    My daughter is a natural at hula hooping and I’ve been struggling so much with this weighted hoop. I always wondered how she’s able to keep the hoop up without much waist movement, but it’s because she does this technique that you explained naturally! Thanks so much for the tutorial! I’ll give this a try from now on

    • @jeannetteryals6180
      @jeannetteryals6180  3 года назад +4

      Yes! Rocking back and forth is the key~~~~~ keep trying ~ literally 10 mins or so a day and your body will eventually put the movement together. It took me more than 30 days of doing it and my hoop spent most of the time on the floor. Then all of a sudden it was like a lightbulb went off and then..... easy peasey. Check back in with your progress:

      Oh believe me- I am doing a happy dance for you-- it takes time and patience and if you could see me when I first started doing hoop...... it was hilarious just watching me.
      My hoop spent most of a 60 min session on the floor-- then I started to watch tv and hoop and my body finally got the timing down ( and I stopped thinking while I was doing it) it was like a huge ..... bingo
      Keep doing it and soon you will keep it up longer and longer-- it took me more than a month to finally get the timing down- some people pick it right up and others it takes longer.
      So yeahhhhhhhhhhh for you!!!

    I’m struggling. But I will keep on practicing.
    I did get it at some point few years back using my friend’s as she was teaching me what to do. Not I bought mine. I really want to get it.
    Edit: day two is much better. I got to do both dominant side and non dominant side. But seems to stay up longer on the non-dominant side. Pleasantly surprised. Was able to keep it up for about 1 minute long compared to 3 seconds yesterday. Thanks for the video. So helpful.

      I couldn’t keep it up at all when I first started- literally 30 days of working out in the class and I would have to actually work out after the class because my hoop spent more time on the floor than anyplace--when I took it home and tried it while I was watching tv my body finally got the movement down. ( my brain was busy paying attention to the tv ) and my body finally got the rock of the feet and push of the hips-- keep trying- you will get it

    I’m planning on buying one but like what’s different from this to a normal hula hoop and also is it easier to use then a normal hoopla hoop coz I’m terrible at them

    • @jeannetteryals6180
      @jeannetteryals6180  3 года назад

      I think it’s a matter of preference and what you are doing it for...... many people “ dance” more with lighter regular hula hoops so they toss them, use multiple hoops and the motion is more swirling
      --
      With water or weighted hoops the motion is more of a rocking movement and once you have mastered the motion it’s simple to move and dance to some extent but you wouldn’t be able to toss it or use multiple hoops simultaneously ( and be safe that is....)
      --
      For me personally I get a better workout with a weighted hoop-- I would like a hula dance hoop in my younger days of gymnastics and baton twirling because I would be able to do those in dance hooping
      --
      In my older days I like low impact but still difficult workouts but my back bend days are over, lol
      --
      Some people pick this motion up quick-- it took me about a month to pick it up but once my brain stopped thinking and my body realized it was just rocking back and forth I took off
      -- hope this helps
      --happy hooping

      Looks and videos are deceiving-- I made this video after spending 30 days trying it every day and failing-- I tried a class and the hoop spent most of the time on the ground
      I finally started to watch tv so my mind would be occupied and I could STOP thinking g about it-- my body finally got the movement

    Oh lord I bought a hula hoop. How long did it take you to get the timing down? How often and how long did you practice a day?

    • @jeannetteryals6180
      @jeannetteryals6180  7 лет назад +5

      Courtney, It took me a while!!! Like 30 days, lol----Finally got the timing down while I was hooping and watching television one evening. When I first started I took a class and the hoop was on the floor for 95% of the class so I would literally have to go workout after class. It was VERY frustrating. Practice everyday for a month----even if it is for 5-15 minutes and don't think about it. Just do it. The less you think ---the better it is. I am going to upload a couple shorty videos to help with keeping the hoop up when you first start. So, keep an eye out for them.

    Hi Jeannette!
    I am a man in my later 60s and bought a weighted hoop recently to try to learn this again ... I was a child when I first learned. Anyway like most of your subscribers and followers ... I keep losing control of the hoop spinning around my waist. I will admit that I have a bjg, protruding belly causing the hoop to either go above or below my waist. It seems thaf my waistline is too big to keep the hoop located on it due to physics. Do you have any suggestions? I am using a 42 inch 160 psi hoop! Thank you in advance!
    ~Lee

    • @jeannetteryals6180
      @jeannetteryals6180  3 года назад +1

      Lee Yates hey Lee-- all bellies are welcome!!
      1- does your hoop come up to your belly button when you place it on the ground in front of you?!!
      A bigger hoop is sometimes easier to handle because it allows more time for your body to catch it as it goes around
      2- keep you stance in a split stance close together- - so one foot in front and the other slightly behind as if you were cross country skiing- to give you a visual-- but a foot or so from one heel to the top of your other foot
      3- weighted hoop is a rocking motion vs aregular hula hoop which is a hip circular “ swirling” motion
      4- put the radio on or the tv something that distracts your mind and keep trying-- eventually your body will figure out the rhythm-- when we think-- we overwhelm ourselves
      It took me about 30 days to pick it up and I have seen others pick it up from the get go-- so let your body FEEL the hoop as it is going around and eventually you will get the push and rock forward motion and then the back and rock back motion
      Let me know where you are in the world and maybe we could do a Facebook live so I can see what you are doing

      @@jeannetteryals6180 Hi again Jeannette!
      First ... thank you so much for your punctual, kind, and informative reply as I appreciate it.
      Perhaps I am not understanding exactly what a weighted hula hoop is. Mine has no liquid or anything that gets moved with centrifugal force. I only know that it comes to my belly button as that is the one thing I know is correct for my size. :D
      I keep checking my stance and perhaps my timing is also wrong. I picture trying to take an "egg shaped" object and spinning a ring around on it. Trying to keep it in the middle of the egg would be quite difficult!! LOL ... this is how I see my belly!
      Anyway Jeannette, I will be back in touch with you on this in the near future as I will be having surgery tomorrow and won't be able do much of anything at all!
      :(
      Take care and thank you once again for your reply and 'yes' ... we can try a live chat on Facebook Messenger later!

      Lee Yates best wishes for surgery!! Your hoop doesn’t have to have water - it travels similar to other weighted hoops ( these are a harder material but work the same) is your
      Hoop hollow like an old time hoop from day the 60-70s? Let me know-- if it’s hollow-- you do need to swirl rather than rock

      @@jeannetteryals6180 Well hi there Jeannette! Yes, the hoop I have is hollow, but of very thick material. It was made to order from this company and was shipped coiled around itself. There were very specific instructions for unpacking it and letting it just set flat for 24 hours to naturally unwind itself. The ends are tied together with a special push-button connector that locks in place ... I hope this helps.
