      I don't agree. All he did was nothing but kludge. The breaks, are still bad, the injectors probably still needs to replaced, and the converter surely was originally built in for no reason - sorry, this has nothing to do with a decent repair. This is something you do to make it somehow to the next garage. The Camaro is a nice and iconic car and doesn't seem to be in an irreparable state but it need some time and money to come back to life. In the current state, the car is not roadworthy.

    Sweet! As a collector of these cars, I would implore you (and anyone who bought the car) not to cut the floor to get to the fuel pump. There are many reasons why, and I won’t go into all of them here, except that, even after cutting the floor, you will still have to cut the hard lines that are part of the sending unit, in order to get the sender out of the tank, and there are 4 of them. Yes, dropping the tank can be a pain on these cars. It’s still worth it

    If your throttle ever sticks like that, just turn the key off. I had a 74 Torino when I was 16 and had the throttle linkage of the carb get caught on the air filter when I floored it showing off to friends. Tried slapping the gas peddle a few times and then just turned the key off. I rode a lot of 4 wheelers and dirt bikes with kill switches so that was kindof helped to make my first instinct to kill the ignition.

I proceeded to rebuild it better stronger faster. Spliced in new front sub frame and hung new fenders and louvered hood on it. Added rear window louvers, IROC frt/rr bumper covers and side skirts, IROC badging and IROC wheels. Factory suspension goodies such as: 36mm hollow front stabilizer bar, front sub frame brace(wonder bar). Quick ratio steering sector(z575). Factory PBR rear disc's, 3:23 posi and the icing on the cake, an '85 TPI 305 I built to '92 spec with a built 700r4. Loved that car.

      options ---
      1) Decrease the Pitch on the Prop or
      2) Put a High Rise intake on it & that may get u the intake air speed to open the secondary's.
      3) Change the carb to a Quadra jet - i think this is best option.

    • @karlkoenigstein4138
      @karlkoenigstein4138 Месяц назад

      @@OcRefrig I think you’re correct. 3000 rpm, even on a big Cadillac, is probably just getting to the point where the secondaries would need to open (I.e. primaries alone are enough at that RPM). I think I heard the engine bogging when Chris opened the secondary blades manually, an indication that the engine doesn’t really need them yet. I think a Q-jet or a vacuum secondary spread-bore Holley would probably work better with the current setup. Also agree that a deeper pitched prop (like more rear gear) would allow the engine to rev a bit higher and might result in more overall top speed. The counter point is that Cadillacs are torquey and like to grunt against the gears, so maybe the setup is actually not so far from ideal….

    Your story about slamming it in reverse at speed reminded me: Years ago I was driving an 18ft cab over type box truck down a country road at about 55mph, my 2 coworkers next to me were just out of high school and would get anxious on long trips and start being annoying. The guy in the middle would get up and turn around in the cab kind of dancing or antsy spaz. That day he decided to do just that and knocked the shifter into reverse at 55mph, fastest deceleration of my life into an Instant stop almost featuring huge blue cloud of rubber smoke (and probable transmission fluid) along with a sound I cannot describe like a screaming machinery banshee and burnout sound.
    I looked over at that kid and said "If this truck doesn't go into drive and shift all the gears, you're calling the owner of the company (who was a real hothead)
    Anyway, excellent videos-I never miss them

      Threw it into drive and away we went, everything seeming good and all gears. The followup though: a couple weeks later that trans catastrophically failed in epic fashion on the highway. That kid was my buddy and a hard as worker on a tough job so I never told the owner, and that truck was never right after that either as I dropped 7 more transmissions over the next few more years I drove it.

    Chris - you and Craig (and Dan!) at The Bearded Mechanic are my two most favorite RUclips guys. You are NOT AFRAID to get dirty. You don't accept no for an answer. You don't throw money at parts unnecessarily. You're thoughtful, organized, and prepared. You're willing to take a risk. You work on the smallest of budgets. You're honest and decent. And Gus is as cute as they get. Keep doing what you do - you are an inspiration and a PLEASURE to watch - and I always look forward to your work. Mahalo!

    To release the red convertible tonneau top cover you should release the back of the rear seat (fold her forward) release handle is on the passenger side and the find both tiny black metal cables on both sides of the car to release the tonneau top cover. No electric release is necessary. This is basically the back up system in case the electric release don't work.

My fourth son named Steven, suffered from that condition and it was horrible. He needed surgery at age six weeks. It was a simple procedure but proved to be of life saving importance.
    Incidentally, Steven is soon to be the proud father of a baby girl in January 25. To be named Grace. Making me a very proud grandfather.

    9:50 Similar story! So one time, I was driving to a friend’s house on my dad’s 85 Ford LTD. So my friend lived in an alley towards the middle. There were some dogs getting ready to chaise me so I floored it. The gas pedal got stuck on me! The problem is, this alley ends at a ditch! So I panicked and put the car in park and shut the engine off. Slid about 10 to 20 feet before coming to a stop, sideways! Missed the ditch by about 15 feet! There was a guy at his house washing his car and saw me as I threw him a cloud of dust and dirt! He wasn’t even mad at me, he was concerned. Passed my friend’s house by like three or four houses! 🤦🏻‍♂️
