    New and improved PK380.

  • @shouryu
    @shouryu 7 месяцев назад +16

    Nice idea...but why make it single stack? Consider that Ruger packs 12 rounds into the much smaller LCP, I can't think of a single good reason why Walther couldn't have made this 12-15 rounds. Then it would a perfect competitor to the Ruger Security 380 and the Cheetah. Seems like the single most glaring oversight in the design, when everything else was so well executed.

    • @zaitcev0
      @zaitcev0 7 месяцев назад +3

      Because, contrary to Dan's assertion, it is a slightly warmed-up PK380, which was a single stack. They crammed 1 more round with a Magguts-like trick, but that's about it.

    • @h_in_oh
      @h_in_oh 7 месяцев назад

      There is something about having a double action hammer that takes some space around the grip, and they want the grip to be thin. It might have been possible to go beyond a single stack if it was striker fired.

    My LCP-MAX has a 10 round magazine, light to carry, easy to shoot and is American made. My only 380 pistol that rides in the pocket 24/7... I think that's where the 380 ACP belongs, not midsize or full size handguns. But options are cool.

    • @knastera

    Ergonomics and paddle mag release are both positive features. Accessory rail is unnecessary on a concealed carry pistol (but for some reason, lots of folks insist on a rail). No slide-stop lever and the slide-mounted safety are definite non-starters for me. I'll stick with the CCP M2.

    There is a market for compact 380 pistols. Some people can't handle a larger caliber or shoot it well. Some people limp-wrist a 9mm but shoot a 380 fine. Or they can't shoot a micro 380 well but they shoot a compact 380 well.

  • @garyK.45ACP
    @garyK.45ACP 7 месяцев назад +5

    Thanks for covering everything for us, Dan.
    My observations:
    Interesting how 10 years ago everyone was making .380s as small as possible and they virtually caused the extinction of .25 ACP and .32 ACP handguns with very small .380s. Now everyone is making .380s the size of small 9mms. I guess the market for a controllable and easy to manipulate .380 is larger than I would have guessed. 🤷‍♂But...that's a good thing!
    I LOVE DA/SA or DAO hammer fired handguns for concealed carry. So much so that I will not _carry_ anything BUT a DA/SA or DAO hammer fired handgun. (revolver or semi-auto)
    That said, a DA/SA semi-auto _should have a hammer drop_ feature, even more so than a safety of any kind. For example, the SIG P226/228/229 handguns have a hammer drop, but no safety. That was a big reason I chose a SIG P228 for my plainclothes duty handgun for 19 years.
    Safeties can be in the wrong position at the wrong time. I prefer relying on the DA trigger pull as a safety. Make the gun work like a revolver...pull the trigger to shoot, STOP pulling the trigger to make the gun safe.
    The nonsense about "What if someone takes your gun? Maybe they won't know how the safety works!" doesn't apply to concealed carry. "Concealed" has a meaning. No one is supposed to KNOW you have a gun TO take, unless you take it for USE, in which case the safety should be "off" anyway.
    Walther WILL have problems with this. There WILL be negligent discharges, because people WILL "drop the hammer" and forget to engage the safety first. Walther has been making DA/SA handguns with the hammer drop, slide mounted safety for almost ONE HUNDRED years! Why did they change that?!?!?
    Just use the PP/PPK type safety/hammer drop OR the hammer drop only (best choice) as on the SIGs.
    Merry Christmas!!!!!

      100% nailed it. I hear this is umarex production similar to the pk380.
      The more i learn about this gun the less i want it and the worse it sounds. Seems like the illusion of a hammer block safety will give someone the false sense of a decocker leading to discharges.

  • @davidbayne2845

      I looked at one today at a local gun shop. For $800 they offer the handgun with "FINAL EDITION" stamped on it, a hard case, and a Walther souvenir coin. I would have preferred just the handgun and at least two 15 rd. magazines for about $500. I don't need the coin or the case, or the final edition stamp or the stupid coin. That gun isn't that much of a classic to justify all that. I would have felt like I was signing up for the Dork of the Month Club buying all those cheap extras with the gun for a inflated price.

    S&W M&P EZ and Ruger Light Rack competition. Walther marketing must have crunched some numbers and convinced the board to throw their hat in the ring. I don’t see it though. But what do I know except I love to shoot. 👍🇺🇸

      the security 380 blows the doors off this imo. 15 rounds all the same features.less money too. Walther fit finish is def better tho.

    I would have liked to seen Walther come out with an optics ready CCP M2 pistol with the PDP design. It’s like getting a HK P7 pistol with a gas delayed system. Anyways it would be something different to own as oppose to getting more of the same old same old. Zero interest in this pistol; it’s a yawn fest.

    Sorry, it just seems to be a PK380 redesigned to look like a PDP to me. Nothing new besides the cosmetic changes.

    if this gun is as small as the ppk, this will definitely be my secondary conceal carry (hopefully appendix)

    The safety/trigger system has to be one of the worst idea's Walther has ever come up with. It makes zero sense.

    Disappointed its not a stack and a half magazine for more capacity

    There’s a market for it. But I’ll bet it’s a pretty small market.

    Walther should have made the mag hold more ammo.

    Walther has an hit and miss market vs the Glock.. Walther, alone has plenty of inovation within their line-up and should market their P99/PDP more often.. H&K does the same except those prices are way to high! (Thought about collecting if it werent for the prices)

    Hammer looks close to the skin. Perhaps it needs a beaver tail? Nonetheless, I like the rest of the features.

      No decocker
      No double stack
      No reason to buy this just spend 280 on used pk if that's what you want ..almost 16-18 trs ago this was a carry option ..now a G2c used is a way way better option..I lived my pk380 lets be clear the techs miles by this

    Walther has been on a roll these last 3 years. They have the best $500 handgun on the market.
