Hey Larry and Dino. please get in touch. Just last week I saw possibly the rarest GTR R34 that exists. An Omori san build. It is one of one made. It is in Australia at a paint & panel shop. My Alfa is in the same shop for a makeover. I have photos of the Omori GTR. It is simply stunning. Jayson
Let's be honest, the real reason all these cars have become so unattainablly expensive is because a few private companies bought a majority of them creating a monopoly. Simple supply and demand. When a few companies hold a majority of the cars, they can charge whatever they want. Shady business practices by shady people.
Team Free Spirit, some Facebook groups, and Reddit folks come together to make sure that nobody gets finessed with their purchases. Being former military, a good number of folks get duped when they get stationed in Japan. That said, I wonder how the prices will look once the R34s become legal to own in the states or the economy crashes. I suspect that regardless there will be a huge price dump, like stocks this is all merely speculation.
I’ve said this from day one a bunch of greedy individuals and the sad part is the same thing is happening at dealerships with ridiculous prices over msrp.

Love the top comment. Car enthusiasts in Japan are very sad these cars are being removed by these companies who could care less about Japan or the cars.
If you're considering buying, I encourage you to travel to Japan and search for one.. please do not use Top Rank as they are buying up these cars and charging whatever they want for them.
Seeing all of those r34s in a warehouse owned by these guys is the saddest thing and if you give them your money, you are supporting this.
This video highlights to depressing reality of being an enthusiast of JDM performance cars. Makes me appreciate that manufacturers are trying to get enthusiasts excited about current offerings like the BRZ/86, Civic Si/Type-R, GR Corolla, GR Supra, Z... even when dealerships are price gouging. I have a manual 2018 WRX and though it's no GT-R, when I drive it I feel like the kid I was when I played Gran Turismo on weekends. With the way that prices are, my next fun car might be something like a Corolla Apex, or perhaps a JDM offering that isn't highly sought after... : P
Only 5 - 7 years ago the whole point of owning a JDM car was because you could gap a Ferrari, Porsche and even Lambo on a budget. Nowadays you gotta pay Ferrari prices for a dream JDM car, I cant believe it.
So so cool! But it's very disappointing to be seeing companies such as Toprank take advantage of the market and, in turn, pricing out many jdm lovers to never be able to own their dream car 😞

The worst thing is.... If the car get in an accident(which will depreciate).....engine blows under boost load(im aware that Nissan decided to make parts for them,but i dont think engine's),or worst its gets stolen..... For the price,there're too many variables for things to go wrong...

I was called a hater when I voiced a complaint about people giving top rank their business… r32 GTR’s used to cost $7-$12,000 usd… r33 $13,500-$20k and the icon r34 was $25-40k and maybe high 50s to low 60s for special versions with no miles on them in mint shape. The freaking Honda beat used to be $900-$3500 usd, Evo 4,5,6 were 7k!!!! with each car that top rank sold, it allowed them to go back and buy 2 if not 3 of the same model…. Fast forward a few years and this is what happens. They are pirates. 😤
This is also one reason why the prices of these cars skyrockets overseas. They are just sitting
They're already sold. If they weren't sold to US buyers, they would all be bought up in the middle east and UAE.

@@connoisseuroftigolbitts You're talking about a Japanese sports car from 30 years ago, no shit it's not going to be very fast stock. Most people don't buy the cars to keep them stock, especially if they've got an RB26DETT in them.
Larry, I was considering buying one around 2017 when I retired from the military... at the time and close before Covid, an R32 in decent condition topped $30k, now they want double that. I understand the shipping issues, but the mark up now is just because of the monopoly in place by a few companies, so there is no way that an average enthusiast will be able to import one anytime soon unless he goes to Japan, buys it and imports it himself. And at the price they are selling here in the US, it will surely be the cheapest route.

This place is absolutely incredible!! Grew up with American cars but discovering and loving cars from around the world is what gives me the greatest joy and passion in my life!! Collecting miniature versions allows me to have a "piece" of the real thing!!!

If you're in the market for a JDM car ALWAYS go look at it with someone that you can trust who knows the problem areas of the car. I bought my GT-R from Toprank and it's a great car now, but I wish I would've known some more things before I bought it.

Originally back in the 2000s you want to import a JDM WRX or Silvia because they were cheap and even R32 GTRs weren't that expensive used. Now it's ridiculous how expensive they are just as a trophy car. They're no longer bargain performance.

I've had so many s30s and I want them all back! Currently building a 76 turbo running on a z32 ecu and Nistune.
For reference, all Hakosukas came with "2000GT" on the center console. Even the GTRs. So, that one is all original.
That's my number 1 car after my s30 is done.

Miss my black 1998 Kooike S14 with original 85k miles original interior gray cloth excellent condition. 10 in wide tires and wheels in the back nines in the front and they fit under perfectly lots of offset with the toyo r888s, all heim joint suspension not too low just right for the street drove smooth but stuck like glue in the corners.
The Stagea requires a full radiator support swap and the guards to be rewelded with the R34 fender front half in order to work properly. Have just finished feature photos and video's on a friends 313KW RB25DET R34 swapped Stagea.

Please do not blame the game Gran Tursimo, it's because of 2Fast 2Furious and then rich people who are also car enthusiasts, ironically most of them are in California riding the tech boom. The only way for these cars to depreciate is by looking at cars better than R34. You can obtain a Ferrari 360 Spider or similar for around $65000 or more now and you'll get the status of having a ferrari and connections associated with Ferrari owners.
Seen a few R34s in Canada. We have 15 years import rules so we get to enjoy these cars earlier than thd US.

Yeah I'm not convinced these vehicles will keep climbing. I've been watching the auctions in Japan for several years. Yes over covid JDM vehicles climbed considerably. But in my country so did boats and many other things because people weren't traveling and looking at other things to sink money into.. The auctions in Japan are still full of these cars and recently many are not selling. I heard of one that sold zero vehicles in one auction day. Several hundred cars and not one hit reserve. If this continues prices will begin to drop. I've heard buyers in Japan even predicting a crash in JDM vehicles. There are many companies in Japan that have been buying these vehicles using finance and now struggling to sell them. I would hold off for 12 months and wait and see what happens.
The economy is in a downward spiral and inflation continues to rise. It’s only a matter of time many people will be in a unfortunate situation where they are forced to liquidate hobbies and all toys just to pay rent and buy food, that’s when the car and housing market will see a disastrous collapse. Many people are still blowing their money on things, they’ve yet to understand where everything is going. Most just want to close their ears and pretend everything will be fine.

i hate that the prices are too high for us to afford them. these were our dream cars since fast and furious and nfs underground came out. There were M Spec cars going for $85k maybe like 3 years ago. Very displeased with the market.

I think Top Rank is great, but it is hoarding like this that is contributing to the overpriced market. 2018 there were plenty of Skylines for sale, now in 2022 you barely see any and when you do they are wildly priced. It's a false scarcity caused by people holding onto their private cars and speculators snapping up the ones that that do go up for sale.

In the UK low emmision zones are extending in London / being introduced to new cities. The charge will be £12.00 per day for these JDM cars due to
Emmisions. If this rolls out globally these cars will be as popular as old V8s that no one can afford to run 😮

It kills me that I have been dreaming of owning an Evo 5 since 2001 and kept seeing the prices 10-15 years ago around 10-15k. Now are probably going to go for 35-40k and I can't justify that ugh.
I have a yellow Evo V here in Australia. I love it but don't drive it much. Does 100kms a year. Shame really. Has low kms too.

They are both in Japan and these two young men are fascinating insightful, drifters on the track and they both dabble in importing cars to the US. These two are very good friends and they do a lot of video collaboration together yet they have their own RUclips channel. Between you and I Larry Kota reminds me of a 22 year old Akira Nakai . There share a quit intelligence aura and certainly are humble yet artistic abilities. Anyway thanks for listening Larry and I do love your channel; your photographs are outstanding and when you do interviews it’s right up there with PBS compelling questions and the insight you give us viewers. I own a bnr32 and it's my dream car. I mean honestly, theres nothing else I want more then the one i specifically own. I love fds and r35 gtrs, and I know how much faster a r35 is compared to mine. But that's okay to me. My point is though, is that these cars are becoming ridiculous to own. Prices for parts are so expensive that through out this engine rebuild, I've consistently had points where I'm willing to just sell it because how am I gonna be able to continue affording this and not cheaping out? Track days will be scarier than normal because what if the engine goes again? Rb26s in fair condition go for 10 to 12k usd. That's just insane. Its gross honestly. More than anything it's sad. And no top rank is definitely not to blame. They aren't the entire market. It's just hard trying to enjoy your car to the fullest when the prices become unbearable, and you know for a fact that you didn't buy a Ferrari lmao

Unfortunately where I live cyprus part of the EU has a law that cars from Japan cannot be less than 5yrs old, so jdm cars bought back in the day have skyrocketed in price here.

When I was stationed in Japan they had the body kits they sold for the Stagea to R34 front end swap. So it wasn't uncommon to see them. I was in Japan from 1996 to almost 2006

Also, the Stagea is based on the Laurel chassis, not the Skyline chassis. @Dino @Larry
It is based on both the Skyline and Laurel chassis, but closer to the R33 chassis. Look at the strut tops, they look almost identical to an R33s.

Honestly I would the take the silver 1969 model hehheh. IMO the first fast and the furious started the craze and pricing, not grand Turismo :)
I have to debate on that. Probably in the U.S yes but other countries might differ. During our time the craze was from hot version, best motoring, ozzie builds RB28, RB30 and that was way way before fast and furious.
