Upgrading my ender 3 with CR touch auto leveling kit. I'm tired of manually leveling the bed after every few prints or when I move things, this suppose to reduce or completely remove the need for that.
I'm not being paid for this.

Thank you for the fantastic step-by-step video! One note: G-code is read line-by-line, so G29 needs to be on a separate line after the G28; Home command. Cheers!
Thank you for the correction, really appreciate it. Let me pin this comment as it might help someone. So far I'm not having any problems on my printer but I think you are correct. Thank you for watching :)
Thank you so much I was having so much trouble trying to figure how why it wasn’t working and this fixed it
Glad it worked and thanks for watching
Thanks for the tip
It does directly say in the manual to change "G28" to "G28G29," so the video is correct to the Instructions provided by creality. So the video is accurate to them at least
Wonderful video, mine shows up tomorrow and I'll definitely be rewatching this when it's time to install! Thanks a bunch yo!
Thank you for watching. Also happy to help in case you get stuck at any point. Do not hesitate to ask. I hope it goes smooth for you.
By the way, there is a pinned comment about the code modification. I recommend you read it. Some one corrected a small miss in my video so it might save you some time by reading that pinned comment on that video.
@@techs.passion already noted! Thank you!
Having cr, bl or other touch do not mean you wont have to level the bed manually. You still have to do that in order to get proper prints. It only compensates small imperfections. It is crucial to make a good manual adjustment.
Too bad many people think otherwise
100% you still need to level the bed but less often. The rubber pads are more stable than the springs so that is one and it does account for minor difference in the corners if it happen to be. Another nice thing is if you need to change the bed from a slim bed to a thicker bed you do not have to relevel which is nice. All that said you are correct. Thank you for watching and the detailed comment.
This is the best Tutorial I ever watched on this topic. Thank You 🙏
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for your kind words and for watching :)
@@techs.passion Just one Question, I can't find after it my files on my mini SD card so I don't know how to print them out, can you help me with this?
Did you format the micro SD while using it to update the firmware?
@@techs.passion Hey, yes everything works just fine I just forgot to delete the wuestion yesterday, sorry for that. But I have an other Problem with which I was hoping you could help me out. Every time I'm trying to print sometimes out the filament won't stick to the bed, I levelled the Z offset even while it was printing but still the filament won't stick. I was wondering if you had any advice for this problem?
Hi there, sorry for the late response. I would say clean the bed, make sure it leveled correctly and make sure the temperature is correct for the bed and the filament.

Great video thank you. I really liked the motherboard fan cover as well!
Glad you like it. Yes, the fan cover really useful. You can print one, I got it from Thingiverse www.thingiverse.com/thing:3155772 you can search for fan cover and see many of them. Thank you for watching :)
Congratulations for the video, could you put the link of the 3d model, for the fan cover? Thank you
Thank you so much, for sure, here is the link www.thingiverse.com/thing:3155772
I got a Creality BL Touch upgrade pack, this included the BL Touch and an ISP Programmer to flash the firmware, the kit came with a pin 27 board, the software for the ISP would not work, eventualy I realised it had Chinese Characters in the .EXE so I deleted these and then it would load, I fitted the pin 27 and the BL Touch and then realised the lid to the electronics case would no longer close with out shorting out the pin 27 so I had to take off the fan from the lid and lay it over the drivers to cool them while I printed a new electronics lid riser that I had designed in Fusion 360, I was forced to learn the parts of Fusion 360 I needed as Tinkercad was not powerful enough to design this riser lid, so eventualy I had the lid closed and the BL Touch working, but I also had to level the gantry every five or so prints as it dropped on the right hand side and the BL Touch would not compensate for such a large difference, so then it was dual leadscrews to be fitted and I then had to design a sync belt system to keep the leqadscrews in sync, it seemed Creality only ever made half an upgrade, it was at this point that I went from a Creality fan boy to a Creality Hater Boy, I had bought the Ender 2 and CR-10 and two Ender 3 machines, by the way the BL Touch firmware was faulty and I had to learn to configure Marlin firmware and compile it to get the ABL working correctly and I did a much better job on my first try than Creality had done over all the machines they had released, this made me realise Creality was just not interested in getting the best from the machine or even a correctly working basic firmware
Wow that sounds like so much trouble for that upgrade, I do not blame you, I still like Creality because that is the one I'm most familiar with but open to explore if the opportunity comes. Lucky for me, the CR touch was simple enough and really easy to install and setup. Right now my Ender 3 is very well upgraded. I also bought an Ender 3 Max, remember when I mentioned that I was keeping an eye on it, the other day I got it for some discount and will make a video about that soon.
I do use Tinkercad most of the time since my Fusion 360 subscription expired and I do not want to pay for it.
Seems like you have so many printers, which one is your favorite?
Thank you for the comment and all the details, I will pin it on this video since it is really helpful and might help others. I really appreciate the details and thanks for stopping by.
@@techs.passion my favourite of the Creality printers is the original Ender 2, that printer is the most reliable one I have and its also the least expensive, it just works, I can press print and just walk away from it knowing full well it will just print and complete its part, the only upgrade it has are some silcone spacers and a PEI bed, it is slow but the layer stacking is perfect, Creality hit a home run with this machine but chose to stop making it when the CR-10 and Ender 3 took off
I followed the the steps all the way through everything was plugged in and the working minus the firmware installation for some reason its still loading the version 1.0.8 and not installing the latest firmware (i have a v4.2.2 board) i even attempted v4.2.7 assuming i had made a mistake on which board i had and still nothing i reformated my sd card and met all with dead ends
Sorry to hear that, I assume you got the CR touch specific firmware and unplugged the Z axis. Are you getting an error or what state are you at?
@@techs.passion i dont know if it was the cr touch specific (i was following your steps since we had/have the same printers) but when i replugged the power wire and turned the printer on with the firmware .bin on the tf card it would just start as if nothing changed... as if the .bin wasnt being executed i had seen on creality's website that i needed to flash my firmware but i had seen many tutorials that didnt say to flash
You are going in the right direction but you need the CR touch version of the firmware. I do mention that in the video and also I have a video on firmware. I think you just need the correct copy of the firmware. Go to the website and get the CR touch version of the firmware
@@techs.passioni just rewatched the video again this was my 3rd time watching and i just realized i searched for the printer on the side bar instead of under cr touch thank you brother i had been losing my mind for hours trying to figure out what i did wrong i hope you have an amazing day 🙏🙏
Glad you got it figured out, very happt to help and thank you for watching. You too, have a good day
Attention if you change the limit sensors must have all the same part number example 2134.
I spent months to recognize it.
If that sensors are different then the printer will become crazy and you will not understand from were the issue is.If they have different number the printer can't do autohome the cr touch can't work even if you pass the software with out the cr touch again will not work.
I become crazy many months know and today i found the solution 🇨🇾👍🏻
Hey buddy, so you mean the end zero switches all need to be the same and basically if you change one you need to change all 3 or the 2 in the case if you have CR touch? Good to know, I never needed to change them so far but did I understood this correctly?
@@techs.passion no matter if you have cr touch or not.
The switches must have same part number or the specific part number i think.
I have issues with leveling the bed and my memory carts sometimes recognized from the printer sometimes not.
Pm i need help i can't do it alone.
Good to know, thanks for the info.
Yes, happy to help, join the discord, we will help you better there
@@techs.passion my Ender-3 don't like the cr touch ,all the sd cards i have can't save the cr touch settings .
Now my printer works perfect with out the cr touch and with the normal software printing more than perfect
That's perfect but the CR touch still nice however if you are going to skip it, should still be find to be honest.
As for the SD card, use the same one you used to upgrade the printer, that should work to store the settings
I can't figure out whats wrong with my Ender 3. I've followed all the steps as shown but whenever I do Autohome once it reaches the printing base on the z axis it just keeps trying to go further down and doesnt stop and so the motor is just continuously trying to spin the rod and move the nozzle further down even though its already reached the bottom and the tip of the CR Touch is already touching the bed
Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. It sounds like it has something to do with the firmware or the offset level because it sounds like your printer is still looking for the Z switch which I'm guessing you disconnected as you should.
Make sure you have the correct firmware and set the correct z offset level
@@techs.passion so I actually figured out a solution. I had to take off the z switch entirely not just unplug it. Basically the arm was going down the Z axis but was still stopping at the switch since it was a physical object stopping it from actually going all the way down and touching the board with the sensor on the cr touch.
Ended up having a firmware issue though and the printer kept freezing so had to switch to marlin firmware and now its working great! First print came out great other than running out of test spool before it finished lol
I'm glad you figured it out. Yes that Z switch is not needed. Thank you for the update and glad to hear it
I didn’t get any rubber levelers in my package???
Most of them should come with it but in your case I'm sure the springs will work just fine. It's not a big deal really but sorry to hear that you didn't get them.
so mine didnt come with rubber pieces and mine still has the spring and it wont allow my z offset to go below 0 and wont allow the nozzle to get close enught to the bed for the paper level how do i fix this
Hi, the springs are fine, no need for the rubber. As for the below zero, make sure to disconnect the Z switch and upgrade the firmware
i have removed the z switch and updated firmware still won't allow me to go below zero@@techs.passion
never mind watched your other video and got it figured out!
Perfect, glad that you figured it out
Bit late to the party but would this work with a Bl touch or is it just cr touch thanks
It would but you will need a different version of the firmware
@ ok thank you
is it suitable for Ender 3? on paper it says for 32 bit processor. but ender 3 is 8 bit i think.
Yes it works for Ender 3, I have it on my ender 3 that said I have the 32 bit motherboard. What is your motherboard version? Check and make sure there is a firmware for it
Hello, I would like to know if you can tell me what size the silicone supports are, if they are 16mm or 18mm?
Hi, I didn't measure them but. 3 of them are a bit higher than the 4th one which goes on the cable leg of the bed
Currently I'm not near the printer, I will try to measure them when I get back
i have ender 3 pro which update should i downloiad?
Hi, what is your motherboard version, I will look it up for you and see if I can help find the correct update for you :)
@@techs.passion i have just check it's 4.2.2 ender 3 pro
Thanks for the details. This is what I found for you, please verify everything but I hope I got it correctly and I hope it is helpful. In case this is not clear, I will make a video later today to show exactly how to do it, I will share that with you when it's ready.
Here are the links: For CR touch, in this link here www.crealitycloud.com/software-firmware/other?source=1
Go under Ender Series Then choose the Pro and your Mainboard Version: V4.2.2 and choose the firmware. Read the description but it looks like there are languages different and some different release dates.
For firmware and general user manual, this is your page www.creality.com/pages/download-ender-3-pro?spm=..page_1934481.products_display_1.1&spm_prev=..page_1934481.header_1.1
So unless you have something other than default, go with this
Ender-3 Pro Marlin2.0.1 - V1.1.2 - ALT(32bit)
I will make a more detailed video tonight hopefully it helps out a bit more.
Good luck and thank you for watching
@@techs.passion thanks bro i will buy the cr tomorrow so i want to check everything is working for me before i buy it

why don't we put the g29 code underneath the g28?
You are correct, that's the correct way of doing it. It's still working fine for me but the right way is under.
Thank you for watching and the correction, I appreciate it so much
@@techs.passion no problem! I do have another problem though, my ender three always shows no tf card. Can you tell me how to fix it? It’s brand new, there are no files other than prints, and I always eject it properly from my laptop. ( it is also formatted to the correct way) it was also working perfectly fine for my first three attempts, but then I just got the warning. And if it doesn’t show the warning, it doesn’t show a print.
Thank you
A few tings comes to mind, I have seen the issue also heard of it a lot. Try different MicroSD Card. Another thing is avoid large size cards, 32 GB is your max I would say. Last thing, when you bring the card back to the laptop, is it still works fine, like after the error, you take the card back to the laptop, is the card corrupted or good on the laptop? I know you said the format is correct and all that. Unfortunately, I have seen it being a motherboard issue and you would have to replace the board but I hope you do not have to go that far. Hopefully this helps, the last thing I would try is update the firmware version to something newer and if the printer not too old and if it end up being the board you can look into getting a new one from the seller. Will the bed spacers work with Ender 3 max?
Yes, they will work. This CR touch should work with the max
So why did they make it so you can’t use negative values on the v2? My nozzle is too high and 0 is still too high. I give up.
You should be able to set a negative value for the z offset. Did you upgrade your firmware?
Let me try to help, no need to give up
@@techs.passion i really appreciate you and your fast response🙏:
I did upgrade my firmware. Appearance wise it all looks good so far. But I did the first autohome that leaves you with 10mm of clearance. And the lowest I can set it to is 0 on the ender 3 v2. Which also only allows full decimal point increments. So that’s making it even harder to dial it in. But either way. There’s still a good 3-4mm of space between the nozzle and the bed. My stock z switch is removed. Ive heard on some forums to add some 8 digit code to the OS of the printer or something. But that’s waaayyyyy out of my skill set and I don’t see how it’s necessary if every tutorial on RUclips doesn’t mention it. I don’t wanna do any more damage than I already have
@@techs.passion ignore my last comment:
Things have changed. Still not working. But I found the official support for it. Installed that firmware. And I’m following tutorials exactly.
- autohome.
- set the z offset
- manually level the bed
- autohome again. In which case it SHOULD do the 9 points. But instead it just undoes what I did.
There’s no videos or forums talking about any issues with these. And if there are there is no replies.
Do I just have a defective unit?
That’s the worst part about all of this nonsense. You could troubleshoot til the day you die and it could just be a faulty component that they just decided to send me anyways.
It could be a defective unit but did you make the g code change in the slicer? There is a pinned comment on this video talks about it. This might be the problem. Sorry to hear, keep me posted and I will try to help as much as I can
@@techs.passion I got some assistance on Reddit from someone who had the same issue. Apparently I needed the GD version of the firmware. And that solved my issue!

It’ll be due to STM firmware running on a GD chip, I had the same issue, the firmware options aren’t clear on the Creality website.
My firmware doesnt have store settings option.
The only reason I can think of is the microSD card is not inserted or could be corrupted, try to format the microSD card to FAT32 and reinsert it
I am downloading the right thing for my version 4.2.2 board but when I put the microSD card in it doesn’t work and just loads like normal does anybody know why the firmware won’t update on my printer
Hi, you came to the right place, this video should help ruclips.net/video/Um36ElyThS4/видео.html
If not, please let me know and happy to offer further help if needed
I got onto the download page that you suggested, and got the file for my board but when I put it in it didn’t flash the file onto my printer and again loaded up as normal so I’m not sure what I should do next.😅
It was the file for the CRtouch
So you want to make sure that file is on the top level on the SD card and ensure your SD is formatted correct
I have formatted my SD card to fat32 and put the file into the sd card and it still didn’t work the only thing I’m not to sure about is how to put the file on the top level not sure what you mean 😢 but thank you so much for the help
Yeah, I knew I saw this video before lol I followed this to a T and I have no issue with flashing the hard drive however I think i'm making this too hard. When you put the CR Touch on the ender 3, will this firmware replace the current Marlin one on there? Like my Marlin shows in the About Printer 2022 but when I load the cr touch, the firmware changes in the About printer to 2020.
Subbed since I've spent several hours on your channel in the last week and appreciate all the help you have given to the community
Yes, the CR touch firmware will replace your original firmware unless the original one you have support CR touch. I should test that when I get a chance, I think Marlin does support CR touch but don't take my word for it.
Thank you so much, I'm happy to have you 😊 I think you made my 10k

why change start gcode?
It lets the printer level the bed before starting using the CR touch
@@techs.passion it wont work if we dont change it?
It will still work just fine from my own experience but it's recommended to update it. There is a pinned comment explaining it
A couple months ago i bought a cr touch, i tried to install it and everything went well untill it suddenly stopped working. I restarted the printer and the light was now constantly red. i tried to fix it by looking at some youtube videos but nothing worked. After a few days it stopped lighting up at all and now it does nothing. Do you have any idea on what the problem can be?
Hi, sorry to hear, sounds like too much trouble. Since it's not even lighting up I'm guessing something with the power so basically I would check the cable and ensure all that connected well. Take the cable and test it own it's own, make sure the cable doesn't have any cuts. I'm guessing you can you use a multimeter or simple LED to test it out. If the cable checks out and you make sure it's connected well and still no light then it might just be the CR touch dead but sounds like a power issue is my bet guess.
@@techs.passion Thank you for fast response, I will check and see if it gets power or if its just broken.
@@techs.passion I removed the backplate and wiggled the cable while the printer was on and it started to work again, so the cable was not getting good connection, ty for your help (=
Glad I was able to help, yeah it sounded like something with the cable. Hopefully it works, you might need to reset the settings and the offset, I know the software can be buggy and sometimes you just need to re enter the offset level.
@@techs.passion it si finally working!! only took like 2 months /= do i have to level the bed before every print or how often should i level it?
do I unplug z axis ??
other videos showed it and you showed the board once with it unplugged but middle of video I'm confused then plugged back in after in other clips....
Yes, unplug the Z
Sorry for the confusion, unplug the Z that's correct
So when I put in my sd card it's formated and works but it's not showing up on the screen if you do find it you can't choose the thing and i still need some help with z offset, should I get a new one that already has one or what should I do I can post a video on my channel to show you
Did you upgrade the firmware already? You need the new firmware to be on the SD card then of course you need to add your prints files as well before it can see anything
Yes, happy to look at a video if it helps, also you can post it to my discord, it's free
@techs.passion I don't have discord but I will post I video about it and can you help me about the z offset I'm new to this and I don't get it I already put in the firmware and have a gcode to put in there the torture toast test
I just uploaded it on my channel
Is there a way to factory reset or what, I can also show you my slicer software too if you need it and sometimes the file will load up put you can't click it you can only choose main and nothing else, got this for my birthday and thinking about selling it and get a new one of you want me to i can post a long form video of me inserting the sd card and all that stuff in my laptop if I need ti
And sometimes it doesn't even read the sd card
I did all these steps and still it’s to high off bed
That would be the Z offset is the reason. Also I noticed that the software is not the best depeding on which version you are using but I would set the Z offset and ensure it is holding the value. Let me know if you need further help with that. Good luck
I don't have that port
