Now that you seen Stan you need to listen to the sequel "Bad Guy" on Marshall Mathers LP 2. Stan is from Stanleys viewpoint, Bad Guy is from his little brother Mathew's standpoint after he grows up.
Oh sweet baby boy, I almost feel bad requesting you subject yourself to this BUT this was what I was watching at 13 aka millenials are all fucked 😂 Def check out "Cleaning Out My Closet" if you haven't yet.
now you understand the REAL meaning of being a stan, and not the cutesy fan that people have started using it for, it's really a dark term for an overly obsessed fan
@@ggoshy This was most likely the first use of it, but I don't think he intended on it actually become a term. In fact it wasn't used as a term until more than a decade later.
OMG same ... I was a Stan before Stan existed. Bleached my hair and everything! But yeah, seen this a million times and never noticed. Glad I found this channel, his Eminem reactions are the best since NoLifeShaq 💯
I met Devon Sawa, the actor that plays Stan in the video, at a horror convention a few years back (he was also in the first Final Destination flim) and I had him sign a vinyl of the Marshall Mathers LP and write “Dear Slim, I wrote you but you still ain’t callin” One of the coolest things I own! Almost cooler than having the record signed by Eminem himself
I never imagined 24 years ago that one day I'd be watching videos of a new generation listening to Eminem for the first time. This was the birth of a fan being a stan. You're reactions are mad genuine man. I went down the rabbit hole lol. Good stuff!
Mate, I was thinking this but couldn’t put it into words. I remember when I was a teenager listening to to snoop and saying that one day this will be old school classic music and here we are. Same when I heard Em for the first time. Time flies
No, Eminem's 2000 song "Stan" is not based on a true story. However, the song was inspired by the rapper's real experiences with disturbing fan mail he received after releasing his album The Slim Shady LP. Eminem wrote the song as a message to fans not to take his lyrics literally. The song is about an obsessed fan named Stanley "Stan" Mitchell who writes Eminem letters expressing his admiration. Stan becomes increasingly frustrated and angry when Eminem doesn't respond to his letters, and eventually kills himself and his girlfriend. The song is widely considered a cautionary tale about the dangers of idolization. The term "stan" became an internet slang term for an extremely devoted fan of someone or something. It was also added to the Oxford English Dictionary.
Dido was super cool to both let him use her song but also be in the video for such a dramatic video This song and video are masterpieces and its funny you said it cuz I watched this video when it did its world premier on mtv 24yrs ago and I STILL get chills at the very end every time
This song is why 1) you will never, EVER hear millennials use the term 'stan' and 2) we were absolutely horrified that people started using it so casually. It literally means a fan that is completely UNHINGED. I'm so glad you got to experience this 🙂
Holy crap it makes me so happy to watch people get introduced to old Eminem, cause y’all get to see his story and how he came to be. I’m really sad u didn’t notice that “I’m doing 90 on the freeway. Hey slim, i drank a fifth of vodka, dare me to drive?” was a reference to “My name is”. nonetheless, your reactions are great man!
It’s not a true story, but it’s influenced by the backlash he faced after his first album, and is actually a very clever commentary on it. He was accused of homophobia, misogyny, encouraging violence, alcohol and drug use. They tried to cancel him before canceling people was even a thing. Slim Shady was a character developed as a vehicle for Em to channel his anger, frustrations and politically incorrect opinion and thoughts. Stan represents someone who doesn’t understand that Slim Shady is just a character. He has taken Eminem’s lyrics literally. This is demonstrated in the multiple references Stan makes to songs from Eminem’s debut album.. “just drank a fifth of vodka, dare me to drive?” and “if I have a daughter guess what imma name her? Bonnie“ He represents the type of person Em’s critics were afraid his influence would result in. Em’s reply to Stan makes it clear that Shady is a character, separate from him. He shows concern and kindness for Stan, offering advice encouraging him to seek help. Even when Stan was saying crazy shit like about cutting himself and them being together. His reply to Stan is also a reply to his critics, to illustrate that Shady is just a character, and that anything Shady says shouldn’t be interpreted as being literal or representative of who Eminem is.
Ey bro just stumbled across your channel yesterday. Im 30+ and its super cool to see you listen to these tracks. Your reactions are genuine and you have insightful shit to say but you also let the beats play out. Mad respect and my only complaint is not enough videos! Lol keep it up boss
Rarely a song comes out which can be considered “PERFECT” this is one of those amazing moments… my mind was blown away by this and I had to sneak out of my room at night and put MTV on and wait hrs for the extended video to come on so you could hear the final verse as it was censored during day I was totally obsessed with it and the reflection im window at the end still makes my hair stand
Not gonna lie, I never noticed that part either. But it had me thinking..by that part of the song the "original" Stan is dead. Is that to show that there will (unfortunately) always be another "Stan"?
I discovered reaction videos fairly recently and like them, but this young guy’s are the best I’ve seen by far. Love, love , love to hear his take on music I love.
Interesting to see your reaction today to the way Stan is portrayed and his weird behavior. It definitely made more sense in the cultural context of the time when it came out because of how massive Eminem was and how extreme the positive and negative reaction to his music was. You can see similar references to the intensity of the fans in The Way I Am when Em is telling fans to respect his privacy.
I've listened to Em from day 1 & it makes me happy seeing the younger generation react the way I did when I first heard it when it first came out. To borrow a quote. The best there is, the best there was & the best there ever will be
Marshall is a GENIUS - off the scale! 'Stan' - one of the best songs/videos ever made, by any Artist from any genre. His rhyming schemes, flow, subject matter, his storytelling abilities, he's so autobiographical with his material not to mention his rapping skills. Pissed at the spoilers in the comments! However, I highly recommend reacting to 'Bad Guy' (aka Stan pt2) - in my humble opinion it's UP THERE with 'Stan'. There's no video, just a lyric one, BUT I think that was intentional - Em wanted ppl to LISTEN to the 'story'....& the last verse, just WOW!🔥Look forward to your reaction!🤯 Eminem is an enigma - a labyrinth of puzzles within a riddle - that's why he's THEE GOAT!🐐 I've been lucky enough to have seen him in concert 3 times - UNBELIEVABLE!🤩 I'm a proud Irish Stan!☘
Feel like I’ve been waiting for this reaction as long as Stan waited for ems reply 🚙 lol Keep up the good work bro it’s dope to see you release more reactions.
This isn't a true story, however, Eminem has stated that he has gotten similar letters to these and that he made this song just for everyone to "chill out".
Well it's about time you reacted to Stan No this not a true story, it's just something Eminem thought of from meeting too many fans.. I would like to point out that Stan dyed his hair with peroxide at the beginning of the video, also they removed the audio of the girlfriend still screaming as the car was in mid air until it hits the water. Also Devin Sawa (Stan) the guy from the first Final Destination movie/Chucky's arch enemy is an incredible actor
@@whetboi i didn't spoil shit. I just gave context because I've seen some dumbass reactors reacting to the song completely clueless of what's happening.
1:14 lmaoo love how he breakdances to that ish… yes we 90s/Y2K kids was vibin and f***in up heavy lol.. the good ol days. Sad though when you move on and your best friend stays a Coke & Pillhead but laughs at you over occasional wine.. yeaaa love his music for life but that’s where I’d leave, her Mom was a pill poppin Stan too 😔and I had to watch everyone self destruct..time changes ppl…1998-2017 rip
Man iMan I just LOVE to watch how you GenZ kids react to Eminem's lyrics and videos. Imagine watching and hearing this when you are 17 or 22 back in 2000's. These songs leave a big stamp on people souls and hearts.
I’m a 47 year old man. Was in my early 20’s when I first heard Eminem. It’s crazy how fast time has gone. I’m loving how the next generation is into him. I’m also stunned that most people dont know how the word stan originated. Times a weird thing. 💜👊
By the way, the guy who portrays Stan in this clip is Devon Sawa, main protag from the movie Final Destination and human form of Casper McFaddent in 1995 Casper.
I remember when this video came out the guy who portrays Stan had also just starred in the first, "The Final Destination" movie. He was relatively popular at the time.
yessss! the reaction i’ve been waiting for!!!!!! ur the only reaction videos i can watch… its like im experiencing the songs for the first time all over again! makes me happy seeing new stan’s being born and understanding!!! 🎉🥰
Thanks for this one, glad you understand it all more now. This is and has always been one of my favourite em tracks, looking forward to your reactions to the rest of this amazing album
i'm 39 now and in my youth, in eastern europe here, there was stan every day on tv channel, and what we learnt from it was that in communication, do not believe how things appear, do not believe your assumptions, assume == ass u me It was a powerful message.
"When you make an assumption you make an ass out of you and me." You got it right I'm just writing it all out for those who haven't heard the saying before.
Came across your channel yesterday.. it’s great to see a new generation enjoying the genius of Em as I did when he first came on the scene.. can’t wait to see more of your reactions especially from this album 👌
Holy shit I have never noticed Stan in the window of the tour bus before! Good eye. I absolutely love watching you hear these songs for the first time. You react just like we did! This was serious and we all just sat and listened like 😮
Congrats on 30k! Fun Fact: at the end of the song after Eminem says “it was you, damn” you can see Stan in Marshall’s window when the lightning strikes (Idk if you saw this I commented it before the end of your reaction)
Haha! I got chills at the same time you did and I've already heard this song many times. Also, I never noticed the window at the end. Great observation, man
Hearing you say he went too far with the tattoo was hilarious bc it was just starting 😆 especially bc you paused right before the wrist line 🤣 thank you for your content, it's fun to relive these moments as a long time fan
10:54 omg i never noticed that stan is in the reflection! i know that fucking music video for 24 years!!! thanks for pointing that out!!! this gave me the chills!!!
Lots of good points made here in the comments .. another thing I wanted to point out was the actress in the video is actully Dido, the woman singing. The chorus is a sample from her song "Thank You". Just found you today.... LOVING the reactions!! I'm leaving comments all over the place so don't mind meeeeee ........ NEEEEXT video! hahaha
Im a gen z and love eminem. The only reason im late on him is cause i havent rly seen his msuic get back a while back. I first saw him with the without me song.
Unfortunately that's how it goes I watched a video of this guy before and almost got mad but realized that we've all been there every generation has their music even though I personally think the Gen Z music is trash but that's just my objective opinion
Pay attention to the little brother's face when that line drops, he looks super bored both during the concert AND outside waiting for him. He was trying to gult trip Em while downplaying his own infatuation/obsession
The fact that there were minimum pauses until the actual punchline hits or the verse ends... it's not just yapology reaction but actual interest.. love this channel.. good stuff bro
There is a part 2 of this song, it's called "Bad Guy" and it's being written from Stan's little brother, he grew up from 2000, "Bad Guy" was released in 2013
Its not only Stan appearing at the end of the clip on the flash at the mirror, its also that the the bass when the beat drops is exactly in sync with the flashes. Its an amazing effort for details
That opening is an immediate classic. Think Slim did more to put that Dido verse into public mind than her original song (which is also good, not sure if a lot of folks have heard it though). Really sets the tone for what's to come in the actual song.
Been waiting for more reactions brother! Glad to see you're back! PS: Stan = Stalker Fan ST-alker f-AN That bs dictionary definition is garbage. Someone needs to fix it. Stan is not just a big time fan. They're stalkerish.
One of the best story telling songs of 2000s onwards. This song is the reason why we call people stans, literally in the dictionary because of this track right here. Legendary
in all the years I watched this video, I never noticed stan in the window. holy shit, chills. also, I just noticed that he was wearing the eminem white tee fit in the "blistering" cold, when everyone else was bundled up. nuts
You recognize the chorus because not only did she do this song, but then she also did this song with just her, like a real song, and it was pretty huge. It showed up in movies and TV shows and commercials all the time
You were talking about him dying his hair..What's crazy is that in the mid 2000s, there were so many teenage dudes bleaching their hair and wearing the baggy white tees tryin to look like Em. It was a look for a while 😂
Dear Vert, I just discovered your channel like 30 minutes ago, and wondering "how this guy hasn't heard stan'', and you just uploaded the reaction... nah that's destiny or something, like we should be together too
Damn. Been seeing this video since the early 2000s and you just pointed out that Stan was in the window at the end. Never ever ever noticed that . Great reaction by the way.
You're reactions are great! A new generation understanding why, even if you don't like rap, everyone has at least one ballad they love from the Rap God. Gen X told you so!
Have you ever checked out "Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message"? It is a one of old school rap song around 80', you may love their message.
Spanish is my main language and I loved eminem as a kid (im 32 yo now), listened to him for the cool beat but couldn't understand the lyrics til I started studying english, felt the same way you did in this video.
It’s been 24 years since I first saw this video and I can honestly say I never once knew Stan was in the window at the end.. never noticed it. Bravo Verticle, bravo.
thanks to all the mfs SPOILING it in the COMMENTS i know there’s a stan sequel on MMLP2, can’t wait to listen to it 👁️👅👁️

Never noticed it either, did you notice the little brother dyed his hair to match his older bro who died?
Just noticed that
real
Yeah but now it just means obsessed fan
& Eminem fans are called Stans as a collective
OMG same ... I was a Stan before Stan existed. Bleached my hair and everything! But yeah, seen this a million times and never noticed. Glad I found this channel, his Eminem reactions are the best since NoLifeShaq 💯
I met Devon Sawa, the actor that plays Stan in the video, at a horror convention a few years back (he was also in the first Final Destination flim) and I had him sign a vinyl of the Marshall Mathers LP and write “Dear Slim, I wrote you but you still ain’t callin”
One of the coolest things I own! Almost cooler than having the record signed by Eminem himself
Thats fucking geniuss
Bro that is so cool!!
He was also in Idol Hands 😂😂.. ill neved forget that weird ass horror movie from the late 90s hahahah..
oh yeaaaaaaah i knew he looked familiar! holy shit!
Bro you sound like a Stan of Stan, lmao!
I never imagined 24 years ago that one day I'd be watching videos of a new generation listening to Eminem for the first time. This was the birth of a fan being a stan. You're reactions are mad genuine man. I went down the rabbit hole lol. Good stuff!
Same here! Secondhand joy of watching what we may have looked like when we realized what he was doing.
Same bro
Mate, I was thinking this but couldn’t put it into words. I remember when I was a teenager listening to to snoop and saying that one day this will be old school classic music and here we are. Same when I heard Em for the first time. Time flies
Watching stans being born, is my YT addiction at this point 😂
Same... this generation has no idea the lyrical genius EM truly is!!!!

This song and video are masterpieces and its funny you said it cuz I watched this video when it did its world premier on mtv 24yrs ago and I STILL get chills at the very end every time
This song is why 1) you will never, EVER hear millennials use the term 'stan' and 2) we were absolutely horrified that people started using it so casually. It literally means a fan that is completely UNHINGED. I'm so glad you got to experience this 🙂
Yes this. It makes me cringe when I hear people say “I Stan that” like bro that’s not what that means
Same with raw dogging for me. Like, no.
Same with most people especially millennials WOULD NOT DARE to drive/position behind the truck carrying logs. We all got same trauma
@@jadelainemist5550Is this a reference to Final Destination? The actor portraying Stan was in Final Destination.
@@jordan9604 I see you're a man of culture. **DiCarpio raise wine**
Bonnie“
He represents the type of person Em’s critics were afraid his influence would result in.
Genius
one of Eminem's greatest masterpiece. a story telling through rap. and the music video is a short film too. credit to Devon Sawa and Dido too.
Ey bro just stumbled across your channel yesterday. Im 30+ and its super cool to see you listen to these tracks. Your reactions are genuine and you have insightful shit to say but you also let the beats play out.
Mad respect and my only complaint is not enough videos! Lol keep it up boss
Shit gets dark here friend. The more times you listen, the scarier his commentary on fandom, and obsession getting out of control becomes.
What's wild is that these songs don't get old
The more time passes the more we see how amazing Eminem was. Like lyrically and visionary wise. Idk ppl didnt really see it that way back then
@@LaceFX His social commentary is unparalleled.
but we do =(
Rarely a song comes out which can be considered “PERFECT” this is one of those amazing moments… my mind was blown away by this and I had to sneak out of my room at night and put MTV on and wait hrs for the extended video to come on so you could hear the final verse as it was censored during day I was totally obsessed with it and the reflection im window at the end still makes my hair stand
stan wasn't in the dictionary, meaning what it does, before this song...this is how the term 'stan' was created..✌️
Fr 🔥
Good for you catching Stan in the window. So many people miss that. Brings it full circle.
Not gonna lie, I never noticed that part either. But it had me thinking..by that part of the song the "original" Stan is dead. Is that to show that there will (unfortunately) always be another "Stan"?
Finally, bro has been in hibernation
I'm just kidding, it's important you take a break for your mental health, u deserve it

I discovered reaction videos fairly recently and like them, but this young guy’s are the best I’ve seen by far. Love, love , love to hear his take on music I love.
🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️
Interesting to see your reaction today to the way Stan is portrayed and his weird behavior. It definitely made more sense in the cultural context of the time when it came out because of how massive Eminem was and how extreme the positive and negative reaction to his music was. You can see similar references to the intensity of the fans in The Way I Am when Em is telling fans to respect his privacy.
I've listened to Em from day 1 & it makes me happy seeing the younger generation react the way I did when I first heard it when it first came out. To borrow a quote. The best there is, the best there was & the best there ever will be
I gotta say Devon Sawa, the actor from movies like Casper & Final Destination, did a really great job at being Stan 😊
OH ITS HIM!
Finally bruh, Verti be edging us with them uploads.😭🙏🏼

Marshall is a GENIUS - off the scale! 'Stan' - one of the best songs/videos ever made, by any Artist from any genre. His rhyming schemes, flow, subject matter, his storytelling abilities, he's so autobiographical with his material not to mention his rapping skills.
Pissed at the spoilers in the comments! However, I highly recommend reacting to 'Bad Guy' (aka Stan pt2) - in my humble opinion it's UP THERE with 'Stan'. There's no video, just a lyric one, BUT I think that was intentional - Em wanted ppl to LISTEN to the 'story'....& the last verse, just WOW!🔥Look forward to your reaction!🤯
Eminem is an enigma - a labyrinth of puzzles within a riddle - that's why he's THEE GOAT!🐐
I've been lucky enough to have seen him in concert 3 times - UNBELIEVABLE!🤩
I'm a proud Irish Stan!☘
Feel like I’ve been waiting for this reaction as long as Stan waited for ems reply 🚙 lol Keep up the good work bro it’s dope to see you release more reactions.
This isn't a true story, however, Eminem has stated that he has gotten similar letters to these and that he made this song just for everyone to "chill out".

Bro now you GOTTA do Bad Guy. It's a sequel to this song. It's basically Stan's brother, Matthew, seeking revenge for his brother's death.

One of my favorite Eminem reactions of yours 😊 thank you!
One of the best rap song and music video ever.
Ps: thanks to you i first ever noticed stan at the end in the window 😍🔥
I remember when this video came out the guy who portrays Stan had also just starred in the first, "The Final Destination" movie. He was relatively popular at the time.

Thanks for this one, glad you understand it all more now. This is and has always been one of my favourite em tracks, looking forward to your reactions to the rest of this amazing album
Seen this video a million times and never noticed Stan in the window at the end wtf! Nice catch
i'm 39 now and in my youth, in eastern europe here, there was stan every day on tv channel, and what we learnt from it was that in communication, do not believe how things appear, do not believe your assumptions, assume == ass u me
It was a powerful message.
"When you make an assumption you make an ass out of you and me." You got it right I'm just writing it all out for those who haven't heard the saying before.
Love your reactions and everything Eminem ❤

Holy shit I have never noticed Stan in the window of the tour bus before! Good eye. I absolutely love watching you hear these songs for the first time. You react just like we did! This was serious and we all just sat and listened like 😮
Congrats on 30k!
Fun Fact: at the end of the song after Eminem says “it was you, damn” you can see Stan in Marshall’s window when the lightning strikes
(Idk if you saw this I commented it before the end of your reaction)
I just realized you did see him so I commented this for no reason 😭
That intro 🤣Love the energy!
Haha! I got chills at the same time you did and I've already heard this song many times. Also, I never noticed the window at the end. Great observation, man
The opening lyrics are a sample from the song Thank You by Dido.
No, it is not a real story. EMINEM is Genius .Now is time to listen to Bad Guy-
Definitely should watch The Up in Smoke Tour. one the of the best live rap gigs you will see.

Most underrated Em verse ever imo is in the song
B.o.B - Airplanes, Pt. 2 (Lyrics) ft. Eminem & Hayley Williams
If you're a fan of eminem, you're a stan
If you're a super fan of anything else, you Stan that thing.
These are both because of this one song.
Lots of good points made here in the comments .. another thing I wanted to point out was the actress in the video is actully Dido, the woman singing. The chorus is a sample from her song "Thank You". Just found you today.... LOVING the reactions!! I'm leaving comments all over the place so don't mind meeeeee

Unfortunately that's how it goes I watched a video of this guy before and almost got mad but realized that we've all been there every generation has their music even though I personally think the Gen Z music is trash but that's just my objective opinion
Finally he listening to my favourite song o my god 😂😂❤
I still remember your first Eminem reaction 😭😭I love these reactions so much man
Pay attention to the little brother's face when that line drops, he looks super bored both during the concert AND outside waiting for him. He was trying to gult trip Em while downplaying his own infatuation/obsession
"Bad Guy" song just proves you wrong.
The fact that there were minimum pauses until the actual punchline hits or the verse ends... it's not just yapology reaction but actual interest.. love this channel.. good stuff bro
I still get chills hearing this song. The emotions the story brings out will make it some sort of parable we tell our grandkids lol
Its an amazing effort for details
yayyy verti is backk i was beginning to think you left us 😔
the guy who portrayed stan in the music video is also a great actor. he was the main protagonist in final destination for example. great movie
That opening is an immediate classic. Think Slim did more to put that Dido verse into public mind than her original song (which is also good, not sure if a lot of folks have heard it though). Really sets the tone for what's to come in the actual song.
Been waiting for more reactions brother! Glad to see you're back!

in all the years I watched this video, I never noticed stan in the window. holy shit, chills.
also, I just noticed that he was wearing the eminem white tee fit in the "blistering" cold, when everyone else was bundled up. nuts
You recognize the chorus because not only did she do this song, but then she also did this song with just her, like a real song, and it was pretty huge. It showed up in movies and TV shows and commercials all the time
And ur hilarious btw! U make me bust out laughing several times during ur videos! Ur my favorite reactor 😂
