I stumbled across your video through google search when I was looking for information and pricing on the Pro-106. I was shocked when I heard Hamilton programmed in! I'm from Hamilton as well hehe. A friend of mine has the PSR-500 and we usually sit in the timmies parking lot listening to east, central, and mountian. Nice to see another local scanner user. (Especially with the same scanner.) Cheers
It depends somewhat. Some areas have dual broadcasts, usually by Fire Departments, where they still put out an Analog signal from Dispatch, & that you can listen to. However, if the responding unit has Digital, you'll only hear static, random noise, or nothing (But the signal Meter will still show a strong broadcast). The PD station near my house is all Digital, as I went to their frequency, but only heard dead air, yet the signal meter was maxed out. Message me if you want to talk more...
Still best scanner. Really good receive sensitivity and battery life and stability and front end. The only thing the newer ones have over it is additional digital modes, eveeything else performs lower on them.
I just bought my Pro 106 for $320 shipped and have added the programming cable so I can input my Pro 2096 channels(basically clone) using Win500 and be up and running in minutes(be a couple of days before I get mine). I just wanted to see how the 106 looks and works,it looks like it has more features than my Pro 2096 does, one reason why I decided on the 106 than getting a Pro 96(I would have been happy with the 96 as well)
Great video, went out bought the psr 500 after your review, had to take cd-rom to Kinkos to print out manual ($25 for 138 p) not bad. OTR driver so no laptop no software to program, still learning how to program manually. Any chance for How to videos?
I just received the Pro-164 for Christmas, but alas, most of the Departments in my Region have all gone digital within the past month. I'm trying to put the Pro-164 towards the Pro-106, through a refund and price difference payment. The Pro-164 is one of the BEST Trunking Analog Scanners, peiod. Too bad my area went completely Digital though, with just about 100% of All Public Saferty Services on P-25 now. Analog has better sound quality, and better range, but the departments are "Tech Happy".
I have the PSR500 and have had problems with the loose BNC connector or the interior solder. Is it possible to use the same PF/USB cable that I got with my PSR500 and use it on the PRO-106? Also can I update the PRO-106 by just going to GRE's site and download the Firmware/software updates?
Digicircle has not had any PRO-106 scanners for quite a while because these scanners are in high demand. The PSR-500 radios are available at a good price and brand new.
I just purchased a Pro 106 in Pennsylvania yesterday and am looking at your video regarding the set up for OPP and Bellnet for EMS--in Ontario. Sould I pay the money and load same through the RR.com instead of trying to load it all myself. If I use rr.com how much do they charge?? Thanks caddyjack1
