For those wondering... if your powerboost starts acting up its normally that system. Multiple people have found their Aux battery isolator bad and replacing it fixed everything... I think there was a learning curve with these trucks and the techs are finally learning all the little things to fix them quickly.
Excellent video; please do more of these videos with battery & pro power details. It's hard to find good videos like this out there with accurate data.
After replacing the main cranking battery due to a saving accessory power message on the screen, I still get the message. I'll do the Ford battery test on the small battery and see what it shows. PB is 40 months old with 28,000 miles.
My 2023 Lariat (option group 502a) actually has two (2) of these small batteries (BHAGM-AUX1-B), linked in series, under the rear seat. They completely fill the battery box. So, in total, that's three (3) batteries.
I’ve fought electrical draws on several 21’ F150’s. One ended up being an issue with the BCM, one ended up being corroded wiring in the harness to the alternator.
Great video. Quick question: if a trickle charger is used on the main battery (due to infrequent driving), will this in turn keep the 12v battery charged, or does the 12v need to be disconnected and charged independently? Thank you.
I came across this video. I opened the box under rear seat and have noticed that the positive side was loose, the bolt would not tight down all the way, so I added a washer and that fixed the problem. We'll see how it goes after I drive it for some time and see if I get another notice from ford pass that truck is going into sleep mode. I no longer work so the truck sits for a over week sometimes.
OMG!! I'm trying to trouble shoot my 2021 F-150 BW that's going into power save mode! I'll check for these batteries and connections! Thank you for sharing your finds.
My 2021 Lariat Powerboost gave me a "12V Battery State of Charge Low" warning today on my instrument cluster, and the radio and main screen would not function properly. I haven't taken it to Ford yet, but do you think this warning is related to this secondary battery or the main one under the hood?
What if the 2021 F150 has an inverter where you show the auxiliary battery? Anyone know if that model F150 has an auxiliary battery at all or in another location?
Helpful video! Anyone have any idea what would cause a fan-like sound to come from the area of the rear seat AMG battery? Sound only happens when I am over 100km/h (~60mph). 107,000km on the truck.
My PowerBoost had been sitting for a long time and it doesn’t start, I changed both batteries and still nothing :/. I was wondering if there was a way to get the hybrid battery out of deep sleep? A way to bypass it to start it with the engine so it could charge the hybrid? I’ve got no luck!
Any idea where the hidden battery might be on a 2023? I have the xlt 302a and it seems like there is still a second battery based on my battery tester but I can’t find it. My inverter is under the back seat but no batteries.
A lot of them are in parallel with the main 12 volt battery, so yes they would contribute some to start and stop although the cranking amp available would be fairly low. They’re more of a deep cycle battery, 2 amps for 25 hours where conventional car batteries are the opposite.
Great video! I have a brand new 24 BP with the "charging system failure, service now" message and battery light on. It comes and goes while driver or parked. I have checked voltage at the primary battery with only 12.8 volts and AC on high with ign on and or engine running. With key off, 12.4 volts. I know the hybrid system charges the 12 volt battery, but shouldn't it be close to14 volts like a regular vehicle? Or with new AGM batteries, do they want the voltage low as to not over charge the battery being it's sealed. I'm dreading taking it back to the dealer and would rather fix it myself.
When you’re getting that message it’s probably not charging, or probably not charging at normal levels, depending on what the problem is. There should be codes in the PCM that should help point to the problem. That’s pretty new for a failed alternator or a corroded wire, but it’s probably one of those two.
@@CarShopTalk The dealership checked it out and didn't get any codes, I do notice that when the engine revs up to charge the system it only goes up to 1k rpm, it use to go to 1500rpm. I'll check the charging with my MULTIMETER.
@@CarShopTalk ok I checked the battery with a DMM and it's reading 12.9v it should be reading atleast 14.4v I wonder why my dealership didn't see this??
Me too. On my brand new 2021 Ford F150 only 300 miles. I was just told by the dealership that it is the two batteries located under the back seat. They are dead the dealership sold the truck without doing a good job of figuring it out before selling it.
So if you wanted to ad an in cab 12volt accessory would it be safe to wire directly to this under seat battery? If so I would assume an in line fuse would be needed.
Would it be to ford's advantage to just have a larger hybride battery and ditch any hidden 12 v ones? Less wires running all over the place. Great narrative in your video.
I hadn’t thought about it, but you probably could power things off of it. It is tied in with the main power to the engine compartment fuse box. And I would be surprised if that battery charged or discharged at anything more than 30 amps. I think the 125 amp fuses are in case of a short.
Depends on how the truck is equipped. On this one it’s mainly for addition amp hours to help with the draws from all the electronics when the trucks not running.
this is great info ford really needs to make a youtube video w animations explaining all this so no one inadvertently electrocutes them selves mine has the low voltage warning. so my truck is the powerboost 7.2kw (at least i didnt get the lightning) and i doubt it makes to 100k miles i really like it and it gets 20 mpg when my old 5.0 got 14 so i think its good tech maybe w time ford will iron the bugs out but i doubt it if the tundra had the generator i would have gotten it but thr ford is soo much nicer plus ford dealers are easier to deal with and i would have had to order the tundra and pay too much for it i basically got the f150 for 6k off sticker and the tundra was going to be over sticker so we will see if it was wise to go w ford. still hard to find tundra hybrids but they will be more reliable i bet mine only has 13k miles lol so the powerboost has 3 starters and 3 batteries ? what could go wrong
great video and good narrative. ford should contract you to run the ",you know how", or "do you know what is this for" . which would be great for ford tech, , since they are the last to know, sad but true and for DYS like me.😂😂😂😂
I knew about the two batteries but did not know they were tied together, so thank you for making this video. Great info to know. Great Video!
Thanks!

Does that fix rpm’s fluctuating

I’ll see what I can do.
Great video! Glad I found it. Currently having an issue with my 21 F150 PowerBoost and wouldn’t have thought to check the 12v battery as well!

GREAT info, thank you, lots of confusion about this on the forums, especially since the Powerboost and non-Powerboost models are different.
Thanks!
Thanks for this information. I own a 21 F-150 King Ranch. I can't get sync updates because this battery is not holding a charge.
I’ve fought electrical draws on several 21’ F150’s. One ended up being an issue with the BCM, one ended up being corroded wiring in the harness to the alternator.
Same issue
Fantastic video and great info for the Powerboost owners. Thanks !!
Had no idea what the compartment under the rear seat was for. Thanks.

Great video. Quick question: if a trickle charger is used on the main battery (due to infrequent driving), will this in turn keep the 12v battery charged, or does the 12v need to be disconnected and charged independently? Thank you.
That would charge both since they’re tied in parallel.
thank you first time seeing this information anywhere

Could you wire an aftermarket amplifier to that battery instead of the one under the hood?
Would this make it so your settings stay while you're changing the main battery?
Yes, it did for me.

The main one under the hood. I can’t say I’ve seen the secondary batteries cause any issues yet.

Under the rear seat is the only location I’ve auxiliary batteries on the new F-150.
Thank you. Maybe they eliminated it or something. I sure can’t find one.
Did you find the location of the second battery ? I have the same xlt with the 302a option , can't seem to find it either.
@@charlieparkhurst4694everyone I’ve talked to said the 302 does not have it. I’ve checked everywhere so I believe it now.

My all 3 MB cars had a 2nd battery and they were mainly for internal computer n memory backup.
It’s definitely not unique to Ford. A lot of manufacturers are starting to do this.
