I just spent 2 hours going through the user manuals trying to program this thing. One time through on your video and I was all set. Thank you so much!!
On the pro-106 you have what 20 different groups of channels. Lets say on group 10 thier is just a handfull of channels you want to listen too. Is there a way to just listen to them only so you don't miss say like just the local PD / FD. Is there a way to program just your favorite ones on just one of the banks. A lot of times you hear call go out and you want to listen toit but it continues svanning and by the time you get back to it its over. THANKS FOR THE HELP
Thanks for a clear explanation. Tried on the pro-197 (base model). Scans without any signal though. I see all channels have been saved, but nothing heard. Guess it's back to drawing board for me.
Could you post the web addy where you got the print out so i can find the one for my location. Also my scanner is a RADIO SHACK version will it work the same way? My store said you have to send it off to add program for a charge.
@4:20 you talk about frequencies, what if the listing on radio referance does not list the control for a system and all you have the FCC urls listing. Then how do you program the system in?
Under Talk groups. After I choose 800/900mhz then choose tag then input frequencies then scroll down to EXPERT BELOW to Fleet map: to custom or type II. If you have palmetto 800 do you have to change it to custom or type II?
you are a very good explainer,it worked BUT i can see them transmitting or whatever ya call it but i cannot hear any voices, the audio does indeed work so it is not that, have you any idea what it might be, thanx bunches
I'm lost, "type in frequency" you put in your weather freq. why, can it be any freq.? Squelch mode, how do you know? Thanks for the lesson, helped out a newbie, where can I get a better manual/book on the Pro-651. Thanks again, I will definitely keep watching!
My opions for this is motorla type II SmartZone which one do I pick? I really need help on this. My department uses motorola XTS 2500 and I wanted to put one of these in my car and in my regalr patrol car I have the actual radio. Can you please help me?
Great Video! If I wanted to just add a few frequencies (that are not trunked) into a group to scan, would I just add each frequency as a CONV, all under the same scan list?
Question for you...can you add more than one TGRP number? In the video you said enter all the frequencies, then after that enter THE talkgroup number you want to listen to. I'm asking, after you enter all of the frequencies, can you add three or four talkgroup numbers to listen to three or four channels on that system or is it ONE GROUP or WILDCARD (ALL) GROUPS only??? Or, to listen to more talk groups would I have to enter all the frequenices over again then add the different talkgroup number? See what I'm asking?
You have a great video. I have some questions for you on this scanner. When you have the freq's programmed into the scanner from radioreference for your county (mine is Bay City MI), how can I get the scanner to pick up just the DEC numbers? I can use the wildcard, but it picks up everything from law to EMS. And the law uses all of the freq's listed. On your video you show yourself putting in just one ID (DEC), can we program the 106 to pick up just the DEC's on the freq's?.
Dude, your video SAVED MY LIFE!!! You have NO IDEA how confused and lost I'd be if it wasn't for this video. Please give yourself a pat on the back for saving someone's week, hahaha.
great video! showed me how to monitor cretin talk groups with a trunktracker scanner :) i have an analog scanner right now and i hear everybody talking ! but you showed me how to use the decimal and only hear ems, or whoever i want thank you soooo much!
How would I program in a Motorola Type II SmartZone? would that be the Mot 800/900 or how does that work? I am new to the scanner world so I don't know how to go about doing that :)
how do you make the light blink on certain channels on the 106 scanner? I have my 106 programmed, I just don't know how the make my different color lights blink on certain channels.
i am trying to program Thomas County Ga On my PRO-106 Digital Trunking Scanner I cant seem to get it to work can you advise me what I need to do to get it to work in a trunk talk group Thanks
Does the Uniden BCD396XT that you have offer programmable "limit search"? That's one thing that I want. I have an 80 tabletop Realistic unit that has limit search (but it doesn't pick up digital). I love limit search because I can program in only 2 frequencies and scan through as many as 150 active frequencies (depending on the frequency range). I want digital so that I can hear police and stuff. I also want "limit search". Can Uniden do that?
What if the system type is something other than the ones that are offered on the scanner? The system here is a Motorola SmartZone, and that isn't offered as a choice on the sysytem types on the scanner.
How do I add multiple talkgroups in a single bank? I am presuming that I can do this with out having to enter all 12 channels for the tower sites again?
awsume job im learning p25 im an avide listner been a scanner nut since 1992 just gotta get the scanner ill be back watchen and learning thanks again reaily big help :)
your video makes it easy to program but I can't see my frequencies scan like they used to. and it does not stop on any frequencies? Did I do something wrong you think?
I currently have a PSR 500 and I have a Pro106 coming in a few days. I know they're the same scanner, under different names. I have a few 380 mhz DoD systems I want to try to monitor. Do I just look at what I have in my PSR 500 to guide me to how to program the Pro106 correctly?
Where can I go to find out ALL models of ANY brand that offer "limit search". I used to have a 1000 channel ICOM that had it, but it has since broken and I still own an 80 channel Realistic tabletop that has it but it doesn't pick up digital signals. I want to be able to pick up all the digital police frequencies within 20-50 miles of Burlington NJ (a nearby town) while I'm trying to get to sleep at night and while I'm out getting from place to place on public transportation...
I have a question in my city there are 10 Frequency that all are Trunking radio system and there are 21 Talkgroups any where from police fire an so on if I put the Frq in that are for my city how many of those talk groups on that 1 bank with those 10 frq can I put in are do I have to put in all those frq for each bank there are about talkgroups I want to listion too thanks
Mister twister. Can you possibly help me program all of dauphin and lebanon county. I got the p 25 done. But cant figure out how to get fire ops on it.
Mr. Twister, I have a PRO 106. I have tried by watching this (and other videos) to program South Dakota’s statewide system. With no luck. Is it possible to contact you for help ?
my system type is a Motorola Type II Smartnet. I am new at this i have the pro 106 and i want to listen to my local PD. Im just very confused any help would be greatly appreciated. Im trying for Fremont california PD.
...but I also want to hear anything else that I can pick up within that mileage range (police, fire, taxis, school buses, civilian and military aircraft, ham repeaters, any railroad, baby monitors, etc. etc. etc). I basically want to hear ALL voice comms above 25MHZ continuously all the way up to 2.3 GHZ if that's available (but I want "limit search" just as much as digital police and other digital systems). What can any of you recommend?
If you want Continious coverage then get a Communications Receiver NOT a Scanner, Great Communications Receivers can be bought from ICOM, AOR and ALINCO.
then you are OUT of Luck. P25 is a Digital Only system. you need at Least a 1st Generation Digital Trunking scanner. Whistler are the Best bang for your buck. I got my Pro-688 from Radio Shack before they closed. best of all the Newer Digital trunking scanners can be programed by PC using the Radio Reference database. makes programing Easy and fast.
And, I noticed when it's in the wildcard mode,if you lock out the DEC you don't want, it locks out anything that's broadcast on the freq. Thanks for the help. Ski.
@xDabighurtx to delete an object just press FUNC and then the CL button. Or reset the entire scanner to factory. Turn unit on, when you see welcome message, press 0. Then press 2 then ENT button.
YES, but it wont be able to Hear any Digital Trunking or be able to Follow conversations when the Trunking system switches frequencies. I can do this with my ICOM but its a pain and When your scanner hits a Control frequency your Eardrums burst from the Noise. a Proper trunking scanner Mutes the noise.
Im having trouble programing my Pro-106 via PC with the software. Even though the program sends out the data, its like my scanner is ignoring it. It wont even show up.
Just bought a radio shack pro 106, I looked up the system type my county has, but it is not a p25 instead it is iDEN Standard. Will the same method work to program the scanner?
I'm new and probably dumb, But ive looked on the internet on programming my radio shack pro 107. For some reason I thought this thing works right out of the box. Do I need to add more stuff to listen? I can only pick up taxi cabs, CB, and some Transportation agencies. I want to hear Fire and Police.
Is there anyone in the Glendale / Phoenix area that can help me with my PRO-651 programming please ? I've watched this video ALL DAY and still having issues programming it. Thanks
Nice video but my county does not have more then one code for police I live in Washington NC can you do a video for this it is a project 25 system but I see no talk groups here in radio reference list

Yes, try the Uniden Home Patrol 1 or 2 All you do is enter your zip code, and off you go. Neat stuff!
How would u know what TGRP FITS best for the freq you typed in under "System Frequencies"
Question for you...can you add more than one TGRP number? In the video you said enter all the frequencies, then after that enter THE talkgroup number you want to listen to. Once you finish programming, how do you scan the frequencies in that talkgroup??
That was the first thing I thought of on this video...where did you get that printout of your counties information???

This might be a dumb question but, is there a scanner that you just turn on and hit scan without programming to hear police, fire, ems ect?
no, Radio Shack did make the best and Easyest scanners to Program , and then Whistler too them over. Still the Best scanner around.
I have a G where the T should be and can't pick up anything?
@xDabighurtx to delete an object just press FUNC and then the CL button. Or reset the entire scanner to factory. Turn unit on, when you see welcome message, press 0. Then press 2 then ENT button.

Will this scanner receive system type NXDN NEXEDGE 4800 or is it too old?
No it's too old
Where do you get the frequency print out you use on the video?
Radio Reference com
Awesome! Thanks! And thanks for some good videos! I subscribed because I learned something! :)
Oh man awesome video, thanks for posting this

Francisco - IDEN is LTR technology, so you would select LTR instead of P25.
Digital frequency scanners hand held
also do I have to program in the frequencies in red first or does it matter?
Izak Magaña I'm guessing go left to right on the chart. I read somewhere about just entering the red and blue, and ignore black.
Do you know how to clear an error message
Thanks for the great video. Very informative.
Why is your UP arrow button upside down?
What do I do if it says Nothing enabled?
