  • In this video I show you how to install a CR Touch Auto Bed Level Kit on a Creality Ender 3v2 3D printer. With this Ender 3v2 upgrade you will no longer need to manually level the bed before each 3D print. The automatic bed leveling sensor will adjust the Z offset during a print to adjust for any variations in bed height. Check out the links below for more information!

      @The 3D Print Zone it seems many have this same issue of having the Z stopping at 0, and having to use the Z offset to get it to the right height. After trying to save it in control settings, it does nothing and goes back to being about 11mm up. After it rehome, the Z in the "Move" is back at 10, and Z offset is at the same number, but when the Z in "move" is back to 0 the offset is basically at 0, though it says (for me) -1.22. How is it supposed to save? The instructions that says to set everything then "Storage Configuration". Though it doesn't change anything. Any help?
      - After saving it and auto leveling, it goes back to the middle LOWER than it was basically touching the bed.

    For anyone struggling @16:40 when Move Z will not go below zero... After Auto homing, use the Z-Offest instead to adjust the nozzle close to your bed. After setting that, auto home again and now try going to Move -> Move Z. Going down to 0 should now be nice and close to the bed. Found this burried in the comments and it worked for me! Looks like they have updated the firmware or something and made this change. Hope this helps! (and give a like so people notice this comment if it helped :D)

    • @RetroRogersLab

      I'm not following this. First of all OP starts with Z-Offset at 0.00 after Auto home. OP moves the Z axis down until it touches the paper and notes the setting and trams the bed. OP sets the Z-Offset to the Z axis setting noted earlier and heads off to update slicer and test print.
      The first issue is maybe a newer version of firmware I downloaded has different limits. It would explain why some of us can't move the Z axis into negative values. @Mowtown suggest dialing in some Z-Offset first but wouldn't you need to add the initial Z-Offset and the Z axis setting you noted earlier. In my case this would exceed 5. Doing the Z-Offset first might make sense if Auto home keeps the Z-Offset adjustment but zeroes the Z-Offset setting, somehow.

    Awesome video, it truly helped! Thank you!!!
    Something else I added to the gcode right after the G29 command was an M0 command to pause the print. I noticed with my printer (and also in the video) that while the printer is auto leveling, the hot end cools down. When it tries to heat back up, however, the printer continues attempting to print, and the extruder doesn't move until the target temperature is met again. I added the M0 command to pause the print right after it gets done auto leveling the bed. This will allow the hot end to heat up again. To continue the print, just press the knob on the control panel (preferably once the target temperature has been reached again). Hope this helps!

    • @TheViperMan
      @TheViperMan 2 года назад

      In my gcode the pre-heating starts after the leveling. Not before. So it's cold while doing the autoleveling

    • @Arbiter1223
      @Arbiter1223 2 года назад

      @@TheViperMan That also works! I've actually since removed the G29 command from my starting gcode as I kept running into inconsistent leveling issues with the sensor auto leveling before every print. Now I just auto level occasionally, and it seems to keep the perfect bed level more consistently for me now.

    FINALY got it to work. Yesterday I could not get the first layer to stick for anything.
    Today I changed my "calibration/leveling" technique, set temperature to 210 C for first heating, cleaned the bed with alcohol (which I had tried last night with no improvement) and it worked.
    Only one hitch: I set the start gcode to include g29. At first part of the print job, it heats up the bed and extruder, sets home points, then when it proceeds with the autolevel process, it turns off the extruder heater! By the time it finishes the leveling process, it is down to 160C. It isn't quite 200C when it does the pre-extrusion (before the skirt) and the start of the skirt it doesn't all stick. It is hot enough when it starts the actual print but some of the early stage goops and strings get carried into the base of the object.
    I have a feeling that leaving the filament out overnight had a factor. Perhaps it was too dry out of the vacuum seal?
    Why does it start cooling down when it is executing g29
    Since supposedly it saves the auto-level settings, I'm thinking to not put the auto-level code in the print gcode, but rather manually execute level before a print, then run the print.
    My z-offset is -1.0. I determined it after I got the bed manually leveled at the 4 corners, executed auto-home, then leaving the extruder right where it is, found the Z position that fit the thickness of paper as many do.
    I did find there's about a 0.2 hysteresis going up and down. IOW if I start at -1.0 and start going down, paper would slide pretty loosely at -1.2 and get stuck at -1.3. When I backed off, paper wouldn't get free until -1.1.
    I found that the back of the bed's heater lead wires and tape that held it down (up?) would bind against the y motor.
    So I used the back of the bed as my leveling starting point, having it high enough for the wire/tape to pretty much clear the motor.
    Instead of using the method of turning off stepper motors to move the bed/head, I instead used the move function to position the head where I needed it to get the knobs set.
    Once I did everything the bed test print was, except for the pre-print due to the nozzle not getting to temp soon enough, perfect!

      So its just depends on the model?, it can't be that for some it works without adding anything to the .bin file and some have to add extra characters, most likely an older board model?, unless it has something to do with firmware type.

    To anyone who doesn't want to fly through zipties, you can squeeze the ratchet mechanism from the sides, or diagonally, using some pliers to pretty reliably make it let go and slide out, so you can re-use it.

    best way to feed the cable is run some filament through the other end till you come out the other side, then tape the cable to the filament and pull it back through. if you have issues with the filiment poking through the sleeve then make a ball on the head of the filament using tape and try again till it works.

    Before you tilt the printer to the side, take a look at 06:50 and remove the screw that this dude didn't know he had to remove. Also, when you open the mainboard be sure to write down its version number, you will need it later in the video when you have to upgrade the firmware, otherwise you will have to turn the printer to the side again, open up the mainboard again and see the version number, because in the video it's not mentioned that you need to take note of it, it only says that you need it when it shows how to make the firmware, and at that point you have most likely already closed the mainboard. You should find the version number under the Creality logo, somewhere in the center of the mainboard.

      After Auto homing, use the Z-Offest instead to adjust nozzle close to your bed. After setting that, auto home again and under Move -> Move Z going down to 0 should now be nice and close to the bed. Found this burried in the comments and it worked for me! Looks like they have updated the firmware or something and made this change. Hope this helps!

    Many thanks for this, it worked first time for me. Really appreciate the time you put in to making and sharing this; the quality is above par.
    Some installation notes that may help others.
    - I left the Z end stop in place but disconnected in case I needed to reconnect. It doesn't appear to have any negative impact.
    - As far as the firmware update; after reading through the comments I just added the file to the root of the original SD card provided by Creality and renamed as firmware.bin. The printer picked it up fine even though all the original folders were still left on the card.
    Subscribed and I will be looking in to more of your upgrade recommendations. Cheers!

    FINALLY!!! I have watched like 10 videos of how to install the CR Touch and load the software and STILL had questions. This video was great.
    I do have a question, though: What is the purpose of the Z offset? Does that serve as the starting point for the print head to move to before the CR touch does its thing?

    • @the3dprintzone
      @the3dprintzone  Год назад +1

      Glad the video was helpful to you! I tried to make the tutorial as comprehensive as possible! The Z offset is essentially setting your Z height to get you in the ballpark for vertical positioning. The CR Touch takes care of the rest to adjust for any locations on the bed that are out of level. Hope that helps! Like and subscribe and happy printing!

    there have been a few changes since this upload, you can no longer manually move the z axis lower than 0, instead you have to set it to zero and change the z offset from there. Also the download page has been changed and the latest board firmware for the 4.2.2 ender 3 v2 includes the bl touch and cl touch update

    I wished you would tell ppl that its optional to remove the Z cable from the motherboard. Doing so risks damage to the motherboard connectors especially with the hot glue. Now my printer wouldn’t work - homing failure, and I suspect it is due to faulty connection at the motherboard.
