Considering Bee's not entirely small, and hugely out of scale with Prime, and is about 900 pieces the 120 doesn't feel half bad. Prime is about $240 with a piece count of about 1500 which isn't exactly great. Definitely planning to get both at some point this year as they look great together. Would have been nice to see ankle tilt on the Bee though. Really wanted the Voltron but before I could it was unjustly retired.
I’m hoping we will get more Lego Transformers, but at a smaller scale. I think a smaller scale, like that akin to various fan builds, might help them be easier to design, if the various fan builds are anything to go by. Minifigure scale would be perfect.
I'd love a, maybe new theme?, of Lego Transformers that are abt $50-$100 each (average). They won't be replacing Generations or any nonsense you (someone; not you, specifically) may come up with. They just would prioritize articulation and proportions _more_ than (Icons) Bumblebee and Optimus. They could even create new pieces to improve stability for different joints, etc, as well as (create new pieces to) help with certain design elements of the characters. Y'know Lego's already obsessed with the Buildable Figures, right? So, why not do this? It'd be really cool!
Looks more like a Suzuki Swift like Takara's Alternity Bumblebee/Cliffjumper/Goldbug. And hell yeah, Lego stuff absosmurfinlutely can go on sale or even on clearance, it's how I got my Lego Star Wars Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Fighter...what was a bigass $90USD set when it first came out had dropped down to $50 by the time I finally chose to pull the trigger on it (that and it was just mocking me like "you'll never be able to get any other GOOD X-Wing if you keep passing me up"). On the other hand, the Poe Dameron X-Wing Fighter wasn't so lucky, that thing had more parts to be fair, but it *stayed* the full $90 the entire time it was on the shelf at Target.
I'd have liked prime to be like this tbh. My optimus prime is so floppy that he can barely stand. They didn't make his arms for long term posing. Lego cant be made with an action figure mindset. It just doesn't work.
Some of the extra pieces from the set, I used to make an attachment to make the gun peg into the side of the door which actually looks really cool and I can hide the attachment inside the windshield. It was pretty helpful and looks really sick
The Fan made MOCs of Hachiroku24 and aranobilis98 are just way better in my opinion. They scale well with the official Optimus Prime and VW Beetle looks better and also better articulation. If they were given an official treatment from lego it would have been perfect.
I love these Lego Transformers set and I certainly love this Bumblebee. And I think that grey circle hinge in the middle of the windshield? It's supposed to represent the VW logo's placement in the beetles! (I think)
As a 40-ish year old fan of both Transformers and Lego, these sets are pretty much aimed specifically at me as a target audience. And I like the Optimus; I have this Bee waiting for me when I get home from vacation. I like how these vehicles kind of remind me of really *old* lego sets, like from the 80s. The side windows on this and the windshield definitely give me vibes of older large Lego vehicles and sets. Optimus also used mostly classic bricks that have been around forever - some new one, but I still enjoyed the feeling of "yeah, I could have actually built like *most* of this back in the day*. I'm still contemplating doing that experiment at some point; I still have all my old legos and it'd be interesting to see how far I could get.

LEGO Optimus for me felt like a love letter from LEGO to Hasbro Transformers collectors. Bumblebee seems like a LEGO forward cash grab riding the wave of Optimus.
The difference in experience of the two designers is an interesting note. Hearing the different backgrounds of the designers, you can really start to see it in the builds. I'm personally more on the Lego side of things so I find it interesting more than anything. A side note about the Bumblebee designer and the whole model vs action figure thing, I saw an interview with the designer on a different channel and he was asked if the build was play tested with children (like literally PLAY tested) and he sort of sidestepped by saying it was tested with a variety of people and pointed out it was an 18+ set. Soooo yeah definitely more of a model than anything. Even as a Lego person and only the most casually aware of Transformers toy expectations I feel like they should have incorporated at least a little play into it. Yeah, I know the transformation is in and of itself a play feature, but idk. I feel like this one especially could have been more fun. I'm always interested to hear how Transformers fans feel about these sets.
People love to forget that this is making a big figure on a BUDGET in the lego company. Yes fans make more cohesive designs. But those are not restricted to be sold in stores so need to be super solid.
I used to be a big Lego collector before switching fully to collecting Transformers. I had managed to save enough vip points to get bumblebee for free with some points left over. He now stands proudly next to Lego Optimus.
I'd actually want g2 and his tank alternate mode. Megatron practicley never used his gun mode to fight besides being a weapon for another decepticon and I feel a tank would also fit better as a set and would be better for lego sales. A toy gun judt isn't something they make for kids these days. A tank has a canon but I see that as a bit diferant then a modal of a gun.
I think overall, Lego Bumblebee is really, really quite good. The carmode is quite well-done considering the lack of VW licence, it just looks really good, too. The botmode is really good. I like the different building techniques to capture different aspects of the design. I like the face. The gun is good. And, I really like the bumper details. The Goldbug and Bumblebee bumper stickers, "I ❤ Cybertron", etc are very good and cute details! And, all that for $90 (USD)! Thats a pretty good deal. Yea, I know, he could've and should've have knees. They should've found a stable way to do so. But, its fine. Not a huge deal. And, yea, his shoulders are a little too big, but thats completely fine, too. And, the partsforming, too, but I don't give a scrap; its no big deal. And, yes, the proportions aren't the best, but who really cares? Its still a good Lego Bumblebee! Its not like its trying to be like Generations (SS, LGY, etc)! Also, if you ask me, Soundwave is a no-brainer for the next one. His transformation and design are simple enough, hes an extremely popular character (for good reason), and he could be done very easily at $90 (USD) for base, and a little more for (at least, a couple of) his Minicons. Totaling up to probably, say, $110 (USD) or so? Also, hes a Decepticon, while both our current ones are Autobots.
What I think would be cool is if they used the same basic frame work that the brick built figures use. Though it may make it difficult to allow the figures to transform.
@@idkwhattohaveasausername5828 Stability, official Lego sets are designed to be as durable as possible without compromising the aesthetic, pose ability is always going to be secondary to not falling apart if you pick it up wrong.
LEGO Bee is an interesting companion piece to Optimus because I think Bee does a couple of things better than Optimus, mainly the stability and the general look. Optimus looked nice, but I think Bee looks a little more refined. However, Optimus does feel much more complete as an overall package due to his accessories and him being more poseable. Optimus' transformation is also a little better than Bee's because it doesn't have partsform technically, and is a little more straight forward and more intuitive because Bee felt a little flimsy in that aspect. As a LEGO fan, I think Bumblebee's pretty good, and while it's still expensive, he's an easier sell compared to how expensive Optimus is. I don't know if I'd say Bee is better than Optimus, but I like both.
I actually like Bee a lot more than prime. Prime is so dang wobbly that it scares me so much. Bee feels like it locks in so much in every position. If I wanted a super poseable bee I’d get an actual transformer.
7:53 funny that it wouldn't be a problem if lego didn't lowered clutch power somewhere in 2000's(probably in 2003, when they changed main color palette)
This set is awful, Alanyuppie78 made a bumblebee in scale to the official lego Optimus and it’s much, much better. “It’s lego” shouldn’t be an excuse for how terrible this bumblebee is.
I feel like if they were to do another, Megatron would be next. Then Soundwave, Shockwave, and/or Starscream. I hate the legs on Bee but I hate the legs on G1 Bee too so not gonna punish the set for that. Wish it was a bit more poseable but Bee doesn't really have any iconic or recognizable poses like Prime. I'd say pice is maybe $15-25 too much but I might get it anyway
Personally I buy these as Lego sets so the lack of articulation doesn’t really bother me My main issues are how oversized the shoulders are to hold the wheels and that the roof keeps falling off the collar when adjusting those bits
As a Lego Star Wars and Transformers collector, I think the price is about what I expected. I plan on buying it sooner or later but I do still have to get Armada Tidal Wave, so it'll be a while.
There is a pretty damn good alt build you can make of the bumblebee movie bumblebee, and hes very poseable. i got this set just for that and love it so much more than the official one :3 its much better than the official build and arguably worth the price
The difference is the jet pack and bumper aren’t necessary it’s an accessory the windscreen is and cannot be removed without massive issues Also I wish there was weapon storage
i feel like if they got the guy who designed optimus to design bee this couldve been so much better like you dont hire a car designer to build a robot do you
As a Transformers and Lego fan, I understand the pricing and I don't think it's that bad, if you get 1,000 pieces per $100, that's not bad. This set is 950 pieces for 90 bucks US, then tax depending on your location. So base price per piece is about 10.5 cents. I got a Lego The Office set and that was a tad pricy at about 120 USD plus about 10 bucks in taxes and it's base price per piece at 1,164 comes to about 9.7 cents per piece, slightly better. Legos are just not cheap.
I had the Lego Voltron set and even though it IS super cool, it was also quiet boring to build because the animal bots are too similar. But assembling and disambling Voltron itself was quite cool. I still think it could have been done better though. Making movable and posable legs aren't THAT difficult but I guess Lego whines about this and that and "it must be sturdy, it mustn't fall over and injure kids, yadda-yadda-yadda".
I was really excited to pick this up, but then I saw the Optimus Prime one, and I just think this one looks so bland in comparison now. I think that's just how the design of the character was for what they're referencing, but Optimus Prime is so much more eye-catching and interesting to look at. A lot more detail. I feel really bad, because I LOVE Bumblebee. But I feel like if I'm going to spend money on a Transformers LEGO, I will do it on the more detailed and bigger Optimus Prime.
5:28 Not content with simply taking the faces of his enemies, Optimus Prime has begun taking the faces of the very Autobots he leads into battle! I actually like Bee a lot more than prime. Prime is so dang wobbly that it scares me so much. Bee feels like it locks in so much in every position. If I wanted a super poseable bee I’d get an actual transformer.
4:18 You could say it has been made to bring freedom, peace, justice and security to this galaxy and it’s new empire
7:53 funny that it wouldn't be a problem if lego didn't lowered clutch power somewhere in 2000's(probably in 2003, when they changed main color palette)
If anyone remembers the Transformers Kre-O, you're a legend.
I remember Kre-O transformers!
@@lego_mateo127 then you're a legend alright.
Can you do a video review of the Bionicle bohrok? They are official LEGO transformers that came out before LEGO optimus prime.
This set is awful, Alanyuppie78 made a bumblebee in scale to the official lego Optimus and it’s much, much better. “It’s lego” shouldn’t be an excuse for how terrible this bumblebee is.
Shut the hell up
As someone who builds lego a lot, i could probably make knee joints for prime
But probably not for bee
First i need to buy prime
I feel like if they were to do another, Megatron would be next. Then Soundwave, Shockwave, and/or Starscream. I hate the legs on Bee but I hate the legs on G1 Bee too so not gonna punish the set for that. Wish it was a bit more poseable but Bee doesn't really have any iconic or recognizable poses like Prime. I'd say pice is maybe $15-25 too much but I might get it anyway
You and emgo are my favorite transformers RUclipsrs
The weapon's butt can peg on a side mirror to form a robot turret, or handle for some mobster drive-by.
Personally I buy these as Lego sets so the lack of articulation doesn’t really bother me
My main issues are how oversized the shoulders are to hold the wheels and that the roof keeps falling off the collar when adjusting those bits
As a Lego Star Wars and Transformers collector, I think the price is about what I expected. I plan on buying it sooner or later but I do still have to get Armada Tidal Wave, so it'll be a while.
Fun fact the designers originally had it have knees but lego said no it was a bad idea not for support
There is a pretty damn good alt build you can make of the bumblebee movie bumblebee, and hes very poseable. i got this set just for that and love it so much more than the official one :3 its much better than the official build and arguably worth the price
This is really cool, but they definitely could've done better.
I mean, there ARE ways to fix some of the bits, like adding knees and such, it IS lego after all. You just need the right pieces.
The difference is the jet pack and bumper aren’t necessary it’s an accessory the windscreen is and cannot be removed without massive issues
Also I wish there was weapon storage
I think a tank Megatron would have been a better pairing with Optimus than a G1 style Bumblebee, something even Hasbro struggles with.
Prime took Bumblebee's face for a minute. Prime is still on edge of taking faces
I will probably get this set at some stage, but I will wait for a sale. I got prime on sale recently for 50 euro off which was really nice
i feel like if they got the guy who designed optimus to design bee this couldve been so much better like you dont hire a car designer to build a robot do you
great derek laufman stickers
I got Optimus Prime for my birthday right after they announced Bumble Bee. So yeah, Lego is making hell for me
Lego Soundwave is definitely next choice
BUMBLE-BRICK!
The big shoulders remind me of shoulder pads if you think about it.
Scored it for 90 at the Lego store in south Carolina going on the shelf right next to Optimus
He’s also got ankle swivel!
I really feel like we could’ve skipped the parts forming and he could’ve just had a big body chest instead.
Love the intro
I put the bb's gun on the back of the info plaque(only one stud to use,but fits perfectly, just not strong)
Optimus prime really did just take bees head off
I have to buy this!
hoping they make a sideswipe or ironhide one
In France it's like 90 euros, which seems less expensive even with conversion, so that's a better price imo
Hey TTG, or anyone that can answer, i need your help
Is the Dark of the Moon Deluxe Bumblebee a good replacement for the Studio Series Bumblebee?
5:28
Not content with simply taking the faces of his enemies, Optimus Prime has begun taking the faces of the very Autobots he leads into battle! Will anyone be able to stop the rampage of this rabid renegade? Or will he leave the battlefield riddled with faceless husks?
Find out next time, on Dragon-Ba... Wait, whoops, wrong franchise.
Each time I transform Optimus he is guaranteed to have something pop off and I have to work out how it goes back together
