Thank you! It warms my heart when people actually keep updated about the bands they claim to like, as opposed to be completely in the dark about anything that band has been doing for the last 30-40 years. As a longtime Uriah Heep fan, who make sure to always keep myself in the loop, I can only say: that's the spirit. And yeah, they are the fourth of the Big 4 too, that part is also correct.

I would say they were on an equal tier with Purple. Ahead of Sabbath, but behind Zeppelin. Heep never did get the airplay in North America that the other three did. And after losing members of their classic line-up they continued to create great music.

I know Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath are generally referred to as the 'holy trinity of '70s hard rock,' but I'd personally swap out Sabbath for Heep. Sabbath is a little too 'metal' for me, whereas the other 3 bands at least had some slight prog rock leanings to them, which made them more interesting to my ears.

So many great songs by Uriah Heep from which to choose. They were my first "favorite" band, having been introduced to them by my oldest brother with their song "Lady in Black," a gentle, poignant tune.
But if you want some more of their hard-rocking numbers, might I recommend the following: Easy Livin', Gypsy, Look at Yourself and July Morning, with some fabulous synth work by Ken Hensley.
And if you're feeling adventurous, you might want to give a listen to the band's 16-minute opus, "Salisbury."
This is truly a great rock and roll band that strangely flew mostly under the radar here in America, more's the pity.

Oh dear me, am I ready for this? I know _Stealin'_ is epic, so I can only imagine how extra-epic Jay and Amber's reaction will be. Predicting Amber loves all that heavy swirling Hammond organ that was the Heep's signature, and I can't see Gary Thain's bass line not catching Jay's attention. Let's hit play and see if I'm right... 😁
EDIT: I did alright. Did forget the always-classic reaction most anyone gets first time to the narrator laughing about the rancher's daughter.
Anyway- Next up, I'd love _Seven Stars_ myself, it's a loud fast jammer. Their biggest success, _Easy Livin'_ is in can't go wrong territory for a good bass-driven one. And then _Circus_ is a nice easy more-acoustic bit sort of like the first part of _The Wizard_ before it goes loud. But ultimately, it's hard to go wrong with the Heep. 😁

Glad to see you enjoy one of the most underrated rock bands of all time. There have been so many generations of this band with numerous line-ups and lead vocalists that have all excelled at what they do. While many of the founding band members have passed on luckily Mick Box is still here and still going strong. His version of the band is still touring and still has the feel the band was known for from the beginning. It's hard to believe (but not a bad thing i any way) that the band is still going strong after 54 years non-stop. Others have suggested Easy Livin' of which I couldn't agree more but I'll also add Look at Yourself, Salisbury, Rainbow Demon, Fallen Angel, Traveller in Time or Gypsy.

Saw them open the show with this number in 1974, Gary Thain (one the the best bass players ever) with short hair due to being electrocuted on stage less than a month earlier (in Houston I believe). Sadly he was not with us much longer, and indeed all of the band playing on this track are now dead, expect for the founder Mick Box (possibly the nicest person in rock). He still tours with Uriah Heep, and they released their 25th studio album, Chaos and Colour, early this year. 2 members of the current line up have been with Heep since about 1989, one joined in 2008 (to replace Lee Kerslake, the drummer who played on Stealin', but had to retire due to ill health), and one in 2014 (I think) to replace Trevor Bolder (bassist from Spiders from Mars - David Bowie, and with Heep since 1976) who again had poor health. The current band can still rock with the best (saw them in October last year), and Stealin' is a staple of their shows. I regard this as the first 'modern' rock song, and indeed many bands (e.g. Areosmith, Queen) cite Heep as an influence. Many will suggest classic songs such as July Morning, Easy, Livin' (try something from their Live 1973 album), but their later tracks (e.g. Overload, What Kind of God, Take Away My Soul) are great as well.

Looking forward to you reacting to more Heep. Easy Livin' is an easy one to follow, but the Demons And Wizards and The Magician's Birthday are concept albums so you should do Traveller In Time next. Sunrise and Sweet Lorraine are standouts from The Magician's Birthday. Sweet Freedom and Seven Stars are good choices from this album. For earlier songs check out Gypsy and July Morning. Enjoy!

During the first half of the 70's, some people used to say: "If you like music, you gotta love UK". There were some magic moments during this era: Hard-Rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep were at their prime; David Bowie created a lot of fantastic stuff, Prog Rock bands like Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant made History and Glam-Rock acts like T-Rex, Sweet, Slade, Mott The Hoople had a lot of hits that became timeless anthems. People who witnessed all of this during this era are really lucky.

Loved your reaction! I like how into it you were and closely y'all pay attention -- so good. Heep were my 2nd favorite band growing up, ahead of even Zeppelin. As you may suspect they have a lot of very good songs. Lots of variety too, as you already commented on, between The Wizard and this. Hard to say exactly what to do next but I'll give some suggestions. In no particular order. If you want long, epic tunes the 3 to go to are "Salisbury", "July Morning" and "Magician's Birthday". Others (I'm tempted to name about 20, lol) : "Easy Livin' "-- which along with "Stealin" were their 2 biggest songs; "Look at Yourself", "Sunrise" off of "Uriah Heep Live "(1973), "Bird of Prey"; and a few personal favorites that aren't nearly as well known: "Beautiful Dream", "Footprints in the Snow", "Time to Live", "The Park", "A Year or a Day", "Traveler in Time", "Simon the Bullet Freak", "One Way or Another". And that's just with this singer. In 1977 they got a new singer and put out more good music, but I figure that can wait.... Love your channel! Fellow Bengals fan here (Cincinnatian) 😊

Heep are primarily hard progressive Album Oriented Rock and wanted their LPs to speak for themselves rather than be marketed as an overly commercial AM radio pop hits act. They did have around a dozen hit singles ("Stealin'" among those) outside the states. The particular album this song is from, "Sweet Freedom", has sold over 6 million copies.
