- Sometimes you might need to disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module) within your BIOS - and 95% of the time this will work fine.
But what about the 5% of times when you get LOADS of issues? These problems can range from the PC (or Windows) no longer booting up, to receiving weird monitor errors about the resolution.
Thankfully there are a few simple fixes for CSM boot related problems (either within Windows, or at BIOS start-up time) - which I cover in this video.

Dude, you can't imagine how much you have helped me! I switched to HDMI, it popped up again. Then I configured everything and boom, my pc is now working fine! Cheers mate.
Woohoo, that's great to hear - glad it helped ☺️ This problem can be sooo annoying, but it's great that the HDMI cable helped.
This video is incredibly helpful. It didn't solve my particular problem, but the way the information was presented it pointed me in all the right directions. Thank you so much for this!
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate that - glad you got the problem sorted in the end 🙂
Thank you so much! Clearing the cmos helped me!
Phew, glad clearing the CMOS worked well 🙂
Bless your channel man!)
Only u have explained all info in such a good explanation structure.Sry about mine “bad english”. But i hope u catch what i m trying to say.
Thx for really useful info.
Thank you, I appreciate that and I fully understand what you are saying. I am glad that you found the video useful 😊
Thanks a lot ! I'm really rellieved, i thought i would have to change the motherboard
Glad I could help, definitely good to avoid a mobo change where possible 💪
Solid guide thanks
Thanks, glad it helped 🙂
Hello I have a b365 ds3h motherboard I have enabled secure boot but my pc won’t boot it’ll keep sending me back to bios
Hello, does it show the OS drive in the BIOS? It sounds like the settings you've changed mean that the drive isn't being detected (which is why the motherboard keeps sending you back into the BIOS). To start, I would check whether it's being detected, and naturally the file system type too. Good luck 🤞
Hey bro, im using a Gigabyte x470 mobo, when i disable the CSM support the boot options disappear , NO DEVICE to boot windows from....can you help?
Hey, hmm so do you have secure boot as an option under the Boot menu? That'll probably need enabling. Also were you able to verify what partition type your Windows install was (GPT or MBR)? You may need to convert it if it's MBR and CSM is disabled. There's a few guides out there on updating your disk type.
@@TechOverwrite I have to disable CSM so that Secure Boot can appear, i will check my partition
Okay makes sense, good luck and fingers crossed you get this issue sorted 🙂
Hey man!
I have the opposite problem. I enabled CSM. And turned launch video oprom policy from uefi only to do not launch.
After that my bootup is longer. It’s only a black screen and before i could hold onto f2 to access bios (asrock) now it doesnt.
I will try to use hdmi cable only. Do you have any other tips?
When I am in windows I cant also get the advanced restart option(blue screen) to change uefi settings.
Hey man, sorry to hear it 😕 Unfortunately beyond trying a HDMI cable and eventually resetting the BIOS (via the CMOS battery), I can't think of anything else obvious to try. Maybe Asrock support could be an option in this case though - it's sounds like a slightly more specific problem so maybe they can advise 🤞
hey bro
after I turned off CSM support, then went to secure boot, I turned it off, then I turned it back on, then I got a notification to restart, so I clicked restart and finally my computer wouldn't boot/no display anymore,
Can you help me?
What step for fix that or enabled csm when no display?
Hey bro, ugh that sucks. Uhm, I would probably try removing the CMOS battery - it sounds like something is out of whack with your motherboard settings. If that doesn't work either, try removing your drive (hard drive or SSD) too and see if the BIOS then loads. Good luck and reply back as needed 🙂
hello, did you find a solution?
All my drives are GPT including the C boot driver. C drive is a Samsung 970 NVME, the rest are 860 EVO. I have Windows UEFI mode set in Secure Boot but when I disable CSM boot gets stuck at the Windows logo and does not progress on to showing the usual circular progress bar as it loads Windows. I've only encountered this problem recently when I noticed Nvidia control panel shows Resizeable Bar is disabled and clicking on enable Resize bar in BIOS also disables CSM.
Hmm, that's really frustrating sorry - nothing obvious springs to mind for a fix (beyond clearing the CMOS) but I'll have a dig around incase anything pops up. This sort of issue is why this CSM problem is so annoying - it's so frustrating to debug 😔
Someone suggested disabling secure boot for a specific steam on linux fix I needed. But then i had a blackscreen. Removing all monitor cables except the dvi plugged directly into the motherboard helped. Thanks a lot. God bless
Thanks for the comment, glad that helped then - it's weird how the display cables can cause grief here, so it's good you got it sorted 🙂
In my bios both of my ssd’s are showing up but i cant boot into windows even with the correct boot priority do you know why?
Ugh that sucks. Are they both the right boot/drive type (e.g. GPT)? If they're definitely the right type for your BIOS config then try clearing the CMOS via the battery, and maybe look at updating your BIOS.
i will look into it thanks!
can you make a vid with the AMI bios??
I'll do some digging, although I usually like to own a product before doing a video on it (so I can do hands on testing etc). If the opportunity is there, though, I'll consider an AMI video - thanks for the suggestion 🙂
Sir I disable CSM and now I have black screen how to fix please
Sorry to hear it. That's what I discuss in this video, but for an entirely black screen, I would try moving to a motherboard HDMI cable (if your CPU has integrated graphics) and failing that, remove the CMOS battery. I hope you can get this fixed quickly 😞
I want to disable CSM is thats safe ? And how can disable without problems, thank you ❤
If you installed your OS in them last few years then you should be fine 🙂 If it's an old OS, you might have issues but that's where a few of the other settings I mention in this video can help 🤞
Its crazy ive literally tried everything i can find on the internet and nothing is fixing this problem. I straight up just cant get into bios after disabling csm. I have to enable secure boot to play valorant but i guess thats not happening. Everything from unplugging monitors removing the cmos battery etc.. welp I guess im stuck like this
Ugh that sucks, sorry to hear it. Maybe try contacting the motherboard support? Sometimes it won't help much tbh, but there's always a chance that they're actually helpful 🤞 I don't know what else could be causing your mobo issues sorry, but I hope you get it sorted soon.
@@TechOverwrite appreciate the help, but to be honest im just not gonna play valorant lol
@AsterLight Lol 😂
Imagine willfully sacrificing your soul and enabling Secure Boot just to play a chinese psyop toy
any fix yet? just bought a val account off of someone who used windows 11
and now when i try playing on the acc as a win 10 user, i got the tpm2 + secure boot error. was able to fix the tpm2
but now that i have secure boot enabled and csm off, i can’t boot past the bios
however if secure boot is enabled and csm is on i’m able to get through to windows but valorant wont load
ridiculous errors honestly and im fuming right now trying to fix it
i cant disable csm even though i have all of my disks gpt 😩 i only want to enable my secure boot
Sorry to hear it - what motherboard do you have? Maybe resetting the CMOS or upgrading the BIOS might help?
None of these worked I need help my pc will not boot everything is on but won’t start
Hmm sorry to hear it, that almost sounds like a PSU issue to me to be honest. Maybe remove the relevant PSU cables and then reinsert them, to check everything is seated properly? I'd also do the same with the RAM while I was there. I hope you can get this sorted anywhoo 😞
@@TechOverwrite everything is working properly it was running fine for a whole year and I tried upgrading to win 11 and now it won’t boot
Ugh that's a concern, maybe try putting a fresh drive in there (or even, removing that drive and inserting a USB). It does sound like something is corrupted at the boot loader level. 😞
How Can I Install Windows While My Secure Boot And CSM Disabled ??
Wait, are both disabled? You would need one option enabled such that you're able to boot up into the install media and then the OS. Maybe I'm misunderstanding though?
@@TechOverwrite no you got it right i need them both to be disabled
@@TechOverwrite so i must have 1 enabled they cant be both disabled ?
@@AShabsogh I might be wrong (and hopefully someone can mention if so), but on most motherboards you need at least 1 to be enabled yes. On my Asus board, I couldn't find a way of disabling both.
@@TechOverwrite u can disable the secure boot from the key management option u just delete (unload) the keys there and the secure boot is disabled btw what Partition scheme type should i use when i burn the windows on my usb GPT Or MBR if the csm disabled
