    teespring.com/stores/the-home...
The Homework Guy Team publishes videos to help Car Buyers. We don’t hate Car Dealerships. Instead, we represent Car Buyers, a goal that’s often in direct conflict with Car Dealer goals.
    A CAR DEALER WANTS TO:
    1. SELL every car for the Highest Possible Price.
    2. CONVINCE Car Buyers to use Dealer affiliated Lenders / Banks.
    3. LOAD every Car Deal full of Fees and Finance Products.
    4. OFFER Lowball numbers on every Trade Vehicle.
THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
    1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
    2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
    3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
    4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.
THG didn’t give Car Dealers their Bad Reputation. For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED it by being the masters of predatory selling. They stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and often do. While the business has had record setting profits, Dealers never stop telling Car Buyers “We’re losing money!” That’s the bed Car Dealers custom built for themselves. We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get by all the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency, and we’d love to see a few dealers join our mission!
The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. The public face of THG is Kevin Hunter and the master negotiator, Elizabeth. Tons of time and research goes into every show, planning for weeks, several projects always on the table, all with the goal of getting it exactly right. From Automotive News Updates to vehicle shopping advice and assistance, The Homework Guy Team is the best there is.

I used the info from your videos to purchase a new truck about 6 months ago. Set up a new email. Went back and forth with about 5 dealerships on the exact truck I wanted. Some were very terrible to deal with. Got financing through my credit union. Once we agreed on final OTD price, I told them to please have all paperwork printed and ready to sign. Sure enough, I walked in, drove the truck, signed the paperwork...with no additional fees, and drove off the lot. Total time at dealership was probably 30 mins. 😎. It was a complete different experience having some insider knowledge.

I recently purchased a Ford Maverick from Mullinax FORD IN Smyrna Beach Florida. The MSRP of all the vehicles I looked at was lower than any other dealer I had been to. This dealer had no fees and only added the tax, tag and title to the contract. I was treated nicely throughout the process and even had bottled water delivered. The truck was detailed and filled with gas before I left. I could not ask for anything more from the dealer or John Moore my salesman.

Funny. Tony here is why most people hate car shopping. And a big reason why I keep cars an average of 12 years. Unfortunately I’ve been car shopping recently and have run into a few “Tony’s”. One recently came out the front door to start humping my leg before I could even get out of the car. As I always do I made no eye contact and walked the other way. He called out but I always ignore them. I never respond to someone who doesn’t approach me like a professional. Make them walk all the way over to me before I shut them down. He asked what we were looking for so I told him I had a day off so I decided to go and try to get screwed by a car salesman. He looked at my wife. She just shook her head and walked away.

I've seen a lot of this before. Your videos have taught me a lot. When I was looking for a truck in 2018, I went to my local Nissan dealership and took a test drive. As soon as we got back, I was handed off to a different salesman. I was told that was just the way they did things (each customer is handed to not less than three different salespeople before they finish a deal). I thanked them for their time and left immediately. Would you please either let me know here why a dealership would hand a customer around like a hot potato, or answer it in a video (if it's a common practice)? Thank you for your time. #TheHomeworkGuy

In my amateur opinion, turning you over to a different salesperson is just a way to keep you confused and keep the salespeople fresh so each one only absorbs a little mental stress.

But thanks to Kevin's videos I learned what to do and what not to do, so I breezed by all of these. It's fun to watch this and recall my experience with this dealer. Granted it was my first time buying a car at a dealer so I didn't get the ULTIMATE deal, but I definitely moved them from their price and had them throw in quick a few extras.

I sold books door to door in college .. We learned via sales talk as well.. And the folks that did the best were robotic .. To them it was a simple #s game.. ring enough door bells and you will get sales.
We were taught to push push push to get the sale. Don't concern ourselves with whether or not the customer could afford what we were pushing.
I didn't sell much at all .. but it was a very good job to allow you to learn to be able to talk with people. I will confess I went off script and tried to be myself.
Again, I didn't make much money but gained a lot of confidence being comfortable talking with folks.
Best worst job I ever had. :)

I saw this video right after getting out of the shower. I feel like I want to go back and shower again. What's the best soap for getting rid of slime? I think it's important to identify the FIRST time one of these tricks comes out, and put a stop to it.
Saleman: "What's your phone number? Is it 712...?"
Me: "We're not there yet. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, okay?"
Salesman: "What kind of monthly payment were you looking for?"
Me: "We haven't even landed on a car yet. What do you say we do the important things first?"
"We're not there yet" is my go-to answer. "If I could find the right car..." - we're not there yet. "Were you looking to buy, or lease?" -- we're not there yet.
The snakeoil salesman in the video is right about one thing: Control is important. So, don't give yours up. Every time he tries to force his agenda, reassert yours. Give him a chance to catch on, and if he doesn't change course, LEAVE. "I've tried to be patient here, but you seem more interested in pushing your agenda than meeting my needs, so I'll wish you a good day and leave you to your business." If he's not willing to listen and let you guide the flow early on, it will only get worse once he smells a chance to "close" you.

@@KevinHunter Hey -- thanks, Kevin! I'm going to be placing an order soon. I did the entire fact finding and negotiating process via email, and the results were pretty amazing. I landed an offer well below invoice and only had a couple of tiny things on the deal to clean up. Reaching out to a dozen dealers with the same request allowed the best dealers and offers to bubble right up to the top with very little effort on my part, and the whole mood of the process was 100% better than the normal in-person sparring and jousting. I think it's really important to separate the process of finding the car you want from the process of negotiating the deal. I researched the vehicle until I knew exactly what I wanted, and then went home to start dealing. I'll never try to do both at the dealership again. If you ever want details on my experience, I'm happy to share. #thehomeworkguy

This piece of advice travels all over the world, and across all businesses.
In foreign countries, in ANY country, avoid the restaurants in the "big city touristy" areas with waiters trying to call you in from the sidewalk. If the food is good and the prices are fair, there will often be a line outside, and often you'll need to ask your hotel concierge to make dinner reservations for you.

The car salesman said to her "The preferred bank for subprime deals at this dealership has a rule that the car has to cost less than $XXX. There is only one car on this lot that costs less than $XXX. It is a 2015 Ford compact sedan. Do you want to buy the car?" My sister has always driven a small four door sedan. However, she was not planning to buy the Ford brand On the other hand, she was impatient to get into a different car. She ended up saying to the salesman "OK Whatever. Where do I sign to seal the deal?"
That is how my sister got a 22 percent five year car loan in October 2018. I have been trying to gently persuade her to consider refinancing. I told her "Wouldn't you like an extra chunk of money to spend on groceries every month? You could probably get a better interest rate now that you are farther away from your bankruptcy discharge date."

3:98 point: It really isn't arrogance to say, bluntly, that customers make excuses. They DO want a car, but don't want to admit it. It's a lot like the girl you meet. She does want to fuck, but does not want the responsibility of saying yes. Like women, customers want you to be a flawless mind reader, a daddy and mommy all rolled into one. Most of the time you really do have to MAKE them do things that they already want to do. In America, the majority of persons live under the total illusion that they know what they want. The reality is, they want the things that they are told and conditioned to want. Like children, they have no actual real idea what is tangibly good. As long as you make them FEEL good, that is all that matters to them. This is simply the reality. There is really no difference here between Tony and Kevin. Kevin is SELLING you the feeling "I can outsmart the dealer", and Kevin wants you to PAY HIM for that feeling.

Evan nailed it. Without question, they are manipulating the human being, and thereby control the situation. The desired outcome: They want you in a car with the highest profit potential possible. Ticket to this outcome: Get you so emotionally involved that you forget about reasonable logical thought processes. You throw your budget and wallet concerns to the wind. Your caution gone, the "go big or go home" idea is driving you to the end. They only want you thinking about things they give you permission to think about.
Take the same kind of manipulation to any other decision making process and people start to say "This is clear mistreatment. It's immoral, unethical, even cruel." The things a person commits to or signs under such duress don't stand up in court in nearly any other setting. When a salesman takes action on someone that is intended to get them to do something against their will or better judgment, they are also stepping across a legal line in pretty much any state.

Years ago, when I took my daughter to get a car, the first thing they did was have her fill out a credit application. Then they tried to charge us $2,000 over what she was approved for (because she had her daddy was there to make up the difference.) They wanted $14,000 for a $7,000 car. We should have left but my daughter needed a car fast, so I was stuck dealing with these jerks.
Salesmen are trained to get you to say "Yes". They will ask you a series of questions so you say "Yes" over and over. Consider how that affects your sales resistance (ability to say "No") when the salesperson keeps "making sense" by asking you things to which the only logical answer is "Yes". After he takes down the "Yes" road, it's so easy to say "Yes" to "The Deal".

He wrote fraudulent Total Loss Letters to lenders about severely underwater cars customers had, saying they had been totaled (to get rid of the vehicle). Thanks for your comments! Your observation is spot on. In just 5 years, Tony Swedberg has become convinced that skating on the other side of the truth is something car salesmen should do, so he coaches them to do it. It occurs to him occasionally that people should really be telling the truth, so he contradicts earlier statements by saying "You should find out so you don't have to lie." Why wouldn't he say "You should never lie to people." In order to keep a job at a dealership and do what the owners expect of you... and to never get fired... you have to learn to lie a lot. Why? Because the "value proposition" the dealer puts out there is built on a lie from start to finish. To sell it, you have to add to the lie. Told long enough, the lie feels like truth, and that's the kool-aid that seems to infect the minds of many in the business.
