I was very surprised that he transforms without disassembling. I assumed you would have to pretty much take him apart, reconfigure some stuff, and put him back together. Which sucks, but it's Lego after all so I'd be ok with it. But not only does he have the G1 style transformation, they even improved on it a bit. With the now typical waist twist so the legs look more accurate, and hiding the hands without removing them.
Really hope the make other bots, and yeah, Soundwave would be an obvious choice. Takes me right back to my childhood. Prime and Soundwave were the first two Transformers I bought as a kid. Still have them.
Thankfully they didn’t go the kree-o route
Though I do wish we didn’t need to mod the backside so moving tge kegs didn’t completely detach the waist
2:22 this set actually contains three new ratchet pieces already (the two halves of the ratchet used in the hip, as well as the 1x2x1 1/3 brick with ratchet socket). Some of them have appeared in one or two other sets over the past few months, but I wouldnt be surprised if they were designed specifically for this. Not to mention the face plate also being a new piece.
And those hip pieces: yeah based on what I've read in the past about Lego parts engineering, those things were probably insanely expensive compared to the average piece to develop
The face plate was used in a different colour in one of the botanical sets but like the ratchet pieces it's likely they were made for Optimus first.

Here's hoping some of the professional Legoformer builders get brought on board if this collab continues. There've been some pretty damned impressive Lego versions done of existing characters.
Imagine a full on Star Saber set that even comes with a Jan Minakaze minifig.
I feel like the next set ( if we get it) will either bee bumblebee or Megatron. The catch with Megatron tho, he's probably going to be a tank, but a fictional one given LEGOs stance on war themes ( they make fictional tanks for star wars all the time). Hopefully this ain't the end tho
They could probably do a sci-fi cybertronian tank, Hasbro could probably help them out with it.
And then someone (most likely either Ransom Fern or Alan Yap's Lego Transformers) is gonna figure out an alternate build where he transforms into a gun.

I think when judging a piece like this, you have to keep in mind that it's Lego first, Transformers second. When you think about it that way, it's truly amazing.
Also, I would buy a Lego Soundwave in an instant. That is SUCH a good idea!

Here is the thing with the crotch plate, it would have been very difficult to do the "unplug, turn 180* and plug back in" type of deal because of how lego pieces work. I have some experience on that type of field when it comes to contact points, the bull joint related pieces would have been a bit of a mess to use for it as they are longer than the pole grabbers (the ones that connect to the rods of some pieces)

Putting him next to Primus and Tidal Wave is the first size comparison that really helped me realize the sheer scale of this guy. Wow!
His lack of knees absolutely kills it for me. Just ain't worth it.

Got this as a graduation gift for college and absolutely adore it! Sits front and center for my collection!
I'd love to see a G1 Tank Megatron. That way, custom Lego builders can make it into the Gun version.
Ok. That’s it. I’m getting him. LEGO and Transformers were literally two of my 3 favorite (3rd TMNT) childhood...ok let’s face it still my favorite toys. This is absolutely amazing. $200 seems worth it considering the quality and god knows the amount of work and behind the scenes bureaucracy stuff that went on for this to happen. Cheers to both companies for making this happen. Thanks for the video.
I cannot wait to see the Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp versions. Hopefully Ramjet, Dirge, and Thrust come soon too.
That really is exceedingly unlikely IMO. Realistically Lego isnt going to release more than 2 of these a year, more likely 1. And they'll first go through the characters who are the best combination of popular and simple. The license will expire long before they get to the cone-heads (who probably couldnt be built in a way that would pass Lego's stability standards to begin with)
No way we’re getting any of those characters aside from Starscream. If we even get more Lego transformers they’ll probably do Bumblebee or Megatron or maaaybe Starscream
In fairness tge seekers have always been recolours of starscream so having them as options really wouldn’t be difficult for them outside of sourcing pieces
And if only one exists the kid will be out in 12 hours
I agree that Soundwave is probably the likely next installment in this line, assuming it continues. Especially because the new piece they designed for the faceplate would also be perfect for Soundwave's face

I honestly what I see other than the mp01 design and other than just g1 in general is the design from the transformers movie game 2001 the unlockable version of the G1 Optimus prime I get really heavy vibes from it
When I saw this it really gave my vibes of the first Masterpiece Optimus. The look and size also the accessories he came with. I really want to get mine unpacked so I can compare him to the LEGO one.
And yes this Optimus is HUGE! It must be the biggest Transformer I have besides Trypticon and Unicron!
I hope there will be more LEGO Transformers too!
Could LEGO get away with Megatron by the fact that a LEGO gun wouldn't look like a real one? Or maybe give the barrel and orange tip than we can switch out for gray off of Pick a Brick or Bricklink? Haha.
Most of the military vehicles should be ok with LEGO's rule since they have colorful and unrealistic color schemes. LEGO has done plenty of similar jets as "stunt planes," which is how the Transformers jets look.
Bitzwing light be a problem because of him being mostly tan in his tank mode, but I don't see how a LEGO triple changer would be possible anyway.
Soundwave is definitely possible though, and I'd like to come not just with Laserbeak, but Rumble (in blue!) and Ravage, too! They can even use the same faceplate they used for Optimus haha.
Oh, you put the ion blaster in backwards in the truck mode heh.
I would like to see lego's attempt to make a combiner. That can detach all of its limbs. And that then transform into smaller robots. Which can then turn into cars.

Two of my favorite things into one. This is a masterpiece for sure hell even as a owner of MP-01 he looks better (except articulation wise) and is great
The designer of this set was someone who once worked on Transformers Armada to I believe Thrilling 30 and is now part of the Lego Group
Kre-O actually made transformable figures, without parts-forming. I actually own most of them and it’s nearly impossible to find them all for sale
if there is a knee join it will be 100% perfect. The eyes looks kind of off but is lego there is always some forgiveness there lol. I will get it the first day for sure. Thanks for the video. I think they can do VW Bumble Bee,, is pretty simple transformation and everyone loves Bees..and Lego has a VW beetles before... so hey lets go lol.
A lego optimus primal that is fully transformable would be a dream come true

I was sop happy when i found out this exists, transformers and lego were my favorite kinds of toys as a child.
My wife bought me this for Fathers Day. Only complaint? No trailer, lol. However, I do have to point out, there IS a spot for the gun in truck mode. If you turn it round, so the barrel faces the back instead of the front, it fits right inbetween the legs, with the big part kind of tucked under the cabin.

About the size, yeah he’s a BEHEMOTH. He’s the largest Lego set I’ve ever gotten, and he’s even slightly taller than my bionicle self moc, which is a foot tall. I got him for Christmas and the box is the size of my cat

I just picked mine up. First in line at the Lego store in Vegas. Now to find blueprints for Prime's trailer! It's awesome by the way! Just think how cool some of the Triple Changers would be!? Astrotrain anybody?

the gun can clip in place, you have to rotate it so the bottom faces up, flip the handle rotate so the big part of the blaster face the head, then slide forward, it should tab in. It is in the instruction. whats not in the instruction is that you can tab the backpack on the back in truc, over the gun on the studs thats stick out on the legs. the axe and the cube doesn't go anywhere onfurtunatelly

Yeah, it seems like it's about on par with the Wei Jiang MPP10 (that oversized MP10 KO) in terms of the height. Tempted to pull the trigger on this *AND* hunt down the old Kre-O set, too.
I 100% believe a Lego Grimlock is possible. And the transformstion is rather simplistic

I made a mod (with free instructions) to do exactly what you said: turn the bumper 180 degrees to swap between the two pieces.
I need my Megatron next so Prime can duke it out with someone.

Just got this, and it looks amazing. It also dwarfs my other transformers. My tallest one (on display) is the Siege Thundercracker, and his fins (the ones on either side of his head) barely reach the crotch.
Also, the Earthrise Prime can wrap his hands around the handles of the matrix pretty well. It is even bloosh compatible.

Bro, in track mode you can connect weapon. It is writed in instriction. You can see this gaps on robot mode hips. I usually put gun between legs and put jetpack on top. You show in video posse of gun on truck just roll it 180 degrees. And see that top part of gun go inside between hips and slide in back way of car.
Megatron in tank mode should be next or shockwave but soundwave is a good choice

"Take that kreo" oh cmon yeah it was annoying taking them apart and putting them back together but they were fairly good. I had so many as a kid. Now I don't have things because I don't have space or time but if I became a adult collector like you I'd for sure have kreo everywhere

I feel like maybe Grimlock might be someone we see if they plan to continue his robot mode is relatively simple part from his wing, chest things but Legos done stuff like that before. I'd say the dinobot mode would be a bit difficult simple because he becomes a round boi. But other than that I'd say Grimlock

One thing I noticed is that the gun can store on the back and there's a port that makes it *look* like a trailer hitch.
Weird how he put the gun in wrong though
