I personally call that one a G1½, it's a great KO adding the pearlescent swirls to the red cab while keeping the G1 decals and a darker G2 inspired trailer while having light blue accessories all over
But that’s what I’m saying, he’d be pretty easy to make, since they’d just need him to fold arms back and legs split, with slight engineering for hiding the head.
I grew up during the Beast Wars era and had a transmetal Tarantulas figure. Love having a G1 Optimus in Lego form. My only issue with it is the turntable at the waist is a weak connection I have to secure every time I move the figure. I wish there was a way to put a technic bar through Optimus to help hold him together.
I think there is a slight issue with Lego creating more G1 figures is Megatron. Because for those who don't know, Megatron was a gun in the 80s cartoon. A Walther P-38 to be specific. There's no way Lego will make a scale replica of G1 Megatron, so Megatron will likely end up being his Legends toy which is a tank instead of a gun. In addition, according to canon, Megatron and other transformers were able to become smaller/larger based off their altmode's size. This is why Soundwave was once a radio and Megatron was able to be used as a gun in the cartoon by both people and other decepticons. It would be difficult for Lego to somehow utilize a mass phase shifter to allow Megatron to be wielded by other transformers while simultaneously be large enough to scale with this Optimus toy.
I am hoping LEGO will make Megatron and give his gun barrel an orange tip, which we can then switch out for gray from Pick-a-Brick or Bricklink. 😉 Although, how realistic could a LEGO gun possibly be? Surely no one would think itn was a real gun? LOL yeah LEGO hasn't invented mass-shifting technology yet! But I don't think anyone is expecting Megatron to shrink. Although, including a small brick built Megatron in is gun mode, for other characters to wield, would he cool.
@@Benjamin0119 Lego doesn't make anything explicitly war-like. The only reason Star Wars and other series gets away with it is just because of that: they're fictional. A Walther P-38 is a real life handgun and can you imagine the PR nightmare Lego would have if they actually sold a model gun? I'm pretty sure the tank is a safer and more practical option for a Megatron set.
@@ryanchong9965 LEGO has a lot of loopholes in that rule, though. The supposed rule is no modern military stuff, which they consider anything from World War II and later. For some reason World War I is ok, as they made the Red Baron and Sopwith Camel. LEGO also made Indiana Jones sets which included literal Nazis and Soviet Russians, along with their vehicles. I'm not sure why THAT was ok. Making Megatron into a tank should technically go against their rule, too. Though, I've never seen any gray tanks. They usually have camouflage, so maybe LEGO could get away with it. Blitzwing would be an issue since his tank mode is mostly tan, but doing a triple changer is probably impossible, anyway. Warpath is a red and silver, but I doubt LEGO would make a character with that name, plus he is a minor character, anyway. Really, that sounds more like a Deception name! And there's no chance LEGO makes Brawl or the rest of the Combaticons, as they would be prohibitively expensive to make the whole team in one set be in scale with Optimus (the cartoon, since the old toys weren't scale,) and they're a team of military vehicles, some of them having realistic color schemes, Brawl included. So Megatron would probably be the only Transformers tank they ever make. We never saw Megatron's cybertronian mode, so maybe we could argue it was a tank... At the very least, most of the other Decepticons should be ok. LEGO released plenty of military jets as "stunt planes," and the Transformers jets all have these sorts of colorful stunt plane-like color schemes.

Cool comparisons. Really eye opening how a Lego version at about $170 - $220 is the cheapest collectors variation now on the market whereas 20+ years ago the MP01 slightly shorter, super detailed, some diecast assembly was around the $110 mark. The G1 Optimus you have I feel is the commemorative edition released around the same time for around I think $50. Never had the original as well but grabbed one up, as well as the Ultra Magnus for Nostalgia's sake. Alternators was an interesting experiment that started out great providing realistic car modes, rubber tires/chrome, and decent articulation however near the end with Ram Prime one of the last the engineering/quality went completely down as the prices went up. Glad you have an appreciation for it though.
I was super lucky, the black Nemesis Prime version of the RAM was a San Diego comicon exclusive but got mass released here in Australia. I bought two and sold one straight away to cover the cost. Wished I could have held onto it but that was how I could afford it and I still have my copy. Love it!
Your copy of g1 prime is from what I can tell either unofficial or made from multiple copies, as far as I’m aware the black trailer hasn’t been released with blue for the stands in the bottom. I’d say it’s been restored from multiple different copies of the toy, which would explain the branding. I came across this video because I've been watching Speed Champions reviews recently. It's really "surprising" that the only time a G1-accurate Optimus Prime wasn't available on regular store shelves (yes, even in Europe) was in the year this LEGO set was released. We had definitive G1 Optimus Prime for two years straight in Earthrise (repacked in Kingdom line) for $50 which, frankly, blows this rendition of the character out of the water in every regard, maybe aside from build experience. ;) I'm sad that many LEGO fans were convinced this was a good deal. Thankfully the set shelfwarmed and is widely available now about 50% off.
If you take another look at the transforming instructions, you'll see that the front bumber SHOULD connect to a couple of studs in robot mode AS WELL as truck mode!! This makes both modes more sturdy, but prevents robot mode to have swinging hips.
Thanks for the feedback, you are right, but I don't think it is actually clearly indicated in the instructions. I have this set and really like it. It's the same scale as the MP-01 which was pretty terrible. But also the same size as the Wei Jiang MPP10 (which is an oversized MP10 KO). Currently I'm using that trailer until I build one. Currently trying to add some non-transforming Autobot cars in the same scale.
That lego set is beautiful looking! I have a special Playstation edition of Optimus prime for transformers' 30th anniversary, I also managed to have the boxed signed by Peter Cullen! :D (this version is not made by Hasbro but by Takara)
I don't think your G1 Optimus is a knockoff, the lighter blue used on his shins and on roller etc look like the G2 release and explains why the trailer has a black colour rather than grey, it's entirely possible it is a G2 release with repro stickers placed on the trailer
It absolutely 100% is a KO. The color of the trailer is wrong, the main robot is missing the stripes - they're included as separate stickers, but were always pre-applied on the official figure - and the reds are mismatching. It's very well known as the "bright" or "pearl bright" KO.
So glad we found this fir only £100 (66% of the price on the website) Hope we get more as I would love a starscream soundwave or negatron Also imagine the possibilities with a headhunter range like the Star Wars helmet sets and what mods that could bring
The Transform Element TE-01 OP leader is a good option. It’s about 80-100$ depending on where you get it. It’s a pretty cartoon accurate g1 Optimus prime IMO.
I am noticeably younger than you and many G1 fans, so for me introduction to transformers were movies and TF: Prime animated series, so I don't have that love for G1 and love the movie and Prime versions. I understand, people have diffeent taste, I have my own things I love about movie designs. Not all movie designs, to be fair.
I was thinking about starting a Bayverse movie masterpiece Transformers collection. Then collect some of the G1 masterpiece figures what's the best place to put them?
Great video ., i'm a big fan of Transformers myself and i have lots of it at home. G1 prime is great and i bought one to build, one to keep. If somehow Lego x Hasbro continue the line that will be both Lego and Transformers dreams. Hasbro normally never sell their license to other company which allows the toys to "transfrom". (eg, threezero figures, pops figures.. etc) Only non transfromation transfromers is allowed. I was very surprised Hasbro let Lego to produce a fully transfromation OP which really interesting marketing. I can see soundwave can be the next once since is a simple transfromation and also is one of the many fan's favorite character .. i really hope this lines continue forever.
It’s funny if you want a masterpiece grade Optimus prime, the best option is the Lego one because it’s leagues cheaper than both masterpieces and way better in g1 accuracy than mp10 and around $300 cheaper than mp44.

Would you look into this or outside your video theme?
So like paying $1800 for a model that does not even transform? That's really not my type of thing, I'd rather buy the Robosen version with the trailer included for that money
@@RacingBrick they wish they could have made it transform but they would have given up on having it so possable and on a good chunk of detail, for example the light up matrix of leadership in his chest. But I wasn’t sure if you looked into the model or not or what your opinion on it was
I collect ThreeZero Transformers, but those come only in robot form and don't transform. Will definitely get the Lego Optimus and most probably leave him in truck mode, I think the designer nailed the truck proportions. Thanks for the excellent video Balazs 👍
Transformers Binaltech/Alternators! Best toy line from Transformers imho. Highly detailed vehicles which transform into robots. I own the Subaru WRX STI and the Jeep Wrangler.
I remember I once got a kreo megatron, and I was super disappointed that it didn't actually transform, but honestly, if it were made to transform it would've just fallen apart faster, as I remember that after just building it, part of it fell off, and each time I tried to repair it, more parts fell off, like some sort of inverse hydra, and it just fell apart in my hands. Overall a disappointment, so thank goodness the lego optimus prime I got much more recently is just better in every way.
That G1 Optimus is definitely a knockoff. The silver striping around the cab comes preapplied on every official version of the toy but the knockoffs distinctly leave it off for you to apply. In addition, the black trailer was only seen officially on the G2 version of the toy, which featured completely different accessories, manuals, and stickers. The black trailer is only an option for KO versions of the toy. Also, the shade of blue is just way too bright - neither the G1, G2, or any of the later reissues featured a blue that bright and vibrant.
or you could get one of the 3p figures like OP leader or if you are specifically going for chonky optimus magic squares light of freedom optimus would suit it
My model of this always gives my issues on the torso, it comes off the lego piece alot when you're transforming it. The legs can't go backwards very well as the peice in-between the legs on the rear comes off, and the elbow joint keeps failing and is very flimsy to hold the gun and always falls down.
Believe me or not i have all four seasons of g1 the real ones and a lit of the original toys from the 80s got them from my moms friend yes i have optimus but the moms friend lost his ratchet and ironhide yup the headless ones
honestly comparing the toy to the cartoon isnt worth it, BC THE CARTOON ISNT ACCURATE WITH ITSELF. in the cartoon, there were sooo many innacuracies, whether it was the mass-shifting, or optimus being facelesss on a face lose-up. Also im more than sure that the optimus isnt real, as the trailer is meantr to be light grey, and the stuff in the trailer (roller and all the other stuff) ARENT meant to be on sprews. also in th short, i thought the one you hid was the alternators optimus lol!
btw i do have an optimus from th war for cybertron line, its praised as the best prime that ISNT cancer to transform, hes headless, but if you think hat the alternators one is good, you should see others, it aint bad, just that it aint good. also im currently 14,and ive been a fan of transformers and used them as a hobby since i was like 2, would that make me good to talk about transformrs?
Magic square light of peace is pretty much the most accurate G1 Optimus, and cost around 130 USD. But of course, way complicated than lego Optimus. PS not all third party transformers are not Knock OFF! Most feature original designs !
I’m terms of alternatives, I would say good options are a high quality knock off of masterpiece Optimus number 44 or number 10. Another alternative which is smaller, cheaper, and more playable is the transformers wfc kingdom Optimus Prime.
Hey Balazs. I did finish the model just yesterday and I do notice a lot of slack on the elbow joints, specially visible when in the truck mode where the gap is big. Do yuo have it as well? I see some, not sure how it looks after a few months: ruclips.net/video/nq23Bkym2no/видео.html
Your g1 is 100% a later addition/ copy. The silver areas are the giveaway, and the trailer is slightly out on the colour. Love the new Lego version.

Heck lego could have even given us a Tile version of the waist piece to stack onto it, and it would have instantly become more stable.
I'm sure someone else has already pointed it out, but the front bumper is supposed to tab into the studs at the waist in both vehicle and robot mode.
If there is ever a mod to add knees joints to this set, it will be an instant buy. Optimus needs to have knee articulation.

The Kre-O model is definitely Optimus Sub-Prime, when you compare it side-by-side with the LEGO 10302
Really cool!
how hard would it be to make a soundwave and blaster?
this set is amazing
Autobo- I mean, Optimuses, roll out
or you could get one of the 3p figures like OP leader or if you are specifically going for chonky optimus magic squares light of freedom optimus would suit it
My model of this always gives my issues on the torso, it comes off the lego piece alot when you're transforming it. The legs can't go backwards very well as the peice in-between the legs on the rear comes off, and the elbow joint keeps failing and is very flimsy to hold the gun and always falls down.
I get the same issues, and also the light bars on the feet keep popping up. I keep having to push them back into place.
I think if they will do a second one it’s probably gonna be soundwave
You can look for Takara's Masterpiece line for cartoon accurate Optimus/convoy
I did look at them, that's the 4-5-600$ range with shipping :/
Believe me or not i have all four seasons of g1 the real ones and a lit of the original toys from the 80s got them from my moms friend yes i have optimus but the moms friend lost his ratchet and ironhide yup the headless ones
I really miss kree o these days… i hope they start producing again
honestly comparing the toy to the cartoon isnt worth it, BC THE CARTOON ISNT ACCURATE WITH ITSELF. in the cartoon, there were sooo many innacuracies, whether it was the mass-shifting, or optimus being facelesss on a face lose-up.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Earthrise/Kingdom Optimus Prime
As I mentioned I don't know much about Transfomers toys other than the G1 ones from my childhood.
I want full fleet from g1/or Bumblebee movie:)
Magic square light of peace is pretty much the most accurate G1 Optimus, and cost around 130 USD. But of course, way complicated than lego Optimus. PS not all third party transformers are not Knock OFF! Most feature original designs !
Damn! I need this one! 😁
Transforms just like the one I have i have no idea what gen it it but exact same transformation

Smokescreen: HEES AAPPTIMUS PRIIME!
I love lego and Transformers, and even if this one is great, I would prefer saving money for a perfect Optimus toy
I want Megatron even g1 lol. goofy looking gun? Yes please
Kre-O Battle Changers Optimus Prime is much smaller, but is G1 themed and actually transforms. You should find one for yourself and make a video.
I don't think I will do that, it simply looks bad
How about making a review about Optimus prime Robosen?
I would love to, but I cannot justify burning $1000 (or $2000 with the trailer) for a toy to review :)
@@RacingBrick that's true..
The original G1 toy did not have articulating legs! Yours is definitely a reissue
The original had knees. It always has. But it's a KO, because the trailer, the coloration and the lack of stripes give it away.
I am confused as to how this transformation is complex, complex is the transformation of the zeta gundam
Complex for an average LEGO customer, not for a Transformers collector
I’m terms of alternatives, I would say good options are a high quality knock off of masterpiece Optimus number 44 or number 10. Another alternative which is smaller, cheaper, and more playable is the transformers wfc kingdom Optimus Prime.
Wheres the BTR optimus prime figure?
I hope this opens the possibility for LEGO power rangers
Can't wait for lego bumblebee
I live in Norway and I found it for 1392 nok and thats 129 dollars in the USA🤩
Hey Balazs. I did finish the model just yesterday and I do notice a lot of slack on the elbow joints, specially visible when in the truck mode where the gap is big. Do yuo have it as well? I see some, not sure how it looks after a few months:
