So basically, as I suspected when I first saw a picture of it, this is a rebranded, black Pro-106. The black looks better than the gray/silver but I personally was never a fan of the way it operates vs. the Uniden menu and programming structure. I do applaud Whistler for picking up the RS brand and keeping it afloat. Competition is a good thing.
Yes, they do cost a few dollars, that's for sure. The newer ones (1088 and TRX-1) can now decode DMR radio traffic and the TRX-1 (and it's sister, the -2 base/mobile model) that I mentioned are also supposed to get an update to also receive NXDN traffic, that is in addition to the conventional FM (analog) and P25 these models already receive.
What can I do about my cell phone, making my whistler scanner squelch. It's really strange but the scanner works fine, when I have my cell phone plugged in and am charging it, but the second that my phone is 100% charged, my scanner starts squelching!. I even tried turning off phone, And put it in a different room, while it was off, and my scanner stays squelching, I'm unable to adjust it, it doesn't work unless, my phone needs to be charged, and while it's charging, the scanner quits squelching and works fine!. I don't get it. Any info would be appreciated.
I run same issue because charges very slow at 50ma I would buy a external battery charger I also bought second pack of ebl 2800mah batteries because swap one out from the charger put scanner keep it plugged at night while other batteries charger in external charger while I sleep but turn off my scanner at night while I sleep look at amazon for a charger that do both a aaa c d batteries I have rechargeable from a aaa c
Same here..I bought an external charger & just rotate the batteries. The gentleman at the Radio Shack were I purchased this unit told me that the scanner just gives the batteries a "trickle charge" and that it was best to purchase an external charger.
I have the wister 1040 hándheld police scanner i been watching your video about the bàtteris i háve the Nickel 2300 mah metal Hydride okay i not really sure What put the battiers type on
It's better to use the black battery holder and just change the battery settings to NIMH. You don't to charge the batteries in the radio, much better to use external voltage bases charger like nitecore.
Press the PGM key.2. Press the GLOB softkey.3. Use the 4-direction keypad to select the Batterysetting and set your battery type.4. Press the SAVE softkey

If it were me I would go for the WS1088 over the 1040. More features and is the newer version. Latest and greatest is, of course, the Whistler TRX-1.

I have 2800mah rechargeable batteries installed how long will take to full charge the batteries
I usually keep them on charge for 12 hours.

Nimh and soon as I unplug my scanner and my scanner beeps and blinks and I charge it overnight

It says the battery icon flashes when charging and is solid when low and beeps every 30 seconds

When you program or edit a channel, if you arrow down, it will give you the option to change the color.
My battery setting says battery level is 913 then 8.98v then it says charger dissabled what does this mean?

Press the PGM button, then the F3 GLOB. Arrow down to Light Mode and change it to normal by using the right or left arrow keys
