    Lego traditionally doesn't put knees into their mechs, it's a hige build integrity issue as the knees will buckle from the weight and break a lego piece which is a no-no.

    I can't imagine all the work the designers put in for it to not only transform but also be durable enough not to break apart in the process. It's by no means a complicated transformation but it still blows my mind. Lego has very strict standards for official sets yet they still took up the challenge.

    I feel that the lack of a knee joint was probably a decision made based upon LEGO's pretty strict guidelines on engineering. While neither of us know how strict they are, I think it's fair to say that it was most likely a result of it, similarly to the Voltron set where, just like the Optimus set, lacked knee joints as well

    From an avid Lego collector, I can say that normally Lego doesn’t give knee joints to retain stability, HOWEVER of all the mech/large robot sets they’ve released there’s only one that I can recall that had working knees so it is somewhat interesting that he doesn’t have knees. But considering I love Lego and am a huge Optimus fan I will definitely be adding this to my small prime army haha

    • @shadowclonier3062

      That being Zane's Titan Mech. Owning it myself, it's comprised of four different ball joints, two of which lead onto a general lever muscle, all so knees can bend. Undoubtedly impressive, but I doubt it could have been replicated here and still maintained the stability Lego would want.
      Also, it only manages a 45 degree bend.

    @kre8or465 2 года назад +11

    The problem is that, while Lego have made larger more ambitious sets, most mechs like that don't have knees either. It's because individual lego joints can only support so much weight without being very carefully balanced. Even the heaviest-duty hinge-movement joints (the ones used for knees on things like the AT-AT sets) still are at risk of stability issues, and require a large area dedicated to fitting them into the built due to having a long bar piece for connecting them.
    Now, it still would be possible, and I guarantee we will be seeing videos on how to rebuild the knees to have a joint, but with Lego's stability standards I can understand why they weren't designed. They don't want him suddenly doing a Michael Jackson back lean and falling over which would be an even bigger problem for this than a normal transformer since, you know , it's Lego. It would break and then you might lose pieces.

    I'll share you some Lego terms you must know: Regular pieces are called just bricks, those very thin pieces are plates, what you called "smooth panels", are called tiles.

    I love the fact Lego and Transformers have joined forces and i'm excited about this toy and the future collaborations. Maybe a playstation game and a lego Soundwave in the pipeline. I think it's overpriced though. £70 would have been what i expected but £160 is the RRP of a Transformers Titan. And there's no trailer included either for that price. It looks and transforms beautifully but i can't justify the price for the cab alone.

    I cant wait to get this sick set! this made me very exited for this and when I saw it I was impressed with how it looks and the weapons the jet pack the energon the matrix of leadership and that little thing that shows primes speed strength etc (idk what it is called ) they are all mindblowing but the axe could be better but not bad but the optimus figure is just insanely amazing! I love that it dosent need any partsforming (except for that one piece for accuracy) this is a figure I will get as soon as I can (but I might get legacy bulkhead first or ss jolt my parents might get the bulkhead I would have gotten it there if I could but I am broke as hell so that is a no lol I wasent expecting to see bulkhead tho in Canada yet until next year I thougth I hope I can find more legacy figures as those have been hard for me to find recently lol)

    I made a Chinese LEGO kit of Bumblebee (an actual licensed one) which had jointed knees. It made him hard to stand up, so if OP had knee joints, they would need to be ratcheted or very sturdy and tight.

    Like you said in the video, if there's anything we don't like about it, we can change it because it's Lego. I'd say that applies to the lack of knee joints as well. Give it like a day on the public market and I guarantee someone will have figured out a way to give it knees. Granted, maybe not very stable knees, but functional ones.

    Man alive this looks amazing! fantastic review too! really enjoyed it. I actually owned the original G1 Optimus Prime Hasbro toy when I was a wee lad in the 80's( yes still got it trailer & all) & it is amazing how accurate to the original toy figure this not only looks but also transforms. I know you really didnt like the fact it had no knees, but neither did the original toy, so I think its not only a design choice, but again reinforcing the fact that Lego & Hasbro wanted to keep this as close to the original as possible.

    Lego has some really strict regulations were they said they won’t make any thing like a realistic gun or a vehicle used in war they even cancelled an off spray because the vehicle was only used by the military so if they did make a megatron it would have to be something that’s not a gun or tank
