Jim Carrey is one of those few actors that can own a character so completely he seems to physically transform into that character. Cameron Diaz is in a lot of movies. A good comedy is “There’s Something About Mary”. A fantastic Christmas film with her is “The Holiday”.
Grew up watching Jim Carey in a handful of movies and I remember always forgetting that he was an actor and being so absorbed into his portrayal of the character he played.
The part where he pulls the condom out of his pocket and says “sorry wrong pocket” wasn’t scripted; it was a genuine moment of Jim going in the wrong pocket and pulling out the wrong prop, but his improvised reaction to it was so naturally funny that the director preferred it to what was originally supposed to be said and he kept it in the film!
People bring up Cameron in her red dress but that black and white one started my adulthood, or at least the process of it. Goddamn. It's the epitome of sexy.
Cameron Diaz didn't do the singing: those vocals were dubbed by Susan Boyd. The Royal Crown Revue, which was an actual group (since disbanded), play themselves, and "Hey! Pachuco!" is all theirs. But the "What, SERIOUSLY?!" singing credit: Jim Carey really did his own vocals in "Cuban Pete."
The actor who played Stanley’s co-worker Charlie was stand-up comic Richard Jeni, and he was hilarious on stage. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2007 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Requiescat in pace. 😢
The Mask is a comic book hero(?), he's actually rated R as he's certainly not family friendly, they watered him down for the movie. He's supposed to be an insane monster with a sadistic sense of humor. To explain the Mask's powers, he has Toon Force, it's what Bug's Bunny and Roger Rabbit and such use. He can literally make reality whatever he wants as long as he finds it funny.
The scene with him dancing and singing with the cops is my favorite. I had the VHS and I would constantly rewind that part to see who I thought the best dancers were.
This is an awesome movie. Have fun speculating "WHAT IF" this mask was found by a Xenomorph Alien, Predator, a Borg, Spock, Wolverine, Magneto, Eddie Brock while he is Venom, etc.
This was one of my favorite childhood movies. There are lots of great Jim Carry movies to go through and especially I want to mention "A Series of Unfortunate Events" because I haven't seen anyone react to it so far and I think it's brilliant how Jim Carry takes on different characters in this one.
4:44 - "Those are cute!" ... Oh! Do I have the wrong time stamp there? mY bAd! 😅😜🤣 -> 4:40 * I knew you'd be down with the cartoon concept! 🤣👍 Which is awesome! So many reactors who have no clue that that is part of the movie get so hung up and taken out of the movie wondering how or why it is like that (Which is such a bummer);
You know... I was 21 years old when I watched this movie in the cinema. I remember when Cameron Díaz entered the bank with her red dress... complete silence and then a roar and applause from all of us men there 😂😹 It's so refreshing to see you watch this for the first time, I had a great time again! 😊
Amy Yazbeck (the reporter lady with the red hair) was married to John Ritter (Jack Tripper on 3's company & voice of original Clifford the big red dog)
Cameron Diaz made her name in this role (her first), and then cemented it in Something About Mary. Something About Mary is another one that is a MUST watch, one of the funniest movies ever made.
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. It came out when I was 5 and I remember seeing it in the theater. There was even a cartoon based on the movie.
Would love to see a Mask reboot by Sam Rami, perfect director for a Dark/Brutal mask film with hints of over the top comedy. The Mask comics are pretty mature and brutal something the films didn't highlight focsunig more on the over the top silly asspect which is really just one side of the coin. This is why a Rami Mask reboot could be amazing the dark meets over the top is what Rami does best. His film Darkman is extremally underrated yet amazing, little low budget but its a great cult classic. His well known films are Evil Dead and the 2000s Spider-Man trilogy which you'll love for how unique they are with his Spider-Man films being regarded as one of the best superhero films of all time. These aren't connected to the MCU so thankfully no overwhelming connections. So little history the Mask is an American comic book series created by Doug Mahnke and John Arcudi and published by Dark Horse Comics. Dark House comics are pretty cool creating such characters as Hellboy who also has a really cool movie. Alot of there comics are based on movie characters for example there's a bunch of amazing Terminator comics along with Predator, Alien, and even Robocop. They created the iconic comic Terminator VS Robocop and even featured a DC crossover with Batman VS The Predator. Pretty much if they can get the rights they'll make a comic based on that film or game.
The "loaner" car was a Studebaker, but I am not certain the year of the car. Maybe about a 1950? Great review as always, James! This movie has been the source of a lot of laughs. Good, silly, cartoonish fun. 😁
The Mask has always been my favorite Jim Carrey movie. It's what made me get into his movies. When I was younger, I didn't know that this was Cameron Diaz's first movie.
I remember how this movie completely blew my mind. I had already seen him in Once Bitten in 1986, and I had also seen some of his early stand up, and been really impressed. And I was watching him a lot on In Living Color, the Wayans Family sketch show...he was AMAZING. So when this movie and Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber all came out in 1994, I was really really happy to see him become instantly so famous...after all those years. LOL Oh, and the reason the loaner car looked familiar is because they used a couple of different models of Studebaker which were pretty famous.
My contest comment! And a little trivia.... The part when Jim Carrey is being chased by the gangsters and pulls the wet condom out of his pocket and says, "Sorry wrong pocket," was improvised by Carrey. This was Cameron Diaz's first acting role. And no, not her real voice. Her singing voice in the film was dubbed by Susan Boyd.
This movie is one of those absolute Hollywood classics. Very 90s, very crazy and very iconic (incredible effects for that time). 😃 I really like it and also the soundtrack is great too. 🙂
Thanks for sharing this. Jim Carrey was also good in the movie liar liar. And he got his big break when he was on the television show in living color check that out it's pretty funny. Thanks again and have a great day God bless . Oh and I forgot to mention bear is so cute
My favorite Jim Carrey movie is "Liar Liar"! I remember when Jim Carrey started on the classic 90s sketch comedy show "In Living Comedy"! Back then he went by James Carrey!
This movie was one of three that came out in the span of one year that really launched Jim Carey’s movie career, Dumb and Dumber, the Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
Jim Cary is so funny, and seamless in his physical comedy: :) This is a fun one, but you should also watch Man On the Moon with Jim. So good. You are too funny when Cameron Diaz comes out looking all hot, and you say, “Well, she’s lovely.” 😂 I love a man who can appreciate, but respect.
This is such a goofy, fun movie, if you can go along with the premise, and take it for what it is. We hadn't seen graphics like this before, and it really lit a fire under Jim Carrey's career. Love your reactions and this channel, so thank you! This movie is a classic. Jim did so many comedies but his dramatic acting is also great. The Truman Show is one of my favorites of his. It's a very Twilight Zone/Sci-Fi concept that has a lot of emotion. Same with his film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which also stars Kate Winslet from Titanic. Great movies and I recommend checking those out if they haven't already been suggested. But I imagine they have already.
5:26 The nose is a Studebaker, possibly a 1950-1951 model year Champion or Commander sedan. It was designed by Raymond Loewy, the same man who designed the Coca-Cola bottle.
The part with the cops is also one of my favorites^, just like "The Mask" is one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies to watch over and over again, along with "Bruce Almighty".
I forgot how hilarious this movie was. Just a pure fun silly movie. Jim Carrey is simply amazing; the level of comedy and antics are incredible; who else could pull this off like he can. I cannot think of anyone. He was just as funny on the sitcom "In Living Color" with all sorts of funny skits; in fact the whole cast was brilliantly funny. Thanks for the reviewing it; I knew you would get a kick out of it. lol
I swear you're going through all my childhood movies haha. All you need to react to now is Hook, Roger Rabbit and the Rocketeer. Love your channel, been watching for several months now.
That's certainly a fun movie. And it was a really original concept at the time. Also, that's a great dog! For more Cameron, try "There's something about Mary". You'll get some laughs out of that one, too.
Such a classic of Jim Carrey's. I always loved the Cuban Pete routine and the balloon animal scene. But yeah, complete wacky chaos and so much fun! If you like this, the Ace Ventura Pet Detective movies are more of his craziness. My favorite more serious role of his would be The Truman Show.
YES!!! This is based on the Dark Horse Comic Book! Before Jim Carrey was cast as Stanley Ipkiss, Keanu Reeves, Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Mike Myers John Ritter, Robin Williams, and Will Ferrell were considered. Before Cameron Diaz was cast as Tina Carlyle, Vanessa Williams, Alicia Silverstone, Jennifer Connelly, Paige French, Jeri Ryan, Kelly Rutherford, Melissa Sue Anderson and Tia Carrare were considered. Jack Nicholson, Rupert Everett, Willem Dafoe and Dennis Hopper were considered for the villain. Pierce Brosnan, Richard Gere, Tom Selleck, and John Goodman were considered for Lt. Kellaway.
@@AwesomeUSMovies here's a comic book movie for you to react to The Mask Of Zorro (1998) it's based on the pulp magazine character created by Johnston McCully in 1919. He was one of the main inspirations for Batman along with the pulp magazine character The Shadow and Sherlock Holmes. It's got adventure, comedy, & romance. It's of my favorite comic book movies of all time.
A reboot I wouldn't mind seeing is of The Mask. Especially since the comics the movie was based on were more graphic and gory. I can see a Mask reboot being a dark horror comedy. It has potential.
If you think the _dog_ transforming is nuts, you should see the animated shows. In the Ace Ventura cartoon (also based on a movie led by Jim Carrey), Stanley Ipkiss crosses over, and Ace sits on the Mask. It's a running thing that Ace pretends to literally speak out of his ass. You do the math.
So we took part in a Dumb Charades competition, my sisters and I were a team of three. We had the film line category and I mimed. The line we got was the one from this, 'You're good son, real good. But as long as I'm around, you'll be second best.' I did the miming quick and they got the words, and for the bit, 'but as long as' I did a head butting motion, patted my butt, did a long action with my hands and patted my butt again. Everyone in the audience started howling.
I hear they're making a follow-up movie to catch up on Stanley's antics in 2022, called The Geriatric Mask. "It's Potty Time! P. O. T. T. Why? Because I GOTTA!"
Been a fan of Jim Carrey since his In Living Colour days (look up some clips for a quick laugh). So naturally I was a huge fan of his 90's comedies (which others have already recommended). For something a little different from Jim - The Cable Guy (1996). It's a dark comedy, with Mathew Broderick. For something very different from Jim - The Number 23 (2007).
Jim Carrey is one of those few actors that can own a character so completely he seems to physically transform into that character. Cameron Diaz is in a lot of movies. A good comedy is “There’s Something About Mary”. A fantastic Christmas film with her is “The Holiday”.
Also, Charlie’s Angels! 🔥
Agreed, I always appreciated how Jim Carrey gave each character some quirk unique unto that character.
The production team making the film were glad to have him play the role, less budget needed for CGI effects. xD
I think the Cuban Pete scene is one of my favorites. Also fun fact: Jim Carrey just learned to act with the big teeth rather than fake it.
I love when Cuban Pete hits. Comes out of nowhere and perfectly fits.

Yes that’s actually her voice. She can sing.
"Cuban Pete" was frequently sung by Desi Arnaz on "I Love Lucy".
The actor who played Stanley’s co-worker Charlie was stand-up comic Richard Jeni, and he was hilarious on stage. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2007 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Requiescat in pace. 😢

Only Jim Carrey could pull this of. Love him for all the great movies he gave us.
The scene with him dancing and singing with the cops is my favorite. I had the VHS and I would constantly rewind that part to see who I thought the best dancers were.
Fun Fact: Desi Arnaz, from I Love Lucy, had a hit with Cuban Pete back in the 40's. He sang it in a film called Cuban Pete 1946
There needs to be more people doing this movie as a reaction, but damn your laugh is contagious I love it. Been on a binge of your channel today :)
That old car is an old 1951 Studebaker Champion 4-door Sedan.
Man I wore this VHS out as a kid. Pretty sure my parents considered putting me up for adoption over it. 🤷🏻 Worth it!
Same. This, & Ace Ventura was watched multiple times in one sitting, & almost daily.
The car Jim Carrey was driving was a 1951 Studebaker.
This is an awesome movie. Have fun speculating "WHAT IF" this mask was found by a Xenomorph Alien, Predator, a Borg, Spock, Wolverine, Magneto, Eddie Brock while he is Venom, etc.
Jim Carreys facial expressions are unbeatable
This was one of my favorite childhood movies. There are lots of great Jim Carry movies to go through and especially I want to mention "A Series of Unfortunate Events" because I haven't seen anyone react to it so far and I think it's brilliant how Jim Carry takes on different characters in this one.
my brother and dad watched this so much when we as kids!! love it so much!!
This movie was better than I thought it would be. Jim Carry did a great job.
Jim Carrey was perfect for this role. I don't know if they considered anyone else, but I can't imagine anyone else doing it justice.
4:44 - "Those are cute!" ... Oh! Do I have the wrong time stamp there? mY bAd! 😅😜🤣 -> 4:40 *

I love the 'watch it Tubby' at the end and the moment of horror as police guy realises what he just said to the Mayor.. xD
One of my faves movies, lovely to see an adult enjoying it as much as i did as a kid
You know... I was 21 years old when I watched this movie in the cinema. I remember when Cameron Díaz entered the bank with her red dress... complete silence and then a roar and applause from all of us men there 😂😹 It's so refreshing to see you watch this for the first time, I had a great time again! 😊
Wonder what she does for women and enbies.
These reactions just keep getting better and better
this movie and "roger rabbit" insane animation!
Nobody ever notices the Tasmanian Devil pillow at the beginning when he first puts the mask on - foreshadowing of cartoon antics
Amy Yazbeck (the reporter lady with the red hair) was married to John Ritter (Jack Tripper on 3's company & voice of original Clifford the big red dog)
This movie is and was ridiculous, which is what it aimed to be. Very amusing. Cuban Pete dance is iconic.
Also, love the nautical pajamas.
Cameron Diaz made her name in this role (her first), and then cemented it in Something About Mary. Something About Mary is another one that is a MUST watch, one of the funniest movies ever made.
I saw first saw "Mary" as a standee, and wondered why she had the, uh, cowlick. Then I saw the movie and found out just *how* she got it…
I was obsessed with this movie as a kid. It came out when I was 5 and I remember seeing it in the theater. There was even a cartoon based on the movie.

Omg a Sam Rami evil dead type of mask movie I’m here for it!
*"Crocodile Dundee"* (1986)
The "loaner" car was a Studebaker, but I am not certain the year of the car. Maybe about a 1950? Great review as always, James! This movie has been the source of a lot of laughs. Good, silly, cartoonish fun. 😁
this was my favorite movie when I was a kid. they actually had a contest in disney adventure magazine to be an extra on the sequel that never came
I think you'd love 'Liar Liar' Jim Carrey is in that too
The Mask has always been my favorite Jim Carrey movie. It's what made me get into his movies. When I was younger, I didn't know that this was Cameron Diaz's first movie.
Cameron Diaz looks so good in this movie.
This movie, along with Liar Liar, highlight Jim Carrey's talent. Easily my two favorite movies from him. Great reaction as always,

I'm glad you enjoyed this. One of my favorites. The song that was played in the club, "Hey Pachuco", we actually played in high school marching band.
how fun
Loved this movie as a kid. Jim Carey is great.
Yay! Such a classic I love the club scene when he’s dancing!
This movie is one of those absolute Hollywood classics. Very 90s, very crazy and very iconic (incredible effects for that time). 😃
I really like it and also the soundtrack is great too. 🙂
I recall that this was Cameron Diaz's first movie role. She is also good in "Knight And Day."
“What are we doin here? His teeth are gigantic”😂😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing this. Jim Carrey was also good in the movie liar liar. And he got his big break when he was on the television show in living color check that out it's pretty funny. Thanks again and have a great day God bless . Oh and I forgot to mention bear is so cute

This movie was one of three that came out in the span of one year that really launched Jim Carey’s movie career, Dumb and Dumber, the Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
My friend dressed up as The Mask one year and had a conga line of people dressed up as cops behind him. It was hilarious.
Jim Carey in Liar, Liar is also extremely hilarious 😂
One of those movies from my childhood that blew my mind with all the special effects.

Holy smokadoo. Love this classic. Jim Carey in his prime. SMOKINNNNN
It's SMOKIN!!!
Damn, your movie selection lately has been so great 👌🏻👍🏻
10:42-yep he "installed" new tailpipes to their 'tailpipes.'

One of my early favourites as a teen. Greatest year in film for any actor.
Thanks for the reviewing it; I knew you would get a kick out of it. lol
Who Framed Roger Rabbit should be a future watch.
The mask is a CLASSIC!
I swear you're going through all my childhood movies haha. All you need to react to now is Hook, Roger Rabbit and the Rocketeer. Love your channel, been watching for several months now.
My favourite scene is the Cuban Pete number.
Spicy meatball was a reference to a very popular spaghettis sauce commercial from around the 70s
That's certainly a fun movie. And it was a really original concept at the time. Also, that's a great dog!
For more Cameron, try "There's something about Mary". You'll get some laughs out of that one, too.
Haven't seen this movie in forever, but got to see it through your eyes for the first time again.
I remember seeing this in theaters. It was such an awesome experience in my teens. Watching it with all my friends. We laughed so hard.
Jim Carrey was perfect casting for this role. I love his humor and your comedy reactions are my favorite!
Kellaway.
I honestly don't know who more then half of those people are. I'm horrible at know who actors are sorry.
@@AwesomeUSMovies here's a comic book movie for you to react to
The Mask Of Zorro (1998) it's based on the pulp magazine character created by Johnston McCully in 1919. He was one of the main inspirations for Batman along with the pulp magazine character The Shadow and Sherlock Holmes. It's got adventure, comedy, & romance. It's of my favorite comic book movies of all time.
Jim Carrey is one of the funniest actors around, everything he is in is gold. Love your reactions, keep it coming!
A reboot I wouldn't mind seeing is of The Mask. Especially since the comics the movie was based on were more graphic and gory. I can see a Mask reboot being a dark horror comedy. It has potential.
That would be epic
Mid 90s - Jim Carrey was untouchable, pure gold
Well, aside from the third act of Ace Ventura 1, but that's probably more to blame with the environment it was made under than he himself.
ONG YOU HAVE To each The Crow !!!!! It’s a cult classic action tragedy from the 90 ‘s
Jim's friend Richard Jeni hasn't been in many other movies that I'm aware of but he has done some hilarious stand-up.
But as long as I'm around, you'll be second best.'
I did the miming quick and they got the words, and for the bit, 'but as long as' I did a head butting motion, patted my butt, did a long action with my hands and patted my butt again.
Everyone in the audience started howling.
Jim Carrey is one of a kind!
The comics were quite violent and the mask went through several different owners.
Jim Carrey acted in 3 different movies in 1994 Ace Ventura Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber he was the King of Hollywood in the 90s.
I knew you'd love this. Also Diaz is smmmoookkkiiinnn.
I hear they're making a follow-up movie to catch up on Stanley's antics in 2022, called The Geriatric Mask. "It's Potty Time! P. O. T. T. Why? Because I GOTTA!"
Jim Carey is hilarious. His facial expressions cannot be duplicated and crack me up.
Cameron Diaz. Mid nineties perfection.
Jim Carrey is a comdey genius. Have seen so many of his movies and enjoy several of them that i still watch to this day
The comic this was based off of was much darker in tone. The mask character's official name is Big Head, btw :p
I still to this day say "that's a spicy meat-a-ball" on a good burp 😂
Been a fan of Jim Carrey since his In Living Colour days (look up some clips for a quick laugh). So naturally I was a huge fan of his 90's comedies (which others have already recommended).
For something a little different from Jim - The Cable Guy (1996). It's a dark comedy, with Mathew Broderick.
For something very different from Jim - The Number 23 (2007).
I truly enjoyed the reaction/review! Actually, for me, The Mask isn't my most favorite Jim Carrey movie, but it is still hugely enjoyable. 😊👍
