Thanks for the video. We bought one in 2019 and the Ford dealer ominously said they make all their money on maintenance, so I immediately knew I'd never go back there. (120$/hour for pressing light switch and brake pedal etc is nonsense money making design scumbaggery).There is nothing in the manual about this reset deal, and the Battery Monitoring System does not warn you the battery is dying or not charging, god bless the designers who got fired for making older cars too good.
Just had a new battery put in, then noticed that some of my aftermarket accessories kept giving low voltage warnings. Got out my multimeter and could only get 12.6v max when charging. By chance happened to find this video, tried it on my 2015 escape and voila... 14.4v charging again. Thanks!
For those people that this method does not seem to work, make sure the hood, all doors, and rear hatch are all closed. I was pulling my hair out when I could not get this method to work after changing the battery on a 2016 Ford Edge, but the method worked when I closed the hood.

Just when I thought RUclips was full of hokey stuff, this video actually proved useful and helped me out. Got my battery changed amd the windows would not roll up or down with a single press of the button. This method got it to work. Greag video. Short and to the point.
This works for a 2017 Ford Focus as well. My transmission interlock wasn’t working until I did this. If you can pull it out of pro without pressing the brake you need to do this

This worked in a North American Ford FIesta ST (2014, but I assume non ST and other similar models it is the same procedure) however I should note, on my car, the high beams switch has a half-way point where it will toggle on temporarily and then off when you release it, and if you do it that way it doesn't work, you need to a FULL pull of the lever so it toggles and stays on, then toggles and stays off (5x, then brakes 3x).
Thanks for the tip. Forscan doesn't work, I have tried it to reset the BMS on my new battery, and it simply doesn't work. Could be my adapter. This is nuts, but I believe it is correct. And if you don't do this, your vehicle will just start acting weird; such as Intelligent Access not working, doors not locking after 5MPH, weird flashing issue with some interior lights. It will literally take power away from accessories, such as your power windows. Stupid system.......Gotta do it apparently. Otherwise it keeps the old battery profile. Are cars this stupid? My god, plug and play has been a thing on computers since Windows 95 launched all those decades ago. Whatever computer controls the system should know if a new battery is in, or Ford is just monkeying around here.

Mine died today. Luckily in town on a sunny day and not in the winter on a isolated road. Console was lit up and wouldn’t turn off. Key not found message was displayed. Car wouldn’t start. We walked to a store to change key fob batteries just in case that was it…we could take the car out of park. The brake wouldn’t depress. Something is def wrong. It’s been towed to Ford.
Hello Susie. Have you remedied your lit console. OUr 2014 Escape drains the battery because the instrument panel cluster/LCD screen does not power down.

Been a year since I put a new battery in on 2019 Ford Fiesta SE and have been having a problem with master window switch not opening the rear windows. And the switch doesn't illuminate. I've tried new fuses and still the rear windows won't open from the master switch. Could this help?
I did these exact steps and then after I take the key out of the ignition and try to start it, nothing. The battery goes dead and no lights or anything. Then I unhook the battery and repeat previous steps and same result. Thoughts?
I tried this on a 2019 Escape SE fwd. All doors, hood, and hatch closed. All accessories off. 5x flashes, 3x brake, no luck to get the brake light to flash/confirm.
2017 Escape...tried it every which way, door open, door closed, waited for the dinging to stop before doing, did it immediately upon turning the key on, etc. (5 times) and could not get the battery light to flash...Canadian car, not sure if that matters
@@fupabox yup strange!...I ended up giving it back to my mother as is. She hasn't reported any issues so far....also I read somewhere from some youtuber who copied a page out of a Ford service manual that said the BMS needs 8 hours of "sleep time" after you change batteries to reset itself. So maybe that's what mine needed?? who knows! so far so good..

I was wondering if I’d be able to do this wit a booster pack hooked up to the battery because i can’t start my ford without and jumpstart and right when i shut the car off the battery dies instantly i don’t have any power in the car until i hook the booster up
Same method . Just don’t have your foot on the brake when you hit the start button and the car will turn everything on , but not start . Then you do the 5 high beam flashes , brake pedal press etc . Any time you need the ignition on but not have the car started , just push the button without your foot on the brake pedal .
And what if you do this but the battery light doesn't ever blink? My 2017 Ford Escape will crank up but it keeps dropping below a 1000 rpms and then dies. Any clue as to what might be wrong?
I really wish I knew . A small % have no luck with the reset . Ford should be ashamed for over complicating a battery swap . I am currently researching an answer as another neighbour has the same issue as you do . Fingers crossed 🤞

Confirmed working on a 16 Fusion with old BMS monitor on the cable and MyFordTouch. Light will blink for about 5 seconds before disappearing like shown.
Pretty sure Ford put this feature in so you have to go visit and pay the dealership to swap batteries or trouble shoot electrical problems with their cars rather than doing an easy swap yourself (or through a cheap mechanic / handy buddy etc).
Actually the opposite. They could have made this so only the dealer could do it with their own special tool. This is clearly an "anybody can do it" procedure. The only thing that would be better is if it was documented in the owner's manual.

I found this post while trying to figure why my 2013 Titanium Escape was going into battery save mode while in accessory. I replaced the battery back in 2018 (35k miles ago) after the dealer let it die while taking two months to repair other issues. I didn’t know I had to reset the BMS so didn’t. Question is, would it hurt/help to reset it now, or should I just replace it again and do it correctly this time?

Interesting that they have these alternate methods available that don't require the factory scan tool, im guessing probably a legal requirement. The first time i heard about this telling the car the battery was new was when the dealership installed a new AGM battery in my ford. It's an employer issued car so i never have to do anything with it other that drive it.
It seems like a pointless system to me . Neighbors car had a constant dead battery every morning after a new one was installed, no dead battery any more . The BMS seems to want to know if it’s a new or old battery in order to charge properly . Voltage regulators have always done that without the need for this silliness . Sometimes newer isn’t always better .
@@fupabox mine also has the stop start, i just assumed it was to do with that to ensure the constant stopping and starting wouldn’t leave you stranded in traffic. quite a ridiculous feature, in stop start traffic you pretty much have no choice but to disable it.
I am hoping someone is still monitoring this video and the comments. I have a 2014 Ford Escape that required a jumpstart this weekend. Come to find out, my trunk did not latch all the way after loading some stuff up to move, and it drained the battery. Have had no issues prior to this with the battery to indicate that the battery is shot or needs to be replaced. HOWEVER, ever since the jumpstart, my clock is frozen and will not allow me to change it. My question is, will this work (or possibly work) even if I have not had a new battery put in but have just had a jumpstart?
I don't think it would harm anything to try resetting the BMS. One thing you could try if it continues being a problem is disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes, then reconnect and perform the BMS reset procedure in the video.

Same here! 2017 Escape Titanium 1.5 Eco Boost. Did not work. Tried several times. Tried ForScan but would not find car. Like other post says maybe the adapter. Ordered an OBD2 scanner with BMS reset. Try that when it is delivered.

I own a 2017 Escape SE and had this issue recently, but it has been resolved by charging the battery with a high-quality automatic charger. Try charging your battery with an automatic/smart battery charger. The NOCO Genius1 is $30 and is excellent, for a few more dollars the Genius2 is twice as powerful. Let it sit charging overnight or as long as it takes for the battery to be fully charged. Usually the hill assist/traction control malfunctions are linked to low battery voltage. If that doesn't work, you might need to buy a new battery.
2017 Ford Escape SE. Procedure did not work. I have have intermittent complete battery drain requiring a jump start after installing a new battery. I am hoping a bms restart would fix this issue so I am hoping someone can help with why this videos procedure is not working.

I thought this was something only the dealer could do. So glad I saw this. No need to pay a dealer $75 to replace a battery!
No but to replace it you have to do a bunch of other crap to get to it. Step 1 is take the windshield wipers off, seriously i did it yesterday.

Sometimes it doesn’t work right away, drive it for a day and then try the next day. This has worked for me .

This in no way works on a 2018 Ford Escape Titanium. I just installed a new AGM battery and it still indicates to install a new battery.

I found this post while trying to figure why my 2013 Titanium Escape was going into battery save mode while in accessory. I replaced the battery back in 2018 (35k miles ago) after the dealer let it die while taking two months to repair other issues. I didn’t know I had to reset the BMS so didn’t. Question is, would it hurt/help to reset it now, or should I just replace it again and do it correctly this time?

Interesting that they have these alternate methods available that don't require the factory scan tool, im guessing probably a legal requirement. The first time i heard about this telling the car the battery was new was when the dealership installed a new AGM battery in my ford. It's an employer issued car so i never have to do anything with it other that drive it.
It seems like a pointless system to me . Neighbors car had a constant dead battery every morning after a new one was installed, no dead battery any more . The BMS seems to want to know if it’s a new or old battery in order to charge properly . Voltage regulators have always done that without the need for this silliness . Sometimes newer isn’t always better .
@@fupabox mine also has the stop start, i just assumed it was to do with that to ensure the constant stopping and starting wouldn’t leave you stranded in traffic. quite a ridiculous feature, in stop start traffic you pretty much have no choice but to disable it.
I am hoping someone is still monitoring this video and the comments. I have a 2014 Ford Escape that required a jumpstart this weekend. Come to find out, my trunk did not latch all the way after loading some stuff up to move, and it drained the battery. Have had no issues prior to this with the battery to indicate that the battery is shot or needs to be replaced. HOWEVER, ever since the jumpstart, my clock is frozen and will not allow me to change it. My question is, will this work (or possibly work) even if I have not had a new battery put in but have just had a jumpstart?
I don't think it would harm anything to try resetting the BMS. One thing you could try if it continues being a problem is disconnect the negative battery terminal for a few minutes, then reconnect and perform the BMS reset procedure in the video.
Does this affect issues with wipers falling out of sync? I changed my battery a year ago and my wipers never worked right since then
Possibly yes . It can cause a lot of weird issues
@@fupabox I hope this fixes mt issue ive replaced both wiper motors on my 2016 escape now ive spent 300$ in the past year on wipers because they end up colliding when snow ways on them.

Same here! 2017 Escape Titanium 1.5 Eco Boost. Did not work. Tried several times. Tried ForScan but would not find car. Like other post says maybe the adapter. Ordered an OBD2 scanner with BMS reset. Try that when it is delivered.

I have a ford escape 2016 my brake lights work but my left brake light doesn't brake bright and the hill decent light turns on hard to steered the wheel and miles and speedometer doesn't work. But it pass inspection and no codes show up. Help me please I don't know what the problem is.
I own a 2017 Escape SE and had this issue recently, but it has been resolved by charging the battery with a high-quality automatic charger. Try charging your battery with an automatic/smart battery charger. The NOCO Genius1 is $30 and is excellent, for a few more dollars the Genius2 is twice as powerful. Let it sit charging overnight or as long as it takes for the battery to be fully charged. Usually the hill assist/traction control malfunctions are linked to low battery voltage. If that doesn't work, you might need to buy a new battery.
2017 Ford Escape SE. Procedure did not work. I have have intermittent complete battery drain requiring a jump start after installing a new battery. I am hoping a bms restart would fix this issue so I am hoping someone can help with why this videos procedure is not working.
