Thank you! Patience is a virtue. I tried a couple times with my 2021 F150 XLT but rushed it. Tried again. Nothing. Then I read this, went back and this time, I WAITED. Not long, really, but after a few seconds my red battery symbol started flashing then went solid. Fantastic! 😅

It worked on my 2018 F150 and saved me a ton of time and money! Noticed my original battery was giving out a couple of weeks ago and went to Oreily’s to get a new battery. Counter guy said my best bet was to get a battery from a local shop and have them reset the sensor. My local Kwik Kar was clueless so I called the dealer. Dealer was wanting to keep my truck 2 days to change a battery and reset the sensor! Found your video on RUclips, went back to O’reily and bought a battery. I swapped batteries and reset the sensor in about 10 minutes.

There is no reset button on most models ,only 3 buttons on the left side steering wheel. No amount of blink lights, push brake pedal ,fart and tap dance will reset BCM BSM Thanks

(Our experience) Replaced battery. Took your advice, left the car overnight for more than 8 hours (You are right, it's in the Owner's Manual!) Tested it (engine stop/start) next day. It didn't seem to work. On the same short trip, tried the 5 light flashes and 3 brakes. Saw no "battery light" blinking. But the stop/start worked! End result - no need to take it to the dealer (who said to take it in. It would take 1 to 1.5 hours to reset. No charge.) Thank you!🙂

Saved me a trip to the dealer! 2018 Escape SE had battery changed in Dec 2022, the dealer offsite service center who sold me the new battery seems to not know this BMS fix...or just didn't want to take the time to make it right. They also recently forgot to reset oil sensing system, and i got a light on my console a couple of weeks after them changing oil. Might have to revert to alternate service location. Thanks for spending your time to give us self-help solutions! :)

A rooster dipping snuff…..LOL….Your help is GREATLY APPRECIATED! I did the negative cable thing. My truck being the 4.2 V6 is set up differently than the 4.6. My alternator is on the passenger side near the battery. I found some short black cable with connectors lying around at one of my customer’s store. I asked how much they told me to just take it. The cable fit my small battery terminal nut but it was a little to short to reach the alternator bracket. So I attached it to a bracket that has bunch of wires attached underneath. Those may be for my ECU. I think this setup is good. I may need to polish the hole on the bracket because I’m not really sure if it’s painted or not. But the truck is running great.

2020 Ford Edge owner here. I replaced the battery yesterday and let it sit undisturbed overnight with the doors locked. This morning I did this BMS reset procedure to ensure the BMS was reset. I believe it worked as I saw the lights flash like the video and then turn back on solid when in the on mode with the engine off. Without turning the vehicle off, I then turned the vehicle on and drove it about 15 miles. My auto start/stop still wasn’t working as it said the vehicle was in charging mode. I don’t care about the function but want to ensure I don’t have any problems. How long do you think it will take before the vehicle is charged enough to let that system function? First Ford vehicle we have owned.
Edit: after doing the BMS procedure I drove it and left it sit overnight for 8+ hours. Today I started it up and the auto start/stop kicked on at the first stop light. Just wanted to update this for anyone with a newer Edge.
    Great video & thanks again

Now on my F-150 2022, I charged the battery directly on the battery posts, and it was still going into protection mode, so I charged it on the sensor lead instead of the negative post, and the system is all working correctly now with no auto sleep. That, and like I said in a earlier post, I dont care if the engine has robust parts made for auto stop/start, nothing is wear proof. Besides, with robust engine parts designed for it, turning auto stop/start off will make those robust parts last even longer.

My ford fusion nav screen was showing that familiar message “system off to save battery”. The car worked and started fine. So I used the reset BMS procedure as you show. But right after that a yellow wrench icon appeared and my Fordpass alerted to a Powertrain fault detected reduced power. Once I started the car the yellow wrench icon went away. But it did scare me. I will take my car to get battery replaced since it is over five years old now.

Hi, not quite sure if you can get your head around this one! Ford galaxy 2013 TDCi 20l. Went out to the car the other day and the tailgate released. Shut the tailgate and you can drive away. A couple of days ago same thing but the hazard switch flashed. Yesterday same thing flat battery. Replace battery same thing again.

Not quite sure if it's the actual key fob. Because the main car battery is going flat. But what you have indicated with the BMS it actually worked on this vehicle. So let's hope it starts tomorrow.

I am going to see if the BMS reset helps with some electrical issues I am having with my wife's 2013 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid- Weird stuff like door handle sensors on one side not working, NAV Sync randomly resetting.. Sudden jerking when slowing down. (Might be Mass Airflow Sensor)-- Anyway- I always appreciate good diagnostic skills and especially if you share them! Update, BMS reset must be different on a Hybrid.. no flashing battery icon.

Tried the steps in video. No flashing battery indicator. What position is key supposed to be in for these steps? First click (accessories on). Second click (run but not started). Or third click (engine starts). Did only some have BMS in 2017? Thanks!

Thanks, This worked perfectly on my 2023 F150 PowerBoost. Less than one month my brand new vehicle with less than 2K miles was shutting off accessories when I shut the vehicle off along with a warning message on SYNC4 system that said that accessories were shut off to save battery. I'm not sure why. Perhaps since the PowerBoost is a hybrid and as such with a lot of local driving, the ICE is not always running to charge the 12V battery. I measured the voltage on the AGM battery and it measured 12.9 volts with no load and that should mean the battery was at or near 100% charge. Hunting around for possible solutions before scheduling a service call with the dealer (uhggg 😡) I tried your simple procedure to reset the BMS and it fixed the problem and it now works properly again... accessories stay on. I will note however that I did not see the blinking indicator as shown in your video but I'm happy now. Thanks again.

I thought the BMS sensor was on both wires? Hall-effect sensors I believe? I could swear I had one on positive and negative, but I may be wrong. They were on the cable, not the terminal for mine. You mentioned that you sometimes had to do the sequence by turning the ignition on and off. I do not believe I did it, and maybe I wasn't patient enough. I do believe you though. No reason not to. Got that "don't start a regen 5min from home" button for me yet? :p
Oh, and you said the passenger door not working first being a hint. I just replaced both in the 250. One developed a shorted cell. Battery bloated and started smoking. Passenger door stopped working a day or two before the smell entered the cabin and I figured it out. Now I know.

Another trick I learned is if you disconnect your battery for approximately 30-40 mins then reconnect your battery and DO NOT touch nor start your vehicle and let it sit at a minimum of 8 hrs and the BMS will also reset. Atm I'm waiting for my switch to arrive to utilize high beams

Thank you for this video, I was getting ready to buy a new battery for my very low mileage 2019 XLT Ranger. ASS only worked for a few days after I recharged the battery, I kept getting system shutdown to conserve battery messages along with the startup and proximity sensors sounding squeaky odd. The radio would only run for a few minutes before shutting off when I was parked.
I checked the battery voltage before recharging and it was generally about 12.65 volts and it never once cranked the engine slow so I’m thinking it’s not the battery. I stumbled across this video by chance and ran the procedure and suddenly ASS was working and no more power messages. It clearly works, question is how often does one need to rerun this procedure?
