Jumping on the VGG bandwagon.
Good stuff Freiburger.
VGG is my favourite channel at the minute
Dave C is always helping guys on other shows dudes a hustler and good friend
Yes! More Dave Chappelle!
That's good Roadkill...
Your Pontiac should be called "Dirt Reynolds"
Mortske repair already has that name
That name is already taken
My dad bought a ‘78 305 firebird for $200 in the mid 90’s and they took it “mudding” and his friends named it the Mud Bird
I already used that gag with Mortske Repair for HIS Disco Trans Am! And the name stuck!
@@__no.bags_ We used to buy beaters for 3-400 late 80s, take them to Adelanto ,Ca desert with a cam corder and derby them til they could go no more...then left.
😂😂I was half expecting to see Clayton Bigsby ranting about engines...
Uhhhh, really? Dave’s not here.
@@demiller74 open up man I got the stuff
THATS RIGHT!
I don’t drive no black trans am . Only the white ones work.
I don’t drive no black cars. The white one works
The 1980 Trans Am Indy Pace car was my first car. I was 15. Absolutely minimum power, but with that WS-6 package it would turn on a dime.
Johnny Rutherfords 80 trans am that he got for winning the 500 was sold at auction in my town back in the early spring. It had 2600 original miles and sold for $80,000
Those cars were all about looks, no denying it. Still dig those today
Mine was a '77 SE with 50,000 miles. Over the next 5 years, I owned 4 more 2nd gen T/As, but that 77 was the fastest. My favorite though was my 79. No T-tops, 403 Olds engine, nothing special really, but totally reliable and handled like a dream. I really miss those cars, man. They seemed faster than they were. And for their time, they actually were pretty fast compared to other cars of the same era.
Any car is a high performance car on wet grass! That looked like so much fun.
My buddy had a TA with the 6.6? I don't remember the year, but it was around this body style.
The big motor didn't matter because it barely ran anyway. 😅
He thought it would be funny to drive through someone's yard IN THE RAIN.
We almost got stuck, and then it almost stalled when we finally got back on pavement. And that would have been bad, because we had to push it, to get it started. 😮
I still have my 81 Turbo T/A as well as my childhood favorite 1971 Javelin AMX! im soooo glad I never sold them since I was in High school.
me too man i still have my 72 lemans sport convertible from high school and im never going to sell it
@@atom_________6815 Awesome! I just love the responses when I pull up to cruise night in the AMX and people mistake it for a Mustang! haha enjoy man we only have one life!
Nice! Bought a 71 sst401 late 80s my 2nd car ever. $400 ran perfect.
White bucket interior tons of torque. First car that had any my 327s sure didnt
The Rotsun found it's long lost American cousin
This deserves more likes
The Rockford 180 and everything!
So happy to see Roadkill is still going! Great episode guys!
This makes me miss my Trans-Am. I've always regretted selling that one.
Miss my '87 Trans Am GTA... stolen back in April...

Me too. 79 with the olds 403.
@@Mike-h1q9j Me also. '79 with the Olds 403. No T-tops. Gold exterior and cloth interior. Nothing fancy, but I loved that car. Completely reliable and plenty of torque. Paid it off over 36 months and traded it in on a used '80 Corvette. Worst mistake of my life. I hated that Vette. No interior space, uncomfortable to drive. Sold that one quick. I've wanted that T/A back ever since. Still have dreams about getting it back again.
The Looks of that Car still catches today....owned a Firebird Formular Long Time ago
Had an 81 turbo! Boost lights on the scoop made it extra fast
Stepmom had a couple Starions in the 80s with those
What is with the super long waits for new episodes on Discovery+? I have loved Motor Trend Channel for almost a decade and eagerly await new season of Hot Rod Garage and Faster as well as new episodes of Roadkill and Roadkill Garage. Love you guys!
The pure joy on Dave’s face at the very end. I know that feeling.
If you's let Dave touch it anymore, you'll find it the next morning with a lift and all terrain tires! xD hahaha
Frieburger and those dam flip flops 😂, love it bro
It's amazing he still has 10 toes
@@gregoryballestero4369 How many are prosthetics
I personally think a hoodie, shorts and flipflops to be the epitome of douchiness.
One of my many car regrets is not buying a new 78 gold/t-top firebird formula. It had a $6200ish window sticker.....
Love the gold ones
Yep, that price sounds about right for the time.
I love Dave. I love Finnegan too. I'm jut not mad at all for seeing Dave for a change. Go Dave!
The way that little Corgi looked away upon hearing the words, "Turbo 4.9" made me want a Corgi.
My HS car was an 80 Turbo TA. Was wise enough never to race anyone but it sure did get the chicks.
Put a big ole smile on my face...thanks guys!
Great show! I had one of these when it was new in 1980, some good times were had by one and all in that TA!
“Let’s go to Derek’s and trade this for something” 😂😂😂
I think Dave has been there before. I love that Chevy exhaust on a Pontiac
I was expecting Dave Chappelle xD
Y'all started out right by exit 24 off of i24 I used to live there when I worked for a sportsman racing team. Lots of car people around there
VGG is a national treasure.
Best thing about this episode was Vice Grip Gardens!
Huge Dave C fan here! Very fun episode!
Dude the flip flops!!!! 🤣🤣
Derick is the best, love that guy 😊
Really shows how old this episode is, considering Finnegan's leg is fine now.
Its on here, so not surprising ahahah
It's not that old of an episode. It was released on discovery early June. So even when I watched it on discovery Mike was already off crutches for a while. There's only 2 episodes that have released since this one. And one of those was released 7/29.
Well they wanted to get to Radwood in florida. I see on their website that there was one in Florida on March 2nd 2024 so my best guess is that this was filmed in late February 2024. It also lines up with February being a good time to snowboard and Fin breaking his leg.
This trio should definitely get together more often!👍
Im 48yrs old and through out all my cars ive ever owned my 1979 gray T/A with T-tops and the 403 was my favorite car. My dream car would be a 79 or 80 T/A with T-tops with a pro-mod build
I like what Derek said! Where do I send the invoice?
Bought a 80 turbo TA in 1996 w/4K miles for $1200. Bent frame. 98% mint. Besides banana frame.
I could have bought a '79 TA Turbo in 1984. The guy wanted $6500 for it with 55K on it.
@@iamgermane Back then you could buy a nice 69 Z28 for about 8k
I love my blk/gld 81 Turbo TA…
Runs like a champ!
Wonder about putting a modern turbo on one...how it might run
@@gordocarbo Not an easy mod. Plus, the aftermarket has sorted out the performance of the 301 turbo now. The big issue back then was gas. Modern gas is a boon to these cars.
Gonna be doing this with my grandad soon with a monte carlo ss around the same year and body style🔥
Any time I see Dave, it's an automatic watch. Dude is epic.
“Who needs EFI when you got a quadra jet, that’s my new turbo go to” 😂
I would have bet the drivers side front leaf spring mount was going to come through the floor in this episode. Too bad about the black '78 as that one had an L78/W-72 T/A 6.6 motor .
Yep, what a shame.
L78? Shame these cars are so old its hard to tell how rusty they are under the lipstick
That thing deserves to be cool with lots of horsepower
Am I the only one who went 😮 when he called Dave “Dirtbag Dave”? Dirt head vs dirt bag 😂 Dang fry hot dog, brutal. All said with love, one of my favorite car shows.
That is why the seats are not bolted down. Some of the pace cars came with Recaro seats
More Dave Chapelle !!
Best day at work ever!
Big Green moment right there, off roading towards the end.
The whole front flexed when they moved it for the 1st time... wow
My parents purchased a new black 1980 ta 301 turbo ,the car road nice ,had no power and when you had to stop it would spin out of control,360 ° no problem!
It's great you've gone back to putting partial episodes back on RUclips, but can those of us in the UK PLEASE, PLEASE have a way of getting the full episodes? Pretty Please? With a cherry bomb exhaust on top?
Glad you picked the turbo car later dude's
The level of Rust on this car is what all the F bodies looked like by the mid-late 80’s where I live. The black car would be considered in great shape here, not “stored underwater”😁
In ca that would be called rusted out, junk. Other states it would be called "solid". lol
The trick is Universal Tractor Transmission Fluid. Roadkill should really pick up on it by now.
That 78 trans am just needed a tune up, plugs, wires and a car wash . Lol
1980 Firebird Trans AM...I'm so freakin jelly...
Dude yall just found my dream car
I don't know if the comedian is into hot rods, but I would love to see a Dave Chappelle Special!
I’m born in 1980, and in my mind, the 1977 is the only Trans-Am that matters. Because Smokey and the Bandit.
I owned a 77 Fire bird V6. It was cool looking but slow
Yeah buddy 👍😂 my old man purchased a 78 new Gold edition.. when he dropped me off in front of my junior high school the kids all freaked out 😮 it was epic
The 77s were slow, slow, slow. So dam slow you timed them in the quarter mile with a calendar. The only good years were pre 1972 and even then 71 HO 455ci engines only put out a pitiful 335hp.
There is a legitimate reason they were all called tuna boats with screaming chickens driving them. IE because they were slow as a fishing boat and the alway losing driver cried like dying poultry.
1973 super duty 455 was literally the last of the big horsepower muscle cars with legit power.
You should read about the the super duty cars built with "leftover" pre emissions parts until early 1974
Dave Chappelle is an awesome dude, and a great fabricator.
I believe this was the first Pony car to receive a turbo, beating out the Fox Body SVO or whatever it was called and the Pace Car Trans Am with the Grand National engine.
Actually the 1962 Oldsmobile Jetfire was the first car to have a turbo
@@rogerf7265 - But not a pony car...
@@buzzwaldron6195 it may not have been called a pony car but that's essentially what it was. A lightweight car with a turbo v8
@@rogerf7265 - It was called a senior compact economy car... cute little bugger... Olds jazzed it up with a turbo in its 2nd year... my daily driver in 1960's was a '62 Jetfire metallic garnet mist red, white top, two tone red interior, automatic to start and then 3 speed manual...
ruclips.net/video/Jzw5W1rRMog/видео.html
@@rogerf7265 The fact is had early meth/water injection back then was super cool
Love to find 1981 Trans Am
Dang, I'd actually love to have this. If you spent a small fortune on it you could have an almost decent car
I love these cars. I'd take one in this condition, no regrets.
awesome episode!!!!!!
Here for VGG!
Respect the PONTIAC
That was not the Dave Chappelle I was looking for. 😂😂😂
Being older now I see why I always got hollered at for spinning up the field
Dave for the win!
I love that Trans am . I wish they ware available for sale in my country :(
I own the white 80 4.9 turdo t top car. When i was done with it it was running a 454 th400 and Bandit 77 front clip swap.
The guy who owned the mini golf place near my grandparents summer home had a turbo in like 1983. I would get dropped off with $20 and spend an hour asking questions about the car.
Like to see Dave on the show
I thought the 403 Olds in these things was the "weaker" engine? I was 16 when these things came out and have always wanted one, even though I'm a "Ford" guy... ha, ha... I remember seeing a 1979 TA on the dealers lot in 1980 and it was still brand new, had the 403 in it, but it also had the 4 speed! No T-tops. I so wanted that car... But only making $3.50 an hour working at Sizzler at the time was not going to happen!
When the 1980 "Turbo" came out, I was out as well.... No Bueno.
403 olds was automatic only. Pontiac 400 with 4spd
They were turds for sure. Only made for some low end tq that was it
@@snakeyhedger Buddy in HS mid 80s had a 403 TA 4 spd. Looked original but who knows
Man i wish i knew you were coming to TN, we aren't real far from Vice Grip Garage home base
Mr Freiburger, I believe you misspoke about the engine. The Pontiac 400 is a far better choice for performance than the Oldsmobile 403. 200HP(in 1977) and 220HP(in 1978/79) Pontiac 400 engines had T/A 6.6 on the shaker. The base 180HP Pontiac 400 and Olds 403 had 6.6 Litre on the shaker.
Many automatic transmission equipped T/As from 1977-79 had the Olds 403 engine. If you're lucky you may find one with the Pontiac engine. I believe there were 3 engines available in 1978.
The W72 400 with 220 HP/320 lb/ft of torque.
The L78 400 with 180 HP.
The L80 403 Olds with 185 HP.
The 400's had a Vin code of Z while the 403 had the K vin code.
Those 403 were horrid.
Dave C... wake up motor trend
That front bumper has a smile, or at least a creepy grin
Thanks!!
Bring back Dave, and Fred
Thought there was gonna be jokes.. wrong Dave 😢 😂
Time to bring back Dirt Every Day
I was thinking black comedian Dave Chappell. This guy is good too though.
gets me every time lol
Me too 😂
I was like no way the comedian is on this show , I gotta see this! lol not but still interesting episode lol
Bring Dave back!!!!!
Love Dave
thats a keeper
Welcome to eastern USA, tons of rust unlike the dry southwest
Seriously do an Engine Masters on this engine. How much power can you get out of a stock turbo 4.9, what would it take to get 500 hp?
Sadly Steve Brule retired so they aren’t planning on doing any more Engine Masters. It would be cool for them to bring it back with Richard Holdener
@@mikegillam1000 my 1980s inner child has wanted that build since Dodge released that Hellcat Ricky Bobby commercial a couple years ago.
There is a couple 301 Turbo cars running low 12s and one in the high 11s out west.
@@mikegillam1000 SAd...steve is a master tuner...he deserves retirement though read about him in mag articles since I was a teenager.
Should let Derick from Vice grip garage take on the black 78 TA.
After the Shenanigans at the end I kind of want the TA or at least see more of
Dang, I missed the bowtie on the exhaust the first time I watched this. Makes sense.
My favorite firebird is the 1970.
So, is motortrend on demand just gone now? Just basically cable TV availability?
I want that car! 😂
Thanks
If I'm not mistaken the automatic came with the 403 and the manual had the 400.
In 1978, you still could get the 220 hp 400 in an automatic, in 1979 the 400 was 4 speed only.
The oldslowmobile 403 is the low HP engine. They were super weak, in stock form either way. I do t believe they were installed until 79 though. In 79 the 403 was the standard or special order a left over 78 400.
