    This was from 1972 from the "Demon and Wizards" album....one of my all-time favorite albums. Uriah Heep was an album band rather than a singles band. They didn't have many "hits", but a good one was "That's The Way That It Is" from 1983. That's one you might want to check out.

    In 1974, RUSH opened for Uriah Heep. They were VERY influential influence at that time. Deep Purple formed in 1968. Uriah Heep in 1969. Both in London. Both are considered pioneers of heavy metal, hard & progressive rock. Deep Purple's drummer, Ian Paice, is on the list of all time greatest drummers that no one ever talks about. AMAZING! He's also a lefty, like me.

      Yeah, pioneers for sure. As a wee lad of literally 8 or 9 ('72 or '73), I was given my first two rock albums: Deep Purple - Fireball and UH - Demons and Wizards. I'll always lump the two of them together as they were pretty much my introduction to hard rock and roll. They still stand as classics

    • @AAndromeda-lw7fh
      @AAndromeda-lw7fh 6 месяцев назад +1

      @bobgorman… Correct!! ...Ian Paice is the greatest for me! ...The reason he stays out of the spotlight is probably because he's such a quiet guy. Most of the time, the more scandals someone makes, the more famous they become!! ... Ian Paice NEVER had a scandal, with drugs and the like! ...He still shows outstanding performance today (after 55 years)!!

And it just got worse from there with MTV. *_Ridin' The Storm Out_* is the only song I'm willing to listen to now, and even that kinda sucks. I'm out after the first verse and chorus, with a bad taste in my mouth. Their '80s writing is eminently face-punchable.

    Uriah Heep have a varied song catalogue and could be called (arguably) the first progressive metal band as their first album came out in 1970. Top tracks to check out the wide scope/style of their music: Gypsy (a heavy rocker from their debut album), The Park (a beautiful ballad from their second release, Salisbury), July Morning (an incredible epic from their third album, Look At Yourself), The Wizard (opening track from their fourth and most popular album, Demons And Wizards), Stealin' (probably the band's second most popular song), and Rainbow Demon (a strong deep cut from Demons And Wizards). Those songs are good starting points for the David Byron (vocalist) era of the band.

      @@johnstorton I disagree with Ken's statement big time !!! Now, I will admit that there was nothing that he played that I couldn't. But his style was very fluid and natural (unlike, say Emerson, as his stuff always cramped up my hands, fingers and wrists). But I grew up on Ken, Jon Lord, Wakeman, et al. This is one of their most radio played and recognized songs. Short, up tempo, and everything you could ask for in 2,5 minutes Iagree on that with you. But they also made epic rock ballads. July Morning is worthy to be next on your Uriah Heep quest. Cheers!

    Thank you for finally doing some Uriah Heep! "Easy Livin'" is definitely a banger and I'm so glad you rated it A+! I would suggest "The Wizard" next...one of my fave songs ever. It's a bit softer than this, but it has some good social commentary ("Why don't we listen to the voices in our hearts? For then we know we'd find we're not so far apart") "Magician's Birthday" is good, too.

    Alex I appreciate your honesty-the thought you put into this channel is refreshing. Andy as well of course! Uriah Heep- Rush opened for them and one of the guys with the band nailed Geddy Lee’s slippers to the floor! Rush in the Farewell to Kings era-Kimonos and Marshalls

    Great band. Try "Stealin'" - fantastic song. My one & only knock against "Easy Livin'" has always been that it's too short.

    My big brother bought me this album when I was 10. I spent many days lying on my bed listening to this on repeat well into my teen years, and still play it regularly at age 60. Circle of hands, from this album is on the playlist for my funeral, the only part of my funeral I have planned for or care about.

    So many podcasters so just came across you guys. But as soon as I saw Uriah I had to listen. David Byron is one of the great voices in rock. Loved the Heep from 1970 their first 7 albums are super good.

    I’d vote for Stealin’ for your next visit to the Uriah Heep catalog. Varied tempo and vocal intensity.
    I saw Uriah Heep with Savoy Brown in El Paso in 1972. The opening act…..a young ZZ Top!
    Need I say it was a great concert?
    ZZT’s gritty Texas blues, Savoy Browns British spin on blues and Heep’s prog rock. Killer!!

    Thanks for bringing me back to the mid-70s. It's been a long, long time since I've heard this great tune.
    Saw them once in concert had a few of their albums on my regular play list, then tragedy struck. My girlfriend and I went our separate ways and she ended up with my albums. So again thank you for bringing back a treasured memory!! 😎
