    When Bendpak sent my 2 post lift, they also sent this BL-5000 to check out. It's a more affordable and practical solution for the home garage or small shop. This thing is AWESOME. Kinda makes me wish I had looked into one of these years ago. It really didn't take all that much to set it up. There was a small issue fastening the motor to the carrier, but that was solved by drilling 2 new holes into the assembly. I've notified Bendpak about this issue and they're looking into it. Honestly that was a very moderate modification and it only took a couple of minutes to rectify. That said, this is a great lift for the DIY or small shop. Or you can bring it to the track to do quick repairs between runs. It's very portable and easy to use. All you need is 110V to plug into and you're ready to go.
    Yes, you did hear me correctly. I will be giving this lift away to 1 lucky winner at this years 4th annual 'Meet Up'. The winner will be randomly drawn at the event. You must be present to win. There is no cost to enter other than showing up. If you plan on attending, please sign up here. Details on location and time are also included at this link.

      From the looks of it, the construction is robust enough and with adequate safely devices I don't think there is much chance for suing. Unless your are referring to copyright issues?

      Skauber I have one it goes up about 24 inches so depending on how high your vehicle sits off the ground it might work for you. Also it is rated for 5,000 pounds so you might be able to put some little wood blocks or something like that also beside the rubber ones to get more height out of it.

    Make sure your Teflon tape is rated for oil. Some tape will degrade if you get oil/trans fluid on it.
    Tearing the teflon tape is supposed to pull the tape into the treads, and give a better seal, but I still get about a 25% failure rate. The paste generally seems to work a bit better. Judging by the little puddles of oil near the QD connectors, I guess I'm not alone there.

    Wonderful product that's gotten many improvements. The locking mechanism has been improved and the length has increased from 60" to 66". The optional accessories include: larger blocks, pinch weld blocks and adjustable SUV and Truck lifts. Works well in small areas. The T-Bird loves the attention it is now getting. There is no fluid leakage when disconnecting the hoses or when in storage. One note on setup and operation do not overfill the reservoir or forget to loosen the vent cap prior to operation.
    Have fun if you own one, it will make home vehicle maintenance less tedious.

    EricTheCarGuy that sound when the lift is reaching the top of travel the "sputtering" sound and also the lift slowing down.. it means the pump is starving for fluid.. I'd check the level of atf fluid again might help a bit.. they say 2 quarts but I wonder if there taking into account fluid in the lines and the little bit of fluid in the cylinders..

    Eric, The easy way to apply Teflon tape. Hold the fitting in your left hand and have your right index finger through the tape roll with the tap unrolling from the top. Pinch the end of the tape against the fitting with your left thumb and using your right thumb as a drag brake on the reel orbit the fitting as if you were tightening a nut onto the fitting. Three or four turns and you're finished, cut or tear the tape.

    Another option around the same price would be a scissor lift. I've been using a harbor freight scissor lift for about 3 years now. Built like a tank (1000# or so). Use the 25% off coupon.

    its actually safer to lift your vehicle as one unit. Sure Jack stands and a jack are cheaper but your jack stands could tilt and fall over when raising the other side of your vehicle.

    Hey Eric, I am an automotive mechanic by education/training but have recently started working on forklifts and industrial equipment. If I had to guess at that compressed air you added I would say it is for an accumulator of sorts which acts as a shock absorbers in a way to smoothen the hydraulic movement and keep it from jolting sharply when you engage the hydraulic pump.
    TLDR, air is compressible, is a cushion.

    Dude.....you forgot to bleed the system! I noticed they were going up uneven, that could be dangerous shaking up a car when it goes up. You gotta bleed per the instructions and make sure you have no more then 50 psi !

    One important caution from a fellow QuickJack user. I am writing this in several places on RUclips so fellow users can avoid a potentially dangerous situation wherein the QJ acts like it is locked, but actually is not.
    I LOVE my QuickJack BLX-5000, and when properly locked I'm totally happy being underneath it, but beware its "false lock" state.
    I unwittingly discovered a "false lock" state can be created which supports a vehicle, but can unpredictably break free. The usual locking mechanism works well and is very solid and stable. However, if you advance the QJ up just a little further before going back down to engage the locking bar, the cam can also pass over the stop point. When you go down with cam also past the locking point, instead of jamming the locking bar's cup into the locking point, the CAM can jam instead. That "false lock" did support my car's weight, but it is through the cam and its pivot pin instead of the secure lock normally created by the locking bar. The false lock looks OK from a distance, and it supported 4,000 lbs. It's just not at all secure. The cam can unpredictably pivot upward out of of the stop and the cam's pivot hinge is taking all the load. Just one nudge of the car and it could break free.
    Always go up until ONLY the end of the locking bar gets past a stop. Never let the cam also go over a stop point before going down into lock.
    In my opinion the cam should be reshaped so it can NEVER jam against a stop to create a "false lock." This simply should not be possible. When mine broke free, the locking bar luckily caught against the stop as the QJ dropped. Thankfully, I had noticed the lock looked a litle odd. I wasn't under the car and the drop didn't unsettle the lift blocks.
    I have reported this unsafe condition to QuickJack and also filed a report with CPSC.gov (20201128-2FEEE-2147367840) to help ensure proper follow up. The safest solution would be to reshape the cam so it simply can never form a "false lock" and retrofit all existing Quickjacks with new "false lock" proof cams.

  • @mike73ng

      @@RockandrollNegro - The higher final price is determined by the final seller/brand. All these are "made in China" and sold for pennies, out of the factory floor! So they cut costs as much as possible.

      +kwik keys If you want to use something like this professionally IMO get longer hoses so you never have to deal with the quick disconnects and can leave the power unit in your vehicle. I work with and around quick disconnects and they spill a little fluid every time, these look like they spill quite a bit more than usual for some reason, look at the pools under the car. :-/

    After watching many reviews on this, including yours, I see 2 major issues. The first is one that A LOT of people complain about, which is, this thing leaks like a stuck pig. The second is that you have to slide it under your car to position it, then slide it out to remove it. When you slide painted or in this case powder coated metal on concrete or asphalt, the ground surface acts much like sand paper and will completely remove the finish, which as we all know will lead to rust and the eventual failure of the lift. I have also seen a few videos where people replace the noisy casters. Overall I think the idea is a nice one, but it just wasn't very well designed.

    I know what I'm saving up for!!! Right now I pay a baptist church to use their parking lot when I do large repairs on my own stuff.. All I have is a gravel driveway at home and let me tell you there's nothing more nerve wrecking than jacking a car up on gravel(you just hope the stands are on solid footing, and hope isn't necessarily a good standard when dealing with 1-2 ton vehicles)..

    Eric, good job. I bought the BL3500 for my 59' Triumph TR3. I'm going to start to assembly it tomorrow. My first complaint, and hopefully my only one is the instruction manual. It looks like it came off a 60 year old xerox machine that was running out of ink. the photographs/pictures were terrible. I went to their wedsite and download the manual as a PDF and it was much clearer, but that won't help too much in my garage. If that's my only problem I'll just check back on your video. Good job.

    I have recently brought a house with a garage and im planning on changing the diff and various engine and transmission mounts over the next few months and this looks ideal for me. Even more ideal in that i drive a Honda s2000 where alot of the ramp solutions wont work because of low ground clearance. This looks excellent and will make jobs like servicing my GF's car easy. Its not cheap but when you look at two posters etc this ramp isn't competing with those. Its aimed at either racers or people who want to have an easy jacking solution they can store in there garage.Only issue for me is that im in the UK and these cost $1400 just for the BL3500

    It would be a little messy the first time, but I make all of the line connections except at the cylinders and run the pump to push most of the air out of the lines the first time. Air in the system is why it is jerky at first. You also have to be careful to properly use use adjustable position o-ring boss fittings to not push the o-ring onto the thread which can cause them to leak. I also avoid teflon tape on hydraulic threads, I use Loctite 569 hydraulic thread seal. I am sure they avoid mentioning these items to keep the instructions simple.

      Cannot recommend this company or product; After dealing with the leaking hoses since I got the product;
      The oil has gotten on to my tires and affected the cars braking ability.
      Luckily I was in the alley and coming to a bend with no cars and was able to wipe and use brake-cleen to get rid of the oil.
      Since then I have contacted Quick-Jack who insists that I pay for new hoses.
      I'm out of warranty by two weeks when I contacted them,
      They took two weeks to respond then said I was a month out of warranty.
      Very bad business Practice;
      I don't recommend for the price nor for the service;

    not sure if this has been said, but the locking bar I think should be loose. it should auto drop into the groves for either of those locking positions. so it won't accidentally drop. just my guess. ok, know that I saw how it came down, I can see why you tighten it up.

  • @jetjazz05
    @jetjazz05 9 лет назад

    For the safety arms it would have been nice if they'd also put a magnet on the bar that it folds up next to. That way rather than just relying on a tight bolt to keep it from falling back down while you're lowering it the magnet would actually hold it in place making sure it didn't go anywhere.

    im happy to see how cheap this and the big lift are. I was guessing they were 10k +. Kinda of a reasonable dream tool now. I saw they were about 2.8k and 900$ thanks for sharing

    Only negatives to QJ is the insanely heavy weight of each side. I smash my fingers each time I use it. Also they do not lay down that far. My 64 Corvette always scrapes its bottom (dual stock exhaust pipes) on the QJ. 90 deg fittings on cylinders sometimes rotated to where they leaked. You did not show the bleeding of air out of the cylinders. Rather exciting if a bleeder screw comes all the way out. Shot clean across the garage in my case. Hit me in the finger and that hurt. I have the 7000 EXT. I also use hydraulic oil rather than ATF.

    You could drill holes into the locking arms and put pins through them to keep them from falling

    Smashing idea eric :-)), essentially two floor jacks in a clever framework :-)).
    Im not sure i like the loose rubber blocks, but im just picky.

    • @eriklarson9137

      Those rubber blocks were super sketchy. Maybe if they had a groove in them for the seam to slide in to. But, no way would I use them as is.

    your supposed to bleed those cylinders out with the air you put in it it helps the fluid get into the rams thats the reason for the 50 psi in each ramp

    Good video mate. Don't you think you should have used silicone spray/lubricant instead of hydraulic fluid on the O-rings of the fittings as it would prevent degradation yet lube the installation? Cheers.

    IMHO I noticed the hoses come out the front I thought it would have been better that they came out the side,
    so they wouldn't be in the way when you are rolling around underneath the vehicle.

    Teflon tape is for tapered plumbing type fitting and remember to put it on the same direction you screw the female on it (clockwise)

    • @DaTwistedOne1
      @DaTwistedOne1 8 лет назад

      +Edward Blackburn Not necessarily true. Tapered fittings are meant to "seal themselves) do to the wedge it creates, not to mention you're suppose to use paste type sealant. A parallel thread should always have teflon tape, no matter the application.

    • @carhead9397
      @carhead9397 8 лет назад

      yes and plumbers have been using thread sealers forever on pipe threads IE tapered.any other type of fitting has a seat as in flared and compression and the tape only interferes with seating

    Of course this early design had to be redesigned to fix the hydraulic fluid leaking out of the quick connect fittings. The crappy safety bar was also redesigned. New part numbers end with SLX. Also spend an extra $150 and get the 7000# model. It's worth it for the piece of mind if your underneath it.

    You do NOT want to raise them to full height without a load on top of them or they will become stuck there. It only says that about 5 times in the manual.
    Edit: Jesus man read the manual. You DON'T tighten the support nuts on the side of the locking arms, they are supposed to be a bit loose to ensure proper travel as you raise and lower the jacks.

    great review Eric! but what about the fluid spilling when you disconnect the hoses? is that something to take into account? also a small video production tip - use the gradual volume increase in the beginning of the intro, otherwise it just blasts out of the speakers as soon as the video starts.

      The connections is similar to those you would find on a tractor and agricultural equipment... Those fittings is valves that closes when you disconnet them...

    in the video it appears that the fittings leaked (see 13:52 & 15:14). Can you tell me if that was the threaded part of the connector or the quick-connect?
    Thanks. - Thumbs up!

    For the safety locks, magnets would seem better to keep them in the up position without having to keep them tightened stiffly (is that a word?, but that is something anyone could add to the unit to add the extra convenience.
