    To people who know movies, this is one of the greatest movies ever made. So many homages to other movies, such tight scriptwriting and editing, every character has an arc and a special moment, so much foreshadowing and so many callbacks, and the police love it because Angel acts like an exemplary police officer.

      Yeah, a lot of the humor is just in the juxtaposition of action movie tropes in a small town in England.
      If you don't know the tropes, or the source material, a lot of the humor just doesn't land.
      But what I absolutely love about this movie is how every reveal at the end is subtly revealed early in the movie

    "You can't make people disappear."
    "Yes I can, I am the Chief Inspector."

    • @killinglonliness88
      @killinglonliness88 Год назад

      Lmao, yeah it's not just the British police and justice system. All governments around the globe are crooked. People talk shit about third world countries and such claiming they are "savages" and do things that "civilized society" wouldn't do, but they don't realize our governments are doing those things, they just know how to hide it. Humanity is fucked, sadly. There is a lot of good in the world, but the evil will always overshadow it because humans are greedy selfish creatures. It's a shame.

    This is one of those movies that gets funnier and better the more you watch it. Like every line in the first half is foreshadowing the second half of the movie. There's so many things that get said in passing so quickly that are a joke or reference to something later and that's what I find so brilliant about this movie. I've seen this movie about dozen times and even in my recent watch of it I noticed something I never noticed before. The Andy's say something like: "You wanna play big cop in a small town, why don't you go f**k about the model village?" and the last fight between Angel and Skinner takes place in the model village. That sort of thing is the case for like every line, it's crazy. Sgt Angel even knocks out most of the townspeople in ways that seem like accidents, keeping with the theme of how they stage their murders. He shoots the potted plant down onto someone, makes all those kegs/barrels take out someone else, Danny opens a car door into the bike lady, all things that could be seen as accidents. British humor tends to be a real hit or miss genre in the states. For me, it's one of my favorite styles of comedy and has me belly laughing all the time. But plenty of my friends and family stare blankly and either don't get it or don't find it funny.

    • @AwesomeUSMovies

  • @rdevries3852
    @rdevries3852 2 года назад +22

    A lot of the humor in this movie comes from references to and parodies of other movies and general movie tropes. Since you haven't seen too many movies, you might have missed a lot of that. Also, much of the humor is just very, _very_ British, which might also not be what you're used to and in tune with.
    As someone who _has_ seen a lot of movies (including all of the ones this one specifically calls back to) and who's probably more accustomed to British humor, to me this is absolutely one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
    If this isn't your cup of tea, that's fine though. Different folks, different strokes, and all that. Glad to hear that you at least somewhat enjoyed it.

    "My, my, here come the Fuzz."
    Fun Fact: When in costume, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg often were assumed to be police officers. Many strangers asked them for directions, and instead of telling the truth they went along with it.
    Cameos Cameos Cameos Fact: Nicholas' ex-girlfriend Jeanine at the crime scene is Cate Blanchett. The Santa that stabs Nicholas is Peter Jackson. The judges for the Best Kept Village competition near the end of the film are played by Peter Wild and the mothers of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg. P. I. Staker is Stephen Merchant, best known in America as the voice of Wheatley in Portal 2.
    An Actor's Actor Fact: The filming of Angel and Skinner's first meeting at the supermarket was filmed over the course of two days. The conversation was filmed entirely from Timothy Dalton's perspective first. The next day, early in the morning, they were to film the conversation with Angel's perspective and close-ups. Dalton, much to the surprise of the crew, showed up early the next morning, and even though he wasn't going to be on camera for that particular portion of the filming, he sat off-camera in Skinner's chair and played the role so that Simon Pegg would be able to have him to work with while filming his part as Angel. Pegg stated it really showed Dalton's professionalism.

I figured it wouldn't really reach you because all of the many, many references it throws at you are to movies you've never seen. You really should watch it again though. Without the distraction of having to provide a reaction for us. There are so many clever things that this movie does that can be easily missed. Even after several viewings, I'm still catching little (brilliant) things that I didn't before. Little bits of dialog, or the amazing transitions. Even the way the music is used. I, personally, prefer this film to Shaun of the Dead. That does not take anything away from that film, but this was the evolution to the awesomeness that Wright, Pegg, and Frost created in that film. Much like how everyone likes to say that Aliens is better than Alien, and T2 is better than The Terminator, even though Hot Fuzz is not a sequel, I feel like it is an example of how three filmmakers can work together and make something that is entirely better than already beloved classic, which Shaun of the Dead is. Oh, and the Goose is easily the best character.

      Because of Patrick's hair style (blond wavy mullet) in the movie, Tony Stark (also known as Iron Man, played by the fantastic Robert Downey Jr.) in both "Avengers" and "Thor 3/Ragnarok" keeps calling Thor, "Point Break".

    Dearest Mr. James, I love to watch all the movies with you, moreover I love you as an honest person! But please: Your account is called "Awsome US-Movies" and I'm totally fine with it.
    Even when you give us some personal informations about your former background you speak about the "idea" to watch all the great US-Movies you've had missed in your past...
    I truly hope that you also realize, that some of the movies you've already watched (and liked very much!) are definately NO US-Movies. "Hot Fuzz" for exp. is an UK and FRANCE co-production.
    Or and of course "James Bond 007" (I hope we will see some more of them in the future), one of the greatest "franchises" ever made IS ALL BRITISH (UK-made!) So here and there I find an Australien or even Canadien productions betweeen your chosen movies. As Mr. James Bond himself would take it: "It's unfortunately so typical american, to believe, that almost each great motion picture is a "Hollywood-made one"! So as a huge "book worm" (your words) you should at least have already read about those facts. Facts of life... We (all your non-american fans!) will appreciate that. Thank you very much in advance! All the best to you and may God pless you!

      I talked about this being a non-US based movie specifically in the intro. The only reason this is US based movies is do to copyright. The United States has a very firm law set in-place to protect this content. Many other contries don't have this set in stone laws and that is the main reason this is mostly a US based movie channel. Nothing to do with origin or characters or anything like that. Just becuase of copyright law.

      @@AwesomeUSMovies Thank you very much for the explanation and the fact that you repeated it especially for me. Accepted - of course; even if not fully understandable (for us Germans ;-) ) Quite simply because here in Germany we also have some of the strictest laws in the world regarding copyrights. Primarily: It must be clearly recognizable as a “reaction or commentary channel” (and audible through cuts, overlapping comments, etc.) and it must be clearly stated underneath who owns the respective copyrights - regardless of which copyrights. Finally, what mattered to me the most was that YOU have lots and lots of fun with the BEST movies (from all over the world!). And by the way, will there be another James Bond movie reaction on your channel? My personal recommendation: “The Spy who loved me” (1977)... :-))) So, stay “AWSOME” and only the very best wishes for you - as always!

    Definitely not one of the most enjoyable movies I've watched. I found very little humor in it but British humor is very dry to me. One time around was more than enough. But many loved it so kudos to them.

    Most of the humour and subtlety were lost on you unfortunately but that can happen if this si your first experience of film and humour outside the US

      I watched the second one Shaun of the Dead and I actually really like that one

      @@AwesomeUSMovies Yeah I watched your reaction.
      Perhaps the more you watch the more you tune in because Hot Fuzz is everything Shaun of the Dead is in terms of script and direction, only more finely honed and the best of the trilogy in the majority of peoples opinion.
      Of course not everyone enjoys that sort of dry humour or subtle word play anyway which is loaded in Hot Fuzz.
      It would have been interesting to see if you reactions and opinions would have been the same if you had watched Shaun of the Dead first but like I say, everyone has their own taste in humour.

    The humour is phenomenal, but I don't appreciate the gore.

    Oh dear another American who doesn't get the humour.... just to much of it... to compute... missed practically all the references to other movies...
