LGBTQ+ Community Debates the Meaning of "Queer", Military Bans, & More (Part 1/2)

- People across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum came to the VICE offices in Brooklyn to hash out some of the most pressing issues they face today.
Within the LGBTQ umbrella lies a multitude of identities and ideologies. In an effort to showcase this VICE gathers a diverse group of progressive and conservative members of the LGBTQ community to discuss topics that relate to queerness and its intersection with culture, and politics.
Our goal is to foster conversations that are already happening within communities. With this format, we hope to give the viewer a rare opportunity to witness a conversation with people across the aisle that they otherwise might never find themselves in.

The amount of disrespect against Blaire in this video makes me sick. This is not a debate, this is just a video full of people with actually good points trying to get a word in and then being silenced by the "moderator" to pacify the others who are offended by the truth.
She spoke about this on her channel, how the black dude next to her was whispering disrespectful things to her while they weren't on camera, but we don't see it.

The “truth”? Which truth? Blair is sitting their denying other people’s identities while wanting to have the last word on what trans is. Also when you are talking about identifying as something within the terms of gender or identity and you use Republican which is a political party not an identity it tells you a lot about her mindset of conflating political party and identity. As a gay man, the more conservative side gave me hope. Some of the politics surrounding the LGBT + alphabet soup community are just ridiculous. I feel something this community (which I am a part of) has lost its touch on reality.
LGBTQXYZ are DOING NOTHING! All they do is whine and blather about how important their opinion is. Demanding everyone buy into their DELUSIONAL insanity. When ACTION to end REAL violent abuse in Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and the other 36 nations that imprison and execute LGBTQXYZ these cowards are NO WHERE to be seen. Put up or STFU! If you are LGBTQXYZ , When are you going to Saudi Arabia and protest?
Trans and gender nonconforming people were the frontline fighters for gay liberation, and then were cast out of the mainstream gay movement because they weren't seen as "palatable" to people in power, i.e. rich white straight Christians. They're just reclaiming what they started. It's time to stand on their side and support them the way they supported you.
It's because they approach their relationship with gender from a woke perspective instead of a progressive one. For anyone else who knows the difference between woke and progressive, you'll understand what I mean by that.
Transgenderism approached from a progressive lens could become incredibly grounded, informative, while also accepting immutable human truths instead of being religiously at odds with them.
We'll just see how this goes in the future.

I agree, that was super rude! Moderators are not supposed to mock or shut down genuine questions, in which the answers could lead to clarity and understanding. They are supposed to encourage genuine questions and have it answered honestly and respectfully for the purpose of peace and understanding among people who have very different experiences and viewpoints.
I really dislike the "moderator", she made me feel like she wanted to control what people were saying or not.

I'll be frank, the moderator should NOT, I repeat NOT have been a member of the community because there were moments where you could tell she was getting flustered, interrupting people, and overall a bit biased towards one side versus the other, and that is unprofessional. A neutral and completely detached party viewing this all from an objective standpoint would have been especially helpful.

Athena while I agree she was interrupting some people (Republicans) more than others, I feel that with each question she asked, she ensured people with different viewpoints had an equal amount of speaking time. And that said, some of the participants were interrupting each other more than other individuals.

While I see and understand what the meaning in this comment is, no matter who the moderator is, they will have a bias. We are all humans with unique opinions and values so no matter who the moderator is, there will be a bias. It can’t be helped.

You can tell who has made their sexuality their identity and who has not. You can tell who is a LGBTQIA+ indiviual and who an indiviual who happens to be in the spectrum of LGBTQIA+.

This isn’t really an educational video for straight cis people brand new to the LGBT world because the things they’re talking about are pretty in-depth intra-community issues.

I'm from a tiny town in far west Texas. We didn't tolerate any bullying and that included against the queer folk. Middle school to high-school, 2000-2007, it was not acceptable. The bullying against queer people seems to have been a problem where homeboy is from.

I identified the problem with his comment, which was that he made a vague statement about knowing "everything you will ever need to know" about someone who wishes to be referred to by a preferred pronoun. He was begging the question. My comment geared specifically toward his, and I think I made it clear why that was the case just from the first sentence.
This is one of the best discussions of LGBTQ people in RUclips. Unlike in most other videos, these people are regular people who represent most of us. With regards to Pride parades, I think they should not be fancy dress parades, instead they should showcase regular LGBTQ people, who are part of the society just like anyone else.
