For those of you new to HAM radio, realize that over the years we collect quite a collection of radios and other gear. Some sell their extra stuff off while others keep it tied into their system for a back up or merely nostalgic reasons. This is truly a operators radio cave where one (myself included) could disappear for hours on end. 73's my friend and many thanks for sharing your station with us..

Wonderfully designed shack. Always great to see dedicated SWLs. An important part of the hobby. After all, us hams still spend the majority of our time not transmitting. 73

Holy moly. Not only is that an absolute fortune in equipment, but I have never seen everything arranged so neatly before. It is obvious the shelves, cabinets, and desk were literally built around the equipment. I am a ham (N7XLR) and admit I do a lot more listening than talking. So far I am only a technician (got that back in 1988) the 13 wpm code test stopped me from upgrading to general, but now there is no reason not to. I plan to very soon. There really isn't much of interest around here on VHF and UHF. My main interest in amateur radio is in the equipment and theory itself, and that is what I like to talk about. I just added a Yaesu FT-DX560 to my collection. It needed a little work but now works fine. It is a vintage early '70s tube radio. Most of the modern digital stuff just leaves me cold.

You have to experience direct point to point radio communication via the ionosphere to really appreciate it. It's like driving a sportscar instead of flying along in a jetliner with everyone else and you can use voice, digital (computers), morse code and even send pictures and satellite data via the radio wave direct all over the world. Within FCC regulations you can say anything you wish with thousands of other radio operators with vintage (vacuum tube) or state of the art equipment. It's great

I can't help but notice how organized everything is. I guess you must have open and free access to the back of the setup so you can run all the cables... and i'm guess all the cables there are all organized too! I can't imagine the time it would have taken to plan and build.
My vision of the perfect shack is minimalist but I take my hat off to you for such a well arranged setup!

No licensing required - No interference issues from the neighbors - Antenna tuning not a big issue (SWR, etc).
I know a lot of people who own LOADS of very expensive gear that are receive-only stations. Some people just like to monitor but don't want to deal with TX issues some folks can experience, or they're just not interested in talking to others.
I used to have a full-range transceiver station but recently sold all my transceivers in favor of receivers only, due to failing health though.

You got that right, mate. Many of us are only trying to put food on the table so we can just afford a radio or two and putting insurance on them just isn't within our means. But if I had a whole roomful of things like this bloke I sure wouldn't make a video about it. But you are right about insurance being "optional" because many of us are just trying to do frivolous things with our money like provide rent, food, heat, petrol, etc.

So, you never retire most of your gear. You just add to the pile until the newer stuff becomes mired with the rest of the old and irrelevant gear you don’t use anymore.
You’ll get more efficiency if you weed out the stuff that needs boxing up and selling off on eBay.
Then your wall of shame can resemble a wall of wood, interspersed with radios you actually use on a daily basis.
    Geez, wadamess!
