What happened if the locked proprietary setting does not work on your specific environnement also I know with the heater normally it is more under control but still I see variation between people using same resin same printer because temp and humidity is different.
Also what happen if you want to print with very specific resin ultracraft is not offering like some rubber like resin or nylon like ultra sturdy resin that can’t be destroyed (well this is what the brand is saying 😂) from a specific vendor…

$65 for 1kg of resin is still 3 times what I've been paying for Sunlu ABS Like (which I regularly find 2kg bottles on amazon for $40). Dialing in a resin is a one time cost. Once you've got it dialed in, you don't have to spend more time on it with every new bottle. I think your position as a reviewer of these machines (and resins) where you're always having to dial stuff in skews your perception of what most people who print to supply their hobby (instead of printing as a hobby), which is find one or two resins they like, dial them in once, and never have to bother with it again. Over time, the extra cost HeyGears resins (and the single point of failure if HeyGears makes changes you don't like) is just far more expensive than a couple days spent dialing in a new resin that is likely to be the only resin you use.

I just don't see it. I mean, certainly it's the best printer if money is no object. But resin printing isn't like FDM printing- It's already a lot easier. When the Bambu X1 was new and Bambu's only offering, it was a terrific upgrade over the various $200-$500 ender 3 derivatives that had the market locked up. But comparing HeyGears to Elegoo's offerings, I feel like HeyGears has priced themselves above the prosumer market and into the lowest end of the enterprise market.

Trust me - as someone who has owned just about every big brand and many of the more niche ones in all different sizes - it's not even in the same galaxy as EVERY single other consumer resin printer on the market. Quality of hardware, quality of prints, ease of use, how good the slicer is... I have the pulsing release module and it allows you to make your support contacts so unbelievably small that minis not only look the best of any printer I've ever used - there is next to no clean up. It's just that good.

    • @matthewhaworth5935

The only downside is I wish the plate was bigger & the resins were cheaper but heygears new prototype resin is $45/KG and it's just as good as their $60/KG mini specific resin imo and they're both some of the best miniature resins I've used on the market. Super high detail and yet more durable and flexible than most ABS likes. Also after dealing with companies like Phrozen and elegoo my jaw almost dropped when I first got my reflex and 50 micron wasn't an option for some reason with the miniature resin (PAP10). I submitted a ticket right through the slicer and had a message back AND it was fixed in the slicer with an update in less than 2 HOURS. After years of dealing with most of the consumer resin printer companies I simply forgot that customer service and a company that appreciates you even AFTER you bought their product could exist. It is hands down the best printer you can buy right now. Sure, it's expensive. But if you have the money you won't regret pulling the trigger. The only downside is you'll never be able to go back to the slop we've been fed from all the "competitors". Ps - you can go back to faux hammers first video on this printer and find a comment from me bashing the crap out of it. After bad experiences with all the other printers out there I gave the reflex a shot and I'm a true believer now.

    • @ZeeLobby
      @ZeeLobby 2 месяца назад

@@mrfoameruk For me and the easy integration? Yes. I engineer parts with different properties and would probably swap around within the ecosystem. There's also a guarantee here that if they change the formula it'll just work. There are tons of examples on r/resinprinting of people buying the exact same resin, same brand, and having to tweak their settings. Or settings differing from machine to machine. Now whether that's due to environmental factors, inconsistency in resin production or inconsistency in machine production I have no clue. But obviously with this pricetag the expectation is that consistency will be exact. It's the difference of going with a company that entered a more hobbyist price point from professional and those that chase bottom budget and came from FDM or other budget printers. Heygears support is also supposedly phenomenal.
As a side there's also been videos of people using other resin brands in these printers by simply filling the vat, so that's always another option if mass producing more budget prints with a resin that works at the same settings is available.

Do you want to reward a company that does this? I dont. Would you have bought this printer if you did not get it for free? Which is why I refuse to support this entire brand. Its not for the average person. They should stick to their original target audience of printer farms/businesses.
any machine that doesn't let me use any resin I want or even let me adjust settings to my liking is DOA. The machine is expensive, the resin (even their cheap resin) is expensive compared to the market. No point to this machine unless you are running a print farm. If you are in that very specific user case than yes no question this is a great printer. But for the average hobbyist the price tag and proprietary consumables is too much.

resins needing different settings is a problem, but the solution is not "buy this printer that requires its own special resin and hope resin you like works"
the solution needs to be standardizing. fdm printers don't have proprietary fdm functions, they simply just standardized. buying an fdm printer usually means it'll work as intended even if you have one of the more fiddly ones. What happens when this company cant make resin anymore? This is the problem. i don't want to spend a grand or more on a printer with a shelf life.

Should be noted the Formlabs Form4 for the basic unit is $4,499.00 versus the Ultracraft Reflex for $1,399 = but if you use the code for 200 off its down to $1,199 and thats with 2 bottles of resin. So there is a huge difference for sure.
The Formlabs resin for the Form4 is $99 per liter = ouchie. HeyGears resin for pac10 is about $45. So I think Formlabs just priced themselves out of the hobby printing market twice over; one on the printer itself and two, with the overpriced resin.
Now that some people have used third party resins successfully with the Ultracraft Reflex, we are seeing another reason to possibly buy their printer besides the awesome self supports. For now I will use my Saturn 3 Ultra for a couple of years at least then look and see if HeyGears makes a larger build area unit.

@theVariedLife Well, one is designed as a hobby tool, while the other is designed as an industrial machine. They really aren't the same, but I see as a hobby version of the Form4, with obviously a lot less features.
I thought of buying this printer, but after realizing that the k8ts I make require mechanical tolerances, I chose the way more expensive printer. Yes, it's a tough sale, but now having people pay me to print kits in IMO the best resin out there by far, it's afforded me the purchase price.

The level of clean detail that thing achieves is just stunning! As for the resin price, I feel compelled to ask - how much production does a bottle of their resin get you? I know the answer is likely, "How long is a piece of string?", because it'll depend on what you're printing. I just think it would be interesting to see how many things, say minis for example, can be printed using a single bottle of resin. Kind of like, how many orcs are in a bottle of resin? You know? Just looking at their website, $2389 for the printer, the wash station, and the cure cupboard isn't too bad, considering what this thing will do. For making tiny stuff, resin printers in general just can't be beat. Can you imagine one with a build plate the size of an X1-Carbon? Now THAT would be cool!!

Ugh, I hate resin printing, even though I got back into it. But, 80% of what I hate about it is dealing with failures and spending forever wearing a gas mask to do cleanup. I don't think I will ever get around the HAZMAT requirements of resin printing, but I think it would make a huge difference to not have so many blasted failures. It is really tempting to save up for one of these and give it a shot.

For me the biggest concern really is the printer being locked to propietary resin. Of course I don't expect it to be anything more than a bog standard printer woth a 3rd party resin, but having the option is nice. Otherwise you have to trust the company will outlive the printer, won't use their leverage to raise prices, and will continue to provide product and service for your specific usecase. Whereas if I can use and tweak the printer like a regular one with 3rd party resin, suddenly I've got an amazing tool that doesn't become useless or harder to use than a typical resin printer if something happens to the proprietary resin supply. Options reduce risk, and the risk is scary, whether it's a realistic risk or not.

Just click print like i would on a 2d printer, and there it is. I dont give a fuck if the resin is x2 the normal cost. I've been printing for 4 years now, and I'd estimate that half the resin I've paid for was used on exposure tests, failed prints, vat cleaning because of failures, and supports that were bigger than they needed be.

But I got the x1 Carbon for the same reasons you've listed, and they are similar prices. Now that the resin prices are lower I'm very tempted. I just wish there was a wash and cure station that was affordable and wasn't jank or hand made. I'd probably still get the heygears set, but maybe much later than the actual printer itself.

Well I just bought it all, with the discount the sell for me is the lowering of the resin and more is coming out at lower prices
If I don’t have to sit here and worry about if a have supports are right, slicers adding useless features.
Which most are useless pre-supporting as a joke on all the slices they even tell you this outright.
I used to get my resin figures from China from E 2046 would take a month or so to get here a larger process, but it was high-quality
But if you messed one up, you were SOL
My idea of buying a 3-D printer as I can get the same figures pretty much and if I break one of the paint job comes out like shit with a 3-D printer, I can front now I don’t have to pay for a monthly slicer they seem to have great Tech-Support and I will sell my printers plus I know you can use other third-party resins, which are all try when I run out of the ones I bought so look at it this way
The prices of printers are going up of decent ones anyway they keep adding new gadgets slowly the GK 3 if you didn’t get the early bird is $1599 ultracraft reflex with the coupon by itself $1199.
So what makes more sense a printer that gives you perfect print you don’t have to spend so much time supporting and hoping
The other things they sell, you could probably live without. I happen to like the car station because it says the information from the printer to the car station and calculate how much time but that is a lot of money
So anybody thinking about buying a new printer like the GK3 go with this one instead

I agree that the reliability that proprietary resin and software provides is amazing, but in this case the resin, at least for me is still too expensive. This is also coming from someone who owns a gktwo, and is willing to spend money on quality product with qol features, but if I am running through 10 l of resin in 2-3 month, the math is not mathing.

Couple reasons, first off, there's no way on God's green earth I'd lock myself into proprietary resin. Especially when it's twice the price of other resins out there. Then there's the small build plate. I do statues. Any time I save on the front end, I'll spend on the back end filling seams. And last, I'm retired. I have more time than money. I don't have an issue dialing in the settings for a couple resins.

Just trying to save money on the resin. I was thinking if I can get thinner walls with the same accuracy, then maybe I can fill the model with a two-part casting resin (cheaper than the heygears resin) to compensate for any weakness of the walls. It is encouraging to see a shift toward a more user-friendly style of printer, but until you can put any resin in to the machine and have it calibrate itself; it's not comparable to the Bambu model. All you're getting for the high price tag is a printer that's locked to specific presets. Bambu price their machines very reasonably along with the smart calibration features, which is what has made them so successful.
Also... It's hard to see how this could be considered a "support my hobby" machine when you could buy enough miniatures to keep you going for a couple of years for the same price.

But for those who are in the market and serious enough to lay down $1,400, this is very valuable information. You've hit upon the philosophy perfectly. I want a user experience from soup to nuts that is clearly superior to the alternatives at the price or under, and I'm willing to spend more to get it. for me, i bought an ender 3 pro a few years ago and started printing anything and everything. what i didnt realize was the amount of failed prints, calibrations, upgrades, recalibrating the upgrades, etc etc all made me go insane because the 3d printing wasnt supplementing my life or my hobbies, it WAS the hobby. its kind of like buying a prius and then trying to turn it into a ferrari because you like driving racecars. its affordable, and you potentially could do it, but the amount of time you waste makes you wonder if theres a better way

I think a lot of people already own a printer and know very well what it means to own a printer. Most probably found this channel when they searched for reviews for deciding what printer they would buy.
And that is why people recognize that this review is extremely biased.
A lot of people are willing to spend some extra money to have less failed prints and in general make their life easier. Bamboo seems to do that with only slightly higher prices. And without any drawbacks. (I have two resins printers, so maybe I miss something important on the Bamboo printers?)

I would love to have this printer, but I just can't spend over a grand on a printer to make my toys. And this one costs 2 grand (AUD).
Why does it have to cost 2 or 3 times as much as an 'ultra' model in the cheaper brands?
If it were like 20% more than an ultra... maybe even up to 50% more... I would entertain the idea. But its too much and I'm too poor.

    • @MayaTlab
      @MayaTlab 2 месяца назад

I can't say for certain that it costs 2 to 3 times more to make than superficially comparable printers, but internally it's quite different from the sort of stuff you see in printers like the S4 Ultra. Truly custom board (with seemingly zero Chitu influence), better stepper motor, ball screw with multiple bearings on the Z axis, numerous NFC sensors for the recognition of various parts / bottles, integrated power supply, force sensors on each corners of the floating screen platform, individually calibrated / compensated LCD screen, heated vat, etc. A lot of it seems quite custom. I don't think that a 20% increase in BOM compared to the S4U is realistic TBH, it's likely to be more than that. If you want to have a rapid look at its internals you can look at the FCC documentation.
Where I do think they could make a bit of an effort in terms of pricing their items more proportionally to the BOM is some of the accessories. It's difficult for me to see how the PRM vat should cost this much more than the regular vat (even taking into account the genuinely harder to make release film stack), or why the PRM itself is that expensive (it's just an air pump), same for the LED calibration module, which is more than three times more expensive than Chitu's UV meter (OK it operates on a different wavelength but still...).

Still a hard pass for me. I was interested at the start because I thought you were here to tell us they came to their senses and lowered the insane prices of their resin. But if offering 1 single type of resin at a somewhat reasonable price is enough to make you do a complete 180 on your previous comments..... it comes off pretty bad. Considering you are financially motivated to convince us now.
As others pointed out, what stops them from raising the price in 6 months to match the others? What happens of they go under, or otherwise stop production of the resins? This is a LOT of money for a person to risk without addressing these major issues.
Please don't take this as a "waaaaah, you're a shill" comment. Just stating that the optics of this don't come off great.

I’m not sure why anyone is reading into this anymore than what I said or what the optics are bad… I don’t really care how it “looks” to some people. Most have seen that my comments here do not negate what I previously said.
But also, this new resin is great, I love it fur minis and being sub £50 is a much easier ask than more than £70
No if you still don’t want this because of proprietary resin… that’s fair, I still support your choice, I always want people to buy what is right for them…
But, how else would you do it. Other have suggested… open this up to other resins… but then you loose the main value of what this system offers… so why do it?
I also suspect, as I said, they are selling the machine at a loss to make it back on the so even if you wanted this hardware, but more open. I suspect you’d be looking at 3K or more for the machine alone…
So if this is not for you. Please. Do not buy it
But the fact to be aware of is that this is the best resin printer, and there are plenty of people out there who would pay for it and the resin fir the Bambu-like experience of drag-drop-support-print…

It's definitely a luxury, but if your budget can stand it, how much would you pay to a) have someone come over and dial in every bit of your settings from exposure to lift speed/distances, wait times, etc, knowing they have it exactly optimal, AND b) do custom supports on every mini with extraordinarily small contacts/little clean up. For me, the one-time $ hit and price of premium resin, which I use anyway, is totally worth it. I know it's a luxury, but looking forward to the reliable quality and time-saving.

Oh please... "THIS" is your business... using YT for monetization and for reviews, also to get paid by your affiliate links. You're a professional freelance salesman for-hire, for anyone and whoever the printer company of the week is... YT is your work office. You're NOT doing this for us, so we get the printer we want... you're doing this for you, so you get the lifestyle you want.

    • @FauxHammer

And the way I do that is by you getting the printer you want and using my links to do it.
This is the best resin printer out there. Proove me wrong.
But you don’t need to buy it.
And printer if the week. WTF are you on about….? Go and actually watch some other reviews where I have warned against many other printers.
You o realise you can watch this review and not have to want the same thing as me. Just because I like this for what it does. Doesn’t mean you need to…
So calm the hell doen. Get off your high-horse and try seeing this for what it is. A video about this printer
Now go and make your own “more-educated” decision.
I’m genuinely sick of dealing with this type of attitude from people who don’t understand what reviews are…

@@FauxHammer Lol... bullocks. This isn't a review channel, but a business. I don't care that people make money on YT, but I do care HOW they make it, and you exploit your viewers. You push printer after printer from whatever company that will send you product or offer you an incentive for you, and that's a lot! Feed your family, but don't prey on people's naiveite or impulse buying, and profit from taking advantage of them. I bet you are sick of comments like mine... we're vocal about educating people that many, not all, but many of their favorite YTers are nothing more than prostitutes for hire, pushing whatever product that you, and the companies you're in bed with make money. This is NOT a review channel, but a multi-affiliate link business, that uses "reviews" as a tool to manipulate viewers.
      You can't prove me wrong.

Aren't Orks already pretty much Mad Max? I mean, unless you're a big fan of the movie, could you pick a Mad Max car out of a Speed Freaks army? But I digress
As others have said, I'm sure this is a top of the line printer. But the proprietary resin and even more so the price just keeps it from being a realistic option. I recently picked up a Bambu Labs A1, partly due to your suggestions. But it wasn't just ease of use that guided me there, but also the price. Likewise I'm hoping to get a resin printer on Black Friday this year, but an Elegoo Mars or maybe even Saturn is much, much more likely (again, largely due to your videos) that this.
That said, I can appreciate enjoying solid engineering and a good product. It's nice to see what top of the line can get you.
Thanks for the content and looking forward to meeting you at Gen Con!

It's 2024 and proprietary printing material is back from the dead. Hard pass. This definitely looks like the Bambu of resin though, in the same way that Bambu are slowly rotting FDM printing from the inside out with shady practices and lock-in.

Let's agree to disagree. I can't support a locked-in resin printer. I'm starting to wonder how real these reviews are becoming and whether they are financially motivated. Most of us are regular people who don't print in big resin farms and just want the best product for a reasonable price. I find your channel is slowly slipping away from what I liked in the beginning.
I like your honest approach, but lately I'm feeling more suspicious of the intent.

It's interesting you mentioned that as I contacted Heygears to get some cooperation on an engineering product I'm designing, where I would review the printer and materials in an engineering product development setting. From the 14 replies back and forward, it would look like Heygears were worried about such an engineering review and decided not to go with the cooperation. Now if I was printing mini's I'm sure they would have taken the offer.

As someone considering just getting into 3D printing, there is a lot here that appeals to me. With all of the reviews I seen on this machine & ecosystem, there are a few questions I haven't seen addressed:
Is there any sort of exhaust or filtration?
Given the sluice and autofill, how is cleaning the machine?
Any insight on warranty and replacement part costs/intervals vs. others?
Consensus seems to be that the auto support features of the software are excellent, but how are the tools for hollowing and drainage?
And finally, while the curing station is nice it is absurdly expensive and the wash station is problematic, what curing and washing stations would you recommend that will easily work with this build plate and area?

I am in the market for a 3d printer… my first! Though I’ve sculpted for years in Zbrush for illustration reference. I’ve put off 3d print because of the hassle. However, the resin cost hasn’t been one of the issues. See, we’ve lived with regular printers for decades that cost a fortune in inks, and a bit on paper. And it’s proprietary … canon. So for me it just sounds sensible economics to make a loss leader printer but tie you into resin.

Impress me: 1. Add a clamp in release film. Taking out and putting in 40+ screws is stupid. 2. Add a step in the wash container for the build plate. 3. Make the UI easy and as self-explainable as possible. And finally, 4. Provide a GOOD manual with complete instructions. If I have to google something for your product, it is not a good manual.

I'm still wringing the most I can out of an original Elegoo Mars - but will upgrade at some point. HeyGears is certainly on my radar, but one cheap resin in their range doesn't cut it. I often want to print unpainted parts, which means using a resin in an appropriate colour. Unfortunately, their coloured resins are twice the price of the affordable one. It's not like I go through gallons of the stuff, but just being able to have a choice will cost me a significant amount.

I guess it depends what you wanna spend your time doing constantly adjusting and trying to dial-in on every different resin that you use, I would go the extra mile and just say let me make figures so I can paint them easy Peezy
