Around -82 a college (while i was working as Sheetmetal press slave @ Volvo Torslanda), had a Mustang like that, green metallic, like brand new. He was doing streetracing, to afford it he worked double shifts at Volvo. On the remaining hours he worked with the Mustang. He was thin as a line... I once visited him in his garage, when he was installing a brand new 9-inch rearend he had bought from Ford. It was that standard, hence the double shifts. Fabolous cars in that condition.. I have noticed that these cars look a bit big on photos, but his just low & sleek, elegant.... He raced it in cosmetically 100% original conditon, incl wheels, etc.
Don't worry about the slow progress on the 67. It takes time to build the car you want the way you want it. Meanwhile it's good to see a new video. I'm hoping things with Jen and the new baby are going as expected.
Wow, nice find! that thing is one of the best Ford parts cars I have ever seen. lots of good stuff. probably built in the early-mid 80's and was damn fast. those looked like the vintage TRW forged domed pistons which would give about 12:1 compression with those close chambered heads. Don't blame yourself for those exhaust valves, the ports were full of water for a long time working on the metal. still heads worth some money for a rebuild core. great work!

I’m watching the Mach 1 Mustang video, I’ve owned a couple. 1st thing I noticed on the Cleveland engine has that number 4 on them which means they are the large port heads, you’ll be amazed how big the ports are. That 1971 Mustang may be a quite rare car. Those stipes look to be factory and the only way you could get a coupe with factory stripes and color matched front bumper was if it was a "Spring Special". I believe they only made them in 1971, if it is an M Code (351 4V) 4 speed car then it would be quite rare. I just saw the #4 on the head, so those are 4 valve heads. You may have struck gold on this one. 1971 4 V heads are closed chamber heads, and those head by themselves are easily worth over $1000 as cores.
I saw one of those spring special cars at a car show. It was a 1971 model in red with black stripes and interior. Does have the Mach 1 front end with the hood.
4 BARREL heads, not four valve. Four barrel heads were large ports, compared to the normal 2-barrel ports. For a non-stock (and 50+ year old car) depending on the head casting numbers, could be either closed or open chamber four-barrel heads. My first car back in '76 was a '72 Cougar, and I've had 71-73 Cougars ever since (Same as Mustnags under the skin) I still have two '73 Q-code 351C-4V Cougars, and the Wife still has has her 22k- all-original M-code '70 Mach 1 351C-4V that she bought in 1983...
I'm betting that 351C not only has 4 barrel heads, but they are the closed chamber 4 barrel heads. Open chamber 351C-4V heads were introduced for the 1972 model year and can usually be spotted from the outside by a large, raised dot cast next to the "4". I agree, this could actually be a rare variant of the Mustang, but only if it is original. Given the modifications to the engine, it might be just a hotrod. 4 bolt block were originally just for the 351 Boss and 351 HO engines. 4 bolt mains were common with the 1972-74 production 351-CJ, which was the open chamber 4V head engine.
You're quite fun to watch- very knowledgeable. Kudos on your family (now growing) and your pets- love to see that side of a guy. Also, it's great to see you do some clean-up before you start tearing things apart. That's about the first thing I'd do if I was in the same business. Talk about knowledge, tools, parts! Great passion and interest for all things mechanical. Thanks!
My 2nd car was this model Mustang. I purchased the car for $1,500 used. I owned 3 years of this, big body style, Mustang 1971,72, and the 73 was a fastback. It was a good car but in 1978 I moved on to the Pontiac Trans Am's while working for GM. Thanks for the video.
I'm not a mechanic but in my opinion, if the valves broke that easy, they must have been pretty soft and wouldn't have lasted anyway. Don't feel guilty we all would have done the same. But hopefully you got a few things out of it for your mustang, and thanks for another great video
My guess, based on what we saw was that the previous owner tried to fix the problem ( years ago ) and broke off that one old valve. Then let it sit for years as it was too much trouble to take everything apart and rebuild it.
Too bad about the pile of rust body. i have a love of 351C engines and really hoped you would keep it all together with the heads/carb/intake/clutch/etc. I would have bought the complete longblock with all peripheral accessories including the carb. Really hated seeing it being parted out instead of (Ideally) having 2 or 3 junk Mach 1's and making one decent car out of them even if the final car still needed floor pans/trunk pan/quarters, etc. it's still worth it to some of us early 70's mach 1 enthusiasts. But, i get it, u did what you had to do and at least saved the best parts instead of leaving the car to rust to oblivion in it's former grave. Good job and great RUclips channel by the way!

That Cleveland 4 barrel would look real good in your 1967! When you jumped on the throttle you would know you where going for a ride. It even looks like you got a Edelbrock Torquer.
The only problem about getting that Cleveland in that little Mustang is it’s awfully big in comparison to a Windsor series like 302. You can do it but be real tight and other work. But yea a built 351 4V Would devastate the 289
@@pete79602 The 1967 Chassis is the same as the 1969 and 1970, that Came with a 351 Cleveland. 1th 1967 68 also had a 428 that is a lot bigger than Cleveland.
@@mylanmiller9656 If I remember right, the 390-428 67-68's has shallow shock towers to better fit the wider big blocks. The small block mustangs had deeper shock towers. But still, the Cleveland is just a small block with huge port heads and would easily fit between the small block shock towers.
I say, pull the drive train, rebuild that engine and stick it all in your 67' Mustang and yes the Cleveland will fit between the shock towers. You can also put 4v Cleveland heads on a 302 with a Boss 302 intake manifold and that sucker will sing! That Toploader 4speed is worth north of $1200 alone and a Hurst shifter will cost you like $300+ used (you can rebuild them). The 9 inch rear axle is worth $1200 and more if it's a limited slip and will drop right into the 67. Holley carb are is chunk of change and you can send them to places like National Carburetor and they'll restore it for less than half the price of new (Holley used to offer restoration services but I don't know if they still do that).
The hurst shifter is a stock ford Hurst Shifter Worth a lot more than 300 dollars they are imposable to replace if you are restoring a car. I can tell it is a stock ford Hurst because it has the Slide ends on the linkage rods. Hurst rods are threaded.
The 1972 Mustang in forest green with the slamted back window , 351 Cleveland was excellent with the C6 modified tranny, Stock did 104 at 12.8 secs. Not bad for a rwo barrel. Got a 911 now. Life goes on for those Mustangs....
If its the orignal 4 speed radiator with no connections for transmission lines. Rad could be worth some money. RAD could be same part number for a 1971 BOSS 351.
When I was young, my aunt had a 1971 Mustang Grande exact same color green as that one. Hers had also 351 Cleveland 4V but automatic. Great video I LOVE IT. Looks like some of my projects, One comes to mine with a 55' Ford Wagon. I worked on it for about 3 hours at the old owner house and drove it home, and same for the 56' F600 with the 2spd reared/ and the 52' Studebaker 3ton truck, 67' Buick with high performance 400 auto. Most all of my projects were sitting in the hot sun for a long time in dry grassy fields, and many that i am sure i forgot about 40yrs ago
Such a fun channel! Chris has such an easygoing manner, and is so good at explaining what is going on, without sounding pedantic or condescending. Only problem with this video is not enough Jenn!
Thanks!
Thank you man!
My man, thank you Chris, you're a rockstar.
That clutch an pressure plate is a zoom, They were always purple, Enjoy your videos from central Fl.
Very cool, I'm still working on the 69 mustang, 77 corvette and 65 galaxie. Love bringing classics back to life
I'm glad to see you again NNKH🤗
As always,we have a rusty pile of
something beautiful, but usually not working. But these golden hands will make everything work💪👍
Greetings from Western Australia
I never get sick of watching the flat tyres inflating in fast motion
Love it
Thanks for all your hard work and enthusiasm
Gday from WA
Good to see y'all agen..Best wishes to Jen, all the very best for the future...
Don't worry about the slow progress on the 67. It takes time to build the car you want the way you want it. Meanwhile it's good to see a new video. I'm hoping things with Jen and the new baby are going as expected.
Thank you for your hard work and a good technical review of the repair.
A friend thanks to your videos helps me a lot in restoring cars
Been watching you for a while. Your realistic optimism and can-do attitude is uncommon and welcome. Keep it up, and cheers to ya!
Wow, nice find! that thing is one of the best Ford parts cars I have ever seen. lots of good stuff. probably built in the early-mid 80's and was damn fast. those looked like the vintage TRW forged domed pistons which would give about 12:1 compression with those close chambered heads.
Don't blame yourself for those exhaust valves, the ports were full of water for a long time working on the metal. still heads worth some money for a rebuild core.
great work!
only guy i know that can open a car with a FOREST growing inside of it and still get absolutely psyched over the gear shifter
talk about Mr. Bright Side
Don't beat yourself up too hard Chris everybody screws up. If you don't you're not doing anything. And God knows you do a lot and don't make many screw ups. Great video as usual keep em coming
Epic content as per usual - watching from Cornwall in the UK
electric winch and snatch block moveing a non rolling vehicle is awesome man, me and my son were in awe and dollys, slick
Hey man, not sure if you get time to read all these comments but I just wanted you to know that I have recently had back surgery and I randomly found your channel. I have binge watched all your videos over the last few days and it has kept me from going crazy. The production value and edits are really good and the content is also just as good. Love the channel!
Hey, sorry to hear you needed a surgery, hopefully on your way to a speedy recovery. Appreciate you tuning into the videos very much and thank you for your feedback.
Much sympathy, brother. I've had 8 spine surgeries. Lumbar spine is totally fused top to bottom, and three levels in my neck. Got another surgery scheduled for another neck fusion in December. Lumbar and thoracic spine surgeries are crazy painful. Take it easy, and WEAR YOUR BRACE even though they're such a pita. Best wishes, man.
yes i have owned many Mustangs with all kinds of engines/transmissions from 1965 to 1978 at that's it! I had a Plutonium Yellow72' Mustang with the same hood you have mine had 351M with the FMX transmission it was probably one of the most reliable cars i ever had went ALL OVER california
VERY-VERY nicely equipped. If you buy a '71-'73 Coupe, and it has the 351/stick, optional Mach 1 nose, THAT is the one to get. Bonus if it has Console, Power Windows, Gauge Package, and Air.
Wait, Air was an option? ;)
I picked up a 71 from a friend's dad a while back. Just a 302w auto but it still sounds good and has the mock1 hood. Old license plate was "A MOCK 1"
Wow, quite the time warp under the hood. Mallory performance coil, dual point distributor. Holley double pumper carb (4776=600cfm 4777≈650cfm etc...) Yellow go-fast wires. Cool stuff. Linkage on the steering column was used on 4 speed cars to work the steering lock. Shame the car is that far gone. Make a great donor car.
Hi Chris
Great score!
Cleveland 4V with closed chamber heads
Hugely sought after here in Australia…
These things go real hard !!!
Put it in your mustang !!!
All that block needed was some dished pistons and one cylinder sleeve and he could of had a daily driver screamer.😔
Ain't seen one of your vids for a year or three, but enjoyed the process as usual.
Cheers and good luck with the upcoming projects.
What a shame the old girl just sat in the mud until it all but disappeared! Was a fun car back in the day. Thanks for saving the good parts Chris. Cheers to you, Jen, Gus, and the new addition! Todd the retired trucker.
Love your doggy!!!! Show is good too. sensible and no nonsense.
I’m watching the Mach 1 Mustang video, I’ve owned a couple. 1st thing I noticed on the Cleveland engine has that number 4 on them which means they are the large port heads, you’ll be amazed how big the ports are. Also the Cleveland’s have the same bell housing as the small block Fords. So lots of good stuff there. Enjoy watching your channel.👍
Penn. loves their GREEN classics; I had an original Green '66 Fairlane from PA. Keep up the great work
My little furry friend passed today but this video helped put a smile on my face!
Sorry to hear that!
💔
Sorry for your loss 💜
My daughter lost her hamster too. Tough day.
@@karlos543 indeed
The crustiest restoration I ever did was a 70 Monte Carlo and it wasn’t near as bad as this one. It had a lot of surface rust, but no cancer. I love your mustangs. I hope you can save this one.
This was an amazing video. I watched all 44mins. But I just came here to say, your wife is a smoke show. 😍
I absolutely love the videos where you talk about trying to profit off of projects. A lot of RUclips car channels have motivated me to get into making a side hustle of my vehicle hobby.
And not in a grease ball way either. I always try to be fair and completely open/honest with whoever I deal with.
Perfect Friday night video!! Got my whiskey boys!!!
Sounds like a good time! Thanks for tuning in
Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge. I love watching your videos.
Probably couldn't have been saved, but damn does it hurt to see it in that condition.
Love it, Chris. You come on a rusted out piece of junk and say, "that's not too bad", and proceed to get it running! I have to start looking at things with a different set of eyes. :)
Glad to see a new video on the main channel, they're getting rarer and rarer, I hope everything's ok in your life Chris, you must be pretty everywhere with your daughter arriving so soon, a pregnant wife and the Gus-man, Turbo, the chicken, the bees...
Take care buddy. Love your channel, it's my favourite on Ytb.
Hey man, yeah I've been striving to stick to the two weeks schedule but things have been a little hectic lately. All is well though. I appreciate you very much for tuning in and I hope all is going good for you and your family as well!
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow Take it easy buddy, don't burn yourself out, your life should always come first, and so should your family, and dude am I thrilled there's gonna be a new addition to the NNKH family soon... I suppose you're also eyeing new houses and properties judging by the clean up of your fleet lately, and I wish you good luck for that too, next video will come out when it comes out! You're a good man, but life ain't easy when you're in charge, we know it... Take care buddy!
An old man relative of mine has the same car, brown. It still has its original paint. It's a magnificent model.
The phrase "Bring us a shrubbery" popped into my mind for some reason.
I am a shrubber. Roger the Shrubber.
Ni!
Digging that Depsteck borescope thingo cobber. I've been landscaping around this old building for ages and whenever it rains huge spouts of water guizer up from the cracks in the concrete and underneath the ground it sounds like a flooding subway tunnel ... that Depsteck borescope looks like a handy tool bro! Biggest fan in Oz👍 👍
That thing was rough but learned a lot watching you strip it down~!
So $900,bucks for a 51 clevo & a 9"...NOT to mention all the other bits...easy money & sold cheap....nice that you pass it on..... very kool
You're quite fun to watch- very knowledgeable. Kudos on your family (now growing) and your pets- love to see that side
of a guy. Also, it's great to see you do some clean-up before you start tearing things apart. That's about the first thing I'd do if I was in the same business. Talk about knowledge, tools, parts! Great passion and interest for all things mechanical. Thanks!
The shifter in my beater daily 300 broke stuck in park this week and the video I found to fix it was from you years and years ago.
That's awesome to hear it the video is still helping people out!
My 2nd car was this model Mustang. I purchased the car for $1,500 used. I owned 3 years of this, big body style, Mustang 1971,72, and the 73 was a fastback. It was a good car but in 1978 I moved on to the Pontiac Trans Am's while working for GM. Thanks for the video.
in 79 and 80 I had a 1971 mach 1 351Cleveland doul point Mallory. 4 barl. did 150 mph in Death Valley.
Graduated from Calfornia State many years ago. Spent a few drunken nights in Yardley too. Really enjoy the channel.
*I juust finished watching Anything Goes Garage, the red chevelle is coming apart* !
I have no idea what any of this means but it’s fun to watch.
Chris's recording and editing skills are top notch! I feel spoiled watching your videos man, it's a night and day difference compared to most. Click the video, make it full screen, enjoy, and beg for more when it's over. On a side note, I'm loving what Jack @anythinggoesgarage5943 is doing with your Chevelle. That car is going to be way too nice for you 😂!
But yea a built 351 4V
Would devastate the 289
@@pete79602 The 1967 Chassis is the same as the 1969 and 1970, that Came with a 351 Cleveland.
@@mylanmiller9656 it much heavier than a 289 right so stronger springs ?
@@pete79602 the 1967 is 55 years old it should have new springs any way So to replace then with a heavy set is no big deal.
i like that you got everything to work with
Wohoo finally Cris a video!!
Enjoyed watching this one chris, the walk around, tear down on the motor, very interesting.
Awesome Find !!!
In coming when that trans was coming out! 😅Enjoyable watch for me. 😊
Can’t wait to see the Mustang finished!
Finished that car is finished
Any man that talks and treats animals this way, is all right in my book. I love the channel too :)
@@mylanmiller9656 Great catch! That car must have awesome!
I think the Grande was an upper trim package, hers had tilt, vinyl top, and air conditioning. Neat car, had the factory full wheel covers although I always thought mags.wouldve looked sharp
