3D printing can be a pain at the start, even now I still get a fail here and there and it is frustrating. But you can work through it, just takes some time to learn.
I had an FDM printer for a few years and just bought a resin printer. Not subscribing for to many patreons is really important, i haven’t printed many models of the 2 of them i was subscribed to since late 2021
My biggest take with printing is don’t buy a fresh release printer. Buy one that’s been out for a while so all known bugs and hardware updates are sorted..
Nice video. I've experienced the stress of FDM printing looking to try resin printing and finding it looks more stressful. I'm still going for it but helps to know failures are normal in the process, and to study more to avoid them. Thanks
One thing I learned after getting my first printer is to get a printer, your first one, that others have. Don’t get an obscure or outdated one that nobody has or don’t have experience with. Choose one with a big community and support. Once you can print for a while, then maybe get that bespoke printer you want so bad.
All good stuff. I have been FDM printing for a while to support my RC habit, I have two printers and fairly dangerous around Fusion 360. I have been looking at resin printing for a wile for its great finishes compared to FDM. I may have an opportunity to get an Anycubic printer for cheap, and researching what I need to know for it. Videos like this are awesome, I would prefer to learn from someone else's mistakes, and pick up any tips that I can. Thanks for sharing.
I think it’s like anything used. You’ll save money, but there’s a risk if something doesn’t work you’ll have to solve it yourself unless it’s still under warranty. I personally wouldn’t unless I knew the person, but that’s my preference.
Career house painters have an increased risk of *bladder* cancer, of all things, because of the VOCs in paint. It's basically the same stuff being off-gased!
"You gotta pump those numbers up , those are rookie numbers" , started out with only free stuff , dont even have a patreon , only buy on sales. But I hadnt checked how bad it was until this video ... OVER 9000 !! Have 147 folders with 10757 files 708 GB
@@Habes Nothing is impossible ! It will only require 2 and a half lifetimes ;) But on a more serious note , anything before 2007 is probably going into the bin. Also knowing one guy who owns 7 printers helps.
Sorry for the confusion. One was about not buying more than you can print. The other was about how paid stls that a presupported can be a good place when you're starting out.
I think the point was not to subscribe to loads of STL creators, but don't avoid buying any at all, both to get better minis and reduce failure, and to support the artists.

Well said. Takes patience, which is easier said than done!
A failed print is just a war torn statue ;) Great video!
Love your videos! I’m new to this art form and I was feeling very intimidated but your videos have helped me to feel like I can do this!
Glad you found them helpful!

Yeah it’s a slippery slope 😅
Great Video, real talk, fun to watch, and most importantly .... informational! Thanks for helping us noobs lol!!!
Thanks Dave. Appreciate it :)

That is solid advice! Thanks Will!

Glad it could help! I think it depends, I've found resin not too bad, but struggling with my FDM printer.
@@Habes yeah, I need a better FDM printer, but I put enough money into it, I want to try resin printing. Keep up the videos, they’re a lot of help. 😎👍

That is a good point! You want to know there's a bunch of people who have solutions to the problems you might face with that printer.

Thanks so much. I’m glad my mistakes can help.
That was great, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I NEED to know what that model at 2:38 is, I have a deep sea themed Nurgle army going and that thing you were printing looked amazing.

Would you recommend buying a used printer?

#1 advice, learn to 3d model or 3d sculpt. Making your own things from your own imagination is 90% of the fun!
It’s something I’m looking into, but just don’t have the time for. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, didn’t know that. 😮
Ah FOMO ... I have 150+ Go of files and I probably won't buy my printer before September ... (most of them free and some from subscriptions)
Yeah wow. All the best when you start printing!
