That valuable Superbird is actually worth a complete restoration. As close to factory specs as possible. Maximum effort that won’t be wasted (for once). You guys are the one to do it.❤
Good call 😅 I can’t say that I would choose a wing over a regular Charger or Roadrunner… but there is absolutely something special and exciting about them.
That's truly amazing! Tom is certainly one lucky fellow to have found such a rare bird and to have help like you Jamie. Blows my mind to think my Dad could have bought a B5 Blue Superbird 440 A/T in 1970 that was sitting next to the Sport Satellite convertible he wound up buying. I tried to convince him to buy it. Heck, even my mom liked it. 😂
Teamwork makes the dream work! Glad to see the car up and running again! Thank you for the serious inspiration; my friend Stephen Hotz @Just Dive it delivered a ‘70 Sport Satellite to me about a month ago that he saved from a junkyard in Texas. It is getting the Superbird conversion treatment. 😎 I’m saving up my pennies now for the conversion kit… 😬 And guess what color I’m going to paint it? The Alpine White… 😃😎
My uncle had one of these when he was young up here in Winnipeg. He had about 200 tickets his first year because the police did not accept the nose bumper as a bumper and gave him tickets for missing a front bumper. He got so fed up, sold the car and then got his current 71 Plum Crazy RT Challenger instead.
funny story, back in the day when big block mopars were just another used car and a pistol grip shifter was just a long throw slow shifting pain in the azz, the first thing i did with every pistol shifter car i got was to cut the shifter down to make a shorty quick shifter out of them, who knew that the pistol grip shifter was going to become a big deal some day, then again who knew that an all original pristine 68 B5 blue superbee that i paid $600 for and sold later for a grand would be worth over $100k someday.....
It takes years, and tons and tons of money. I’ve gone over some of the fine engine hardware details on video before. Going over the whole car… man, that would be tough.
I miss my 69 GTX. I have a 70, but you were right about the de-content. I don't like the plastic on the dash compared to the cushioned vinyl on the 69. I wonder if the 69 parts are a direct bolt on and how I can get some if they are. I have the same steering wheel as the one on the Superbird. The best thing I can say about it is that it is big enough for a car with manual steering. But I think it is too big for comfort and visibility. And the center doesn't stay in place.. they always seem to be loose. I put a factory can for flat face Mopar wheel and I alternate between a rim blow, a 73 Cuda wheel, and a Tuff wheel. I have to swap out the Tuff wheel to push the car with the engine off since it would pull the rubber off the steering wheel. The most of the aftermarket Tuff Wheel look alikes are made of much harder foam, so you could probably put a lot more force on them.
I was a sophomore in high school when these cars came out and of course the hemi was way before that but they were nothing but a pain to daily drive because the tune would never stay from one day to the next and that made them very undesirable in the day. I personally knew several friends whose family and fathers actually hated them but that’s my experience and yours maybe different.
I have heard that with respect to Hemis, and specifically their adjustable rockers. I haven’t heard the same about 440s. In fact, many, many people laud the 440 as the wiser, more reliable choice.
One of your best videos, but I’m fairly new here. Next Superbird video; laps at Taladaga! I know nothing of Superbirds; I assume they came with positraction rear ends?
Thank you! I think it’s a damn good one. I’m not banking on hitting the super speedway any time soon… this one does have limited slip (Suregrip, as Chrysler called it,) but I don’t know if they all did or not.
Hey Jamie, Get yourself a couple of those cheap pain brushes they sell at Walmart. Spray the cleaner of your choice on the textured surfaces and give them a light scrub with the paint brush, then wipe it off. Works a treat.
There is actually a good tip to fixing those circuit boards especially if you still "have" the pins. It worked great for my dusters cluster with the circular set of connection pins
@mopargirl...real 15 inch trim rings are super expensive especially if clean. If your 15s are the later 6.5 inch wide ones I found that late 70s Oldsmobile trim rings look and fit great without a big gap.

Actually, this video is a perfect one for me to ask another annoying question regarding mopars, yay ^_^ Are the Rallye clusters interchangeable with the standard ones?
Negative - you need the Rallye specific dash frame, all of the other Rallye specific fixtures, and the matching dash harness. People have converted the one to be the other, but it’s a pretty serious job.
Ahhhh, the WRX sheds some light on your motivations for the turbo slant build. Side note, I want to build a 318 turbo for my D150. I know it makes zero financial sense to do correctly but theoretically it should get better gas mileage than a 360 and will piss of the 318 haters on FABO.
So funny story.... I bought a 74 Charger on Friday after work, Git it cleaned up and running, threw my plates on it and took it work yesterday, I was showing to a couple of the other guys at when the boss walked up leans under the hood and says "Damn this car is going to look real nice cruising in Hawaii" and just looked at him like what? At lunch he come and sat down and said "I guess noone's called you yet? The company wants to transfer you to the Hawaii site to run floor operations out there as of Januarary 1st, they were supposed to call you Friday and ask you to take it." So...
