRP. Any ideas on that?

    I went to a Dodge dealership and I seen 3 Dodge Chargers on the website, the website says 2021 and I spoke to em over the phone and they told me the ones they have, then when I went in to look at em they said 2020, and the salesman man was telling me they are 2021 and I clearly see 2020 on the dashboard

    This channel had helped out immensely. We watched your last video on Andy. So i started watching Andy's channel to learn his "killing it". Now i knew what to look for as tactics.
    We found a salesman who just answered our questions (but still asked for the sale) and wasn't pushy. We walked out of 3 stealerships because we knew what to look for.
    We just bought 2 trucks at great deals from him. Win/ win.
    Don't mind asking for the sale , just don't ignore questions.
