Unreal. A 1964 390 genuine manual Galaxie sitting in a junkyard that just needed a little wrenching and a few parts to get rolling. What an awesome find and I’m so surprised just how well that thing runs having been sitting for 40 friggin’ years!! Amazing!! Too bad it only lasted a few hours, lol. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I picked up a 59 Cadillac, not used in 10 years , got it running, but later on the way home a fire started in the alternator, i had a towel and a water bottle , 😂 disconected the alternator with brute force and drove home , the car died 2 meter from my garage ❤
I had a '64 in high school. Dynasty Green with matching interior. It was a main street California cruiser with just a 352, and automatic. Galaxie 500 XL . Yes, it was new...and I am old !!
I've only had luck with blue devil head gasket sealer, follow the directions EXACTLY, and it actually might work, it even lasted 7 months before I sold the car in the summer running ac in traffic and everything lol. Worth the money.

My dad bought a 1965 Galaxie in 1967. It had the 390 4 speed and was the family car up until 1995 when I bought it from my dad for a dollar bet. He bet me that I could not get it running and driving. I won the bet and he sold it. The thing was, I had to drive it from California to Washington state, That was the worst time I ever had, It never broke down, But the gas stops were agonizing. 13 mpg provided I kept my foot off the pedal.
If you loose an intake pushrod, that cylinder will start pumping oil into the chambers and out the exhaust creating that exhaust smoke you guys were experiencing. Just replacing that pushrod (or removing the corresponding exhaust) will stop that smoke. You probably did not have to change that motor.
Ford definitely made some hard-headed engines back in the day. Goes to show that their 1960s V8 engines are very resilient against moisture, heat, and being dormant for decades.
@@marylandsteve5441 i. Disagree. Most of them are low compression dogs . I have never been. Impressed by one in stock form . But a stock 390 or even a stock 352 will put you in your seat .

I took an engine that had all the machine shop work done to a really good shop to make sure it was done correctly before putting it in a car. This is a numbers matching engine. Turns out the machine shop that first did work did a lousy job. It would have run but not as well as it should have. They didn't even deck the block. Heads were not done well, never again.
What about an episode where you find a newer junkyard car, like a 2002 ford expedition or a 98 Chevy 1500 but you can only get it running using parts from the junkyard you find the car.
