- If you want a grom but don’t wanna pay a lot check this thing out on amazon. Perfect for engine swaps or just to save money and still have a “grom.” My friend got this and it shipped to his door in 2 days! It’s not perfect and has some problems but it’s a blast for 1200 bucks. Let’s just say this is the type of thing you want if your gonna heavily modify/engine swap it because it’s such a cheap bike.

Take as many of the bolts out that you can get to and put them back in with lock tight on them. Many will be lose. Put on a 17 tooth front sprocket. Check tire pressure and set at 20 in rear and 15-18 up front.Change oil! Pull off carb and add shims under throttle valve needle to lift it 1 mm . These changes will make a BIG difference.

Also, it would be worth it to clean the carb before running it.
You shouldnt have to shim the throttle valve it should have an adjustment screw. Just turn the idle up some. As for the rest yes good idea on any new China bike.
The adjustment screw is an "idle fuel/air adjustment"....it does nothing beyond about 1/8th throttle. Shimming the needle adds more fuel in the 1/8th to about 3/4 throttle opening....and then the main jet begins to have complete control over the fuel/air mix. Shimming the needle is a common fix for the bikes that run very lean at light throttle settings.
@@davidwhitacre534 there are 2 screws on these one for idle adjustment and 1 for fuel/air mix. All he needs to do is turn the idle a tad and his problem is solved. Unless they have it super lean from the factory. In that case i would be calling the company.

You made my day.... that wasn't the idle screw thats a petcock, and it needs a choke to start. This bike could be a great bike in the right hands. But these guys are just learning still, can't blame them. Only time could tell, keep riding boys.
Well basic knowledge on how a small engine operates should be necessary to riding it. He's pretending like he knows what he is doing.
You may have the answer now, but because it does have a carb, there's a choke lever on the left handle which you pull all the way in, start the bike, and let it chill for a few minutes. It needs to warm up before it can run smoothly. The idle adjustment I'd like to guess is on the left side of the engine. What you were playing with was the fuel petcock...
I'd like to believe that it could be a good enough bike for just getting around if you don't care about longevity, but you should probably learn how to start it before you ride it...

For a first bike just to learn things Chinese bikes will be good...they usually have the same problems no matter what model you get so finding the problem is easy and you can get experience changing things out on it ...you may not save much in the end but what you learn is priceless
Dude that's a nice-looking bike no matter what price it is! As long as it's reliable and you're able to get wearable parts for it easily then I can't wait to get one and I'm sure many others can't wait either!

Got a tao hellcat 125cc shipped to my door in 2018 and still ride faithfully, Minor issues like clutch and lose bolts. Other than that it's been a dream.✨🙏

I have a 2019 , same color. 5700 plus miles on it. Changed pipe, sprockets, chain, carb.. gets up to 70 consistently. It’s a toy and full of surprises, but if you have a cheap good mechanic .. you can make it work . Wheelies only got better after the mods. But the transmission box kinda sucks, I know what it is but I think I broke the pieces off mine cuz I haven’t had trouble shifting in a while; it doesn’t shift on a wheelie like a Honda or real bike. That’s what keeps me from good wheelies ... other than that, it’s good after you fix everything that’s gonna break

I had a chinese 107cc pit bike when I was a kid, it did really well considering, I dogged the hell out of it, no motor issues, they are bad but not as bad as you think, good kids bike in my opinion, teaches you how to maintain your bike, a chinese bike relies on it

I bought mine last week ..It’s fun to ride he probably put cheap gas in it.Put 91 🤔 2 to 3$ will fill it up and u get over a hundred miles.And just like a bike from Walmart I have to tighten everything .i put over a 100miles the first day and guess what I’ve never ridden a motorcycle in my life.Self taught.I never had my Grom next to a real Grom to compare the looks.

You need to go back and make sure all the nuts and bolts are tightened.
From what I learned as I’m about to buy a motorcycle grom and it’s clones are good you can learn to ride and take care of a bike without spending 3k

You can go to almost any sport bike dealership and get a demo 250 with like 30 miles on it for $1300 before fees.

swap all the fluids, put in real oil, brake fluid etc and you should run for a good while before you need that engine swap. Also do a carb swap. These lifan engines are pretty good.

Some people can't afford the best. The bike is just fine as a budget bike if you check everything and break it in right and not try riding wheelies or hard racing with it. Russ, no! Get her a well made SAFE bike, or a scooter. Kymco, SYM, or the Japanese four. The Chinese clones can be fun, but mechanically, there are so many things that can and do go wrong with them. Just trying to help. If you go Chinese inexpensive, check out Lifan. They are a Chinese brand that actually makes halfway decent bikes. They have a small 150cc mini moto bike for only a few hundred more than the one shown in this video. Lifan makes decent products.

@@russmode You're very welcome. I have a teen daughter as well, who has shown an interest. Lifan makes good, affordable bikes, but most other Chinese 'no name' products are iffy. Of course, now, brand names like Kawasaki and others make some bikes in China, but they are OK, and subject to strict quality control from the parent company. Benelli makes a great small bike as well, called the TNT135. Good luck, and take care!

Good starter ike for new guys but not the same quality as a honda which is why it was only $1200....but that's okay...not spending a shit load of money on a learner bike is a good idea....learn 1st spend money on a quality bike that will last after you have some seat time !

Lock-tite everything, shit falls off. Re torque your head bolts immediately, vacuum the tank and change out that fish oil in the crank case then change your break in oil at 300 miles there’s gonna be a lot of debris no worries

I was thinking about getting one but I just kept saving up.. and kept my eye on craigslist 3-4 times a week and then when I was getting close to around 2k I started looking daily.. saved up to around 2500 then found one for 2k.. I shoulda started lower dude said ok right when I offer 2k he had it listed for 2500. I also found someone who had 2 so I prob coulda got it for 1700... but ya even if do a swap.. get a used grom.. you know all the parts are gonna be better then a Chinese one. the trick for the swap though.. you can get a salvage grom for even cheaper.. most the ones I saw only had the starter switchs missing for around 1500 or less. then save on the swap by going to junk yards finding a harness and engine on the super cheap.. or even ask around for people if they know anyone wrecked a bike with a good engine and harness still.. the labor is the one that adds up. so if you do it yourself its cheap but might take long.. if you pay for it that's where most the money comes from swap.. and don't buy a bike just to take its engine because you will get ripped. though if you got the cash do what you want. still cool and better then nothing. have fun.

The new grom comes with a 38 tooth rear sprocket, achieving 70+ mph, can the clone be equipped the same way to achieve 70+ mph?
I just want one to run to the store on and get to work if my other bike is down. I cannot see spending $3000 on a Grom. They don't go that fast and I will probably beat the crap out of it anyway. I can blow up a 125cc without even trying. They need to drop the price on those things.

Honda dealership by my house has a 2015 grom with 600 miles and some knobby dirt tires for $2200. This is a hard choice, but i think they will take payments so honda it is.

Honda way better choice. Fuel injection starts right up. Better motor and parts. And will still be worth some money. That clone is worth 200 dollars in less then a year.
