At the time of this video, this lift retailed for $1,600. Over the years it has also come and gone multiple times from the Harbor Freight website. My best guess is they sell them when they have them in stock.
Remember, this is a scissor lift, it's not really designed to get access to the underside of a vehicle. You really need something like a post lift for that kind of access. This is perfect for lower body and detail work, you can wheel all around the car without post casting shadows or getting in your way. It's a different tool, for a different job.
Also I see a lot of concerns about safety. I did a follow up PSA regarding safety concerns, hopefully this explains how not to use a scissor lift. ruclips.net/video/RAqqgq7ielE/видео.html

My opinion is feel comfort with German style than scissors or two pole type. Sine both of it have only small support. Stability is not good enough for me. ruclips.net/video/ocMXSF32NPE/видео.html

It’s a scissor lift...not designed for true automotive work... if your doing real mechanic work you need a 2 post lift. These are best for tire work.

Looks like a good lift for wheel/tire/suspension work but like most scissors jacks it is really in the way for any under car maintenance. Good video!

This is a great unit. It passed my last test as it picks up my 06 crew cab silverado 1500 4x4 with no problem at all. I was a bit hesitant at first but shes a beast. It feels secure in the air. Doesnt feel like its gona tip over even after i give it a couple shoves to test the sturdiness. I had to change the oring in the pick up tube and oil pan gasket. Have had this lift for about 4 years and its definatley a great addition to my home garage.

Years ago, you could have a"pit", where you could stand up under the car to grease it, change oil, etc. For some reason, they were outlawed. I worked for years at a Chrysler assembly plant in a pit, with cars moving down the line. I guess a major corporation can do it but not a garage or a hobbyist. Might makes right !

To get around the ground clearance issue you can build two long ramps out of 3 or more stacked 2" x 12"s that are flush on one end and stepped on the other at about a 12" offset/stagger to drive the vehicle up and over it. Just make sure the top level is long enough for the wheelbase and a 4" x 4" tire stop at the flush end of each ramp. Thanks for the video.

Also we made wide ramps to drive low vehicles on it to clear. Also if you want to move it raise it up to first safety notch. That rotates the hitch plate and makes moving a lot easier.

I worked at HFT for 12 years in the store and for corporate, I visited the Quality department in CA a number of times, and despite some of their tools being junk (for anyone but the casual user) the QA department took their jobs seriously, its a lot of work to change something but wherever improvements and safety was concerned they tried their best to roll out those changes in the next iteration. I was proud to work for a company like HFT, they actually do care about bringing good quality tools at lower prices, it may take them longer to get there than the big names but they try.

This is because each SKU has some modification to the design that effects the items performance or longevity. The QC department does its research, suggests a change, the change is implemented as a new SKU # then they see how well it performs. I was at the QC building when they were prototyping the Hercules and Bauer Drills, They were doing real world and stress tests on the drills. They had 3 or 4 huge stones out back of the building and they were drilling thousands of holes to see how well the drills held up and how long the battery would last under heavy load.

Great job on the video. I'm a major DWYER too, but the issues you encountered with this purchase would have been too much for me. I am installing a 4-post lift soon and I went with the Bendpak brand. I am making a video as well.

I paid 1,800 for my Dannmar Max Jack, worth checking out before you go buy this. It’s a twin post lift, goes up about 44 inches and leaves the entire space below the car open. Clear access to the transmission, engine and suspension. I use a low rolling stool and it’s a lot better than swimming around on the concrete. Still not as good as a full size twin post lift, but that’s next. 😁

I’ve had one for about two years. I have a small garage with a 9’ ceiling. Its perfect for access to front end, rear end, interior work.. pretty much everything other than transmission and some exhaust. I did buy the pad extensions because my foxbody is low to the ground. I did need to build a ramp system to drive onto because everything bottoms out. Even a basic Nissan Sentra. When the car is on the lift, it’s a bit sketchy. I feel like it wouldn’t take much to to push it over. Of course, the higher you go, the worse it gets. All in all it’s a great lift. It is quite limited, but, it makes up for it in convenience. Oh, I also use it to lift my tractor and it doubles as an adjustable work surface when I don’t have a car on it.. I just toss a sheet of plywood on it.

Nice review. You can make up a quick disconnect at the pump so you can easily detach the unit from the lift,
similar connections used on tractors and other hydraulic lines like the Bobcats. I have the Bendpak MD6-XP.
I got a queen size bed frame at Habitat ReStore, put some OSB on it and just push it over the lift when not in use,
can keep my mower, leaf machine and other stuff on top when not using the lift,.
I easily dropped the subframe on my '99 Taurus wagon with this type of lift,
using engine support bar tool, and no problem at all to swap transmission out. The front of the car hangs over the lift for easy access.
Many Corvette and Porsche owners use this style lift too, some recess it in the concrete to keep it flush with
diamond plate over it when not in use.
Sure a post lift lets you work under the car, however you have the posts in the way all the time.
I like the scissor lift design.
BTW you have a lot more patience fixing the lift then I would have had.
    Best Regards

I had snapons version of this for years and it was rated to pick up a full size extcab truck and it did a great job . The arms were way beefier and longer and had extendable tubes that those pads set in for different heights. I added a wider heavier steel pad on the front for side stability. . It was perfect for my paint and bodyshop. And is still in operation 20yrs old . This HF lift isnt far off the quality of the snapon 1 . I might go get 1 and modify for my commercial zeroturn mowers. The price is good considering I'm gonna cut it up and modify right off the bat .

just FYI, Snap-On DOES NOT MAKE lift equipment or floor jacks. THEY NEVER HAVE!
This equipment is made FOR Snap-On by import companies, I.E., Japan or China AND Possibly USA, which is very rare back then AND these days.
I am in the hydraulic repair business so I know this to be a fact.
You are ONLY PAYING FOR THE NAME, AND TRIPLE THE PRICE AT THAT! Not to be mean, just telling you a true fact.
I know many mechanics who buy from snap-on and the jacks and or lifts are NOT MADE by them, only painted with their logo on the equipment. All you have to do is look closely on the tag or frame and you will see where it was made.

At Walmart, we use the Challenger lifts for tire work. It's a similar type of unit, but it is bolted solid to the floor with concrete lag bolts. There is a drive over ramp on both ends and we use 3 different types of lift blocks which are not mounted to the lift. Which one depends on the vehicle being lifted. Maximum lift height is only about 18 inches so you have to get down on the floor to do tire work. The entire length of the lifting platform is only about 40 inches or so, so some vehicles can't be lifted because their lift points are ahead and behind where the lift table can reach. Those are occasional happenings, but fairly rare. The max lifting capacity is around 8,000 lbs so the lift can raise a full sized 1 ton pickup. The manufacturer does provide a lifting guide for us, but it's geared towards their 2 point spider lift, and doesn't really help much with the lift we use. It would be helpful if they produced a lifting guide specifically for this lift, so we don't have to guess if the vehicle can be lifted with this lift or not. But that's Walmart for you. Corporate contracts for items that don't really make the job any easier.

you could recess out the concrete in the area where you want the lift to live at, so it will be flush with the floor, that would give you more room to lift up lower cars

For clearance between car and lift. If you don't intent ever moving lift, you could recess lift into floors, so top is just above concrete.

For safety I would bolt the lift to a heavy concrete floor. Does not look stable.

    • @professorg8383
      @professorg8383 3 года назад

@@peterbond3628 You might be able to bolt down the front section, but the back half must move on the floor as the scissors close to extend the height. A good concrete floor would be important because a lot of weight will be on the two back rollers.
