Thank God for you, mister. My husband wanted a scanner for Christmas and I bought one for him, but as tech savvy as he is in other areas, he was at a loss on this one. I watched this and programmed in what we needed to start and he is happy as a clam.
Great job on explaining this 👏 I now have 2 Whistler 1040s upstairs and in my cave downstairs and an outdoor antenna at 54' so my wife and I can listen to all the activities in several counties and 3 nearby states as well as CB radio all over America on our scanners . Making the most of my retirement years .
I just got one of these scanners for Christmas and I am totally new to this. I understand how to program frequencies manually but what i don't understand is, how am I supposed to know if the channel is a new conventional channel, a talkgroup, P25 auto, CTCss etc. Any suggestions on how to understand all the all the scanner jargon? Thanks
I received my 1040 handheld scanner yesterday and I was on your website because I wanted to program it manually and I just wanted to say fantastic job at the directions. I was able to get everything programmed in pretty quickly and scanning as I was quite happy... However, I scheduled in maybe 10 conventional channels, and I wanted to go back in to each one of those channels and update a few things in regards to squelch and back lighting and I was wondering if you could show me how to do that I don't wanna mess anything up.
I just purchased the Whistler 1040 scanner, I got my frequencies programmed in, I am a blind individual, how would I go about telling my scanner just to scan through the frequencies that I have programmed in?
Could you please help me! I just got a Whistler ws1040. I have my channels loaded. But I cannot hear anything. The AU is showing to the left of the channel. Is it supposed to be on FM? I don.t know what to do. The book is not helping at all. Thank you
I have this scanner (WS1040) and am of course getting my freqs from radio reference. The 4th column has the title of TONE. (FREQ, LICENSE, TYPE, TONE, ALPHA TAG, ETC). Do I need to input that? If so, where?
I live in Wichita Kansas I got the frequency from radio references but I'm not getting any to work !o!but the broadcastfiy on my laptop is picking up Wichita channels!so what am I'm doing wrong
Thank you for the kind words. No, I did not make video on that, but Press the PGM button, select the channel you want to delete, press the FUNC and CL buttons to delete
I think much of this- if not all will apply to the WS1065 I am trying to learn. Almost skipped by the section on entering the tag as I know how to enter a letter from a keypad- oops- thought I did! But this method is different! So thank you for making it at a 6th grade level. It is exactly what I needed! 5 stars
I have one of these and your video was more helpful than the one that I watched by Whistler themselves. The problem that I am having is 1) When changing the tag, say Channel 1, I change the tag name, but, when I go to channel 2 and change that tag name also changes the name I put in for channel 1? Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice please.
Greetings to You Sir. First off, an immense thank you for your support of this scanner. Invaluable service. Question: My local police have recently went from analog to digital traffic, utilizing what I'm told is a "multicast" format. There is apparently no conventional "frequency" involved as in inputing analog. I have a screenshot of what a multicast transmission looks like sans any frequency. Is this scanner capable of programming and receiving multicast broadcasts? Thank you so much. Here is kind of a techy description of the capability I'm seeking if this scanner accommodates?: Mcscanner scans a network for multicast sources, which are explicitly avoided in typical network scanners such as nmap. It sends PIM Hello and IGMP Queries then listens to network traffic and prints out the source and destination.
@@k4dps Thank you Sir. I've looked that up. The systems that I'm looking for are capabilities of another well-known handheld model, Uniden's SDS-100, which features compatibility with the following multicasting formats (among others): APCO 25 Phase I and Phase II, X2-TDMA, Motorola, EDACS, EDACS ProVoice, LTR trunked systems, NXDN, DMR, as well as conventional analog and digital channels. I've confirmed that the Uniden model would allow me to begin following my preferred frequencies again, just not sure my Whistler 1040 is either programmable, upgradable or configurable to these same formats? I specifically purchased the Whistler to compensate and upgrade from my old Baofang analog-only model as many agencies had already made the switch to digital. BUT, with so many new digital formats & technologies ever changing, I feel kind of like "chasing the dragon." And can't keep shelling out close to $1K every time technology or formats change. Cat & Mouse game, I suppose. AND, as I also understand it, most police agencies will eventually migrate to encrypted transmission, which will--for most intent & purposes--render these fancy scanners useless?
How do i listen to phoenix police and helicopters n stuff. I found all the regular freqs. My old scanner has. Im jist not listening to anything new here

The best and clearest explanation I have seen yet on how to get this taken care of!
Cant say thank you enough for your time of explaining this radio setup! I appreciate it.
This was extremely helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video!

Looks like the same scanner as the Radio Shack PRO-651 Handheld Scanner ! Thanks for the great demo !
Nice explanation. Very thorough and simplified for me(a less educated digital scanner user)!
I'm happy to hear it helped you. Thank you for watching my video.
I could not have done it without this video. THANK YOU!
Very very helpful, it was straight to the point and simple!
How about digital transmissions? This explanation was easy to understand. I am just not familiar with digital frequencies.
Thank you!! So glad I found this video, easy to follow. Saved us lots of time.
Thank you so much!!! That was very easy to do. You really did a great job explaining
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the nice comment.

Very good. If only If the manual had given several sample how-to-program options like this.
Good video. Think I'm settling on getting one.
Thank you ! I programmed one in manually and was able to figure out the PSR-500/600 software to program the rest!!!

K4DPS Hello, I just got the the whistler WS1040 , I need help in getting started here. if pos I would like to get this up and running . can you help ?
How do you reset the all channels. I was gifted the WS1040 and it has freqs from a different state.
When you first turn on the scanner and see the welcome screen, you need to press 0, then 1, then ENT to do a full factory reset and wipe the scanner.
@@k4dps Thank you. It worked.

Is there a video on how to remove channels? You are really good at explaining everything!

Do you or anyone else have a video that shows how to lockout certain channels?

Gary Lee Yes, the 1065 works the same... it’s just the mobile version of this radio.

Go into programming menu and
Arrow down where you will see the option to turn it off

Got it 👍. Thanks.
Can u add multiple channel frequencies to *01 or do u have to go to *2 and do on for each channel frequency? Will I actually get an answer?

They have a new radio system and this scanner cannot receive them.
How do i find out what my number is ? Like his 154.6000
radioreference.com click on the database tab, click on your state, click on your county, and you will find the information you are seeking
Thanks much easier than using the manual first class 👍
How you program xts 5000
You have to use Motorola’s Software and program cable.
can this radio run off of ac power all day and night like my rs pro 96 i want a new scanner like that i love man and scan buttons
Yes with the supplied adapter. I would not leave rechargeable batteries plugged in for long periods of time though.
Can you hear analog on the 1040
Markeith Limon Yes, you can.
Can I heard phase 2 and analog on this radio?
Anthony Romero Phase 1 only, and yes you can hear analog.
can anyone tell me what a G means on WS1040 scanner
Global squelch. It just means there is no attenuation on the receiver.
What does conventional mean ?
From what I get it's your regular scan channels.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trunked_radio_system www.taitradioacademy.com/topic/how-does-trunking-work-1/
It has similar looks to my analog scanner which is a Grecom PSR-310
All they did to make the 310 is take out the chips/ICs that do Digital and you have a 310.
Great help. Thanks
Excellent.
thank you thank you thank you...
You are welcome, welcome, welcome! Glad I could help.
Yeah the software is no longer working. Thanks for this.
