Your reaction to this song was just like me. WOW ! These five men, Gary, bass- David, singer- Ken, keyboards - Lee, drums - and Mick, guitar - put Uriah Heep on the map. I lived the era and the first time I got to see Uriah Heep live was on 11-26-1972 in Toledo, Ohio and a night I will never forget. Uriah Heep still tours till today with the only original band member, Mick Box, who was in the band from the beginning. The line up now plays many, many songs from the 1972 to 1974 era and some songs before 1972 when Uriah Heep was Uriah Heep. The keyboards to this song, July Morning, the manager said this song will never be a hit but little did the manager know the band and the band knew more then the manager on music. It seemed like after 1974, things just didn't seem the same. Too many musician changes. It was the saddest moment when things started to change in early 1975. The loss of Gary Thain, bass player and David Byron, the singer, the sounds seemed gone after that. Lee, the drummer, went off to play drums for Ozzy Osborne on two of Ozzy's albums and Ken, the keyboard player left for good in 1980.
Uriah are one of my favourite bands since the early 70s and there’s not many bands that actually have legible lyrics and understand them, Heep and Hensley mastered the art of prog rock poetry……
Idk about "all time" but he's definitely good. Butnits not just him, the organs, the drums.. the entire package here is beautiful. Some of my favorite parts of the song isn't even with him singing. It's just the band doing its thing
@@knutolabersas5601 true. They've had several different formations and several members have sadly died along the way. Still, it was a great show. Actually, there were quite a few of them that day taking turns on the stage.
Most of their music was written by the keyboard man - Ken Hensley. I got married in July and begged my wife to have this song played at our wedding (1973) - never happened, much to my chagrin.
Ah, the classic early lineup. Ken Hensley on keys/Slide guitar, Mick Box on Guitar, David Byron- vocals, Ollie olson?- drums (later Elton John) and Gary Thain (Australian?)- Bass. Seen this band so many times since 1971 and sung this song with them from the front rail.
I had the chance to speak to Mick Box last year when he called me for a special occasion, after a few minutes he told me after my question was why HEEP is still so humble and deserve to be even more a bigger band as they have been,... his reaction was priceless and said that they never really had the goal to be the biggest, like it if they did, but they just wanted to make money, make music and make the fans and the band happy, thats what it's alle about, Positivity''.. Man he got me right there, signed my Magicians Birthsday Record and even send me some other stuff including a video saw them October 2022..... Great amazing band, Uriah Heep.

@@TheRealMediaMan No worries. I saw a few others I wanna check out. Especially since you mentioned liking Jethro Tull and Dream Theater. You sound like my kinda people.
Obviously this is a very controversial topic, but there are many who believe the 4 most influential bands in the development of rock from the sound of the 60s to today are Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and Uriah Heep. This is not based on sales or chart positions but rather on how the have effected the bands which followed and how they changed the shape of the music. Now personally, I'd have placed Uriah Heep up with Pink Floyd, but I believe the list is not supposed to be in order - just the 4 pillars ... Uriah Heep, by the way, are still around and still recording and touring.
@@TheRealMediaMan Yes, I believe 4 have all died so from the original there is only Mick Box left. Even so, over the years they have had to replace members but somehow the band has managed to continue on - it helps I guess that they were generally just replacing 1 person at a time and the rest of them would help keep the band ... I was going to say "The same" but no - I would rather say that if you listen to them over time, it could almost be the original members growing in a predictable and believable manner. Of course, we will never know what the band WOULD have sounded like if all the members had lived - but to me the feel of the band has only changed in ways I would have expected. I hope that makes sense.
