    Hello, I´ve followed this video and so far it is working great and it checks the bed levels every time a print is about to start.
    I got a question anyway, if I remove the bed for cleaning for example and move by mistake one knob, will it fix the calibration for the next print or will I have to calibrate the bed again and memorize the bed levels?

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад +1

      I could not get the firmware to automatically level the bed before each print. So you will need to do a bed leveling and probably a Z offset check if you adjust the knobs.

    I'm running into a problem where even though I have found the right firmware for my 4.2.2 board, and I am able to see the options for bed leveling within my printer screen after turning it on, whenever I plug in the CR Touch into my main board, the next time I turn the printer on it just sits there on a blue screen as if I don't have any firmware loaded onto it. I have also unplugged the Z-stop switch. Any insight as to what might be the problem for my case?

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад

      It still sounds like a firmware issue. There are a couple of versions for a 4.2.2 board but for me, there was only one that worked. It was buried in an obscure folder on Creality's site. I show how to find it in the video.

    Great video, wish I had seen it before I tried to install by myself. I was not able to move z-axis to a negative position so I estimated a negative value for probe z offset and tried bed leveling to see how stuff works. Then printer starts shaking and halted, and after restarting I cannot move any axis. Does this mean I broke the motor by setting z offset too low? Is there any way to fix it?

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад

      The Z-offset is the most difficult part of the process. Their manual and instructions don't really explain how this works.
      If the printer is shaking, this is probably a result of the nozzle being pinned down to the bed. The stepper motor could be trying to go lower and cannot, thereby causing a banging noise. Goto to the settings and select "disable steppers" Now manually screw the z-axis higher by simply turning the screw by hand so that the CR touch switch is higher than the bed. Hopefully, this will allow you to start again.
      Next verify that the stepper works. The setting is "Move Axis" then select Z and try a small move. If nothing, then you might have a problem with the stepper and/or the motherboard.

      Well thanks for subscribing, I appreciate it.
      I'm not sure why this is happening to you. I did some research and it looks like you can manually set the boundary limits. Here is an article on the procedure. 3dprinting.stackexchange.com/questions/7395/how-to-set-the-boundaries-for-bltouch-probing
      If you can work out the gcode to manually do this, then you can add the gcode as a default in your slicer. I do this frequently with the Prusa slicer so that it always inserts the code.

      ok the first thing is to make sure that the motherboard can recognize that the CR touch is the new z stop. You can raise the print head and just use your finger. See this ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxKDK0Hwopf1LkkbFxxieAcSiLMa48HLcw
      If it's recognizing it but then prints too far away, you need to store the z offset in the settings.

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад +1

      First check to make sure the limit switches are working. For the x you can manually click it as the nozzle is moving to home. It should stop when you press the switch. For the z axis, it sounds like the CR touch is not hooked up right. You have to disconnect the old Z axis limit switch and then the CR touch will act as the new switch. Check the video where i show how to check the z axis switch is working. this is likely why it's crashing into the bed.

      There are several reasons for a blue screen. It's hard to say what's wrong but first try to re-flash the firmware. If that won't work, check for a bad connection at the motherboard. Since it did work and now it won't, it seems likely that you might have a connection issue.

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад

      If you have installed the hardware, stored the z-offset, and leveled the bed and it still does not work, you may need to look at other things. For example, I've had issues even with the CR touch installed and it was due to the bed being too cold. It worked fine last fall but then got worse as the weather got colder. I turned up the bed and filament temperature and even put a box around the printer.
      Getting a successful print means that all variables have to be as good as you can get them. You need to look at bed temperature, tip temperature, a dry filament (one that has not absorbed a great deal of moisture), and also the temperature of the room. If any item is too far out of range, the print will fail.

      Yes it sounds like a firmware issue. There are several version for the 4.2.2 board so you have to dig around and try again.
      You can program in the bed leveling routine with your slicer g28; g29; on separate lines.

      If you hear a clicking sound when the filament is trying to extrude, this means that you have a clog in the line. The clicking sound is the stepper motor turning and then snapping back because it cannot move forward. Start at the nozzle and work your way backward to the extruder.

      I have not had that problem but it might mean that you are too far from the bed. Be sure to let it come down on it's own so that it can get close to the correct height. If you notice in my video, I put my finger on the switch as a test, but then went back and let it lower itself all the way to the bed.

      I now know why this can occur. This happened to me today. I'll post a video to explain. in the meantime, the reason is that the printer needs to be moved to Z 0 where it thinks 0 is at. Once you are there, you probe from that and it should work. If you probe from home which is 10 mm higher, it won't work.

      Have you added the gcode to do the bed leveling? You need to add G28; on one line then G29; on the next line. This should be done near the top so that it measures the bed before you print. I add mine permanently with custom Gcode in my slicer.

    Why do you set the z offset exactly one random piece of paper too high? You are telling the printer “that is your zero height” but you have set it at zero plus a random bit of paper…….why?

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад

      I do one piece of paper for the actual probe. See this clip ruclips.net/user/clipUgkx9Zt5NWmynSjB49YG-OsmefEXWfeBdWLx
      For the manual bed leveling using the knobs, I have found through experimentation that one piece of paper leveling is not necessary. For my printer and bed, it is so tight that if I make one mistake, it will drag on the bed and ruin the nozzle. The CR touch is capable of going down an extra piece of paper. This is done by probing the z offset which tells the firmware how far down to go. It is here (at probing the z offset) where I use one piece of paper.

    • @chrisb3989
      @chrisb3989 Год назад

      @@MyEngineeringProjects if the firmware needs to know how far the nozzle is from the bed when the sensor homes why tell it a figure that’s not correct? Sorry but I still can’t see the point of that. The firmware sets how far the nozzle is from the bed when it prints except it can’t do that if you give it an incorrect z offset by adding an unknown height of a random piece of paper…..take a look around any precision engineering shop and you won’t see any engineers using bits of paper for anything else but writing on.

    • @MyEngineeringProjects
      @MyEngineeringProjects  Год назад

      I'm referring to the total distance using the knobs for rough leveling, not the z offset. The z offset is probed with one piece of paper not two. The firmware knows exactly where the bed is since I probed it with just one piece of paper.

    • @chrisb3989
      @chrisb3989 Год назад

      @@MyEngineeringProjects it doesn’t know where the bed is…it is being told a figure that is a random piece of paper above the bed. When you set the z offset what is the distance you are setting…..the firmware thinks it’s the distance the nozzle is above the bed when the probe is zeroed….is that what you are telling it? Or are you adding a random bit more for some reason? I’m not trying to blame you for anything this is a belief that for some reason has become firmly entrenched in the 3d printing community……do we add a random bit to the e steps? Or anything else? Just the z offset apparently. The height the firmware is going to print above the bed for the first layer is set in the firmware but for some reason many people think it’s best to just add a random bit to that by entering an incorrect z offset value.
