Watching from the Philippines. Those Lancer are popular here alternative from Toyota corolla's ke25(te27) ke35(te37).
They're honestly just more popular in general. I see more A70s than I do the equivalent TEs where I live. The box type Lancers are still plentiful though, just by the sheer number of units sold back in the day.
That bonnet is absolutely mental.

Nah there is a down side to Perth, the summer heat cooks a lot of things, so plastic trims & stuff end up really brittle & snap easy

Man I enjoy these videos so much, I envy all the guys that have sheds like these because in my country it is nearly impossible to have a place with a roof over your head for your rides! My cars are just out there in the rain and nothing I can really do about it.
That's how most of Ireland is sadly. Lol

Sometimes cars are still very happy cars just existing with their crustiness! Not a rat rod, not over the top patina, just moisture and time.

We had the same imports in New Zealand. All the cars we now appreciate have been well trashed and killed over the years. So many rare Hondas , Nissans etc way back as early as we could import the cool stuff in the mid 80’s. Now they are rare to see them kicking around the streets.

Nothing a couple of cans of WD40 can’t fix lol but seriously I used to spy all my off road bikes after every run out with a full can and never had a rust or corrosion problem and kept my bikes looking new, I now spy my cars with it
Aussie here,, it really depends where in Oz you are in regards to rust.
Its more common in the Southern States but up North it's more Sun damage from being left outside that you have to worry about.
Rust is a thing here but yeah, nothing like Ireland
Sadly its horrific here, rust from the inside out is the silent killer
Most civics were turned into rally cars we built and prepared 8 over the years, 3 ef civics ,3 eg civics and 2 ek civics 😂 ther was even a fella in Donegal spent years just welding cages in ek civics and selling them as bare shells for Rallying, i wish i videoed it

5:04 A70 Lancers definitely have achieved halo car status here. Not the last word in speed but the engines are very rev-happy lol

The colt wagon is cool. I had a galant colt 16L coupe with the 2.6 sigma engine. Super fun car that would literally rust overnight 😆

Had a white factory sunroof evo 4. They rust and meant to have a softer engine than the 5, 6 etc. Very fun cars!

@juiceboxforyou. Yeah, they're pretty much popular in the Philippines. Oldskul JDM Culture in the Philippines is so much alive! Those gems are kept in an immaculate condition I would say.
Every time I'm looking for rare parts its always Philippines that has them lol. Honda keeps making unique Philippines OEM optional extras too which we can't get anywhere else. Jealous >:(

Had a Galant colt 2 dr coupe here in New Zealand around 2002 it was yellow and as rusty as your one but I drove it around as you do when young was different to your lancer colt.
Either this was filmed in 2021 or your man had no tax😂

The drivers seat in the yellow colt looks like the tombstone seats that came in the k10 Micra/March if he wanted to try have to matching front seats
That badge on the mitsubishi lancer is very similar to the isuzu badge.

I'm a huge Mitsu fan myself! Here in the states these were brought in by Dodge and sold as a Dodge Colt or Plymouth Arrow. I just so happen to have picked up a 77 Colt coupe! she's a bit rough...I could use some help in getting some parts like new bumpers, turn signal lenses etc.

So many 90's civics were made in to rally cars the rest were so common they were killed off before they started to rust then scrapped

That's some shed alright. 🙂 Like you've noted Ireland is full of them and not just JDM iron. I personally know of a few. One filled with pre 70's Alfa's, another with a bunch of RS fords. A rellie of mine has a small collection of 50's and 60's Alfa's. Another classic VW's. All 'ordinary' guys with some extraordinary cars.
In one way it helps that the car scene is tiny here compared to say the UK and your average Irish person only cares about the badge and the year on the reg plate, so often enough "old cars' can be relatively cheap, even with the current massive jump in prices for JDM stuff. IMHO that's a near definition of an asset bubble, especially for stuff like Skylines(million quid R34's? GTFO 🤪), mostly driven by US buyers. Even in the current climate Irish generally speaking cars like this are still about the cheapest on the planet.
Rust? My oul lad a mechanical engineer by trade was paranoid about tinworm so I grew up around that mindset. With his cars he would soak all inner cavities/leading edges with waxoyl and the like and never had issues with rust. His take and I dunno how true it is, was that most hidden rust started from the welds and worked its way out, so you had to keep moisture and air away from those as much as possible. I'm also convinced driving them regularly helps, gets the wind through them and dries them out.
I use the bilt hamber wax stuff. _Way_ easier to use and beats competitors in tests by some margin. Once a year in summer I check and reapply and make sure all drain holes are clear. My 90's Honda I treated the week it came off the boat from Japan in 05, lives outdoors, driven in rain, snow and shine and no rust so far. 🤞Needs a wash though. 😁
