I knew the bassist would blow you guys away. GARY THAIN was one of the rockingest bassists of the 70's. He impressed this young bassist because he played cleanly and melodically with a great sense of timing. His hands, brain and soul were definitely in sync. And what a killer tone! He was so inspirational! I was fortunate to have seen him live. RIP.

Yeah! The classic Uriah Heep lineup, blasting out one of their biggest hits. I saw that lineup at their peak in Springfield MA in 1973, as they headlined an odd triple bill that really worked. They were fantastic and played everything off their great live album of that era plus did Stealing and a couple tunes that ended up on their next album. They deserved to be headliners. 2nd on the bill was Earth, Wind and Fire, they brought their own style and got respect from the rock fans by both their vocals and backing, their band really got flowing and we enjoyed their set. An even bigger surprise was the the opener, ZZ Top, making their first tour into interior New England, and having just released Tres Hombres. They blasted out what would become Ikonic songs from that album and earlier, killer tunes from their first 2 albums, we had not heard heavy blues quite like what they hit us with, we got them to encore after a generous opening set. That show was $5.50 for 3 bands that would all headline in their great careers. Those were the days guys, the 70s vibe was like no other. Next, from Uriah Heep, do July Morning and be amazed. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

I don’t think UH gets enough credit as a great band but I see that they may be an acquired taste for some. I love them and the older I get the more I love their catalog and they continue to produce solid music. A bit of metal, a bit of blues, a bit of that Deep Purple organ and a bit of PROG. One of the things I love about them like Blue Oyster Cult, they’re hard to pin down or label. They have their own things and they keep you guessing!

These guys kind of ran parallel to Deep Purple - like the “unholy trinity “ right there at the beginning of heavy rock and proto-metal, heavy organ, decades long career of breakups and reformations with lineup changes…. Important band with a huge rabbit hole of a catalogue.

Easy Livin' is an obvious choice, there are much deeper tracks like Gypsy, Salisbury, July Morning, Stealin', Pilgrim, Return to Fantasy or the title track of beforementioned album. They are still doing strong (especially live) - their last three albums are among their best!
