Bought my LS400 the first weekend they went on sale in California. My nephew still drives it. Besides maintenance items and 1 water pump, and one starter it’s all original after 535,000 miles!!!!!!
You're LS400 can make it to 1 million miles or 1.6 million kilometers. As a matter of fact, there is a million mile LS 400 and it was featured on Tavarish's channel.
Wow fella that’s impressive, I was 20 when the ls400 came out in 1990, but the usual old story I couldn’t afford one, but I’ve had a few now, a 1996 ls 400 and 2004 ls430 facelift model and now an is300h hybrid, you guys don’t this model in the USA.
A friend of mine in Japan is working for Toyota R&D in Aichi. He said all the components for Lexus are produced under much more strict quality control than those for Toyota cars. It is known in Japan that Toyota has the toughest quality control than any other motor companies but Lexus has more than that. Another friend of mine who is working for Bridgestone R&D in Japan told tires refused by Lexus could be sold to other motor companies. This is the level of quality control employed in Lexus.

I was fortunate and was given the opportunity to be the Service and Parts Director for 1 of the first Lexus Dealerships in September 1989 when we started selling cars. Lexus did it right from the start with amazing product but Lexus has its reputation today because of how customers were treated by Dealership associates and that’s what Lexus IS known for. I’m proud that I played a part in building a reputation for a car and company that changed the Automobile business. This September will mark my 33 year anniversary with the same Lexus dealer I began with. Update…this September 1 2024 will mark my 35th anniversary with The Lexus dealer that I began my Lexus journey with!! And 30 days from now will mark my 40 year anniversary with the same dealer!
Toyota sales have treated me terribly given that I bought a new 4runner limited back in 2013. Was looking at the RAV4 and they ignored my emails/calls or stopped talking to me midway and made me chase them. Eventually I gave up. Ordered a 2023 RX350h and hope service is good.
@@chriskl2361 XP they also stole my mother's battery cover and air filter cover. That was how debris and tissue paper got jammed into the AC motor. I didn't need to replace anything because surprisingly the vent motor still works after removing all the things jamming it. Now I will have to hunt for a trusted mechanic because of this.
A huge difference that many folks fail to mention is the paint quality. While the German brands might be known for the best paint, Lexus ranks right up there. Next time you see a 10-year-old Lexus take note of the lack of rock chips or fading, then compare that to a Toyota, Honda, etc. So, if you want a car that drives AND looks great after 10 years, upgrade to the Lexus.
Paint, different sheet metal, different type of leather, different interior materials, different sound deadening materials, differently tuned suspension, different glass, different soundsystems, different wring and rivets, so yes, definitely worth the upgrade!
My neighbors see me working on cars a lot. One of them, a widow, had bought a new Jeep but after only 3 or 4 years, had problems with it and was quoted $4,000 by Jeep to fix it. She came over asking me for car advise. I said, if it were me, I'd get rid of the Jeep and buy a Lexus. The next week, she's driving a very nice Lexus SUV and loves it...great vehicle!!
Can you help me find a nice used Lexus RX? I live here in Denver. I know nothing about cars and I hate to go to dealer because of awful past experience.

My wife had a 2000 Lexus RX 300 with over 250, 000 miles on it before the transmission locked up on it. We just brought a 2004 Lexus RX 330 with a 152,000 miles on it and it drives perfect. I fell in love with Toyota ever since we purchase her Lexus. It's an awesome investment. I am a lifetime Toyota customer 👍👍. My 2003 Toyota Camry has over 322 000 miles on it and it's still running strong with no issues
My first love story with toyota ownership was I bought for a few thousand a 2000 SR5 (5speed) 4Runner that had 260k km on it and ??? service history. More reliable and cheaper maintenance than my 2009 Saturn Astra I bought new with 80k km that is so problematic, it was reason I had to buy the 4runner. Originally to be a temp as I fixed the Astra. Astra has barely moved over past 2 years and didnt bother fixing because 4runner was just better.
I agree completely! I was a German car buyer for 20 years. I've owned 6 Porsche 911s from 1986, 1987, 1988, 2001, 2007 & 2011. I also owned a handful of BMWs and Mercedes. I bought a 1995 Land Cruiser and not only made a killing on it, but woke the hell up about quality control, not quality of materials. QUALITY CONTROL! German cars and the two Range Rovers that I owned had quality of materials and ability to perform, but their quality control was terrible. I've never looked back! I now own a Lexus GX460 and I can tell you, it's been heaven! Not only that, the Lexus dealer experience is phenomenal!
My experiences with Porsches were quite rewarding before they were swallowed up by VW Group. They were hand built works of art that outperformed every sportscar of those eras. They were less reliable and more costly to maintain than, say a mid 80s Mercedes, but nonetheless an incredible all around economical sportscar to drive and own. Fast forward to 1996 and beyond, in this time of debt based living, they turned into the ultimate mass consumerist auto maker where growth means everything and quality control and reliability takes a distant third. VW cranked up production numbers to meet the newly opened eastern euro and Chinese markets and Porsche ceased to be what made them great. The new ones are a bore to drive with all of their weight and nanny controls and their quality measures are exactly that of an Audi…TERRIBLE. I have wonderful memories with my past Porsche experiences, especially with the earlier examples. Cheers!
@@gboules My father owns a 91 964. The first major problem we have had appeared this summer. Misfiring engine and loss of power at higher RPMs. Other than that, the car has never needed anything major with 130k+ miles. Quite a fun car!
This is the best car brand review I have seen on RUclips. I can relate to all what Ahmad said. I owned X5 for 5 years and I switched to Lexus recently. Everything this man said I experienced as owner of these two different brands. The thrill of getting behind the wheel of BMW is unmatched, but the comfort and reliability of Lexus is AMAZING. My brother owns a 2003 Lexus and still running great! Man I forgot how cars looked in 2003 except for this brand!!
just bought my wife an rx350, driving down the interstate at 80mph it feels like you're sitting in your recliner at the house. when we drove it home from the dealership i could tell it was an extremely well built vehicle.
Congratulation on your new RX 350. have a 2011 RX 350 with 200K and is driving very well. I replaced the battery last summer, 4 sets of tires... and scheduled oil changes. I do all my maintenance at the Lexus dealership. Enjoy driving yours.
@@ioneldinu6246 I have an 11 GS 350 AWD sedan, very well engineered car. It is RWD drive platform AWD more like a truck! The new Tacoma has a very similar drivetrain.
2 years ago I bought a 2009 RX450h with 160k miles It has 0 things broken (excluding wear items of course). Still drives better then pretty much any new car I ever tried. I spent very little replacing the wear items and it's now a perfect car. I spent about 1/6th the price of a new one.
@@Jimbo1268 depends on the suspension components too. Original factory came out as tokiko or kyb made struts. Someone changed mine prior to me getting it to aftermarket eBay quickstruts it seemed like. Might even be Monroes as the rears are oemspectrum. But they were blown in less than a year. Got tossed around worse than riding a bus or big Jeep or truck. Bought kybs and bam. Almost like a new car. No more being tossed back and forth going up driveway aprons. Like into parking lots from the street etc.
I bought a used, one owner, 2006 Lexus GS300 in 2013. It had 50,000 miles and was in wonderful condition. ($18,000) About two months later the check engine light came on. I took it to Lexus and they said there was a problem with the engine and that it would need to be rebuilt. They then told me that Lexus was willing to rebuild the engine with factory new replacement parts. Basically a new short block. I was given a brand new Lexus loaner car which I drove for about 1 1/2 months. When my '06 Lexus was returned it ran perfectly. The cost? ZERO DOLLARS! The car now has 120,000 miles on it and runs like a brand new one. I have had no other serious issues with this car. Just took it on a 2000 mile road trip.... gorgeous. I have never had a car company treat me this fairly....NEVER. My hat is off to Lexus. I can easily afford a new one, but I just love this GS300.
Car was NOT under warranty. I was told that a certain number of these cars were built with faulty pistons, rings and rods. I believe they went by VIN numbers of certain GS300s. Lexus immediately stood behind their car. Remember, I bought it used! Interestingly the car seemed to have more power when I got it back from Lexus. I suspect they bored the block and used slightly larger pistons?? Powerful and smooth as silk. No oil leaks in the 15 years of its life..... amazing!
@@msm2143 Just make sure the car has been maintained. Maintenance is EVERYTHING. I change the oil and filter on mine every 3500-4500 miles. Take it to a mechanic you can trust. These cars are bullet proof if taken care of.... and it's relatively inexpensive. Also, this model was Made in Japan.
This guy is absolutely the bomb as a reviewer. He is insightful and knowledgeable due to his background as a master Toyota mechanic. He breaks it down so even the average buyer can understand these cars, deftly explaining the differences between Lexus, its original parent company-Toyota- and the European brands. After multiple car reviews seen here on RUclips, I bought a Lexus RX350-h. Car is getting 40 miles to a gallon so far and that helps in this economic nightmare we are all living through even if you are solid financially. I anticipate a good maintenance history for this vehicle and a good resale return when the time comes as he suggests. Thanks for the awesome post.
@@Artecus RX350 was a lease, so it was returned at 30k miles. RX450H I owned and had 55k miles before I sold it. Sold the SC at 137k. The GS450H currently has 86k. My wife's first 2007 Prius had 220k miles before trading it in for the 2018 model. Between all of the cars mentioned, zero defects. All I know about the hybrid batteries is that when it comes to replacement, use oem and do so at the dealer. But haven't had the opportunity. At 90k, these things are just hitting their strides, if they were serviced regularly.
100%. I completely represent the Toyota/Lexus buyer that he describes. Daily drove an Audi A7 for 5 years, my other choices before I bought that were Porsche and BMW, and I chose what I thought to be the most reliable between those and by all accounts I did make the correct choice. BUT, the A7 has averaged about $2,000 a year in repairs and maintenance so far. I could afford it, but that doesn't mean I wanted to. My wife's Lexus NX200T (was an F Sport, I thought it was cool, even if AMD doesn't think so) cost nothing more than the routine maintenance. I didn't love driving that NX, but I respected how affordable it was to keep around. If I'm honest though, it handled better than the Audi in a hard downpour rain, but that was the only situation. I don't drive the Audi anymore, daily a 2022 Sienna platinum now. It's as Lexus as I could get with automatic sliding doors for the kids. Will continue to daily Toyota/Lexus in the future. I hate sounding like Scotty Kilmer, but Toyota/Lexus are reliable. I've witnessed it with my own wallet.
I'm still trying to empathize with the A7 to Sienna transition. Please don't hold a grudge against your kids and remind them of your sacrifices when they're older. 🙂
@@mafolomielvis1981 I'm a big fan of The Car Care Nut, much more useful information without any of the Scotty Kilmer clickbait and fluff. Scotty is legendary but it's just all about RUclips money for him now, the guy is making like 5 videos PER DAY.
One big selling point for me the Lexus IS has over the BMW 3-series that nobody ever talks about, is double wishbone front suspension - in a compact sedan. This makes the car way more planted in the corners and more nimble, but car reviewers will often mistake this as "boring driving dynamics" because it's less unruly with less body roll....it's actually superior. BMW tunes out some of the problems with Macphersons and make them work, but will never be better than tried and true double wishbone. The reality is that most car reviewers don't actually want a better car. They just want a more fun car - and that is often very subjective.
I was once about the rush, but now I just want plush and hush in a vehicle. You're the only (who I've heard) who ever talked about insulation in vehicle. So vital! Knock on the exterior panels on these new cars. They're empty shells. Because of you I'll look into lexus. Glad I stumbled on your channel sir, God bless!
Ive never been impressed....in the least. But then, I've repaired cars for 50 years...and know better. I know the many problems Toyota vehicles have had, and continue to have.
Fantastic cars, my 2011 RX 350 with 200K and zero problems. I only replaced the original battery last summer, 4 sets of tires and regular schedule maintenance. Enjoy your RX 350.
@@riccccccardo Hi, It's exactly what my technical advisor asked. Maybe because I drive every day for work 60 miles, and we also use my SUV in the weekends. In 10 I replaced the water pump, 4 sets of tires, beaks 3-4 times, Front Control Arm, tires sensors (TPMS) and the Front Hood struts... This is what I have on my maintenance log.
Agree. I've been a Lexus RX onwer for 4 years, it still remains strong, quiet and good to drive. No any single minor problem came up. Amazing car and I love it.
The Lexus is an incredible vehicle. Even if we get a Lexus with well over 100K on the odometer as trade in, they are still solid, quiet, ride and drive better than some new cars that just rolled off the assembly line. It's evident that a lot of effort went into the Lexus nameplate. The only thing I don't care for about Lexus of today is the front grille. Although unique, it's just too bizarre for my taste. Lexus ( and every other manufacture) needs to stop listening to automotive journalists and listen to what really matters which is the people who own these fine vehicles and what's important to them.
@@Theyralltakenfu nothing to be confused about. I did it for mostly financial reasons Sold my 13 ES350 to Carvana which was an excellent experience, they picked up my car at my home. Bought my 02 ES300 from a local dealership for $4,590 who pretty much buys cars at auction and flips them.
Bought both Lexus 2000-ES300 and 2001-RX300 used. Paid off both early because of the reliability. Basic oil, filter and air filter changes. Both still solid workmanship and no rattles to drive. Both still drive like new even after 100,000 miles. Saved a lot of money in the meantime.
I had the RX300 for years and very little apart from the usual services. The let down with the first RX was you must do regular Trans fluid changes like you do oil because the trans runs hot and toasts the fluid. Another issue was the rear hatch servo was known to fail then the door servos would keep switching until you manually locked the hatch; that burner the servos out Soni had to replace all of them, not an uncommon thing.
@@glennoc8585 I just bought an RX300 - the biggest headache I've ever had with a vehicle. The knock sensors were bad which put the vehicle into limp mode so the transmission wouldn't shift into overdrive. It was revving 5000 rpms on the highway! Took it to the shop and they replaced both knock sensors, the wiring, the exhaust, and a long list of other things. Cost me almost $2000! And driving it 2 days later all the problems came back! Still no overdrive! Now back in the shop again! Worse vehicle I've ever had.
@I Voted Psh, more like the worse vehicles ever built! I just bought an RX300 2 weeks ago - worse car I've ever owned. A full week in the shop, almost $2000 in repairs, and all the problems came back again! Now back in the shop again! And more money that I will have to dump into this endless money pit!
@I Voted Not to mention these vehicles have the worse sound system of any car I've ever drove. The radio can't pick up signal anywhere! Fuel economy is horrible, only about 17 mpg which is terrible for a small V6. Everything rattles when you drive over bumps, feels like the car is gonna fall apart! Really loud on the highway. Power locks don't work. And almost $7k that I have in this piece of junk!
My fist Lexus is a 2013 CT200h. Just hit 170k miles and have only done oil changes, brakes and tires. I am keeping this car as long as possible. Excellent value!
Great choice Marco. I have a 2012 CT200h F-Sport from new. Love the options that came with the F-Sport but have never loved the crashy ride on rougher roads. That said, it corners great and is a superb highway cruiser. Super comfortable on 2000 mile snowbird road trips. One thing to advise you though. Change your CVT and brake fluids asap and also your inverter coolant and engine coolant. Those are not expensive items, need to be done and will double your car's lifespan. You are also due for spark plug replacement - OEM NGKs are $60 and totally DIY. Happy motoring.
This video is spot on. Anyone considering purchasing a Lexus should watch it. The cars may be boring to drive, but they saved me a lot of money. I drove to France, belgium, holland and back to the UK with so much ease and didn't need to worry about breaking down. On the other hand, I would never have tried that in my Alfa Romeo.
Bought my ‘14 GX 460 a year ago with 100k on the clock. I’ve had Toyota’s for years. My wife is on her second RX, which she loves. Best truck I’ve ever owned is the GX. Her first RX was in a wreck, through no fault of her own. Excellent presentation of what it means to drive a Lexus.
I bought a 300 ES luxus in March 2021 and I agree 200% with you. Fortunately I tried a F sport 300 first and was upset about the lack of comfort. The ride of a 300 ES Luxury in comparison was totally different, smooth and silent. 15000 miles later I am still "in love" with this car and Lexus. Thank you so much for your videos. Greetings from France👍
F sports are definitely firmer. You need to get an Audi really to get the best of both worlds there as somehow they keep cars ultra comfortable and sporty.
I absolutely bought a used 2015 RX350 with less than 63000 miles based on reviews such as yours. What a great decision. I've had it 3 weeks and am confident I made a most excellent decision.
It has been a good car; I am averaging right at 21 mpg. I did have to have the neutral safety switch replaced several months ago but that is the only expense other than drain and refill transmission fluid. I have no regrets.@@emailjwr
Couldn't agree more, I've had two Lexus models, and currently have an NX 300. I can't stand stiff suspensions, large rims - 20', 21' etc. with strips of licorice for tyres, just because the car handles like a race car. I don't need to take it on a track, and you can't drive it like you stole it on the roads - not legally anyway. Hope Lexus doesn't change their philosophy, and bend to the motoring scribes - although I hear that the new NX has run flats and no spare. Enough to put many people off!
I've owned several new cars & trucks. I bought a 20 lexus that had the most uncomfortable seats I've ever owned. It also had too much road noise. When I told the dealer I wasn't satisfied, and the car had less than 300 miles he offered me $6,000 less than I paid. The car is too small inside. My car was a ES350. I don't care for rip-offs the dealers charge such as $799 prep fee, $499 nitrogen for tires & etc. Tire dealers charge $6-12 for nitrogen which isn't need. The camry I owned was a fine car. The Lincoln I have now is quiet & rides good.
@@billyhackworth4298 That’s weird I drove a 2011 ES300 and the riding quality was top notch it was comfortable that you can sleep in it while sitting on the side
I am 100% with you on that "F**Sport" thing of Lexus! And that "15 minuts drive 15 years judge" reference is spot on! This is NOT Lexus target market and they are making a big mistake wasting too much resources on fighting those "old-man-car" allegations.
When the Lexus was introduced, my uncle was invited for a test drive. He was so impressed, he traded his Klasse S for the LS400. I was shocked. How could he ?!?!? But honestly, that car was so refined, it put the Mercedes Benz to shame. The transmission was so smooth, you would think the car ran on turbine.
He’s so true about the demographic, I went from s class coupe to an LS500 and the peace of mind you get with Lexus while STILL being luxurious is priceless
My first Lexus was an NX and it was a great car, I put a lot of miles on it from my old job but it NEVER had any issues, not even minor and I kept up all the maintenance. What's nice is that once the warranty expires, you can take the Lexus to Toyota for service for half the price. I finally decided to trade it in with the great trade in market and got another Lexus and I hope to have this car for a long time. They are beautiful, reliable, luxurious and affordable in terms of what you get for your money.
You are 100% right. The NX and UX are especially GREAT values. Our 2020 UX has been flawless for 25k miles and will be perfect for a long time. We have two Lexi in our son's garage (GS & ES), one w/225,000 miles and the other w/175,000. My son says the second one is "just broken in". I sold these cars. They truly are a gem. Ask any Lexus service guy going home after work and he will wear out your eardrums extolling Lexus virtue. REALLY!
Acura, Fuji, Honda, Lexus, Scion (which, sadly, is no longer in production 😡☺️☹️), Subaru and Toyota kick all other vehicle brands’ asses nine ways to Sunday (and the other six days of the week)! 👌😀👍
@swedish asian bi pedo femboy You are so wrong. Lexus absolutely is a luxury car. They have the best interiors this side of a Rolls Royce. Of course, Lexus’s interiors hold up much better than Rolls Royce interiors.
I bought my LX 470 new in 2002. 21 years later it still drives like new . I don’t think I’ll ever sell it. No major repairs, garage kept, very well maintained , will last for ever
Drove Toyotas for many years. Had a Camry XLe that was destroyed in a hail storm so went looking for another one. I couldn’t find the Camry I was looking for so I ran across a craigslist ad for a Lexus ES 350. I went to look at the car and ended up buying it. The difference in comfort and ride and sound deadening was instantly apparent. All of that coupled with a “platform” that is definitely Toyota. Now that I’ve had a Lexus, I will never drive anything else.
CCN we have been Toyota buyers for years...I bought my wife a 22 Lexus RX450h a month ago. She was driving it while I was left seat and the road noise level was so fantastic [traded her 17 Rav4 for it] I actually whispered something to her and she turned her head and smiled - could hear it at 75mph.. As you said it is not about luxury but about the quiet ride. Looking at the door frame tag - Toyota Motor Company is the parent and this makes me smile.
I agree totally. I said in one of the Lexus owner group on FB that some of the heads at the top of the Lexus executives should be rolling because of the intro of LS500 discontinuing tbe V8 by introducing a TT-V6. That's a huge deportation of Lexus from it's original ideology of a luxury, prestine and tranquil sedan. Well, the drop in sales of the LS is a solid testimony.
I got a lexus ls430 2001 and it was 2 years with 30,000 miles. I still have the car it has 340,000 Miles with regular maintenance. Changed 3 timing belts with pulleys, waterpump, spark plugs, serpentine belt, and etc every 100,000 Miles. Regular oil changes and brake pads.
Having owned 6 Lexus vehicles, starting with both the 1995 SC400 and LS400 through the 1998 GS 400 and LS 400, and then the LS460, I purchased the RC350 F-Sport 2020. The seats on the F-Sport are very supportive and very comfortable. I drive to work and sometimes spend up to 3+ hours in traffic and never have driver fatigue (FWY fatigue - yes). I would have to disagree with you regarding the F-Sport versions of cars. Yes, larger tires and a sturdier ride, but still very very comfortable. It all adds up to personal taste, in my opinion. Reliability has been excellent in all of the vehicles.
I just got my first lexus is 250 f sport 4 months a go, and I'm soooooo in love with it! It rides so smooth and clean, and the seats just hug you like a glove, makes driving so enjoyable!
We have a 2016 NX 200t F sport. The only nit pick we have with it, is that it's very noisy inside. I have to agree with the f sport argument. If the basic model had the styling of the f sport, would buy in a heart beat!
Good to hear someone call out the sportiness madness! I always valued comfort over sportiness. My first car was a Citroen C5 on hydraulic suspension, and my current one is an E-class on airmatic.
I was a body design engineer at Jaguar and we always bench marked against Lexus LS400 and later models. We could not believe what they had achieved. My reaction was ‘ I hope they drive crap or we’re finished’.
jaguar!!! if i was to pick a car that doesnt match lexus values it would be jaguar. bad reliability, no market parts or knowledge in fixing, high price, expensive parts. customer service is trash. the car is a complete fail if not for the goverment officials and rich idiots loving a change. only to curse it later. and sadly jaguar keeps on its rubish path. it should atleast fix its warranty and aftermarket

The F-Type R without exception is the most beautifully designed ride ever built, and the reliable build quality despite widespread misperception makes this Jaguar the best driving experience on the planet. Five years later, my British racing green still turns heads everywhere, will never be mistaken for commonplace Vette/BMW/NSX and utilizes the exhaust to announce something you've never seen before is approaching. Most people have daily boring drives. Stop and go traffic, horrible roads, in town commutes. Yet, they want a 200 mph car that gives precise road feedback, that they can never use to their potential. I will stick with the comfort of my car for daily use and take out my "sporty" car only occasionally when I have nothing other to do but enjoy a bumpy stiff ride...
Agree with you for the most part. I bought a 2016 CPO RX 350 (Luxury Package) that is a fantastic SUV. Probably the most comfortable, luxurious & reliable vehicle I've ever owned. But if I were in the market for a $100K drivers car, I'd take the LC500 any day, over the German competitors.

I had a 2010 RX450, should have kept it. Now have a 2016 RX450 (NOT Fjunk) and the seats are NOT comfortable. Think it was around 2014 or 15 they changed the design of the seat. They need to bring back those seats even if it is an option.
Vilvos are fantastic. We have 3 lLexus and 2 Toyotas, but for long trips, everyone jumps inside my 2015 XC60. You can drive 10 hours straight and never get Back ache.
The Lincoln Town Car is the only one of the 4 that can hold a candle to Japanese reliability, and that's because a Town Car is a glorified Crown Vic/Grand Marquise. Cadillac is junk.

Absolutely agreed with you on Lexus marketing attempts to "sporting" nice luxury car are spoiling the brand. The same way Toyota killed Avalon by trying to appeal to younger folks.
After owning a high mileage 2015 Lexus GS 350 with 186k that I bought for $13k for my wife that doesn't drive long distances, I can feel how well built Lexus is. I've driven much newer cars, or cars with a lot less miles, my GS feels and drives better than all the previous vehicles I've been in. Even after 186k miles of good maintenance by the two previous owners, my GS 350 drives like a new car indeed. We've only had it for like two weeks, but it's already my favorite car. Now it's my turn to take care of this gem.
I’ve had 5 LS400’s., currently 2. My 1996 with 216k runs like it just came out of the factory. The smoothest ride ever!!! My 1995 has the Nakamichi stereo, yes I did add a 12 inch sub. And the sound is so AMAZING. Literally it’s a CONCERT hall.
I bought a CT200h new in 2012. It's all paid for (5 years ago) and I have 117K miles on it. It's still in great shape. I've been through oil changes, windshield wiper blades and four sets of tires. No actual repairs yet, just routine maintenance. Its a great quality car although certainly unexciting. It certainly isn't the quietest or smoothest Lexus but it's a quality car. And with gas prices today I'm glad I'm getting 40 mpg on this car. Actually in 2012 I traded in a 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T with a 340 hp Hemi. I also had joined a forum for the CT200h and found quite a number of people had traded in high hp cars for it.
I have a 1999 es 300 with 415k miles. All it needs is the OD knock sensor. I drive it around town, ice cold AC. I just bought a 2013 RX 350, 1 owner garage kept, 82k miles. It’s flawless!
I've got a 2015 ES350 (bought used) and absolutely love it. Best car I've ever owned. My mom just bought a 2022 ES350 and loves it, too. Just such a well built vehicle.
I had a 2013 ES350 for 2 years. Bought it as a second owner. BEST car I’ve ever owned. Sold it and bought a 2002 ES300 for financial reasons which is as good if not better
I've owned a couple of Toyota's, first a 2006 Corolla S, then a 2015 Camry XSE V6 (My brother owns the car now) both great cars with no problems, but wanted to step up to a Lexus for a long time. I eventually bought a used 2017 IS200t F-Sport three years ago & replaced it with a 2016 GS350 F-Sport that I bought last year, both have been problem free so far as expected. My grandma drove a 1992 SC300 for twenty years with no problems & replaced it back in 2012 with a new 2012 ES350 that she's still driving today with no problems so far.
1999 Corolla ($5K), now a 2012 SE V6 (for fun), and a 2016 XLE Hybrid for affordable comfort, the last two about $18 (20K with taxes) - 20K. Wait until 120K, I will be on my second transmission fluid change and you will be replacing parts.
We bought a new Toyota Venza limited model hybrid this past spring and love it. We call it our "Lexus" because it such a nice riding and driving car. Very comfortable on long trips too. These videos about Toyotas convinced us. Thanks!
Any issues getting used to the lack of hard buttons and knobs for the air conditioning and radio in the Venza? The big touch screen looks nice, but not sure if it is easy to use for those functions.
I'm a Toyota salesman. I definately agree on the Venza. It sticks out in terms of quality and comfort compared to the rest of the models. Hard to believe for me that the Rav4 is priced similarly and more popular when the Venza just seems like an all around better car. The Venza feels closer to being a lexus than an actual toyota.
LS. Best car in the world throughout generations. I'm in my 5th. Nowadays you can pursue perfection on european car and just perpetually waste your time. Or you can get LS and after some TLC perfection can be reached. And I mean COMPLETE perfection - not even a slight creak of interior trim. Flawless engine, transmission, brakes, suspension. Everything. I love Lexi Great channel
I have a GS460 which I absolutely love. So sad they have cancelled the GS - there isn't any other mid sized V8 sedan on the market I can think of I'd trust to own long term.
I think the car journalists resent the Toyota brand because Toyota products out perform all other brands. If you want a racing car, purchase one. Toyota does not make racing cars.
WE HAVE A 2016 LEXUS NX 200T, WHAT A VEHICLE! IT ALREADY HAS 7,800 ORIG. MILES, MAYBE THE LOWEST MILEAGE 2016 IN CA. IT IS NOT EVEN BROKEN IN YET, EXCELLENT SUV, MADE IN JAPAN, NOT 1 THING IS WRONG WITH IT, ASSEMBLED PERFECTLY. DRIVES LIKE A SPORTS CAR, HEATED AND COOLED SEATS, 41.5K OUT THE DOOR, JUST LOVE IT.
I inherited my grandmas 2003 4Runner with the 2UZ V8 after she bought a 2018 GX460 right off the lot and really, aside from much nicer materials and fancier technology in it, I honestly feel like they drive and sound the same (In a way, I know they are), which is absolutely not a bad thing at all ❤️ After 4 years of trouble-free ownership and 70k on the clock now, she says that her Lexus is the last vehicle she’ll happily ever own. As for the 4Runner, even with it pushing 289k, I will continue driving it until the wheels fall off of it and even then, I’ll never own anything else but Toyota. Truly believe there is no other vehicle on the road that comes close to their reliability, fit n’ finish and all around dedication to quality!
Thank you and Amen! I’m tired of hearing about journalists complain about Toyota / Lexus cars too! They are missing the whole point of what makes these brands special and better to actually own. I hope these manufacturers listen to you over the car journalists who miss the point of these vehicles.
Your videos are a treasure trove of true and honest information, brilliantly presented and are of the same high quality as the very cars your channel is dedicated to - Toyota (and Lexus)! I bought a certified used 2017 Camry V6 XLE 2 years ago with only 14,000 miles on odometer. My mechanic called it a 'newborn baby' probably outliving me (I'm in my 60s), considering its proved quality and reliability. Watching a number of your videos was like getting a confirmation my decision was the right one. As one of your fans, I wish you all the success, please keep doing the great job!
So true everything said in this video. I've had a 99 gs400 model for going on 15 year's now that already had 120,000 miles on it and it's been a excellent car. No major mechanical issues with it at all besides changing out the battery and its going on 300,000 miles and still running very well.
I always point people to the Lexus LS Wikipedia page, under "Industrial Significance. "Approximately 5 percent of 1989 LS 400 sales went to buyers employed by rival manufacturers, including GM, Ford, and Chrysler. When the LS 400 was disassembled for engineering analysis, Cadillac engineers concluded that the vehicle could not be built using existing GM methods. Industry publications noted the LS 400's precise panel gaps, and the subject became a common evaluation standard in road tests."
@@805fillmore It's not the American assembly worker who is incapable,. After all, most of the Japanese brand cars we buy today are assembled in the US, Canada and Mexico and meet the same specs as those assembled in Japan. In fact, I have heard that a couple Toyota models assembled in the US actually have slightly higher initial quality ratings than the equivalent model assembled in Japan. The problem is really American corporate management who is unwilling to invest in the equipment and processes needed to ensure precision.
I remember when the Lexus LS400 debuted in 1989, it cost around $36k. Mercedes bought one, took it apart down to every nut, bolt, and screw. They then complained to the FTC that Toyota was dumping its Lexus because it was too good for that pice.
you're 100% correct. I purchased a brand new ES 350- kept it for 9 years, and today, I just drove home my brand new ES350. Honestly, the best car I have ever owned. Didn't even shop around for the new one. I was amazed that after 9 years, 112k miles, that my old ES looks and drives just like the day I drove it off the lot. Even the pain and interior materials look virtually new. I have only performed scheduled maintenance on the car over these 9 years-- only had to change the breaks once! I've never owned a car that has held up better... I can only hope the new one does the same!
This makes me happy. I got a 2016 in 2022 and I said that if I have to ever get another car, it will be a new(er) es350. This is legit there best car I've ever owned!
Sounds like I wrote this. Just traded in my 2015 350ES yesterday for a 2024 350ES. New front brake pads and a new battery where the only maintenance required aside from oil changes every 9 to 12 months due to low mileage. Paint held up well in the Florida heat.
I work at a Toyota dealer. Finance manager brought his wife’s Lexus, I want to say lx570, for a brake vibration. So I drove it and didn’t feel anything. The advisor said she was adamant about it. So I check the runout and it’s like 0.010” on the front rotors and the max spec is 0.005” if I remember correctly. I should’ve felt that. Lexus vehicles ride very very very well
A few years ago I owned a 2008 IS 250 AWD. I went to car max and had a Acura TL which was nice, I drove both back to back. Night and day difference with build quality and quietness. Hands down Lexus so much nicer and I ended up getting the IS 250.
And that IS250 is considered a low tier Lexus. They don't hold their value that well, and their long term reliability is slightly questionable compared to other Lexuses, due to their drive train that isn't used on other platforms, and the AWD system. Still a great car! To me, it just emphasizes the point.
@@ShinobiXRevived the IS line is the sporty line of Lexus. It's not lower tier just not big and luxurious as gs, es and L's. I take my is 350 in the mountains driving. Without the IS 350 model I wouldn't even buy a Lexus because I'm not 45 years old+ 😂.
I've finally make enough in my profession to afford a Lexus without hurting my wallet! I was thrilled to get a 2021 Es350 with virtually no miles at a steal this Christmas. I test drove the F-sport and within 5 minutes was not impressed on the handling and those awful sport seats. I just put my 1st thousand miles on it and truly love the way it drives and the kids get a kick out of the panoramic sunroof. Cheers to many more years and miles I'll be putting on this lexus.
I had the same experience test driving an F Sport - just not what this car does best. Just got a 2022 ES 350 and intend it to be my car for years and years to come. Very pleased
Thank you AMD. My Dad bought the first Lexus in 1989, the LS400 and I had the pleasure of driving it many times. It was probably the most solid and well built car I have ever driven, I remember taking it to 115 mph one day and it felt like I was going 60 mph. Such a solid and comfortable ride. Thanks again.
The LS400 is the best car Lexas ever made for mass production So much put into the car to set the bar high. It definitely got the attention of Mercedes and BMW and hit the luxury market they (MB and BMW) had dominated.
The true mark of a finely crafted motor vehicle is when you drive it at a hughy rate of speed but you don't FEEL the USUAL HARSHNESS OF SAID SPEED, I.E. - NOISE, LOSS OF CONTROL/ MANEUVERABILITY AND EVERY POSSIBLE ROAD PERFECTION KNOWN TO MAN!!!!
Two years ago, when I was shopping for a new car, based on my research, Toyota and Honda had a good reputation for producing reliable and dependable cars. However, since 1967, I have only owned American automobiles. The Lexus ES350 that I decided to buy was my first non-American automobile. Thus far, I have been very satisfied with my purchase.
We recently purchased our first Lexus. It is an ES300h and we are absolutely loving it. Reliability and comfort were the highest priorities for us, so I knew it had to be a Toyota product and the ES was much more comfortable (and quiet) than the Avalon. Cost wise I don't think there was much difference once all the paperwork was signed. With the price of gas inflating, we are really enjoying that 44 mpg of the hybrid.
I bought my first Lexus when I was 15 years old. It was a 91Lexus Ls400. Great car. Then jumped to a 98 Ls400. And now I have a 19 ES350. I’ve never thought about going to any other brand. They’re just too well made. And I have yet to meet a person, who I’ve let drive my cars, not want one afterwards.
I'm so glad this guy mentions insulation. I literally love this about a car. I think the second most important thing to me is how it handles on quick steering, so it doesn't feel like my car's wheels are gonna lift off the ground
Yeah, the Corolla is noisy and under-powered, there is a reason you see Camry's everywhere, it is a ES300 without all the luxury / tech features but quiet and with decent acceleration unlike lower models.
Here in Jakarta, Indonesia, a lot of mall & luxurious shopping center have parking spaces that are exclusive for Lexus only. You don't get that kind of treatment when you have a Mercedes S Class.
Your the best I'm a honda guy I had 3 an accord 2013 , a 2013 crv, a 2008 honda pilot. I traded the 13 crv for a 2019 levus gx premium. 61k miles. It is by far the nicest vehicle I've ever driven. Your videos are the best.
100% agree. Picked up an '07 GS350AWD with 120k on it. Replaced rear lower control arm bushings with aftermarket poly units, it greatly increased turn in response with just a slightly harsher ride. Next came 18" wheels and OEM size tires and that destroyed the ride. Lastly replaced struts, springs and upper control arms that lowered it 1", with no difference in ride. Funny thing was optional wheel/tire size affected the ride the most. Love the car. Now if I can get the dash creak in the winter to go away. Great review, thanks.
This week I purchased a 2013 Lexus ES 350 with 33k original miles on it, loaded, 1 owner, garaged, babied, etc. Inside and outside looks brand new, runs and drives like a dream. I payed 50% less than sticker, and honestly this 9-yr-old "new" car feels better than a few new cars that I recently tested. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how long I can make it last.
@@Txcowboy80 that's a good car as well. When I bought mine they had a 2013 GS 350 there, same color (Matador Mica Red), but it had ~45k miles, same price. Besides the GS being AWD, and the ES being FWD, the only other big difference was the GS had tan interior and the ES is black inside. I opted for the ES for better gas mileage and long-term simplicity with a few less maintenance items. But either car beats domestics any day.
@@Fister_of_Muppets has a 2020 mazda cx5 32k , after 4 months which i sold and bought a 2013 se350.with 56k miles.( car was babied looks new ,needs nothing, most options) The Mazda was very good for what it was but the ES350 is in another league. @@michaelmallon6346 I have a 2013 Avalon. Beautiful car but it has a harsh ride. Like riding in a tank. My next purchase will definitely be an ES. Maybe a GS but I want a soft cushy ride. The ES is highly recommended my everyone
I will agree on the quality of Lexus cars when properly maintained which I did. I still owned my 2004 Lexus RX330 in 2004. The car was immaculate and it was displayed on their showroom here in Los Angeles. They drove the car out of the showroom. Fast forward I still own the car and now has 347,000 miles. Engine is still original and still strong. This car never gave me problems. The check engine light only appeared TWO times and I needed only to replace my catalytic converter and O2 sensor on different times in 19 years of ownership. It still drives smooth. It’s a living testament to the craftsmanship of Lexus. And it still looks nice at her age!
I own an 06 LS430 for 15 years and I will keep it for many more years This is the most reliable , confortable and low maintenance car I own, can’t say that about my Mercedes s550 Your video is right on part. 😎
Best of both worlds, Toyota reliability and Lexus comfort. I inherited my wife's older rx350, and she bought a new one. Will never buy a different brand. Thank you for sharing and doing this video.
Love your candor. I had a Toyota Sienna which was great. I just traded an Audi for a Lexus ES 250. Sure the Audi was faster. But nowhere near the fit and finish, comfort, and just the refinement in driving is excellent. The Dynamic Force I4 is a little noisier, but at cruising speed, not even noticeable, even at 80mph. For the money, it is a really good car, and just below the skin is a Toyota! This is a terrific channel. God bless you, and keep it going.
Lexus is a great value when you keep it for 150+ miles. We love our UX which is a fabulously nimble, fun ride, perfectly suited for active singles, and couples. Not fast, but has averaged 30mpg so far. 7 tears from now it will give you one last smile when you see your trade-in value for your next Lexus.
Love this video. Honest and on point. I owned a 2013 ES350 for 2 years as a second owner from ‘19 to April 21. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Not one issue in 24 months ! Sold it for financial reasons in April and bought my 2002 ES300 w 161k miles. One owner with all service done at Lexus dealership thru 110k miles including timing belt, water pump and valve cover replacement at 88k Just installed 4 new struts after the rear ones starting leaking. Now it rides like it just rolled off the showroom floor! Sits up much higher in the rear like it was new. Amazing build quality and fit and finish. Not one creak or rattle anywhere! Insulation is beefed up. I read and heard that this 4th generation is the best generation of the ES line up and I believe it ! There is a RUclips video of a 2002 ES300 w 590k highway miles still on the original engine and transmission! A well maintained older Lexus is the way to go. Let the previous owner get hit with depreciation. Definitely worth the upgrade from a Toyota. Fit and finish and quality of materials are a notch higher and yes more insulation really takes it to a higher level of refinement
Bought my wife nx200t in 2016, our first Lexus, we always had Mercedes’ , Audi and bmw. Within a year we were so impressed my mother bought the new Rx350, cousin bought IS350….. difficult to go back to German again unless I need 400hp. I did have a rav4 rental next to my wife nx200t, while sharing the same platform, I would gladly pay double again for the nx
I am a Lexus fanboi and have purchased 3 Lexus vehicles in the last 10 years. I feel there are several issues impacting on modern Lexus. 1. Reliability. Post GFC they continue to be better than the abysmal Germans but no better than the average Japanese or South Korean brands. Have had multiple mechanical problems from a failed rear main seal to moon roof problems in all the vehicles. What gives the appearance of reliability is the fantastic after sales service and provision of a replacement car for however long a repair takes. 2.Parts and labour costs. Particularly the last 3 years parts have become prohibitive in cost. $2000 Aus for an oem battery in an NX. The hidden effect is that insurance premiums for a Lexus is sky high. Greater than an equivalent German car. Be aware purchasing a used Lexus. Similarly a dealer oil change is 4x the cost than a similar toyota. 3. Warranty. Once best in industry it is now one of the worst. Mercedes and Toyota offers a better length warranty. Recently Lexus quietly reduced its excellent road side assist from 4 to 3 years. It’s likely that my next purchase will be a Toyota that have become Lexus-like without the Lexus premium.
I have a GX 470 and most things I fix my self as I'm mechanical inclined, but buy parts and take to do some work at the Toyota dealers. Is much cheaper
Easily the most reliable and comfortable car brand I have owned. They never break, the plastics and interior stay in tact and nice, excellent climate control units, and they do not break if you maintain them. The F models run extremely well too and the V-8 is absolutely rock solid and reliable.
That is what I call reliability.
Can you share current photos of the car?
What a testament to the quality of the original LS400. Great car and thank you for that comment.
I still don't get why they used Bridgestone on the RC coupe's though. I swapped mine out for Pilot Sport 4S and they are miles better.
@@DEVILTAZ35 Bridgestone is Japanese so they probably have a very tight partnership with Toyota as a local supplier.

If that is true then Lexus should market a Lexus Offroad Pick-up or SUV 4 x 4. They would make a killing !
That means they trained you guys well. Well done Lexus.
Wow that's is awesome. I bet you have some great stories 🙂
Hundred percent correct I worked for them for over a decade. They're level of service is remarkable

My 97 LX450 agrees with you!
Exactly!!!
Fun fact: Lexus painters are put through quality exams several times a year.
Yeah I think Toyota has one of the worst paints
My neighbors see me working on cars a lot. One of them, a widow, had bought a new Jeep but after only 3 or 4 years, had problems with it and was quoted $4,000 by Jeep to fix it.
Great to hear! How was your experience with porsche though? I thought they were amongst the most reliable.
Cheers!

That’s awesome! Was your Lexus still under warranty? I see it’s a 2006.
No oil leaks in the 15 years of its life..... amazing!
Sweet! I’m considering a used GS or ES for myself. You are definitely getting your moneys worth! Enjoy your ride!

@@kabysummit5801 okay, thank you.
I really loved the story but making the transition from a sport sedan to an MPV ?
How did that happen ?

You should have changed the transmission fluid at 50-60K

When the Lexus was introduced, my uncle was invited for a test drive. He was so impressed, he traded his Klasse S for the LS400.

This guy has good insights and wisdom. Lexus should listen to him. He understands their target market better than they do.

I agree totally. I said in one of the Lexus owner group on FB that some of the heads at the top of the Lexus executives should be rolling because of the intro of LS500 discontinuing tbe V8 by introducing a TT-V6.

I still drive 2007 Corolla. I bought it used in 2010. I’m happy with it.
Best Lexus education I’ve heard. Thanks AMD. And thanks for covering both the pro and con side of technology and ownership.
How did he address all my concerns in one video? This guys is a legend.
We bought a new Toyota Venza limited model hybrid this past spring and love it. We call it our "Lexus" because it such a nice riding and driving car. Very comfortable on long trips too. These videos about Toyotas convinced us. Thanks!
You can put lipstick on the 🐽 but.......😂
It's basically the Toyota Harrier/Lexus RX so no surprise there.
The only difference is it has a rav4 drivetrain compared to the V6 in the RX.

I love my Lexus, I used to be a Nissan-aholic but I’ve had NO issues and they truly last and are reliable.
Nissans are crap
I always point people to the Lexus LS Wikipedia page, under "Industrial Significance.
"Approximately 5 percent of 1989 LS 400 sales went to buyers employed by rival manufacturers, including GM, Ford, and Chrysler. When the LS 400 was disassembled for engineering analysis, Cadillac engineers concluded that the vehicle could not be built using existing GM methods. Industry publications noted the LS 400's precise panel gaps, and the subject became a common evaluation standard in road tests."
"Existing GM methods"...as in short cuts - cutting corners, dubious quality control.
@@volvo1354 I know right they realized the average American worker is incapable of this type of precision lol.

Probably the best deal on a car ever.
you're 100% correct.

So much put into the car to set the bar high.
It definitely got the attention of Mercedes and BMW and hit the luxury market they (MB and BMW) had dominated.

Reliability is always exciting compared to headaches 😃
Just purchased 2018 IS300 and it’s way different than my 2018 camry SE. The comfort, quietness and luxury feel is just awesome.
I'm so glad this guy mentions insulation. I literally love this about a car. I think the second most important thing to me is how it handles on quick steering, so it doesn't feel like my car's wheels are gonna lift off the ground
A quiet car in a 110km speed limit motorway is what I would like to have
Lexus rear drive? I was told...Please correct me thanks folks
Yeah, the Corolla is noisy and under-powered, there is a reason you see Camry's everywhere, it is a ES300 without all the luxury / tech features but quiet and with decent acceleration unlike lower models.

Sold it for financial reasons in April and bought my 2002 ES300 w 161k miles. One owner with all service done at Lexus dealership thru 110k miles including timing belt, water pump and valve cover replacement at 88k
Just installed 4 new struts after the rear ones starting leaking.

@@Mr21scottit's 2021, I'm not sure what that is suppose to mean....
Finally someone speaks the truth regarding this glorified brand is hard to take testimony from a person the lease them!! What could go wrong at 36k?
