I live a mile from this barn. A friend of mine owned this car back in the early 90s. I was in highschool then and owned an 84 Trans am with the HO 305, 460 holly, 411s. We use to race a quarter mile we had marked out on a country road outside of town. There was about 8 or so of us who would meet and cruise up town and eventually we knew where we would end up lol. Love seeing this. My Trans am was with me till about 3 years ago.
I know these videos are difficult for you to produce but I think I speak for all your fans when I say thank you for your hard work and sense of humor. 👍😂
It’s really cool to throw on VGG like it’s a movie. 2 hours long feels like you’re really trying to give us everything that goes along with revivals, especially since the majority of RUclips videos are shorter now. And the quality gets better and better too with every upload. It’s crazy to to see how far this channel has come. Only channel I’ve ever been a member of and the only merchandise I’ve ever absolutely needed. 🤘🤘
I'd throw some A/C in it that's just me and then really fix that bad boy up and drive the snot out of it. I would like to see you fix it up right. Liking the longer format vids.
This episode made me both happy and sad. My son Tony was born 1989. He was always a motorhead from the time he could get ahold of tools. Grandpa let him work on mowers, lawntractors, and pretty much anything else with a motor since he was 4 or 5 years old. By the time Tony was a teenager, he was repairing and "speedifying" motors of all kinds for people all over our neighborhood and beyond. Tony's first car was a Geo Metro that I picked up for him cheap. It lasted thru part of a summer of crazy fun with him and his friends; (the stories I heard after he was grown made me happy that I was blissfully unaware when he had the car.) Then I got him a 1978 Chevy K-10 pick-up. HE LOVED THIS TRUCK! But I made him sell it after someone turned in front of him in (of all things) a Geo and he literally drove over it and bent the frame on the pickup. This mom didn't have the same sense of value for vehicles that he did so I forced him to sell but I matched him $ for $. He took that money and Tony's first car that he sought out and bought for himself as a teenager was a 1989 Camaro that was almost like the car in this episode. It was his baby for years. He believed the Camaro was made for him and I believe he loved this car more than the K-10 simply because the mfr date of the Camaro was April 1989; Tony's birthday is 4/7/1989. Tony graduated high school and then went to a local college and obtained an automotive technician associates degree. He then became a licensed master mechanic. When he got all of his is mechanic certifications, I transferred title of his grandpa's 2001 Pontiac Bonneville with 25,025 miles. Grandpa had passed away in 2003 and I held onto it for Tony. The Bonneville became his daily driver and he put his Camaro into a storage unit along with a brand new motor in a crate. He intended to do a ground up, bumper to bumper restoration on his Camaro when he got time. Tony also raced at local track for a couple of years 2017-2018 and drove a Dodge Challenger that he painted orange like the General Lee. Around 2019 Tony's life went sideways and he never could get it back under control. He lost the storage unit and his prized Camaro for non-payment around 2019. I lost Tony in 2022. He is my only child. My life is so danged empty without him. VGG episodes helps bring back a little bit of Tony. Your enthusiasm for getting a vehicle running reminds me so much of Tony. I enjoy watching VGG episodes, even at times thru tears. I wish my son were still around and doing what you are doing today. I know he would be one of your biggest fans. Keep wrenching and enjoying life. Keep the videos coming. Thank you VGG!
Thanks! My father had a rig just like this one, only red that he bought new in 1989. I was a Sophomore in high school and I don’t think I ever felt more cool than the couple time he let me drive to school. He had been sick for a while and passed away while I sat with him watching this Friday night. While he wasn’t with it enough to follow your show, you made me smile many times on a night where that didn’t seem possible.
Would love to see at least a partial resto on this one. Maybe some decent rubber, a quick paint buff, or even a full Craig's list respray. And definetly a full cleanup and renovation on the interior so you can take Jessica to town in it.
Just pressure wash it from engine bay to trunk lid, de-rodent the innards & just enjoy it. Retro steering wheel would improve the peeper show when scooting around. This car seems well made. Everyone was bitching about quality back then. Would a 1988 Honda be any better? Less fun, that’s for sure. Ok, it’d return 30mpg+ but not be enjoyable.
I did not expect this today. So happy I subscribed to this channel, this is exactly what this woman needed on this lonely Friday evening. My husband passed away 2006 but he had a '84 Camaro and we had great times with that fast ride. thank you for reminding me of happy moments once upon a time! Bring the thunder....
THAT SO FUNNY!!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!!! YOU ARE SO HILARIOUS!!! I'LL BET!!! YOU KNOW WHAT!? I'LL BET YOU ARE THE!!!! AAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I'LL BET YOU ARE THE BOB ROSS OF RUclips COMMENTS!!!! AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
A guy somehow puts out a feature length, well edited and incredibly entertaining video on the regular. I'll be dipped. You're killing it, Derek. You're a natural at this.
the look on your face when the engine fired on the first crank... PRICELESS. you got a jewel there...spit shine, polish and buff it till it glows. and keep the rims...think they are a limited edition.
1:11:40 this is classic Derek right here and why I watch every episode. Listen to this comment about blood pressure and filet mignon…… if only everyone could have this kind of nature when life challenges them. A fella really enjoys watching that fella. Even my fellet is getting hooked.
When the engine broke free .., I hollered out “YES !!!!!!” , and woke the baby. But c’mon , I was rootin for ya Derek ! Another good one. Thanks , and hello to the vice grip family.
Honestly, the content on this channel is absolutely top drawer stuff. When I first heard about the channel, I had absolutely no intention of watching an hour of recovery on old rigs and now, having enjoyed it so much, I'm delighted to see a two hour episode! Big respect from this side of the pond for your knowledge and hilarious delivery. This channel is now just about my favourite!
I never get tired of "It's got a go handle" and "Way too much. Perfect!" Make sure the oil has lots of "vitamins and dinosaurs" Great episode - back to old time VGG!
Good video ! About the Gas Mileage - I have a 1986 iroc z28 Camaro. 305 also. 17 mpg city , i Got 30 mpg Hwy on non stop trip up to Modesto from San Clemente California. Mine is the same 305 , but tuned port fuel injection. So , You Getting 19 on the Hwy is Easy to Believe. Btw - I’m the Original Owner. These Years of Camaro Get Great Gas mileage im finding out. Between it being 305 & Good Aerodynamics it seems. Mines Been parked for 12 years.
@OcRefrigeration I had a ‘90 Iroc 305 and it got decent mileage. My ‘98 T/A with the LS1 gets damn near 19 mpg around town if I keep my foot out of it.
Watched several of your rescues and find your colorful and descriptive language as entertaining as the repair process. I am intrigued by your ability to resolve so many different issues with just a few basic tools and some shade-tree mechinecking. Thanks!
Well this is how old cars are. All this new stuff needs computers and a bunch of specialty tools. But i do agree with you he is amazing at diagnosis on these old vehicles.
Just LOVE watching these videos. My dad was a mechanic all his life - never read a book or took a class - learned from his dad who was an Army mechanic in WW2. I see so many of the things you do - like reading spark plugs or just listening and getting a feel for the engine - that my dad used to do too. No machines or computers telling them what's wrong. Old school wrench turning. Growing up I would work in my dad's shop after school and on the weekends and he would teach me the basics and I'd help him with the rest. He had 1 other mechanic who worked with him - John - who was also never formally trained at all - just learned from his dad also. John started with my dad the day he graduated grade 12 and worked for him for about 20 years. John was not only a complete natural when it came to fixing cars and a genius - he was also a comedian. He would joke and laugh with me non stop as a young kid hanging out in dads shop. The 3 of us just had the best time all the time no matter what. You remind me so much of my dad and John when I watch your videos. You are so smart with the cars like they both were, and you're so funny while you do it just like John was. I didn't go into mechanics at all when I grew up - been in health care now for over 30 years so finding your channel has brought me back to those amazing childhood memories in my dads shop - and I thank you so much for that. Don't ever stop.
Same and I don't ever care how long they are the time flies. It's like a cool little movie of good cars everytime. I admire his patience though cause while I do work on things I'm not nearly as chill/friendly or stoked, I'm usually happy when it's done so he makes me want to work on my approach 😂
I just discovered this channel and I'm already glued in by the nonstop wit and brutal laughs! Thanks for brightening my days! Keep 'er between the ditches!
I say bring this rig around and doll it up !! Definitely a keeper and going to town rig . As always VGG never disappoints on content #1 RUclips channel in my book for sure !
I used to turn wrenches professionally until 1998 when I got burned out then switched to construction. I remember GM cars of that time period had whats called a VATS security system where there was a silver chip on the side of the ignition key. One could not simply make a hardware store copy of this special key because of this chip. The way it worked was the VATS computer would read the resistance of the chip on the key if it was wrong or non existent, the car would experience what you found on this video. Both the fuel pump and starter would be disabled; which also explains why you have a mechanical pump instead of the electric in the tank. They probably didn't know how to diagnose the VATS problem or didn't know about this security system. The common failure with the VATS system was the ignition lock cylinder has 2 wires in it which rock back and fourth with every key stroke. Over time one of the wires would break off so no crank, no fuel pump symptoms would occur. I replaced many of those in the field. Love your content by the way.
When the engine was locked I thought " oh , he's in deep trouble now" but getting it broke loose in second gear was genius. Glad you made it and I was hooked after the engine was not locked anymore! Love your channel - Thank you for all your hard work!!
A tip for when trying to break a seized engine free with a manual gearbox, you'll get the maximum torque on the engine using the highest gear (5th for a 5-speed). That engine would have probably turned with the gearbox in 5th (and clutch released) and rocking the car forwards and backwards. You want to basically get the car bouncing against the backlash in the power train. I used to work for an antique car&tractor collector in the 80's and we unseized literally 100's of engines this way.
I’m personally in awe of your ability to locate and resurrect these forgotten gems! Started this figuring I’d watch some now and finish later. Watched it all! Well done.
as an owner of a third gen f-body (firebird) the cooling fan is wired up to a switch like this because from the factory it is wired to turn on when the key is in the run position, and to turn off when the engine reaches operating temperature! I actually thought about running a switch in mine. Because the signal from the temp sensor goes through the AC head unit and my car has no AC. But instead I just jumped the signal from the temp sensor (green)(ground) directly to the fan relay. Which solved my overheating issues. My auto teacher then instructed me to tighten the pushrods until I could not spin them clamping them as tight as I could between my fingers. (as if it had solid lifters) So now there is a crack in the head or the block and there is coolant in the cylinder. It makes me very happy that you have restored some life to this one. I am a little short on money right now. But I'm never going to get rid of this car. Everybody I have ever spoken to about owning one always tells me they regret selling it. You even regret selling yours! They are not cars that are meant to die, and they should all be given a home.
Probably the most enjoyable VGG I’ve ever watched. All the best elements of the channel in a feature length episode and truly absorbing. We’ve got lots of stuff happening in the UK at the moment and this is a welcome break from all the bad news. Thanks Derek
Yup. Watching from Scotland and love it. Now when I work on my car and I'm frustrated I ask 'WWDD: What Would Derek Do?'. I still throw my tools but I try to stay calmer as I do 😂
Yes I'm sorry to hear about Boris Johnson stepping down And all the political upheaval and division and we are going through the same thing here in the USA Is praying for unity and better times
Well said, so many things stopping us having an adventure like this in the UK (MOT, tax, ANPR cameras etc) but videos like this really do brighten your day :)
Classic vice grip garage at its finest! Enjoyed every minute of the show. Appreciate you Derek for taking time away from the family to bring us these awesome episodes.
I love Derek's, 'Don't give a damn what you throw at me, I will get yer movin'' attitude. No fancy builds, no fancy tricks, just a straightforward guy bringing great motors back to life, and savin' all that quality and style from the scrapper. Respect.
I feel as if your videos are one of the few things that calm and relax me in this world. Seriously, I love your channel. I think about things you say in my daily life. Forever grateful for your content. 🤘🏼
Derek, you never ever disappoint this feller. You are an inspiration to all of us subscribers. Keep up the good work. Oh and by the way, I like the rims already on the car. Just gussy her up a bit not to fancy you know and make a good going to town rig out of her. 👌🏻
I've watched this revival at least 7 times now. I just can't get enough of a guy's content. Fun story, I bought my 92 Camaro 3 days before this aired. She's a 305 yellow with black stripes in tractor paint!
I've had my 1991 camaro since 2007, has had transmission failure since 2011 but I still drove it up until 2015 or so, cleaned it up and drove it around the neighborhood in 2020-2021, but this may motivate me to get her back on the road. More than just a "car", a major part of my life that really defined who I was in my early 20's (to this day, whenever my friends see a third gen, they think of me, the only one daily driving a car like that in our group).
I'd love to see this cleaned up and then see what needs to be done to make it a going to town rig. Fix the floors, maybe rip out the carpets to get rid of the mouse smell. I think this one should be saved. It just seems too good to let it sit in the trees
This one's such a find, I say you bring it all the way back, heals, lipstick, and a new paint job. Do her some justice and drive her A LOT. Much love buddy.
Ya know guy, this has to be one of THE best channels on RUclips...I just love it...I have yet to be disappointed by an episode...God bless you and your family.
I've threw some serious hours in on RUclips over many years and I'm glad to say this is the best channel on here by far! Thanks Derek for the entertainment, knowledge and humour. These feature length treats are just RIGHT up there 💪🏼
I think you need to keep it I'm a71 year old man from Cincinnati Ohio I watch all of your revivals and I miss my younger days 😊 when I could do that keep it up Derek my name is William Smith I like how your boys are always helping you
Ya know guy, this has to be one of THE best channels on RUclips...I just love it...I have yet to be disappointed by an episode...God bless you and your family...Thx for the show...Btw, I vote to keep those sick rear wheels...🤠
I second that and even have to admit I LOVE rewarching some of these older videos, because I know after a long day if I need a good spirited laugh Derek has the delivery that's perfect for the occasion...
Hands down one of the best content creators out there. I feel like these shows could be aired on any popular streaming platform. Really good stuff. The production quality is top notch.
This is 2 hours and it's so good it feels like 20 minutes. Excellent work all around on the revival and the editing! Thanks for all the time and hard work you put in just to entertain us.
Watching this a year after the filming, I hope that you kept this one. You got your Z28 back! I've always loved this body style of Camaro. I couldn't help but notice the smile that came over your face, when you first started to drive it away from that old barn. Totally delighted for you brother! Wish you and the family all the best.
I've been a Camaro lover since age 8. I saw my first Camaro that year and fell in love. Altogether since the age of 16 I've owned 7 in all. I drive a 02' Anniversary addition now and it runs like a dream. It's in immaculent condition with only 124k miles for a 20 years old car. Whenever I see a Camaro that hasn't been loved and cared for and in sh*t shape it just breaks my heart.
I love you and what you stand for Derek. Your respect for what has come before us, is well…..inspiring. You are a true old soul and patriot. Have loved your channel from the beginning and will continue to love it as long as you grace us with your content. Thank you, my friend.
I heard he is the voice of Darth Vader in the new upcoming Star Wars film! "Luke Skywalker!!! I'll be DIPPED!" "!!!!!Stop using all those digicals against my Death Star!!!!".. "Well I'll be DIPPED he went and blew it on up!" It's ok though because he only had to go 3.74 Parsecs to get home and used only 3.145673589 quarts of oil and 867-5309 gallons of fuel.
Thank you for another great episode. I want to see you turn this 3rd gen in to the 3rd gen that high school you would have wanted. Maybe you want to put that cammed 350 in it, maybe you just want to put a lawn mower carb on it and get 45mpg. Maybe throw some QA1 suspension on it and take it to the track. Who knows. The point is that we all get to enjoy you saving these rides and we get to dream through you and your content. You should reward that teenager you once were that had dreams for their ride with doing whatever makes you happy. From there you can enjoy it, you can pass it to one of the kids, you can sell it, or even do one of them fancy 'give aways' and get some more of those spending dollars back to throw at the next rig.
Giving a thumbs up on this video just doesn't seem enough! I love the whole idea of rescuing a car and driving it hundreds of miles home but here in the UK there are so many rules and laws that stop us having fun so thanks for sharing your adventures with us! The fact that this car was sat in a barn with a seized engine and then pretty much drove faultlessly for that distance totally bottled my mind. I hope you feel the love that we all have for you.
Hi Peter i am also in uk in scotland on west coast in county of Renfrewshire beside Paisley and glasgow theres a loophole that you can drive a vehicle thats lay in barns driveways etc you need the obvious a licence then theres 2 ways to approach it you can get a traders policy for your insurance then use as many cars as you want or when see vehicle and buy it automatically insure for lowest time possible without being obvious like say 6 months or year on car then drive home the 2nd way is get insurance on vehicle and have a friendly M.o.T centre owner doesnt need to be if you book vehicle in for an m.o.t test if your driving to place cars getting job done they call garage they say yes then on your way thats the loophole if cars booked in all u need is 3rd party insurance if cars a project cancel insurance once home as if changed mind buying car etc and if not going to mot centre call and cancel with them as longs cars not full of big rusty holes and looks ok on outside and most of all safe brakes etc all bulbs changed get bulb kits in poundland as they supply all types in 1 box for quid cant go wrong spend 2quid buy every bulb new for car then cant go wrong ALSO CHECK TYRES AS YOU CAN BE CHARGED AND CAR TOOK OFF YOU DRIVING ON DANGEROUS TYRES but thats about it tyres and sharp rusty edges 2 things dont need of rusty sharp bits take gaffa tape and tape over affected areas like rusty arches hole in sill etc so good luck peter if you decide to try ive been from west coast as far as cornwall when i bought my 92 Ford Escort RS Cosworth i travelled to ipswich in january during a snowstorm during bad recession at end of 90s it took 13hours to get to place i tried car checked it over bought it and drove home to scotland on A1 i hardly went under a 100mph as 4x4 was like being on rails only had to slow too pass snowploughs lol so wherever you are any old fords let me know escorts any shape model mk1 to mk7 estate vans etc capris cortinas any neglected cars worth saving im intrested hope this helps you brian 👈😈👉 🦶🦶💣💥💫👀
Too right Mr Lobb, the very idea of pleasures to be enjoyed in UK disappearing by the day under the suffocating imposition of "legal restrictions" imposed upon us by the CLOWNS that we continue to elect to rule over us.
I could totally feel the anxiety coming through in this episode and I am glad all turned our well. Honestly, give yourself more credit. After you broke the motor free you did an oil change, new starter, thermostat and basic man tan nance and drove 600 miles. Awesome!
Man I love this guy. My brother has a Camaro just like this one he has been restoring for 15 years. He finally got it to the point where it would pass the safety and emissions tests. Just ran across this looking for footage for a client commercial. Now I have been watching for over an hour.
Those Camaros were geared well for the highway driving. I remember my brothers would get 20+ mpg on the highway cruising at 80. Definitely strip that interior and a set of wheeels and send it. Amazing there’s no rust either. 3rd gens common rust behind the rear wheels and floors from leaking t tops. Yes they all leak! Almost Impossible to prevent leaking t tops
Bro……….don’t stop making these videos!! My son and I watch them and laugh so much my wife kicks us out the house!! Really incredible what you get out of these rigs!
I find it fascinating that you have loads of auto part stores road side. If you did this in the UK with an old car you’d struggle to get anything….. they just laugh at old cars now! Keep up the good work Derek, looking forward to watching more!
Boy that kinds stinks mean I get how everyone pushing for low pollution etc etc but the older stuff is way better easier cheaper hmm more I type this I think maybe that's why lol hey want you to spend money dang it
That's sad that people don't respect old cars, and there were a lot of cool cars in the UK that should have been preserved. The car culture in the US isn't what it used to be, but its still alive, and channels like Derek's help keep it going. We are definitely lucky to have as many car parts places as we do, even really small towns usually have one or two.
I can't lie Derek, I can't wait to have my soon to be adopted son around to watch you restore old school vehicle's. I laugh so often with your jokes and different way you makes us fellers and fillets laugh! I've been hooked since my 1st video about 2 year's ago! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Derek - this was needeed. God bless you, Jessica and the family. When people are a bit low, your videos make such a difference. You deserve every bit of success you get.
Every time i see a new 'Run and Drive' episode i turn off the phone, grab a few wobble pops and sit down for an awesome show. Please keep these coming, much love from the UK
Today was the day when trying to tighten my intake manifold, the clumsy oof that I am, I immediately dropped my socket in somewhere in between I don't know and electric make it happener. I immediately got that burst of frustration but luckily I remembered to state out loud "I'll never see that again" and I got a good chuckle out of it. And the satisfaction of saying "i'm seeing it again" after fishing it out with a magnet thingy made my day. Thanks Derek.
God bless you, Derek - when you threw that meter down, I felt that...because I've been there. And laughed my a-- off when you tried to state that it fell out of your hand.
A trick for the future cut the bottom off a cold snack and punch a 5/8" hole in the center of it to use as a restrictor in place of a thermostat and you can use windshield washer fluid in place of water wetter and the interior and carpet out of a fourth Gen swaps right into a third Gen makes a nice upgrade for the interior and 3rd Gen firebird armrests swap onto the door panels they don't delaminate like the camaro ones do
Hearing that seized motor break loose popping gear's with a tractor, is music to my heart. That's when you know she's still alive 😍 and not mechanically dis-combobulated
A feller was introduced to you by an old delivery buddy of mine and it changed my life; I'm a lone wolf traveling delivery guy in an modem but older Honda and you gave me the confidence to work on her myself, and I've learned so much since then, and even fixed a few things 🎉
One of my new favorite episodes.. The way that engine came back around amazed even me. And the Voltage meter clips were Gold... Cracked me up. For nostalgias sake, I would say this one's a definite keeper... Bring her back!... equipped the way yours was in high school, and daily her..
Well, Derick I think that once you get the interior straightened out, the wife and kids will love it,, Yup,, you definitely need a classic Camero to go with your classic square body,, :-)
This car took me back to my high school days of cruising the country roads with my buddies on a Saturday night jamming to Motley Crue, Poison, and every other 80’s/90’s rock band with a cooler of Baby Buds in the trunk. Thanks for another great video!!
Love your videos. As a auto technician myself I have great appreciation for your triage process. Quite honestly, I’m surprised that a network hasn’t offered you your own show. Keep up the great work.
Using that Massey took me back about 40 years to helping my Pops around the farm. I miss working on cars and equipment with him. He passed on 5 years ago now. Thank you for showing this. By the way, I grew up in northern Indiana.
I am so sorry for your loss! It sucks hard when your parents pass, you know it's coming, they can't be here for ever but it still sucks. My pops passed in '05 my mom in '21. I miss em everyday and I my god their cooking is sorely missed.
Reminds me of being a young fella back in the day, and went to my Pontiac dealer and sat down with the salesman and filled out my build sheet and ordered my 1985 Pontiac TA, with the T-tops of course, all black with silver star pattern wheels, watching this episode took me back to when I was 22 years young……thanks Derek….I got something in my eyes….. BTW I loved that little 305. A giant step up from my winter driver a 1967 Pontiac Firebird with the Slant 6 with overhead cams…..yup that 1967 was my winter driver, I always parked my new 1985 TA in a garage every winter and it never saw snow. I miss both those Pontiac’s.
Where was this? I see it's in Wayne County
And I’m the president of the United States
Had an 85 TA. The good ole days when a 15 second car was quick.
Ohio
Sure ok bud 😂
I know these videos are difficult for you to produce but I think I speak for all your fans when I say thank you for your hard work and sense of humor. 👍😂
It’s really cool to throw on VGG like it’s a movie. 2 hours long feels like you’re really trying to give us everything that goes along with revivals, especially since the majority of RUclips videos are shorter now. And the quality gets better and better too with every upload. It’s crazy to to see how far this channel has come. Only channel I’ve ever been a member of and the only merchandise I’ve ever absolutely needed. 🤘🤘
Ed we’d
This is exactly the type of movie that America needs 🦅
Absolutely agree with the movie sentiment.
I'd throw some A/C in it that's just me and then really fix that bad boy up and drive the snot out of it. I would like to see you fix it up right. Liking the longer format vids.
Thanks Joseph
This episode made me both happy and sad. My son Tony was born 1989. He was always a motorhead from the time he could get ahold of tools. Grandpa let him work on mowers, lawntractors, and pretty much anything else with a motor since he was 4 or 5 years old. By the time Tony was a teenager, he was repairing and "speedifying" motors of all kinds for people all over our neighborhood and beyond. I enjoy watching VGG episodes, even at times thru tears. I wish my son were still around and doing what you are doing today. I know he would be one of your biggest fans. Keep wrenching and enjoying life. Keep the videos coming. Thank you VGG!
Sry for your loss❤
God bless you ❤
I couldn't imagine what you are going through. So sorry for your loss..
Sorry for your loss. ♥♥
Sorry for your loss
I’m sorry for your loss, Mark.
Condolences, friend 🙏
Sorry to hear that :(
My condolences
wow mark that is tough. i'm glad you were with him, i'm sure it makes a difference. rip
Would love to see at least a partial resto on this one. Maybe some decent rubber, a quick paint buff, or even a full Craig's list respray. And definetly a full cleanup and renovation on the interior so you can take Jessica to town in it.
That’s about all it’s good for Chevy put the small motor with the stick shift thanks Chevy
@@GT380man -- If it's a Civic hatch, it can be tons of fun for pretty cheap. Hondas are great if you know what to look for and what to do with them.

Great to see some fellets on here .. sorry for your loss
These are brilliant. Derek is clearly a seriously intelligent guy. Love his wit, his warmth and his patience.
He's a tremendous person and a Great family man as well, always my first choice here on RUclips
This guy has got to be the Bob Ross of mechanics. Love it!
With fluffy little Camaros?

You're killing it, Derek. You're a natural at this.

@@RustyZipper lol, cool username too friend!
Quick question... does the I'll be dipped phrase derive from I'll be dipped in shit sans the expletive? I enjoy language origins
It's running like OJ Simpson hahahahaha
the look on your face when the engine fired on the first crank... PRICELESS.
you got a jewel there...spit shine, polish and buff it till it glows. and keep the rims...think they are a limited edition.
Thats def one you fix on some. Its worth it
To be honest those rims were nothing special. basic American Racing Hammer rims that were on everything in the 90's.
@@MSW-uf5zu Dead on with the rims, i had the sdame ones on my s-10 blazer. not missing the center caps.
I love this!!! But I hope the baby went back to sleep quickly 😂
I almost jumped out of my chair when the motor broke free because I was so amazed ! 😄 THEN, the motor started rite up!!!! Impressive!!
Thank you appreciate it
Do you resell the cars you find and fix or just keep them in your own barn/ garage? Thanks just curious.
I'm so glad Derek is back to doing what he does best, rescuing cars and driving them back home,
All the Karen's cry when he doesn't lol
It’s a niche!
The best is part is when he has tons of break downs on the said trips.
I hope this video has a ton of sketchiness.
Roadkilling it
I love that he does a little bit of everything. I watch anything he puts out. As I’ve already seen all of videos. Most of them twice.
Derek is a great story teller. I can see him doing a history channel show about the old west.
Full restore, fully redo the body to mint and new interior and have a very nice going to town date night rig.
I agree 👍, wish I had all 5 of my Camaro's back to restore, well at least one of them 😃. Had 2-68's, 1-69, 1-70, and 1-74 year models.
How much do you think that would cost?
@@NLINE7 oh man, you would have the first 3 generation camaros, if you combined them, or just have all 5, oh to dream...
I would want something a little better to start with... Like all stock... So you have the A/C and heat...
Spend a good 15 to 20 grand to have a car that's worth 12.
Bring her all the way back around. Wheels and tires, freshen up the interior, fix the ignition so it starts in the car etc etc.

These Years of Camaro Get Great Gas mileage im finding out. Between it being 305 & Good Aerodynamics it seems.
Mines Been parked for 12 years.
@OcRefrigeration
I had a ‘90 Iroc 305 and it got decent mileage. My ‘98 T/A with the LS1 gets damn near 19 mpg around town if I keep my foot out of it.
My favorite line:
“I don’t know…”
Wonder if that’s how he handled the kids when they all went through the “why dad?” stage in their lives!!!
Bring it around as a going to town rig. Keep the engine and trans. This is one to pass down to the kids, with a great story about their dad.
THE LITTLE HUMANS HAVE THERE OWN TRUCKS
@@tammylott921 Yep. But this could be a car they all wrench on together, and do plenty of burn-outs.
This is why I watch this show. Fixin' cars and driving them home to great music.
Brilliant stuff Derek, we learn a lot from you.
I REALLY LIKE WATCHING DERECK ,, I JUST DON'T LIKE THE WAY HE ACTS STUPID
I have been addicted to these barn find videos just can't stop watching them
Same and I don't ever care how long they are the time flies.
Why didn't you put a dozen washers under the hood to jack the back of the hood up and let heat out of the engine bay?
In the time I've been watching VGG videos I can't ever recall on a "Will it RUN" video where Derek was passing numerous vehicles on the highway.
Yes he passed alot, couldn't pass the Greyhound Bus
I thought the same...Hell Ive seen him gettin pass'd by rigs like hes draggin a boat anchor
Same.
I know it was weird seeing him passing vehicles for once!!!
I love how Derek legitimately got startled by the start up. Absolutely did not expect that as did I 😆
Then that spray can in the back seat when he gave it the beans on the first drive out. Haha that was 👍
Ya he scared me I jumped a little
'Just a tickle
Been watching since 1st video. I click when I'm depressed. Works Everytime. Thank you Derek.
“It’s been to Walmart a lot” I would expect no more from a 3rd gen. Beautiful car!
Dude, EXACTLY!! lol!
No shit
my favorite line from him on this episode lol
It might have been to Kmart a couple of times even
When there's a new VGG video every week, it really does put such a happy smile on my face, keep going Derek!
I'm the same way. I check RUclips daily for a new video 😁

It's probably against the law there too. lol
Hi Peter i am also in uk in scotland on west coast in county of Renfrewshire beside Paisley and glasgow theres a loophole that you can drive a vehicle thats lay in barns driveways etc you need the obvious a licence then theres 2 ways to approach it you can get a traders policy for your insurance then use as many cars as you want or when see vehicle and buy it automatically insure for lowest time possible without being obvious like say 6 months or year on car then drive home the 2nd way is get insurance on vehicle and have a friendly M.o.T centre owner doesnt need to be if you book vehicle in for an m.o.t test if your driving to place cars getting job done they call garage they say yes then on your way thats the loophole if cars booked in all u need is 3rd party insurance if cars a project cancel insurance once home as if changed mind buying car etc and if not going to mot centre call and cancel with them as longs cars not full of big rusty holes and looks ok on outside and most of all safe brakes etc all bulbs changed get bulb kits in poundland as they supply all types in 1 box for quid cant go wrong spend 2quid buy every bulb new for car then cant go wrong ALSO CHECK TYRES AS YOU CAN BE CHARGED AND CAR TOOK OFF YOU DRIVING ON DANGEROUS TYRES but thats about it tyres and sharp rusty edges 2 things dont need of rusty sharp bits take gaffa tape and tape over affected areas like rusty arches hole in sill etc so good luck peter if you decide to try ive been from west coast as far as cornwall when i bought my 92 Ford Escort RS Cosworth i travelled to ipswich in january during a snowstorm during bad recession at end of 90s it took 13hours to get to place i tried car checked it over bought it and drove home to scotland on A1 i hardly went under a 100mph as 4x4 was like being on rails only had to slow too pass snowploughs lol so wherever you are any old fords let me know escorts any shape model mk1 to mk7 estate vans etc capris cortinas any neglected cars worth saving im intrested hope this helps you brian 👈😈👉

Too right Mr Lobb, the very idea of pleasures to be enjoyed in UK disappearing by the day under the suffocating imposition of "legal restrictions" imposed upon us by the CLOWNS that we continue to elect to rule over us.
@Matthew I am jealous of all the space you guys have over there and all the cool cars! :)
This car needs a proper revival! Interior, paint, factory wheels. These cars are appreciating in value and I'm glad to see another one that will live.
A fella just can’t help himself. I watch every second of these here videos and just love ‘em. Thank you for the content Derek!
Since you asked. I'd love to see much more of this Camaro. Your resurrection and drive home videos are by FAR my favorite videos you make.
Most definitely do a video of you and Jessica giving that car a complete detail right to the tens.
The Bob Ross of auto mechanics! Love our restorations, Derek!

When the 80's call and want their Camero back, Derek is who they call to get it done.
I say recreate your high school car with it.
Finally this is why I started watching VGG. I love watching him go out and get cars running and drive them home
Derek, your vivid description of the smell of these vehicles is the best. I laugh so hard I usually cry. Thanks!
This is the first time I've seen Derek passing cars in the timelapse instead of being passed by everything!
Yeah, I thought exactly the same 😀
I totally agree with no problems from a car that had a seized engine gotta love it great episode ‼️💯

Was going to say too, only a year too late
Brantley should snag that one up for his first ride, maybe by the time he gets old enough to drive it to school the smell may b gone lol
He actually does have a show called Roadworthy Rescues on motor trend
Using that Massey took me back about 40 years to helping my Pops around the farm. I miss working on cars and equipment with him. He passed on 5 years ago now. Thank you for showing this. By the way, I grew up in northern Indiana.
I am so sorry for your loss! It sucks hard when your parents pass, you know it's coming, they can't be here for ever but it still sucks. My pops passed in '05 my mom in '21. I miss em everyday and I my god their cooking is sorely missed.
You're going above and beyond for our free entertainment, brother 💪🏻🇺🇸👊🏼
I'd love to see you bring this one fully back to it's former glory. Would be a really sharp going to town rig that'd be turnin' heads like an owl.
