With Titles like 11 Fake Fees, to Don't Say I'm Paying Cash at Car dealerships, and Car Shortage Crisis, and Car Dealer Says Bring the Car Back!... The Homework Guy Team publishes videos to help Car Buyers. Then we added Cash Buyer Negotiations, and Held Hostage at a Car Dealership, No Haggle One Price Car Dealerships, How Much do Used Car Dealers Pay for Cars?, 10 Things You Should Not Say to Car dealerships, and the Costco Auto Program. We hit all the topics, and we represent Car Buyers, a goal that’s often in direct conflict with Car Dealer goals.
    A CAR DEALER WANTS TO:
    1. SELL every car for the Highest Possible Price.
    2. CONVINCE Car Buyers to use Dealer affiliated Lenders / Banks.
    3. LOAD every Car Deal full of Fees and Finance Products.
    4. OFFER Lowball numbers on every Trade Vehicle.
THE HOMEWORK GUY TEAM (THG) HELPS CAR BUYERS TO:
    1. BUY a Car from Dealers or Private Party Sellers at the Lowest Price.
    2. PAY Cash or Finance with their own Bank or Credit Union.
    3. DECLINE Dealer Fees and Finance Products.
    4. TRADE / SELL their current vehicle for the Best Value.
For more than 40 years, dealerships have EARNED their lowly reputation by being the masters of predatory selling. Dealers stalk victims relentlessly, often ruthlessly treating the most vulnerable car buyers (like seniors, for example) with little or no conscience. Car Dealers and their Finance Officers have no problem creating financial devastation for their customers with over bloated car loans, and quite often do. We point out the traps and the flaws of the process, and help car buyers get by all the nonsense without being ripped off. We promote fairness, honesty, and transparency, and we’d love to see a few dealers join our mission!
The Homework Guy Team provides car buying consumers with information, automotive news and updates, industry outlook, buying and selling advice, and other help to level the tables. The public face of THG is Kevin Hunter and the master negotiator, Amazing Elizabeth. Went to the dealership this morning and used all the tactics outlined by Kyle in this vid. It was very busy there so when we sat down to negotiate, they wanted to get a deal done quick. I just sat there and stared at them, then at the paperwork, then at them again, then at the paperwork again...then around the room a few times...over and over...for the next 80 minutes. They pleaded and begged, but when they realized they couldn't get me to respond or leave, they gave me the deal of a lifetime on my new car. Thanks Kyle, you saved me 93% off my new car!

One comment about employee family discount: never tell them you have it until you are satisfied with the dealer bottom number. Then give them the pin code for the discount. Otherwise they will balloon the price and in the end, you won’t get your discount.

    • @Davidmaccc
      @Davidmaccc 17 дней назад

I get a tspp discount and you’re right! They don’t care if you’re employed by the maker they want that money! Also for me it’s a form that’s filled out from employer and I have to prove employment by my work badge or check stub

The dealer invoice cost is not a real number--what they paid is much lower than that number. Only way you're going to get the right deal is playing several dealers against each other until the best price is revealed.

I was a so many dealerships looking for a great deal and it's december and no one would budge. I had one price online and the dealer tried selling it to me at a much higher price until I should him the screeshot. I didnt like him now, so i passed on it. The next day it was listed even cheaper. I didnt go back because he was very frustrated n rude with me when I didnt agree. He said im a procrastinator. I let all dealers know I had several appts and will not stop until im happy. I listened my friend when he said dont get emotional and walk out and I did lol, But one dealer FINALLY did and he kept going down but it took my hours. The price dropped $2000 and he took another $1100 off. I bought it, then had the stress of being pressured for extended waranty by the finance guy. But they did know I was at other dealerships and were not letting walk out there easy, its true they will compete for you, I am happy with the deal.

Real life example for first year Mazda6. Internet pricing research, employee pricing, owner loyalty, military, college student (graduate school), dealer incentive. Purchased the six cylinder version with MSRP of almost $27k for $18,262.
Most fun was talking with one sakes manager who insisted that the dealer incentive was money for the dealer. When O countered that most dealers give that to the customer (yeah, we can use that tactic, too) he refused to budge. Oh, it so much fun driving my new Mazda back to that dealership so I could ask him how he was enjoying his dealer incentive.

Tons of great information on this video. Very solid! MSRP has always been difficult to figure out. So many different discounts, rebates, and other incentives can apply to the car sale, and it's our job to figure out what they are. As most people are aware, dealers aren't necessarily the most helpful in this regard. It's understandable that they are going to try to make as much money as they can, but the car buyer has to be aware of the fact that the dealer is going to be pulling in the exact opposite direction. As the old saying goes, "consider the source." If the dealer is strongly advising you to take certain steps, buy given products, and make specific decisions, you might guess that this advice in taking you further away from the great car deal you are hoping for. Thanks again!

Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is just the starting point for new car, truck, and suv price negotiations. There are a number of discounts and costs that you need to be aware of, so we took the time to break them down for you. They include:
    Dealer Invoice price
    Manufacturer Holdback
    Manufacturer Rebates
    Dealer Incentives
    Brand Loyalty discounts
    Regional Auto Shows
Student and Recent College Graduates discounts
Veterans and current Military Service rebates
    Senior Citizens
First time buyer programs and financing terms
    Aged Inventory
December = best month. January = worst month
Shop when there are two years of the same model on the lot.
Shop when the weather is bad... especially when it is cold out.
Shop at the end of the month
Negotiate your car deal on Tuesday or Wednesday
Shop the holidays... Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day
Get dealers to bid against each other. Real bidding wars get prices very low.
Bonus: If you think you will eventually sell the car yourself, consider options that have good resale
In the end, it all comes down to negotiation. You've done all the work, so stick to your guns. Don't cave into pressure from a frustrated finance man or car salesman who may try to "obligate" you to give in somewhere. If you've come this far, you deserve the best deal you can get. Go get em!

The operative word on the sticker is "suggested", meaning many or most of the line items can be negotiated. A gutsy person would start negotiations by stating they want 25% off MSRP. If the salesperson does not get down to around 20% off fairly quickly - walk out.

There’s a reason why you still see new F150s and Jeeps when you can get a Tundra or 4Runner they HAVE to discount them.

This stuff might work out in some Podunk area but when you get into a big suburb with a dealership that owns six or seven different car manufacturers, they don’t budge much at all!

I have found it best to go 3 hours before the dealer closes. Then the clock works in the customer's favor as the dealer personnel want to close the deal and not have you leave without the sale.

I wanted to share a story from a Ford dealership I went to to check out the 2020 Ford Ranger Lariat, a truck I thought would be great for me based on the data. The salesman stayed with me but wasn't very knowledgeable. I asked him if it had the sport exhaust and he asked me how he could tell. Most of the vehicle specs I was giving him! The Ranger I tried was not suitable for my needs after I got my leg stuck between the seat and steering wheel and then struck my head on the roof getting in. I guess he figured the sale was gone when that happened, and it hurt as well. I mentioned to him I would be getting an inheritance next year and I was going to buy the Ranger then, until now. I mentioned to him I ruled out the Honda Ridgeline and he went on to tell me that it was a really good vehicle and worth a look. After viewing a few of your videos about discussing cash and having a bad experience with the truck I went to see I can understand now why he was steering me away from his dealership. He probably figured to let Honda take the loss from cash instead of him. Thanks for all your great advice!

Another benefit of end of year models is you're missing a whole year of mileage. So basically your one year old car has no miles on it. Two 3 year old cars can have very different mileage and this can help in trade in value and resale value..

2nd best way to get best deal on a car/truck is patience....buy last year models when new ones are coming out!....chances are they haven't changed much.....
And #1 way to save the most money is the consumer....your skills at negotiating and ability to walk away and or pit 2,3 or 4 dealers against each other....
If you just wake up one day and think I gonna go get new car today you'll most likely pay way more than you should have

Good stuff guys. Watching this video made me sick to my stomach because the first two cars I bought I never negotiated the price (paid window sticker price), never shopped for best interest rates for financing and never even took the car for a test drive. Over the years I've gotten a little better, but with the tips on here, nobody is taking me to the cleaners ever again. I was so bad at buying that one time I never got to meet the finance man!! The sales guy at the dealership must have been giddy with the poor sap that walked into their place of business. Years later I came to find out that I had paid more than $6K than what I could have paid with more diligent shopping. You live and learn. Thanks Kevin, I will be sharing my story on one of your videos after I buy my new car this summer or fall.

Guess whst....i am in the same exact shape as you are in . my next car buying will be a lot different. Seems like we have to pay a lawyer to look at the contract the day you drive off the lot. Then you. Have a appointment made. If the price is right the contract looks good and its good with the lawyer then pay him 200.00. Fee. Thank him. Then leave happy. Also the bank wants to make money to for the loan. So still make a appointment with a attorney. Maybe the bank has a few secrets to. Never tell a dealership you will pay cash.never. tell finance you want the longest terms 72 months. You get a better interest rate which equals the car payment. Then go to the bank. Tell the bank to check the walk out. Price to see if its good or not. Then go to the attorneys office anyway. It will be the best. Car buying. Experience . this is definately my process for the future . this is your money. You have to pay for it. Oh..if. The process is excellent for you then dont tell the bank you seen a attorney ever. Get loan of around an even dollar amount. Have a little extra money for a great family dinner for the weekend. Then.when the first statement comes in. Go to a different location of your bank and pay it off. Your bank later will help you next time. Never tell your main bank what you did.going to another location. If you have to pay out the loan get the same six or seven years.a better interest rate to pay off the loan. So later on ypu can pay off early. Ask to see if you have to pay any penalties for future pay off. It should not be any. I have learned some extra new here. I had to learn the hard way. No help. You wouldnt believe what i have been through over the years. Seems like eighty percent of women buys trucks and cars. Car sales or dealerships ought to love us women. They dont. We are the victims. When sales sees a lady they do a automatic markup on the price of a nything we choose. So i here. Thank you all for your time. Hope i have helped some. This is a excellent video. Im new to this channel. Will continue to watch.somehow i cant get the program keeps on rewinding i will try later. Love ypu all . jan from texas.

Very good advice.. May I make a suggestion. You should create a website with the latest rebates available, also if you had a check list that anyone can print out to do their research, or while talking to a auto sales person. It would be very very helpful. Even if you charge 50 cents to a $1.00. People will buy it or have advertisement on the website and gave the print out for free you still would make a lot of money. Anyway thanks again. I learned a lot from you.
