For me it’s the pause followed by the laugh and sudden change of voice. I completely buy him as an unstable person who just realized he crossed a line with a stranger and is trying to save face and regain control of the situation, in a way that’s both pathetic and *almost* convincing enough to make you doubt your own eyes. Unnervingly real.
His eyes pop with the scene. Lots of blue at play in those couple frames. Blue is a key color for depression. Also, his eyes light up kind of when he puts it up to his head. The breath in the air was a cool dynamic to add as well.
And the sound effect in the background too, chef's kiss. I also like the sound effect when James runs towards Laura or when the camera zooms in on Mary looking through the window. And I absolutely love this one 0:20
2:57 I have no idea why, but when I hear promise and Marie saying you see I'm real and James' reflection in the TV screen seeing his face realizing what he's done and where he is now. I feel like crying.
who is the best for? for melancholics? It is suitable for the game of that time and the surroundings. but clearly not the best. Yes, even the room soundtrack is more beautiful. And in sh2, despondency and hopelessness and it is impossible to evaluate it separately from the game.
A subtle detail I noticed with Maria, she has the eyes of someone who dislikes you as well the tone in her voice, almost if someone can’t be bothered to talk with you. But towards the end the her tone changes as well as the way she looks at James as if she genuinely loves him. I thought that was strange compared to the original.
I got the same feeling. The way the OG felt was almost like she was a demon who knew more than James and because of that she found it funny and generally comical mixed with little nuggets of hatred, where this version feels exactly like what you described. But I am also wondering if there is more to it than what we see.
James having less expression on his face in many of these scenes really does add something to it. Especially if he's relatively emotionless until it comes to a certain person. So the idea of a mostly stoic James holding his composure until the ending reveal / letting his guard down around a certain person, really does add a lot to this game. Personally the gameplay looks great to me personally. I only wanted what they promised. Which was a RE2 REmake inspired remake of SH2. Seems to me they nailed it.

@@sgttater2313 That's likely the self-punishment aspect to her character. She exists to punish James in every way, so bluntly saying "I'm not the woman you loved" is, in my eye, a cruel statement towards James to remind him of what he did.
@@RileyWritey Even though she exists to punish James, the Beyond a Wish scenario tells us that she still has some degree of autonomy. That's why in the original SH2 she delivers the line with a hint of bitterness and spite which seems to be lacking in the remake.
The fact that Akira Yamaoka came back to compose the remake alone has me excited. He had great soundtracks through each entry of the series (no including Downpour since he didn't compose that one.)
They revealed this scene before and it was memed to death comparing it to the original scene from the original game. It was bad cause already it was clear sign that they misunderstood the meaning of said scene.
I think they change the transition of Maria into Mary persona. In the OG it was around “you were always so forgetful..” and then change back to Maria at “I’m not your Mary”. But in the remake I think it’s Maria taunting James with her knowledge of Mary all the way without becoming Mary at all.

The main thing I noticed in the trailer was the change in the "...I'm not your Mary...". The OG version had Maria giving an attitude toward James for conflating the two. Here, it's just sort of monotone; it has less 'punch'. That said, this looks brilliant and I'm really looking forward to it!
Maria sounds a bit robotic in the beginning, but considering that she otherwise produces a stellar performance, I get the feeling its deliberate. I liked the higher octave in the original, where it seemed like she's talking almost dismissively. She here sounds more like she is rattling down a script. But like I said... it might be deliberate.
Yeah will be interesting to see how the voice direction is handled. Either way I wish them the best. I want it to be great of course. This and todays "launch trailer" have given me a lot more hope than the earlier trailers. Fingers crossed.
"I'm not your Mary". Cue the second movement of Promise. At 2:36 the harmonic climax hits just as James kneels and is about to learn the truth, and in the music you can hear the Silent Hill motif. Akira Yamaoka is the goat.

I'm glad it's back. The lonely teenage girl, from 2002, cries inside of me now because of happyiness. This Game is everything to me. Brought me trough tough times back then. And it will do it again now. Thank you Bloober Team for giving me a Chance to see it in new graphic glory. There are people,Like me,Out there who are thankful for this Game. Pls don't forget that between all the hate of other people in the Internet.

Time flew fast, and without noticing, I'm already 32 yo fully grown man...
Same here. This is my favourite game ever. Still own the PS2 launch game and the Greatest Hits version. Everything about this game transcends any form of medium. I own the soundtrack (CD and Vinyl). It helped me push through tough times. Bloober team looks like they're gonna pull it off. Massive props to them. I'm glad Akira Yamaoka is involved in the project as well.
One of those games that changes generations into, depressed but real people, in my worst and most lonesome days, Silent Hill actually was my purgatory, my safe place, and my muse..Teenage boy nolonger but still, that was the only game that touched, my mind, my heart and my soul.

Dude this could have been the reveal trailer. And I assure you, the hype would be on the sky.
You would hardly received any backlash because you can tell the one who edited this trailer understood what silent hill 2 is about
This is Silent Hill 2
Facts I like how they edit the part were James stairs at a blank TV screen and inserting the tape it feels like the magic of the 2001 trailer continuation and better
It's copying the 2001 trailer :) thats why it is better
The "backlash" came from a handful of impossible to please "fans" from reddit and Twitter.
The rest of us normal people never had a problem.
The trailer is all right, but the delivery of Maria/Mary lines are a bit lackluster in my opinion.

i have to wonder why she said it so flat in this version.
@@sgttater2313
That's likely the self-punishment aspect to her character. She exists to punish James in every way, so bluntly saying "I'm not the woman you loved" is, in my eye, a cruel statement towards James to remind him of what he did.
@@RileyWriteyhes just asking why it sounds dull compared to the original version
2:05 hey they fixed it
fixed what
They revealed this scene before and it was memed to death comparing it to the original scene from the original game.

Yeah that was very smooth
I think they change the transition of Maria into Mary persona. In the OG it was around “you were always so forgetful..” and then change back to Maria at “I’m not your Mary”. But in the remake I think it’s Maria taunting James with her knowledge of Mary all the way without becoming Mary at all.

They have made significant improvements from the previous trailers. Ok, now I have hope
The way he says : aren't you maria? Makes me ball my eyes out
It took me a second watch to realise they’ve changed James’s face so now he actually looks more like he did in the original game.
I just want a brand new Silent Hill at this caliber. I can't wait to replay this game, the original came out so long ago and I played it non-stop. I'm still hopeful they'll someday try to make horror games similar to this again.
There is a new Silent Hill game they're working on already.
This is much better than the last couple of trailers. I’m looking forward to this remake!
Even in my wildest dreams I wouldn't have expected that level of quality. I love this game and I can tell that some of the people involved in this remake love it too.
I don’t remember if this was in the original, but that look Maria gives when she says, “If you want me to be,” is just…yeah.
It was. I definitely know what you mean about that look. The original actress came off as way more seductive and flirty, in a strangely playful way. Right when I heard the new voice actress speak, she just didn’t have that mysterious charm the original had. I’m not mad at it tho, I’m still gonna play on day 1
@@BgdkYou explained exactly what I was thinking. She just sounds a little bored or uncaring. The original had a seductive and alluring voice.
When’s the last time you guys played the original? I think you all forgot just how corny and over the top video game acting was back then. This is taking a much more realistic approach.
@@pr6046Yeah, voice acting in games has improved, not THAT much, but it has.

That is called Nostalgia my friend
don't listen to these boneheads, the OG voice actors were something special. I'm also excited for the remake, finally getting a PS5 to play it
The main thing I noticed in the trailer was the change in the "...I'm not your Mary...". The OG version had Maria giving an attitude toward James for conflating the two. Here, it's just sort of monotone; it has less 'punch'. That said, this looks brilliant and I'm really looking forward to it!
I don't know why, but I just love it here
Maria sounds a bit robotic in the beginning, but considering that she otherwise produces a stellar performance, I get the feeling its deliberate.
